Kavala knew the Festival of Hope was just ten days away. Winter was here and that meant downtime for most of the staff. There were no foals, no calves, and no lambs or goat kids to escort into the world. And there was no breeding schedule, no clientele coming in and out for all of the above things either. They were in a holding pattern of feeding, cleaning, sheltering and doing the much needed repairs or remodeling that needed doing but was put off during warmer months. The Animal Healer was always busy, especially since she was teaching a new group of students new skills, but there was always time for her family.

Kavala had learned long ago that family was important, especially her children. And she had all three of them in tow. Tasi was four and growing fast. He walked quietly along with her. They'd left the pony cart at the city stables and had decided to walk from there. Ral'ac and Ia'del were two year old toddlers that would tire fast, but for now the boy was walking well, and Ia was curled against her mother's side already being carried. Ia'del was small, born extremely premature, while her brother Ral'ac had been born late. The two had been carried together in a twist of natural fate, though they were not twins. Ral'ac and his dark brother Inadan held his sister's hand rather than his mothers. While Tasival and his dark brother Shayru kept his little hand on the small of his mother's back, as if he were escorting the two women all by himself. The boys were Akontak, while the tiny girl was Konti like her mother.

The four of them looked like each other, the females delicate beauties while the males had boyish charm that promised they would grow strong, tall, and be protective. Tasi wore a miniature set of leather's in black patterned like his mother's white set of leathers. It was odd the Konti woman wore warriors garments rather than the long artistic dresses most females in Riverfall enjoyed. However, she did blend into the crowds at the Zhongjie Warren. There were a lot of Akalak in leathers there. And more than one casually glanced at the Konti woman's wrist, as if looking for a Kuvan Tattoo or a Nakivak Cuff. Kavala had the tattoo. Disappointment flickered across more than one tinted male's face. A woman with children meant fertility among a dying race with fertility problems. If she had worn a Nakivak Cuff, they wouldn't have left her alone. But she was a full citizen, and that gave her rights and put her off limits to harassment of certain types, even in crowds.

"I want to do a sculpture!" The oldest boy said, as if he just decided. The younger boy seemed to consider this idea and shook his head. "Not me. I want to make... a poster with blue and glitter and maybe stones or bark or fur." Kavala smiled. Ia'del was asleep so she couldn't voice her opinions just yet. "We'll get you clay, Tasi. And we can make glue for you at home Ralac. But we need poster board or canvas, already stretched... and coloring supplies for Ia and more paper. I thought to get inks too. Maybe even try my hand at entering something. I always feel better if we celebrate the Festival of Hope by entering art. Will that work with everyone?" The children agreed as Kavala waded with them into the crowds. There were several booths that sold art supplies, clay, clay tools for Tasi would need those as well, and paper products deep int he Zhongjie Warrens. She just had to find them.

Opening her senses like a tracker, Kavala had no idea where to find the art supplies and was hoping somehow she could find a way to find them. Aware, carefully placing her steps, Kavala kept herself 'open' to hopefully sense animals that knew where the art supply stands were. Perhaps the owners had pets. Perhaps the birds fluttering around knew where the brightly colored supplies were. She wanted to avoid walking the whole market just to find the one or two booths - art and paper supplies - she was looking for.

Kavala wondered if her Konti gift had been changing lately. Sometimes when she did this she swore she heard voices. Small dogs in the market speaking about treats, snacks, bites of food from the passersbys. A mouse chanting 'drop it drop it' to people walking by snacking on bubbly berry pies. Yesterday she'd even swore one of her patients had hissed in pain and then called her something nasty under her breath as she'd removed porcupine quills from a dog's nose. She half feared the same thing in the market, but opened her senses wide anyhow.

She didn't find talking animals, not at the moment, but instead found a hurting kelvic.

But when she opened her senses, a kelvic's emotions struck her hard. Young. Tinged with grief. Lonely. Somewhat lost. It felt predatory but not on the hunt. Kavala turned her head, scanning the crowd, looking for the source of the emotion. It was a child kelvic, for sure, though not super young.... but it was lost... very lost... and alone. Kavala didn't sense the lost was in the physical, as if the Kelvic didn't know where it was. Instead, the lost feeling came from a core of displacement and of being alone. Wandering.

The Konti changed directions as her Konti gift honed in on the emotions and narrowed the direction she was headed. She increased her speed. Ralac began to skip to keep up with her which didn't seem to bother the toddler. He was a happy boy with a lot of energy.

