27, Fall, Sunberth 514
He counted five of them. Four surrounding, and one in arms reach. He dare not move leaving the child cowering behind him open for an attack from the thieves. Lakan up and at the ready, he stood with one hand behind him guarding the child. He couldn't think with the seemingly forever growing crowd of tenants, orphans, and bystanders whispering away at the scene."Bastards." He couldn't blame them though, it was his job to guard the Quarter, his responsibility, his problem. He shouldn't expect them to hold up a blade for their home when it was his job. Foot slowly sliding backward towards the door, gentle movement, no sound, stop. He wasn't getting anywhere at this rate. The few feet they were from the door felt like yards with the little one clenching to his leg as if he were a cowering animal. He should be the one standing with a weapon in hand with Lo'campo seeing that it was his mouth that got the Akalak into this situation, telling the bandits that the building was filled with rations not only when there was no food in the city, but no food in the Quarter as well. Taking another step back the bandits moved with the warrior. He would have to make a run for it, the close to impossible idea making him uneasy about it's results. On one hand the bandits didn't even look like the usual bandits that roamed Sunberth's streets, resembling more of the common folk that hoped to raid the building with pure imtimidation than by force. Unfortunately they didn't think that they would be going up against a 7'4 blue giant armed with a large dagger and the intent to kill, so Lo'campo didn't think that they were very skilled if any at all. On the other hand, there were five of them, which wouldn't be a problem if there wasn't a child and group of tenants watching the fight as if it were some sort of show.
Sliding the arm he used for guarding the boy, he felt the cold steel of one nakh greet his hand, locking in his fingers ready for use. He couldn't tell if the bandits were caught by surprise of the weapon or not. Gentle movement, the bandits moved as well, keeping their distance from the larger male. He knew he wouldn't make it if he ran. Even if he was more skilled than they, he still would gain some form of injury rendering him disabled. The chimes clicked in his ear. How much time did he have before they realized that he had been stalling this whole time in an attempt to form a plan? "Can't run in blind, but can't allow them inside." He needed a distraction, he needed to get this petching child off of his leg, he needed to lose the crowd of people. The six stood quietly Lo'campo and the bandits. A unified step foward from the bandits, a gasp from the crowd. They were getting fidgety, a bad sign for him right now. He glanced back down at the boy. He was young, skinny, light. Light enough? Bigger movement backward, yes he was. That solved his problem. "You all don't know what you got yourself into, this is our monster. He kills anyone that attacks us or the building, he has alot of miza from the attackers.".....Petch. Why would this child open his mouth. Lo'campo was glad that the boy gained courage, but now had less time to think if any.
A quick movement from the bandits was all that was needed for Lo'campo to react. Gripping the child's arm, Lo'campo brought his own muscular limb up and over tossing the child into the crowd of tenants that had enough common sense to catch the child. A roaring war cry, the movement of feet, a startled herd of cows running into the Quarter to watch the battle from inside. He pushed pass the people trying to prevent any bandits that may have tried to rush in with the masses. Back out into the open, he was relieved to see that none had moved. Now he could concentrate. The two bandits moved first from behind, their feet making them noticed, their swords raised showing their sloppy skill. Giving attention to the obvious first, his mind left the others to rush in bring the hilt of their weapons to his back leaving him unmoved. A big swing from Lo'campo slashing nothing but the air replacing the bandits head filling his nakh. A square this time enclosed the Akalak in such a way that made him seem like a wild animal. They pressed again, Lo'camp being ready this time. Not looking forward to falling for the same trick twice, he lashed out at the bandit in his front, watching as the female hit the ground evading his attack and sliding between his legs. "Behind you." Pivoting, he caught one of the slippery scum, tossing the man across the yard. They did not appear to be skilled in sword play, but they were fast and agile for the most part. Now serious, Lo'campo raised his lakan, prepared for the next strike. |
