50 Spring 516
Clyde had been a bit surprised when the knighthood had presented the item for his next project. A Mage-Knight was in need of a staff, or perhaps a Mage-squire who was to be a Knight, the facts given to him had been vague.
He'd been expecting a length of sturdy wood, resolute, ungiving, and finely crafted.
Instead, he'd been given little more than a twig to his eyes. A 4 inch long sprig of wood, though of some oddly springy and bendy variety he wasn't familiar with.
You could easily bend the wood at a 90 degree angle without it being affected at all, let alone breaking. Of course with it being so tiny his hands couldn't quite manage this. If anything he had to hold the ends between a finger on each hand, and flex it that way.
It had taken him a moment to understand it wasn't a joke, and that clearly it was meant as a staff for a pycon.
Once re realized it wasn't a joke, Clyde had requested a mage-squire to assist with his work, mainly that of the first step of opening the staff to channeling the djed of personal magic.
He'd made several other staffs, so in that sense he was used to it, but he'd never attempted such a tiny one before.
While he waited for the squire to arrived, Clyde set about preparing for the work to come. Along with the materials needed for a MC 2 enhancement(one for the staff, and one to increase durability), he'd also been given a length of d-wire and some mineral powder he was familiar with.
After that he checked over his Glyphs, inspecting the warding that was spread across the floor around the pedestal in the center of the room, a ever expanding and stretching creep of paint across the floor of his lab that would eventually cover its entire surface.
So far it hadn't gone that far, but was slowly growing season by season. As he had only just repaired the glyphs earlier that season there wasn't any appreciable damage, and so there was little to do there.
Letting out a sigh he headed over to the table upon which he'd set the minute staffling, with his own staff Cha in hand. With nothing else to do he extended his aura sight, willing it out through Cha, and beginning a short examination of the staff's aura.