Cat. Kavala would bet it was a big cat cub. At first she wondered if one of the Akalaks had imported a new kelvic pet. The Akalaks tended to treat them as pets even though they often took them to bed and used them for breeding. She'd be furious if she found one of the men with a young kelvic female with emotions like that. Cats bonded quickly, in most cases, and grew to please their masters. The Akalak almost always imported Kelvics that were animals no one thought important elsewhere on Mizahar. Rabbits, mice, small ponies. Most of them came from the pens of Ravok where they bred kelvics to fight and experiment on. Unfortunately they kept all the predator kelvics though and brought them together to breed if they were good fighters. But they never produced true. Cats might produce birds. Canines might produce rabbits. The excess were sold off, mostly to Riverfall as mothers. More than one Akalak in the crowd had a kelvic mother. They were sturdy, usually carried the large Akalak fetis' well, and survived births.

But this one.... Kavala stretched her senses. No, not exactly a cub, but not an adult. The emotions of the cat circled through her helping her to narrow down her search, looking hard. And as she did so she began to feel the masculine energies around the Kelvics' mind. A boy then. No wonder he felt loss. A male kelvic in Riverfall had no value other than to be a pet. Sometimes they were given to Nakivaks as guardians or protectors, but this one was far too young.

Blue eyes scanned the crowd. She was closer. The emotions were stronger. The four of them wove through the crowd again and came out at the very booth they were looking for... art supplies. The proprietor was demonstrating his skills by working on a painting and a young man was watching him off to one side. Outwardly he looked like an older child fast approaching teenage years. He'd be mature soon, within a year, but until then he was radiating sadness and more than a few feelings of loss. But the artist painting was distracting him, enough so that Kavala confidently approached.

She put her arm on his shoulder and gently got his attention with a soft squeeze. "Do you need help? You are radiating a sense of being lost. Maybe we can help?" She asked, looking into the young man's eyes. "I'm Kavala Denusk. I'm an animal healer. I deal with kelvics too. I can tell you aren't human. These are my sons and my daughter." The Konti said introducing each child carefully. "We were looking for this very booth. I thought to get the kids art supplies to make an entry for the gallery for the Festival of Hope in ten days. Do you like art? Maybe you could join us for a bit and do some art with the us." Kavala invited casually, not wanting to scare the Kelvic, but wanting him to know why they were there and what the plan for the day was. Away from the market, perhaps someplace quieter, they could talk further.

She didn't get the sense he was on the run or in trouble, but there was always that possibility. And as she stood next to him, she was intent on eavesdropping on his emotions, looking for any sign of violence or aggression. There seemed to be none. She didn't want her children hurt just because she felt the need to help someone.

"Hi!" Tasi said even as Ralac let go of Ia's sleeping hand and waved slightly. Kavala's daughter kept sleeping even though she momentarily cracked open an eye and peered at the stranger before drifting back to sleep.

[Zhongjie Warren] Gathering Art Supplies (Adyel)

Adyel was deep in his thoughts, the artist toolkit given to him by his mother weighed like bricks. And his mother's death had hurt Adyel. It has been a little over a season since her death. He hasn't even had visited her grave yet. He wanted to cry, but he didn't want to show weakness. He felt hopeless, without his mother. Lost even. He had a beneficial connection between her. It felt like she was the only connection he had had while in Riverfall. He didn't really fit well with the other kids. His mother, was not only his mother, but as well as his best friend.

He has been told that he has a cousin, who lives in Syliras? Was it? And was his name.... Revali? Or was it something else. His mother used to take him to the Warren so he could see what it was like. He seemed to be staring at some sort of interesting drawing, one that really had had caught his attention. He remembered, when he was sitting at a table in the apartment he was drawing pictires for his mother and she sat across from him smiling and encouraging him to draw more.

The days grew colder and now the thoughts of being alone, with no house or shelter to be protected in. Tears started to swell in his eyes. The eyes turning glossy and wet, he just stood there oblivious to his surroundings now. All of these thoughts were making him dizzy. He just needed a place to settle down, and cry his heart out for the rest of his life. Bit he knows that he shouldn't cry over his mother for to long. But he wanted to cry, just not cry alone...

Now, a tear started to make its way down one of Adyels cheeks, he knew that he shouldn't have come back, but where else should he have had gone, Zeltiva was announced to be closed soon anyways. He didn't enjoy being in the orphanage. He felt to cooped up. He was moderately angry at the Gods for taking his mother. It wasn't her time yet. She was really energetic, optimistic being. It still hurt revealing some memories of his mother.

