Painting Skill Interest

Would anyone be interested in seeing the Painting skill fully worked out? I was thinking of doing it myself, but I'd like to see if anyone would be interested first.

Okay, I put the request up. Hopefully it'll be accepted. I plan to drop some info here every now and again. If anyone has anything they'd like to see answered ask away.

Edited: And there is now a very rough draft of the contents. If anyone has any questions or things they'd like to see in the skill lore please let me know.

Painting Skill Interest

With the proposal accepted, I've been working fully on the Article. I do however need some help. Around different places in Mizahar, how does one gather colors? Do you smash berries that you collect in the Wildlands? Do you grind down plants that have colorfully fluids? This is something I can't answer on my own, so any help would be appreciated.

Below is the current outline that I'm working on, if you have something you want added feel free to tell me, as well as ask questions:
I. Overview

III. Color Palettes

III.II Cool
III.III Neutral

IV. Color Creation

Painting Skill Interest

I can't say what might be region-specific to Mizahar, but here are references you might find useful on making paints in general and some specific sources for colors.

Pigments: Historical, Chemical, and Artistic Importance of Coloring Agents -- This mostly talks about specific colors, but you can abstract it to methods of processing types of material (plant, mineral, etc.). There are also links to other resources at the bottom.

Making Paint from Soil -- A general overview with further resources at the bottom. Despite the title, it covers more than just soil.

The Anatomy of Paint: Pigment and Binder -- Another overview, and part of what looks like a fairly comprehensive series of posts.

I hope these help!

Painting Skill Interest

Postby Vanessa Lawson on February 10th, 2015, 3:12 pm

Okay so thanks to Eleret's links, I was able to come up with a basic summary for Gathering colors based on pigments. It's not much, but after a bit more googling I found some good information. It's not much but it is a start.

[Gathering Colors]
Gathering colors is a simple process as long as the painter knows what to look for. There are many plants, herbs, foods, and objects that can be dried and/or ground down into paint pigment. Certain nuts such as hazelnuts and almonds can be ground into pigment to create shades of brown. Dry grass, leaves, or plant stalks can be ground down for shades of green. Bones of all kinds can be ground into whites, etc. Many painters experiment with different colors.

I'd like to point out a few syntax errors. If I may.

process as long as the Painter knows what to look for

Painter should not be capitalized

Certain Nuts such as hazelnuts and almonds can be ground into Pigment to create shades of brown

Nuts and pigment should not be capitalized

plant stalk's can be ground down for shades of green

Stalks should not have an apostrophe

Many Painter's experiment with different colors.

Painters should not be capitalized and should not have an apostrophe.

I hope I helped c:

A small summary for related skills is below. Hopefully I fixed everything before hand, but if there's something you think needs more explaining in any of the future summary's, let me know. :3

Drawing can often be used as a stepping stone for painting. Painting is the art of creating images or designs on any object, while drawing is more simple and but requires paper. Organization goes hand in hand with painting, mainly because colors must be layered correctly so that color ‘a’ is in the first layer is not darker than color ‘b’ in the second. It tasks the artisan with ordering the colors when making larger more detailed pictures. Meditation is a useful skill when attempting to focus. Clearing one's thoughts can help the painter get a clear visual and ignore distractions.
