"Petch!"

The sound of her suddenly distressed voice filled the quaint(small) room of The World's End Grotto that the young mage had been using since she'd arrived in Zeltiva two seasons ago and even after all that time she was still grossly unhappy with it's condition. Perhaps it was time that she got a place of her own? Her only reason for not doing so already was that she'd been testing Zeltiva to see whether or not she liked the city enough to make it a permanent residence, but after a spring and a summer in the city of scholars and sailors, Kamilla had taken a definite liking to it.

The city had a very free atmosphere to it, though it was clear that the city was being run by groups of power, the city still had a relaxed air to it. The citizens came in a wide variety, though most being either sailors or somehow involved with Zeltiva's ocean trade or scholars, the latter of which Kamilla could relate to, sharing that thirst for knowledge. On top of all that, Zeltiva was almost completely different from Sunberth, crime was far less common(obviously), people were less cynical(with the exception of Kamilla herself) and poverty wasn't nearly as prominent, with not a single citizen living on the streets. All in all, the city was a massive improvement from Sunberth in every singly way, especially it's views on magic and it's practitioners.

Back in the stuffy room at The World's End Grotto, Kamilla watched helplessly as a small droplet of crimson fluid formed on the tip of her index finger, quickly sticking the digit into her mouth and sucking on it as the sting subsided and was replaced by a small itch. "That's what you get for rushing and deciding you don't need a thimble." she said, scolding herself for her arrogance. She was seated at the very small and only table in her rented room, stitching up some clothing belonging to the owner of the inn, a favour she'd offered in return for some coin in the form of slightly decreased rent, when she'd pricked her finger with the needle.

With the injury dealt with and the blood seeming to have stopped leaking from finger, Kamilla made sure to retrieve the thimble from her sewing kit so that she wouldn't have to relive the annoyance of getting pricked and got back to stitching up a tiny tear in a very unflattering pair of tan pants, running the needle and thread neatly up through the material and back again until she'd closed the hole.

The reason she'd been careless enough to not use her thimble was because she was in a hurry to finish up her patchwork and make for her earthy clearing just out of town. Since her eventual return to the practising of reimancy less than two weeks ago, Kamilla had really been making some progress. She ventured out nearly every day to do some training and had begun to form her own unique style and techniques. The very thought of how much she was improving filled her with excitement, this was after all the entire(well most of) reason she'd left Sunberth, to find a place where she was fear to practice and learn magic without fear. Of course, she was still cautious and avoided open displays of the arcane, but simply knowing that her life wasn't in constant danger meant ann incredible weight had been lifted off of her shoulders.

So, fuelled by enthusiasm and determination, Kamilla sped through the last few clothing repairs she had to make, making quick work(well, quick for her) of the last few patch jobs, not that they were difficult to do at all, only requiring a simple stitching of the sides together and a tying of the knot once completed. The small tailoring favours were becoming an annoyance to her though and she'd also began considering making it her actual job, or more importantly, just getting a job. Sure, having to work a job would spoil her ultimate goal of having complete freedom to study magic, but no dream was perfect and she'd still be getting most of it.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

Barely a bell later, having finished her pile of clothes to be mended, Kamilla found herself nearing the familiar grassless clearing hidden in the wilderness not far out of the city, she had grown quite fond of the large patch of dirt and stone over the past few days, it had become her own unusual little haven, a place where she could feel free to enjoy her magic.
Upon reaching the first in a series of self-created markers, she had turned off of the main road and into the wilds, following each of the two foot high stone obelisks until finally she broke through the thinning undergrowth and into the clearing, a large relieved sigh escaping her lips, not unlike that of someone finally returning home after a long day at work.

Kamilla wasted no time in dropping her bag against it's designated tree and stepping out onto the dirt covered land, making her way for the north western corner where a small stone protrusion about the size of a human head could be seen sticking out of the loose soul. Whilst practising the day before, Kamilla had unearthed the tip of what seemed to be a rather large yet unremarkable boulder and had begun to excavate it, but with Syna being well on her way out of the sky by then, she'd been forced to pack up and leave the task for the next day, today.

One might think that digging a submerged boulder out of loose dirt would be a quick task for an earth reimancer, but it was quite the opposite. While not being a difficult feat, it had proven to be quite time consuming, though the several chimes of practice the day before had yielded what Kamilla thought to be an efficient and effective strategy. It was just as her gran had said, reimancy was learnt and improved through trial and error.

Not wanting to waste any more time than she already had, Kamilla readied herself for the task at hand, taking a deep relaxing breath and closing her eyes as she attempted to make contact with her djed. Over the past few days, she'd come to think of her djed as a dam of water hidden inside of her, it constantly swirled and rippled within but for the most part was trapped beneath her skin. The reason she'd found this concept to be helpful was because when it came to res production, she found it far easier to think of creating a small crack in the damn wall at the point of her choosing and allowing the water(djed) to flow out of it rather than trying to pull the water from the damn with force.