Well, it wasn't long till Adyel was brought back to the present. A warm touch on his shoulder startled him. He jumped and turned to face the female who had laid her hand upon it. "Do you need help? You are radiating a sense of being lost. Maybe we can help?" She asked, looking into the young man's eyes. "I'm Kavala Denusk. I'm an animal healer. I deal with kelvics too. I can tell you aren't human. These are my sons and my daughter."

Lost? Lost and helpless, Adyel tried to gather all of his thoughts. But too many kept flowing through. He really needed someplace to clear his mind. "Help? Um... His words trailed off as he attempted to prevent some tears to stop flowing down his cheek. It was embarrassing, but yet emotional. Perhaps the other Riveraians can understand? He didn't really know why he was here in the first place. Perhaps it is one of the places that he had known of to go to?

Adyel stiffled in "Hello.." The young Kelvic said sadly, but kindly. He added, "I'm Adyel. Adyel Gaelson..." Using his mother surname had hurt as much as thinking of her. But he had never known his father. He left when he was born. He wanted to know his father. But at the same time he wished that he didn't. It was confusing to him. How thoughts can work and assemble.

Kavala, that was how she introduced herself as. Said that they were looking for the art booth. Adyel didn't have an apparent reason for why he was here. Besides that this is one of the other places he had visited with his mother. She talked about the Festival of Hope. And how they were getting supplies for art. And she asked him if he liked to draw. The bag had suddenly even weighed more, and it was bringing him down. He felt exhausted, hungry, and more so alone and helpless.

He didn't know what to do with his coins, his mother hadn't really had shown him how to use them. "Yes... I do like to draw ms. The name was a bit difficult for him to pronounce though. So he just went with ms. Adyels brown hair felt greasy. And he was still worn out. Tired from trying to find the Warren. He yawned with his next reply as one of the boys said Hi. "Hello..." Adyel replied slowly.

The Kelvics' emotions washed over her. Exhaustion. Hunger. Helplessness. And that sense of being so utterly alone. She stepped closer and shifted, digging into her belt pouch one-handedly while she shifted her Konti daughter higher on her hip. She rummaged through what looked like a bag full of children's snacks. The Kelvic would smell sweets, crackers, and the pungent scent of seaweed - a snack for Kavala and Ia'del - but in the bottom of the bag wrapped in cloth were bundles of dried meat cut into strips that were designed to be chewed on. The beef jerky was perfectly seasoned and there was a lot of it. Her Akontak boys were big eaters and frequently hungry. She often accused them of having a hollow leg.

Kavala withdrew the jerky and reached out, taking Adyel's hand in a juggling act with the little girl on her hip, and deposited the jerky into his hand. It filled his hand and more. "You look hungry. That's fresh made beef jerky that was marinated in a rich sauce before it was dried. It will take the edge off your hunger until we can get somewhere and make some lunch or order some." At that point the boys crowded in and she delivered more of the jerky to both Taisval and Ralac. They had no hesitation digging in. Then she returned to the belt pouch, pulled a strip of seaweed out for Ia so the girl wasn't left out and then produced a small homemade almond cookie for each of them as a slight desert.

A small mouse darted out from under the leg of one of the booths. It stared at the woman handing out food. A small voice whispered "Me too! Me!" in a high squeaky voice. Kavala slipped a cracker free when she was sure everyone was distracted, and tossed it carefully in the mouse's direction.

Kavala was a mother. And what she did best was mother little ones, even those that weren't her own. When her hands were free of food and everyone had a snack, she reached out and touched Adyel. She stroked his hair gently and lightly scratched his scalp at the base of his neck. It was a bold move, but he felt so painfully young to her and lost. She wanted to comfort him. And she knew food and touch was a good way. "You should come home with us. This lot is going to need a nap fairly soon... me too for that matter... and then we have artwork to work on. You snack really fast and I'll get us the art supplies we need." She said, turning to the vendor and in rapid fire shopping in a way that indicated she knew what she wanted.

The canvases and paper was wrapped up in a bundle with the paints, new brushes, and pastel chalks and the whole lot of it was arranged to be delivered to the stables where a cart awaited. Adyel would notice Kavala ordered more items than the children could use. There were ten canvases and a whole ream of paper suitable for nice artwork.

If Adyel agreed to come with them, the Konti would move slowly with her band of children through the market and pick up other items. She spent good coin, picking up clothing here and there, all of it too big for herself and the children, but most of it suitable for Adyel's size. A set of two leathers were purchased. One in black and one in a soft golden brown. A sleep shirt, underthings suitable for a growing boy, and good quality cotton pants and tunics. Here and there she picked up other things - a soft shirt for Ia'del and a new belt for Tasival. A second belt joined the first one - again too big for the Konti but perfect for Adyel's size - as well as shoes.

