Kamilla Circe Gordon

85th of Fall 514AV

Zeltiva, the city of scholars and sailors, a city where everything was neatly organised and order was maintained(for the most part), a city so different from the one where she'd grown up. Since she'd fled the city, Kamilla had hardly ever allowed herself to think about it, a task that wasn't too difficult considering that the lawless city had given her nothing but hardships, but try as she may, she still found herself missing her hometown from time to time.

Sunberth, that was what Yvette's Dresses For All Occasions reminded her of today, the store was the busiest she'd ever seen it in her season of working there, which wasn't saying much considering the store only catered to the wealthier citizens of Zeltiva, but it was still a big change from the usual handful of customers on other days. They had hardly had time to breathe since noon, customers entered the store in 'desperate' need of the newest trends for the winter season(which could apparently only be found at Yvette's), each one demanding that they have the best just like those before them.

As the day unfolded, Kamilla found herself glued to her 'workstation' in the corner of the store, putting the finishing stitches on the garments that weren't specially ordered by the wealthiest clients. It wasn't much of a surprise to her since she hadn't done much else for the entire season that she'd been working there, though both Yvette and Natalie were definitely starting to warm up to her and slowly but surely trusting her with more duties.

[Job Thread #2] Small Wins, And Losses

Kamilla Circe Gordon

Currently, Kamilla was in the process of joining a sleeve to the rest of a deep blue dress that was covered in unusual patterns that she'd never seen before coming to work for Yvette. She carefully poked the needle through the inside of the sleeve, pulling the thread until it's progress was halted by the knot and then poking the needle back through the other side. Her concentration was almost completely focused on the task at hand, on spacing each stitch perfectly to make sure the pattern was uniform throughout. Unfortunately, performing a straight stitch was far more frustrating than it seemed, each incorrectly spaced stitch drew a inaudible growl from Kamilla's lips as she was forced to pull the thread out backwards and try the stitch again, something that happened far too often.

"Kami, dear! Would you please bring me the roll of silver embroidered royal blue linen."

Although her co-workers were still probably the two most obnoxious and annoying people Kamilla had ever met, she'd grown somewhat accustomed to their flamboyant and superficial behaviour, they were not completely lacking in redeeming qualities though. Yvette, though an obsessive social climber, was actually quite a skilled seamstress, far better than anyone she had ever met, even surpassing her mother's skills and(now that she'd gotten over her power trip) Natalie wasn't nearly as unbearable as she'd originally thought. In fact, her younger co-worker often took advantage of Yvette's absences and used them to strike up a conversation, though their chats were far more Natalie speaking and Kamilla simply nodding and commenting where necessary, which did not seem to bother the young girl who seemed to enjoy the sound of her own voice.

The high-pitched interruption drew yet another, almost silent, grown from Kamilla as she stuck the needle through the sleeve, a fraction of an inch too far from the previous stitch, meaning she'd have to pull it out and try again, but only AFTER she helped Natalie with her completely unnecessary request. Deep brown eyes turned to look from the required roll of material to the pink clad younger seamstress who only two meters away from it, seemingly too occupied with showing the client the royal green version of the same material while their boss, Yvette, laughed and chatted happily with the woman who must have been of high social standing or Yvette would not have been conversing with her in the first place.

With a short huff, a result of the exertion required to moving from the position she'd been sitting in for the past bell, Kamilla pushed herself out of her seat and onto her feet, swiftly making her way over to the required roll of material, making sure to keep a convincing pleasant smile on her face as she did so. Once she'd picked up the roll she took exactly three steps and arrived at her destination, grabbing the edge of the roll and pulling a reasonable amount of cloth so that the customer and Yvette(mostly Yvette) could assess and compare it to the material held by Natalie.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

The other women continued their discussion of the different materials for at least a chime before Yvette began suggesting different styles and from there the topic moved on to pointless babbling about people and events that were of no importance to Kamilla, not that she was even paying attention. She had long since drifted off into thought, only remaining where she was because Natalie was standing beside her silently doing the same thing, except she was completely focused on every word exchanged between Yvette and the customer. Kamilla was sure to keep a friendly smile painted on her face as she waited to be dismissed so that she could return to her sewing, using the short moment of respite to think of new and effective ways of using her reimancy for defence. She was so lost in thought that she did not notice the young man entering the store or the way both Yyvette and Natalie(far more excitedly) perked up as soon as they'd seen him.

"Greetings, Yvette, Natalie, mother. Are you going to be much longer?...Oh, and who might this beautiful young lady be?"

The young man who was handsome, well groomed and quite obviously wealthy(as was evident by his attire) had grabbed and held both her co-workers' attention from the moment he'd walked in. He was clearly familiar with the two women that worked in the store, though the way he emphasised Natalie's name suggested that the two of them may have had some romantic history, a suggestion that was only strengthened by the flirtatious smile offered by the young seamstress. All of which had gone completely unnoticed by Kamilla, up until after the young man had turned his 'charming' gaze toward her distracted form and spoken to her directly. The thing that snapped the young mage out of her daydream was the feeling of several pairs of eyes burning into her skin, causing her to look up, only to have her suspicions confirmed.

To her disdain, everyone's attention was focused on her, each of their gazes holding a different emotion. The young man's held a sort of lustful admiration that made her more than a little uncomfortable, his mother's was sceptic, Yvette's cold and expectant and Natalie's were practically overflowing with envy. The unwanted attention had Kamilla frozen in place with only her eyes darting nervously from person to person as her mind tried to fight it's way out of the state of panic it was so suddenly thrown into.

"Well?..."

The expectant tone of the young man's voice forced her out of her petrified state and into the situation she so desperately wished she could avoid. "I, uh..." she started, fumbling to find any more words as a shy and uncomfortable smile appeared on her face. Luckily, the ticks of awkward silence had spurred the impatient Yvette into action as she quickly intervened, swiftly putting an end to the awkward situation.

"That is Camille...and I'm afraid she has no time to talk because she has a ton of work to do. Don't you dear?"

The intervention was unexpected but, completely welcome, allowing Kamilla to make a quick exit, simply offering a polite nod before returning to her 'workstation' in the farthest corner of the store, a large sigh of relief trying to force it's way from her mouth but restrained by Kamilla out of fear that she was still being watched. She may not have been overly fond of her boss, but she was extremely grateful for the rescue, even if she'd gotten Kamilla's name wrong once again.

The moment she reached her seat, Kamilla went straight back to her sewing, not daring to look up and back at the disaster she'd just barely survived. "Oh, yes...the straight stitch." she mumbled to herself as she pulled the stitch out so she could re-puncture the material after correcting her spacing. As she finished up the last few stitches(of that one sleeve) the sight of Natalie's envious glare popped into her mind, eliciting another silent groan from Kamilla as she anticipated the inevitable backlash, which would surely come in the form of snide remarks, sly glares and more unnecessary work. "Great, another reason to look forward to coming to work everyday." she whispered sarcastically to herself. It seemed everyday at Yvette's would be accompanied by yet another unimportant problem that she didn't care about. Oh the joys of her new life.

Additional Comments

I didn't see a whole lot skills or lore wise, but I did give you want I could. It was short and sweet and to the point and it was a nice quick read. I liked Kamilla's obvious disdain throughout the thread and it made me wonder what exactly will come of her relationship with her coworkers.

Good job, over all, I rather had fun reading this. If you have any concerns or questions at all, don't hesitate to PM and I can see what I can do to fix it! Remember to replace your request and signify that the thread has been graded so ST's can help keep the que clean. Thanks!