Once she felt relaxed and in touch with her djed, the young mage took another deep breath and as she did she imagined opening a hole from her djed pools and into her lungs. Her lungs steadily filled with res until she felt she'd generated enough and allowed the imaginary hole to close, cutting off the djed flow. With one big breath Kamilla Exhale, expelling a large cloud of gaseous res, the glistening lavender particles floating an arm's length in front of her before gathering closer together, making a compact mist of the ethereal gas occupied roughly cubic foot of space.

Releasing another big breath to make sure she there wasn't any remaining res in her lungs, a force of habit since she knew it not to be the case, Kamilla's arms rose from her side, both pointing in the general direction on the rock protrusion on the ground in front of her. The res cloud obediently floated in the direction it was being directed at and once there, Kamilla began to move her arms in a slow circular motion, as if she were stirring a large invisible pot with both hands empty and palms facing downward.

Her res responded, following it's master's wishes as the glistening mist began to move in a steady circle around the peeking rock, round and round as if it were a shark and the protrusion was it's prey. Once she was happy with the res' circuit and comfortable with maintaining it, Kamilla willed the res to attract earth, the small particles of djed generating a pull too weak to affect anything larger than grains of dirt, and so it began.

The cloud of res circled the rock, gathering more and more of the surrounding sand and effectively revealing more and more of it's mass with each successful orbit and once the res had gathered enough dirt, Kamilla would point her alms over to a small lump of dirt just beyond the dig site and dump it there by releasing the res' hold on the earth, only to return to it's rehearsed track and gather more dirt. After each cycle of gathering and dumping dirt, more and more of the boulder would be revealed, Kamilla's goal of freeing it from it's sand prison getting closer by the moment.

After a few chimes of repeating the same process, just over half of the boulder's mass had been revealed as it sat there patiently waiting in it's slowly deepening hole. Having worked up a small sweat from the light, yet constant, exertion, Kamilla decided it time to take a short break. She dumped one last load of dirt before allowing the mostly decayed res to dissipate before wiping her brow with the back of her hand as she made her way over to her backpack, sitting herself comfortably against the trunk of the tree where she'd left her stuff and taking a swig from her waterskin. "I think I'm making good progress." the words were meant more as encouragement for herself than anything else.

There was a soft pounding at the back of her head, located just between her neck and her skull, a result of the reimancy no doubt although the subtle pain was more of a sign of an approaching headache than a headache on it's own. Either way, Kamilla felt that taking a break was a good idea, she'd witnessed the damage overgiving could cause to the body and mind and tried her hardest to stay as far from the line as she could, something that wasn't always possible, but it helped to know your limits.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

Two bells passed, the only sounds to be heard being those of leaves rustling in the breeze and birds singing in the distance, when Kamilla finally stirred, looking around nervously as she realised that she had accidentally fallen asleep and her thirty chime break had turned into a two bell nap. She quickly jumped to her feet, still looking a bit frazzled, though she was more annoyed than anything. How could she have been so careless as to fall asleep in the middle of the wilderness, any predator, man or beast, could have crossed paths with her defenceless sleeping body.

Kamilla ran a hand through her long dark brown hair and reassured herself that she was perfectly fine, calming down with a large sigh, one last suspicious glance was cast at the surrounding clearing and once the coast was 'clear' she made her way across the dirt and toward the half dug out boulder. "Back to work." she said cheerfully as she repeated the process from before; filling her lungs with res, exhaling the glistening cloud, willing her res to circle the boulder while attracting the dirt and finally dumping the dirt onto the now large heap.

This time she allowed herself only five chimes of 'digging' before taking a break, not wanting to force her phantom headache into existence. Luckily, it only took three shifts until the boulder was almost completely dug out as it waited in it's big circular hole and another chime passed as Kamilla took some time to simply look at her work with a proud smile on her face.

With the boulder now seeming to rest on the dirt rather than protrude from beneath it, Kamilla figured she'd uncovered enough of it to move on to the next stage, but not before taking another five chime break to go and drink some water. By now Syna was well past her apogee and Kamilla estimated that she had just under two bells before Leth took over, but she would make sure she was back in town by then.

Five chimes later, once her self-imposed recess was over, Kamilla returned to the just over a meter deep hole that contained the boulder and prepared herself for what was to come. A deep breath was taken in preparation and once it was released she set her gaze on the large, no longer buried, rock with a look of eager determination.