When the got to the shoe seller, Kavala paused, looked at Adeyl thoughtfully, and quietly asked. "I can guess at your size on the clothing. But shoes are too important. We live in a big place with lots of animals. There are primarily horses and dogs, but there are some big cats, small cats, and birds. Everyone helps out, so its good to have sturdy workboots and then nice shoes to wear inside that haven't been worn through a stable. I'd like to get you a couple more sets of shoes but I don't want to guess on them. Will you try them on for me? Maybe even some slippers for roaming the Within at night? The floors are stone and can be quite cold." She asked, concerned he'd balk and not want to do it. She could tell he'd need the clothing, and beyond that an oiled rain slicker lined with fur for the snow and cold rain of winter.

[Zhongjie Warren] Gathering Art Supplies (Adyel)

Adyel was hungry. Tired. He just wanted to go somewhere where he could be able to refresh both of them. He knew he shouldn't have been staring at this drawing down on the post. He knew that being a Kelvic, one that is alone, would have the risk of being captured and be used for breeding. He shivered at that thought. Adyel didn't really have any reason of being here. He also knew that being here in Riverfall was going to be hard, but it is what he knew.

The lady who called herself, Kavala. Took his hand gently after shuffling through her pack and handed him some beef jerky. She explained how it was well seasoned and all. The young Kelvic took the jerky mercifully and begun to gnaw on it. Savoring every bite that he had taken. It was delicious no doubt. And Adyel quickly finished Ryder jerky as Adyel agreed to follow Kavala through the Warren. Adyel noticed that she was purchasing some extra apparel. Some stuff for the young ones, syncs start Adyel assumed, for him?

Is this what you would use the coins for? Adyel thought. The tool-kit in his pack weighed heavier and Adyel seemed to have swelled with sadness. He missed his mother. Why is Kavala buying all of these things for Adyel? Was she good friends with his mom or something?

Adyel pondered this as they group walked down through the Warren. She bought him all kinds of things; pants, belts, shirts, even pajama sets. Adyel felt guilty that she had to pay for his stuff. Adyel would pay, but he doesn't know how money works and how to use it. If only he had someone to teach/show him.

They reached the stall where the shoes and boots were sold at. She asked Adyel if he can take off his shoes to get the right fit Kavala said to Adyel, "I'd like to get you a couple more sets of shoes but I don't want to guess on them. Will you try them on for me? Maybe even some slippers for roaming the Within at night? The floors are stone and can be quite cold." Adyel nodded. Now he was curious about this Kavala. What did she really want to gain from Adyel?

He still was upset about his mother's passing. And he was even more upset of his father. He had left after his birth and never came back. Mother thought he was dead, but she had also said that Adyel has a step brother as well. Revali, might be the name. Mother hadn't talk about Revali and his side of the family. Adyel thought that she had said that Revali had lived in Syliras. Wherever that was.

"Yes, I can try some on." Adyel replied as his hunger has been satisfied slightly. His stomach growled a bit though. And he was still tired, he can't wait to take a nap. He slipped out of his old boots that have been ripped from the soles and the sides. Once he left his boots his feet felt more free, as if the boots he had had were small.

A had chosen a pair of khaki colored boots, one size up. Fairly used. He tried them on. And Adyel seemed happy with this choice. "I like this pair, Ms. Kavala." Adyel said warmly. He slipped those off and spotted a nice pair of blue dyed slippers, just for his size. He quickly grabbed them and tried them on. They felt warm and comfy. "These slippers work to."Adyel said.

There was another pair of shoes, dyed khaki colored almost white. Sort of a beige color. He tried them on and they seemed to work as well."These work? But I have a question?" Adyel said curiously. He waited for her to respond. The Kelvic wanted to know why she was being so nice to him when they had just met. And she is acting as if she might be...

... "Is she trying to be my mom or something?" Adyel thought. He wanted to know, but he didn't want to be so demanding about it. Finding something to say it the right way was difficult. He wanted to wait and find out to see if he could ask...

Kavala was glad Adyel was not going giving her much trouble about picking out things for him as they moved through the market. She was even more thankful he spoke up about what shoes and slippers he wanted and agreed to try them on. He looked like he was still growing to her because she was used to Kelvics. To others he might appear mature, but his underlying emotions and his sense of youth and insecurity filled her awareness to the point she had to dampen some of her gift to mute a bit of his feelings out. They were still on the edge of her awareness, accessible, but they weren't overwhelming her.

