A surreal cavern city inhabited by Symenestra where stones glow and streets are reams of silk. Cocoon like structures hang between stalactites and cascade over limestone flows in organic and eerie arabesques. Without a Symenestra willing to escort you, entrance is impossible.

Formally known as the examination rooms, this is the site where Lab C and D of the Kalinor Research Facility are located. The two labs are technically part of the Facility, although they have their own stalactite. The second and considerably smaller building of the facility is connected to the main building by a deep violet hued chord of silk.

Despite the fact that violet or blue chords of silk are reserved for back roads or connecting two stalactites faster than a main roads, the few yards of silk that connects the Secondary Labs and the Place of Purging is the deep crimson of a main road. This is due to the fact that this silk has the sole purpose of transporting surrogates from the Place of Purging to the Secondary Labs, making it necessary for a basket to be able to glide along the silk transporting the precious surrogates. This red rope connects directly from Lab C to the back of the Place of purging, while the violet silk connects Lab D to the Facility's primary building.

Lab C is nothing more than a simple doctor's office. It is the top room of the building, with the ceiling being connected to the cave above it. This provides the room with a sharp draft that the scientists prefer when examining patients. Two cushioned chairs sit in the center of the room. Cranks are attached to the side so that the examining scientist may make the seating comfortable for the patients. Shelves have been carved into the light off-white stone that the walls are made of, holding various books, catalogs and jars of herbs. A single desk sits at the far wall, usually empty unless a scientist has brought their work into the examination room. Lab C is one of least used labs in the entire facility. Despite it's importance to the organization as a whole, bringing in live patients to test on is not as common as one might think.

Lab D, is not actually a lab at all, it is the offices for the scientists working at the facility. Resting in the circular room of the drop at the bottom of the stalactite, the office merely holds four desks and two large tables. Each desk belongs to one of the scientists, which is where they keep their personal notes and catalog their own work. Even though teamwork is encouraged in the facility, each scientist is allowed to pursue their own direction in search for an answer to either the ongoing problem or birth, or any of their more urgent projects. Similar to the examination room, shelves have been carved into the walls to allow for extra cataloging outside of the main-building. However the scientists have accumulated more research books and materials than Lab D was prepared for, and no one bothered to clean them out. Instead the scientist simply started bringing in separate bookshelves, creating a maze of sorts for any of those navigating through. The two large tables in the center of the room serve a different purpose. The one closest to the entrance, where the individual strand of violet silk from the road have been weaved into the floor, is the apprentice's table. This is where they are allowed to work. Given no formal way of storing their notes and observations, it is not uncommon to simply see multiple stacks of paper and scrolls lining the table. The assistants don't have nearly as much paperwork as the scientists do, so the stacks of paper rarely get too excessive.

ImageName: Daratur Balsam
Age: Summer of 481AV
Title: Scientist
Skills: Medicine (50), Herbalism (50), Poison (40), Philtering (30), Biology (20), Teaching (20), Botany (15)
Bio & History: Daratur is the one of the few Symenestra who doesn't feel she belongs in the caves. She is a quite woman with a fierce personality. Although she doesn't let this fiery drive rule her personality, after speaking with the kind Symenestra, it becomes apparent very quickly that she wishes she had been something more. And yet, she is the scientist most requested to work on the surrogates, because of her kind disposition and her ability to calm even the most hysteric of surrogate mothers. Ever since her first gleaning as a teen, Daratur held a passion for the plants that the Symenestra had once valued so much. Although her life in the caves hasn't given her a chance to develop her botanical skills and live her dream as the caretaker of plants, she uses her herbal knowledge in the most noble way, to help the Facility. She believes that if she is able to amplify the affects of known herbs, she could create an antidote for her race's curse.

ImageName: Valdyor Curare
Age: Winter of 429AV
Title: Scientist
Skills: Anatomy (65), Intelligence (60), Gadgeteering (55), Physics (45), Mathematics (40), Teaching (20)
Bio & History: Valdyor is the most peculiar of scientist. Not only is he the oldest scientist, and the only one who doesn't specialize in some sort of medicine or biology. Valdyor believes the great Symenestra problem can be solved with mechanics and actually possesses a vast amount of knowledge on not only Symenestra anatomy but Zith and most humanoids as well. He is a hard man to talk to, simply because he can never stay on one subject. Any person of his age and magnitude of genius won't ever be easily understood. He is a loud man and laughs at odd times, and more often than not you can barely tell if he is speaking Symenos or mumbling something odd in gibberish. Although many write him off as senile and excuse his crazy ideas to favor the more organic theories, he is a man to be respected. One of the only Symenestra in all of Kalinor to have any skill to speak of in gadgeteering, let alone be considered an expert in his field, he has solved quite a few problems for the Facility and Kalinor as a whole. He is the man that is often turned to when something goes awry, and he rarely fails to find a solution. Although Valdyor does not focus on the Facility's projects any more, he continues to work as a scientist. Valdyor has yet to retire and none of the Head Researchers have found the cooky man to lack enough worth to be fired, and so he continues to work in the facility.