Since her return to reimancy on the third, under two weeks ago, when she attempted to use her res' attraction rather than just transmutation and gotten hit in the head by a stone, she had decided not to sweep the effect under the rug. Over her days of training she'd discovered that making use of already existing resources was far more djed efficient than creating them all the time, and anything that saved djed and pro-longed the avoidance of overgiving was worth attention.

So, now that she'd excavated a large boulder, entirely with her res attraction effect, she was curious as to just how far she could push it. Rubbing her hands together excitedly, Kamilla began to emit res from her palms, this time in it's liquid form, and continued to do so until a glistening ball about the size of her head(sans hair) floated silently in front of her.

Turning her palms from an upward facing position to a downward facing one, the gesture served to indicate her intentions for the ball of res which then followed her instruction and sank into the hole. Upon reaching the boulder, Kamilla spread her fingers and once again the ball of res obeyed and began to spread across the surface of the boulder until it was almost entirely coated in the glistening lavender substance.

"Finally."

Her words were that of an impatient person who'd finally reached their goal, concentration evident in her eyes as she stared down at the res coated boulder. With a clenching of her hands into fists, Kamilla willed her res to grab onto the boulder with it's elemental attraction effect and once it had done so, she slowly began to raise her hands, pulling on the res.

At first the only thing that happened was a slight trembling of the boulder as she attempted to pull it from the remaining surrounding dirt. The movements continued for a few more ticks before finally, it broke free of the earth's grasp and slowly began to rise into the air. The higher it rose, the more cautious Kamila became, the last thing she wanted was to be crushed by a boulder because of her own carelessness, something that was quite possible given the current situation, all it took was one slip.

By now the res coated boulder had risen to about arm's height and Kamilla thought it best to take a few precautionary and yet unsteady(due to the loose dirt) steps backwards, putting about a meter and a bit between herself and the hulking mass. Once she'd increased the gap, she resumed the raising of her arms and the boulder followed, rising until it was suspended about three meters into the air. Slowly she moved her arms from side to side, attempting to measure the degree of control she had over the mass and watched as the boulder obeyed, mirroring her movements with slightly less enthusiasm.

She could feel the burden of the boulder on her arms, as if she were physically holding It's diminished weight up in the air. The strain was obviously far less than the actual weight of the boulder, but it was there. So, deciding she didn't want to find out how much of the exertion she could take by losing hold of the mass and watching it plummet back to the ground(and perhaps even onto her) Kamilla began the final stage of her little experiment.

With her neck slightly craned in order to watch the floating boulder, Kamilla's outstretched arms rose above her head and began to slowly wave back and forth, her res making the giant rock do the same. Once she was satisfied with the movement she took a deep breath and began counting backwards from three in preparation. "Okay. Three, two...one!" with that she flung her hands forwards, throwing the boulder with as much force as she could muster.

The large rock jumped through the air for a brief moment before it began it's curved descent towards the ground, a result of it's weight being affected by gravity. It landed in the dirt with a loud thud, throwing dirt into the air and sending a small tremor through the ground which ran up Kamilla's legs like the recoil received from swinging wooden bat against something solid.

It continued to roll on for a short distance after it landed before finally coming to a halt and the moment it had stopped Kamilla stepped forward eagerly to assess the distance it had been thrown. She estimated it had flown about three meters before landing in the dirt(as was evident by a small crater) and rolled on for another two meters before coming to a stop. Five meters may not have been that impressive but it was far more than most people could do with their bare hands and that made it an amazing feat in her eyes.

Kamilla stood there for a moment longer with a large smile on her face, not only was she satisfied with the results but she was proud too. She had set out to do something and emerged successful, though it was not all sweet. The headache that had threatened to appear had done just that, Kamilla felt as if the boulder she had just thrown was pushing down on her head, throbbing silently. She took the pounding headache as a sign that she had done enough for the day and besides, if she didn't leave soon, she'd be caught in the dark as the sun had already begun to set in the distance.

Walking over to the tree that sheltered her backpack, with a few shaky steps(a result of the tremor and exertion) before her legs steadied some, Kamilla took another drink from her waterskin, effectively emptying it, and made to leave. She stopped to cast one last glance at the clearing, the hole, the dirt pile, the crater and the boulder, all evidence of what she'd accomplished, another large smile crossing her face before she turned and left, following the trail of small stone markers she'd created back to the main road that led to Zeltiva.

Overgiving: Kamilla's skin on the tops of her hands is noticeably harder for the next few days; the headache persists into the next morning.

Fun! Kamilla is a determined little animal, haha. I liked the emphasis on her taking breaks; it really brought out the whole mentality of "reimancy is dangerous so don't be stupid!" I ended up giving you digging instead of archeology, since it's just a rock. If you'd like me to change it, I don't really have a problem with it, though I think digging is slightly more appropriate. I'm lookin forward to getting to read more of your threads!