She had lots of practice, living with two teenage Kelvic twins her brother had sired and then left with her. And she often thought everything happened for a reason. Maybe Larik and Cadra's presence had been meant and planned, not only for their own happiness and success in life, but to smooth the way for this young one and others who came after.

Kavala smiled. And while she finished the transaction with the cobbler and arranged to have those shoes delivered (along with another pair for the other children), Adyel seemed to struggle with something else, as if he wanted to speak. She paused before him, in her hands a fur lined cloak stretched out. She was measuring the shoulder inseams, checking to make sure it was long enough and wide enough for his slight frame.

Nodding her approval again, she met his gaze and looked thoughtfully at him, waiting for him to finish his thought. When he paused, she offered him a smile, and said quietly.

"You should feel free to ask anything at all you want. Now, what is it?" She asked, widening her gift again, trying to feel what he was feeling. She had a strong empathetic gift towards his kind, but she was no mind reader. His emotions were curious, scared, tired, lonely... questioning. She didn't know him well enough to piece together the rest.

Evidently the denizens of the market didn't stop to think Adyel was the only one she was concerned about in that moment. A yowlwing, one of the common winged house cats of Riverfall, poked its head around an awning where it was perched and observed the quartet. It purred loudly and added its own comments to the mix. "Kitten hasn't decided to trust the Healer Lady. Careful Healer Lady. Danger Healer Lady. He might eat you. He smells of big and wild and teeth." The cat said, a bit arrogant and definitely taking big deep sniffs from Adyel's direction.

Kavala glanced sharply at the newcomer to the conversation. This was the most in-depth she'd heard an animal speak. She glanced at Adyel and then at her two boys who were awake, looking to see if they heard what she'd just heard.

[Zhongjie Warren] Gathering Art Supplies (Adyel)

Postby Adyel on December 24th, 2015, 7:07 pm

Kavala, was gentle. Adyel wanted to know why she was being so generously kind to Adyel. Why was she being so nice to him? What was in it for her? How should Adyel even word his question. His head felt dizzy with all of these thoughts pondering throughout his mind. It even gave him a slight headache.

"How, How come your being so nice to me, and buying all of these things for me?" Adyel asked curiously. But friendly like. The Kelvic slipped out of the slippers that he wanted. And slipped his feet back into his original shoes. He wantCS to know, was it bad to know? Would knowing make Adyel feel better?

Adyel just wanted all of these questions to stop. If Kavala would answer Adyel inquiry, possibly some of these questions would stop flowing through his mind. And Adyel could maybe feel less stressed of them as well. When he was younger his mother would take him to the Warren sometimes. Just to go look at stuff.

She has had also taught him how to draw. He isn't the best at it yet, but he wants to be one of the best. The thought of drawing made the toolkit in the Kelvics pack feel ever do heavier. It pained the boy of how it has had hurt him, thinking of his mother. He didn't know what to do now. If Adyel ran away again, would Kavala ever take him back, if he had chosen to?

Adyel doesn't like orphanages either. It's too crowded with children. Especially the one in Zeltiva. Adyel just had had to get away from that place. He didn't belong near the coast, he also didn't like the ocean. He doesn't have a good reason as of yet, but it still scared him. A lion isn't the king of the ocean, it's not a domain where they should be.

Being in Zeltiva, it just didn't feel right for Adyeswordswanted to be free. He wanted to feel like he was a real lion, not cooped up in some orphanage where he didn't have anyone to be on his side. And then again, that feeling of being alone struck him like he was playing with wooden swords. He wanted to start crying again, he missed his mom, deeply. He wished she hadn't passed.

And anger swept over him once again. Why did his father have to leave him? Was another family not good enough for him? Why did his father even have to leave? What was the main point of him leaving? Another tear began to flow down Adyels left cheek. Was this what the Fates chose for him? Was this his path?

Adyel was certainly a tired boy. He was stressed, for sure. He wondered if his path was chosen, either by his choices or was it chosen by the Fates? It was certainly hard for Adyel to understand, but who were the choices up to? Another tear began to drop down his cheek, this time the other one. And his eyes began to look ever more glossy.

[Zhongjie Warren] Gathering Art Supplies (Adyel)

Postby Namorin Xalvratos on December 26th, 2015, 8:56 am

The young man had come to the Zhongjie Warren's in an effort to find a gift for his little sister's birthday. He thought a nice pair of slippers would be an excellent gift for her as she like soft things and he swore was always cold. So it was that he had left early from his work at Valereiq's Gem. Charlain was relatively quiet as they looked around for the slippers. Namorin knew Charlain would never admite it but he was as fond of their little sister as he was. Namorin smiled as he heard Charlain mutter something nasty at him.

