Time: Late Evening
Location: Aboard the Kova III

"Nothing. Nothing but the stars, the moon and the sea."

It was day nine of the Kova III's trip to Sahova, the sailors had said that they would be arriving sometime before noon and most of the ships inhabitants were now sleeping soundly below, except for a few of the crew who continued their duties around the ship and, looking out at the infinite ocean, Kamilla. The night's silence was broken only by the sound of waves against the ship's hull and the constant moans and groans of the Kova III as it worked tirelessly to reach its destination.

The entire trip had been a first for the young sorceress, she had never been on a ship before and although she had spent her first few days at sea experiencing the delights of its sickness, she had eventually come to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere that it granted. Here in the stillness of the night, accompanied only by the stars, the moon and the waves, the salty sent of the air as it drifted by, sending shivers down her spine, Kamilla couldn't help but be in awe of it all. The combination of senses that being at sea allowed was one she was sure could not be replicated in anyway or form and even though not seeing so much as a stone for several days had instilled a constant anxiety in the back of her mind, for now she was grateful.

Currently she stood alongside the ship's railings, one hand gripping it firmly while the other trailed the wood, drawing imaginary patterns upon its surface as she looked out into the distance. She had resolved to put her hopes and doubts of Sahova away until she actually arrived on the place they called The Undead Isle, figuring that there was no point in expending her energy on something that was pointless. Instead, Kamilla found herself simply relaxing, enjoying what the ocean had to offer as she stood there in silence, clearing her mind of all thoughts and allowing the peace of the sea to envelope her.

The young sorceress had no idea how long she'd been meditating in that position, attempting to rid herself of any abstract weight that may have been pushing down on her and yet, something continuously prodded at her consciousness, begging to be given attention, to be acknowledged. Kamilla knew what it was, it had existed there in the corner of her mind for quite some time now and she finally decided that it was time to address it.

Kamilla was not sure it had been there, but she suspected it that it had been for the better part of a season, perhaps longer. Some time ago she had noticed something teetering on the edge of her magic influence, when her djed escaped her body in the form of res, she could feel it, a hint of something more than what she currently possessed. It wasn't something tangible, not yet, it was more of a feeling, something she could sense just outside her sphere of awareness, inexplicable yet undeniable, like the feeling of being watched.

Taking in a deep breath, Kamilla coaxed the well of energy within her to move outward, directing a small stream of it toward her lungs until she could feel them being filled with gaseous res. Satisfied with the amount produced, she let it out, a glistening lavender mist escaping her lips and hovering over the edge of the ship, floating alongside it loyally as it followed it's creator. The moment the res had been expelled she could feel it again, tapping at the windows of her existence, like something that was as the tip of her tongue but couldn't be brought into existence.

The feeling continued to prod at her, it pulled at her res, trying to direct the magic substance in its own direction and as it pulled, Kamilla released her own grasp on the cloud of mist, allowing it to search for the unseen apparition. As she her instincts to take hold, she felt it, whatever it was, growing nearer and nearer, until she felt as if she could almost touch it with her res and, seizing the moment, she tried. Transmuting her res as the feeling grew nearer and less intangible.

Brown eyes watched the glistening mist expectantly as she willed the res to obey her will and in what could only be described as an anticlimax and a let down, the cloud responded by turning to dust, along with Kamilla's hopes of discovering what it was that tugged at her res. Almost immediately a loud sigh of disappointment escaped her lips, the feeling had felt close enough to grab, certainly closer than it had ever been before and yet, not close enough.

Even though she couldn't quite recognize what the feeling was, but she wasn't completely oblivious. The way it tugged at her res, wanting to encompass it, to take hold of it, even the most inexperienced reimancer could have guessed that it was the beginnings of a new element. But even with that knowledge, attaining the element was no easier than before, it was an unusual thing to learn something with your soul rather than your mind.

The element, if that's what it was, was very different compared to her first. The element of earth was heavy and solid, she could grasp at it, feel it as if it were in her very hands, while this new feeling was fleeting, she could feel it brushing up against her consciousness yet when she attempted to return the touch there was nothing there, it was light, shapeless and whimsical, it was..."Air."

Finally, the word came to her, the feeling that had been prodding at her consciousness for weeks had now been recognised, but putting a name to the feeling didn't make it any easier to grasp or control. Once again, Kamilla expelled a cloud of res from her lungs and attempting to grasp at the element once more. Just like before, it drifted towards her, mocking her as it flitted about, brushing happily past her. She waited patiently for it to brush past her once again and the moment it did she transmuted her res once more, earning the same result as before, though she could have sworn there was less dust this time.

With frustration now running through her body, Kamilla let out a soft growl of annoyance as she watched her transmuted dust drift away on a breeze, following along with it and assuming it's path as if it were her own. "That's it!" the excitement in her voice was evident as the young mage instantly perked up, hopping eagerly as she exhaled another cloud of glistening lavender res for the third time.

The reason she hadn't been able to grab a hold of the new element was obvious, because she couldn't, it was air and although air could be felt, it couldn't be grasped, air was free to do as it pleased and the only way to earn it's allegiance was to join it. This time, instead of attempting to grab at the air, she allowed it to brush past her and instead simply followed it with her consciousness, no longer holding onto her sense of self but releasing her ties to earth and floating along with the newer and very opposite element.

It was now, now that she felt one with the wind, that Kamilla transmuted her cloud of res, willing it two join consciousness in weightlessness and with a soft whisper, the res disappeared, taking on it's new and invisible form. The only reason that Kamilla could still follow it's new state was because of the ocean mist which hung in the air.

This new accomplishment, the earning of a new element sent a flood of happiness through her body, a girlish laugh bursting from the young sorceress' lips as she bounced up and down in excitement. Expelling a bit more of her res, though this time it rose from her palm in the form of a small glistening ball of liquid. With a backward swing of her right arm, as if she were spreading bird seed, Kamilla sent her res in a small, thin, arc, transmuting it while in her new weightless state of mind. Once again the res went from a glistening lavender to invisible, though she could both hear it rushing outward and see the sudden and violent disturbance in the sea mist that had been casually drifting by, it's original course interrupted by the magic as it was sent rushing in the same direction.

Kamilla could hardly contain her excitement as the feeling of success overcame her being, sending her face into a massive beaming smile that bordered on insane. This was it, her skill at reimancy had finally evolved and the reward was a second element, the element of air. Although she would have preferred water, seeing it as more useful than air, she was still both grateful and relieved that it wasn't fire, she wasn't ready to face her fear of the wild element, not yet. Having accomplished something that she hadn't even considered a few bells ago, Kamilla decided that she'd done enough for the night and left to get some sleep, now significantly more confident facing whatever Sahova had to offer.

Congratulations! New elements! I'm always interested to see how other people approach learning a new element, and this was certainly not something I had ever thought of before. Very creative and interesting to read!

If you have any questions or concerns, please send me a PM!