Namorin and Charlain both noticed Kavala's group enter the tent. Namorin instantly noticed the family of children. He noticed them because true families were rare in Riverfall, especially when the family had that many Akalaks. His family was one of the few he knew about. His father had traveled to Mura fell in love with his mothr, married her and they had actually raised a faimly.

Charlain on the other hand had noticed the attractive Konti mother. 'Is she Nakivak.' Charlain proded. 'Crap.' he said noticing the answer to his own question. Namorin chided his other half. Their father might have understood, but their mother would scolded them for such a thought. Not that Namorin would have even gone along with such an idea. He wantes what his parents had. He wanted a family not to just reproduce.

He moved to pull his attention away from her and her family not wanting to get into that conversation, again. Charlain thought he was quiet the ladies man, and well Namorin tended to stutter over his words around women. It was then that he realized that the youngish man was woth her, but not with her. The golden eye watched the inter action over the shoes.

'Don't you dare, We are not helping!' Charlain said his voice rising in their head. 'We have better things to do then help this cry baby. I mean our sister still needs that present. He attempted.

'We are seeing if we can help. Namorin stepped closer to where the group was and saw the tears in the young boys eyes. His intense gaze soften as compasion filled his eyes. He had seen his mother helping others in the same way. As a devoted servant of Rak'keli she helped those in need and he had watched many times and some times even helped. Namorin suspect that this youth's life was in chaos, a storm blowing everything out of control. He to hand once cried, and been answered. He manipulated a gentle breeze and sent a whisper to Adyel. "You are safe."

Namorian approached the group and gentle asked. "Can I help." He asked looking between the two his voice soft like he would use when telling his sister stories when she was little and struggling to sleep.

[Zhongjie Warren] Gathering Art Supplies (Adyel)

Kavala struggled a moment as Ia’del woke up and evidently wanted down. She slid the Konti toddler off her hip and kept her hand firmly gripped in her last free one. Ralac stepped up awkwardly and hovered around his sister. They had shared a womb together but were not twins. Both Akontak boys looked nothing like Kavala, taking after their fathers. But the little girl decidedly had the healer’s features. With Ia off her hip, Kavala stretched slightly, twisted with relief, and then sat down next to where Adyel was trying on shoes. She looked thoughtful and seemed to consider her words carefully.

“Life isn’t easy. Sometimes people die. Sometimes people get lost. And sometimes bad things happen.” She wasn’t sure what had happened to Adyel, but she knew his sadness and grief were overwhelming him. “It happens to us all. I’ve been scared, alone, and very very afraid. I’ve been hurt too, badly, by humans and wanted to die.” She was honest about her story. It was part of her past but didn’t rule her present.

Kavala was speaking in a loud enough voice for Adyel to hear and so too a stranger that now seemed to be approaching. “I was rescued by men from this city. They cleaned me up, healed me, and told me I had to serve them to pay them back. I had to have children for them. I was angry at this, felt trapped and hurt again, until I had my children and realized they were the best things that ever happened to me. I paid my debt and ended up keeping my children because their father’s died. But I have known sadness, loneliness, and grief. People died. I don’t like others to feel that way if I can help it. I can’t change what happened to you. But I can offer you some food, a place to rest, put warmer clothes on you, and give you a chance to try and feel better.” Kavala said, lowering her voice, and reaching out to stroke Adyel’s head once more. Tasival, her oldest son, moved to Adyel’s other side and smiled at him.

“The yowlwing says you’re a kitty too. I love kitties. My cousin is a kitty, a beautiful red ginger cat. What kind of kitty are you? Do you like string? I have feather toys too for Cadra to play with. We play long hours because she watches me when mom’s busy. Maybe she’ll watch you too.” Tasi suggested as Ralac nodded. “She lets us color…” The youngest boy mumbled, barely able to get the words out. The little girl, still clutching her brothers’ hand, peeked out from behind him. “I gots colors. Will share.” She said, suddenly digging around in her pocket to see if she could find one of the wax sticks she usually colored with. None where in her pocket, though a piece of well-wrapped caramel was. Ia’del wasn’t much for sweets. She usually stashed them in her pocket for later anyhow.

She offered the Kelvic the sweet. “You have.” She stated firmly with a happy smile. “Not sad now. Please.” The please seemed to be an afterthought. It was at that moment that the Akalak that was approaching seemed to pause, study the situation, and speak.

Kavala met his gaze a moment just after she noted his glance at her wrist to check her Nakivak status. It was bare of any Nakivak trappings. It hadn’t been though, not for years. She’d worn the cuff of a slave in all but name for many seasons in Riverfall. Momentary anger and a mixture of shame flooded her. Women were wombs. Beeders. They would never look at her, the Akalak, as anything but a piece of meat. Not at first. Someday she’d find an Akalak who would look at her without seeing if he could lawfully have her naked beneath him. And when that day came she’d make a friend for life. Today obviously wasn’t that day. But her anger didn’t last when the man asked if he could help. His voice was soft, gentle, and in a way it reassured Kavala as much as his look had angered her.

She let Adyel answer. Kavala was curious how the young kelvic would handle the situation. The Akalak didn’t know he was kelvic, more than likely, but then again the kelvic probably didn’t know the Akalak tended to treat Kelvics like pets with no social status and no importance. If Adyel had been female, it would have been a different story. But he was a boy and all but useless in the eyes of most Akalak. Kavala wondered if this one would feel that way or treat Adyel with true worth.

After ADyel had a chance to respond, Kavala would introduce herself. “I’m Kavala Denusk. I run the Sanctuary. We’re just here shopping and picking up supplies.” Her words implied but didn’t’ actually say that she wasn’t looking for trouble. The yowlwing overhead chuckled, gave a catlike hiss, and then licked the leading edge of its wings.

“There’s always trouble between Women and Akalaks. You should know that, Healer Lady.” The Yowelidn said, still chuckling to himself. Kavala glanced upwards and frowned. “And what do you know about it anyhow?” She asked, not unkindly. “Don’t you have mice to swoop down on and eat somewhere in this vast place?” It wasn’t a dismissal, not exactly, but it was close enough to one without being rude.

The children all started giggling. People overseeing the scene could tell they thought the cat talking was funny. Kavala just frowned, glanced one more at the Akalak and then turned back to Adyl. “Your definitely coming home with me. Proper food, sleep, and making art for the art gallery.” She added, planning the whole day. She glanced at the Akalak. If he stood there much longer, she’d be rude not to invite him home for lunch as well The Konti wasn’t sure what he’d do, but she was sure that the Akalak probably wouldn’t want to join them.

Adyel shivered from the chilled breeze. He thought he had had heard a voice from the direction of the breeze. Adyel figured that the voice had spoken to him saying something like "you agree safe." At that point Adyel, started to calm down. He now realized that he was well out of harms way. Kavala was a really nice person. Not only that, but she was willing to take care of Adyel.

Kavalas words really inspired the Kelvic. He wanted to run up to her and hug her, just like he would with his mother. His mother. Liandrin Gaelson. She was a wonderful being, kind. Loyal. Trustworthy. The only sad part about her, is that she was now deceased. The thoughts of her now gone, were small now. And it didn't hurt as much as it did just a couple of chimes a go. Adyel wondered why people just die. It wasn't fair to the rest of the family. Especially with his mother passing, that wasn't fair to Adyel. He was just a tad but over one years old in Kelvic years.

Although it might seem that he was eight or ten in human form. Adyel felt as if he dies not have the maturity level of either year. It seemed typical to the young Kelvic why he doesn't have the age maturity. Usually, eight year olds tend to be chatterboxes or really obnoxious. Adyel was different. He certainly wasn't an eight year old boy for a matter of fact. He acted older then he was supposed to be. Adyel thought that he might have been acting a bit to old for his age. For instance, he does not comprehend the money system yet. He has no clue to what he was supposed to do with all of these coins that jingled, lowly throughout his pack.

Adyel replied to Kavala, added a nice warmed and calmed tone. "Oh thank you ms.Kavala. I appreciate what you are doing for me." Adyel said with a smile. His glossiness that had shown in his eyes started to fade. A couple of Kavalas kids came to his side. And Adyel took a warm look at them. The boy didn't seem to have much of the same features as his mother, but he still had had that confidence that Kavala has. The little girl, Tasi. Adyel thought. Was a really cute being. Small, harmless. Shy. Adyel was a shy one to. She said something like do not cry. She added a please in there. But Adyel wondered if it was meant with a please or she just, might've had forgotten.

"Ok, I think I'm better now." Adyel said with a yawn. Perhaps Kavala is going to adopt him. She seemed as nice and caring as his own mother was. He appreciated that fact. Tasi seemed to have handed the young Kelvic a treat. He took it kindly. And thanked her with a smile. He understood now finally why Kavala was being so generous and kind to him. She just wanted to help out a homeless boy. He didn't know what Kavala had been through to want to help people. But Adyel isn't going to take it for granted. He'll do what he can to repay Kavala. If he needed to.

One of the boys asked him what kind of cat he was. Adyel. Adyel replied warmly. As he calmed himself down a bit. He had taken a few breaths before replying though.Well... I'm a big cat. In fact I'm a lion..." Adyel said. Hoping that he wouldn't have to explain the concept of being a lion. He wanted to be free and run wild. He wasn't much into killing things though, unless the things that wanted to harm him he would. But that was only in self defense and such.

As Adyel gathered up his thoughts and placed the candy treat in his pack, carefully he noticed an Akalak coming along down to meet the group. Adyel shifted nervously. What if this Akalak knows that he is a Kelvic, what will he do to him? Take him as some farm animal and start breeding for money? Or just try to take him and treat him like a pet with no social interaction? He came and announced that he was here to see if he could help. But Adyel didn't need help. Well, not from Akalaks. His mother did her best to keep him away from those types of people. Who knows how much a lion Kelvic is worth?

If they have had any value. They'll just probably use him for some sort of entertainment. Put him in an arena and treat him as a pawn on a chess game. A piece that isn't useful at times, but also a piece that can be just used to move around. Adyel doesn't want to go through with things like that. He didn't want to be.... Abused. That word struck him like a bolt of lightning hitting its target. He wondered what this Akalak could actually do to him if he had had ever found out that he was a Kelvic.

Adyel tried to match his gaze with the young Akalak. But he wasn't sure if he was meeting his eyes. Adyel wiped his face with his sleeves clearing away the remaining salty tears."Um... I don't think I need.. That I need any help. We were um... Just leaving. Thanks. My name is Adyel."Adyel said cautiously, yet warmly and kindly. He didn't want any trouble with this Akalak. In fact Adyel didn't want to run into trouble with any Akalaks. He hoped that the Akalak won't figure that he is a Kelvic.

Adyel wished that they would leave now. And as if on cue Kavala said. “Your definitely coming home with me. Proper food, sleep, and making art for the art gallery.” Adyel couldn't have had felt more pleased with the words that Kavala used. He nodded to the two beside him and smiled at the Akalak. Adyel said with a slight yawn, "And get a nap or two in as well."He said with a slight chuckle.

[Zhongjie Warren] Gathering Art Supplies (Adyel)

Postby Namorin Xalvratos on December 27th, 2015, 1:55 am

Namorin meet Kavala's eyes and saw the flash of anger and felt embarresed. His own expression turned sheepish and ashamed. He heard Charlain growning in his head at what he considered Namarin's failure around women. The self proclaimed ladies man felt that Namorin's embaressement about anything of a sexual nature was unmanely in the extreme, and Namorin's revolution at the Nakivak system confound his other half. To Charlain it made sense, it was an easy and effective way of contiuning a dying race. Namorin believed they were a dying race because of that very attitude. Mothers weren't wombs, children weren't just off spring. How often did the way they treated someone drive away women. Namorin had watched his parents for years. True love had brought them to each other again and again. They were more then friends, they we one.

Casting his eyes down in shame for a moment after seeing Kavala's look he returned his attention to the boy Adyel. Namorin hadn't at first realized the boy was Kelvic, but as he picked up the jist of the conversation that changed his view little on the subject. They had not grown up with Kelvic in the house, his father had frowned on his brothern who used them as mothers. In all honesty though Namorin could have said why, the conversation had never come up. Namorian realized he had no real views on them, he knew the cities rules on them, but he had seen how the others in the city had treated his mother, and she was a citzens wife. He wanted his own views on them.

Namorin smiled at boy, his smile still gental seeing that the boy was afraid of him. In that same gental voice he said, "Well it has been a pleasure meeting you Adyel. I am Namorin and Charlain Xalvratos." He gentle patted him on the back like he did with his younger brother when he had something worth being proud of. He smiled at the cluster of children "It looks like you have some good friends. He said smiling at the children. Beibpng and older brother himself he reconized the signs. He turned his attention towards Kavala as she introduced herself. "I need to apologies for a moment ago. It wasn't a mutual responces." He said as way of idicating he didn't wish any conflict. He let it go at that and contiuned hoping it was behind them. He always hated apologiesing for Charlain but he felt the need. "I have heard of the Sanctuary, and my mother has mentioned that she wished could meet its owner. I will admit to some curiosity about the place, but I haven't ever had the chance to visit or learn more."

Namorin paused as they made plans to return to the Sanctuary. He smiled kindly at Adyel as he expressed a desire to take a nap.
