Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

1st of Winter, 509 BV

Having gathered his food stock for at least the next 30 or so days Aku was feeling rather happy about his current situation. Together with his horse, a fairly unremarkable thing that he considered little more than a pack mule, the faux Myrian continued slipping through the crowds of the merchant district. There was one last place the man had to visit before leaving the city, and that was the local blacksmith and weapon house. If winter was approaching and Akuaysun was headed into the desert he would not be able to forage for long. Hunting was the alternative, which meant he needed a means of striking targets from a distance, but also there were other supplies the man needed to gather.

Much thought had been put into the idea on the travels westward, and Aku had settled that he wanted a bow, a short one for mid range attacks and maneuverability. He assumed that Riverfall, being a land of famed warriors would have such things, as well as the climbing gear he needed. Being a city built on a cliff side was no easy task and it only made sense that these men would have the means to scale rock faces.

When at last he found the local, the man working the counter caught him with a suspicious glare. Aku smiled politely, or as politely as a Myrian could, in fact it likely looked more like a sinister grin to the Akalak as Aku pondered the thought while proceeding to look about. In his arms he took up an assortment of things, Aku was in luck because it seemed that this shop not only dealt in weapons but also travel equipment and base linens and cottons. This was of coarse more than alright with Aku who was happy to see his errands had been substantially reduced by the find.

When at last he made it to the counter, he laid before the clerk a plethora of items. The Akalak sifted through it, jotting down each thing on a notepad, while occasionally looking up at Aku, most likely wondering if a “filthy heathen” could afford such a selection at once, and if so, who the man had robbed to procure the coin. On the list of gathered items was a Climbers kit priced at eighty gold mizas, a woodsman’s ax for four of the same, four pints of oils at one silver miza each, and an assortment of garments. He also set with the tools a well crafted black leather Climber’s Quiver and twenty arrows alongside a polished composite recurve bow. Its wood had been shined and stained to a ebon luster, with streaks of dark chocolate showing through.

The clothes were nothing special, simple things with little to no decoration but enough to stay warm in, and protect the body from any moving parts of the armor that was most likely designed to fit over them. Aku had paid little mind to the numbers he was grabbing and was happy to see it all wrote down when the clerk offered his bill for examination. The slip read, 3x Cotton Pants – 1sm ea. 2x Wool Pants – 5sm ea. 4x Leather Pants – 8sm ea. 1x Standard Fur Cloak – 20gm ea. 1x Leather Jacket – 1gm ea. 3x Cotton Shirt – 1sm ea. 3x Cotton Tunic – 5sm ea. And 3x Cotton Sash – 2sm ea.

Aku nodded, adding the coins in his mind and laying them out, as the clerk began to wrap everything neatly and placed it into a simple bundle tied with twine. Two hundred and fifty seven gold and three silver mizas lay on the counter, pulled from Aku’s pack as part of a job he had taken back in the final fringes of summer. The job had without a doubt been worth the trouble at this point as the collection of things laid before him, and after a quick count merchant and customers parted ways. Aku to put the items into their new homes and the clerk back to his work.

The heavens tore and from the area between night and day we fell, to the waters below where we should be reborn and live anew, always separated and forever yearning.

Purpose: Weapons Purchase

Kavala had a shopping list, that much was for certain. But as much as she was determined to buy weapons, walking into the shop was still rather difficult. Blades hung on every surface and caused her skin to shiver. Memories flashed in her mind, a heavy weight on her holding her down, a blade pressed to her throat, the need to scream but no one being around to hear it that would care. There were other thoughts that flickered through her mind - heavy thoughts that made her sweat when she wasn't exerting herself. Azure eyes roamed the counters, looking, curious and frightened at the same time.

She walked towards the blades and reached out a hand to one of them. The pad of her thumb ran across its edge, flesh parting, and she hissed. It felt good, and that was what frightened her so much. Her thumb's slice closed on its own with just a little attention from her gnosis, but it took a great deal of effort to walk past the blades and into the section she was truly searching for.

Blowguns and Bolas. She found them together with the other ranged weapons and nodded at the price. 10 gm for a blowgun wasn't unreasonable. She picked up five sets of darts then added two bolas to her growing pile of gear. On top of that she added a stout lariet which she promised herself she'd learn how to use. And finally, almost on impulse, she added a light crossbow and enough bolts to practice with. Handing over 91 GM for the weapons, Kavala smiled. It was almost a relief to be leaving the shop. Happy with her purchase, she gathered up her things and headed to the library for some books.

But before she left, she paused and asked the clerk. "Is there anyone around here that can teach me to use the crossbow?" She asked carefully.

Shopping List :
10 GM - Blowgun
5 GM - pack of 100 needles (1 GM per 20 x 5 sets)
30 GM - 2 sets of 3 ball bolas (15 GM a piece)
35 GM - Light Crossbow
10 GM - 100 Crossbow Bolts (light 1 GM per 10)
1 GM - Lariet

Total 91 GM

Xandes casually walked into the store. The episode in the plains had shown him his half spears for hunting would not do for some beasts and his flametongue, while deadly, would never stop something big, armoured or just plain... angry. As he looked around for his new weapon to train with he had many considerations. Price was a big one... his meagre savings where draining fast. Hopefully he could sell something soon to cover this cost. He doubted it. And paying someone to train him, that would be expensive also.... joy. He went for the most simple long sword and scabbard. He paid the clerk before fitting it. After thanking the man he left happy with his purchase.

Scabbard, Container 6 gm
Longsword 15 gm

The Arma’Drex Smithy

Postby Charon on May 5th, 2010, 2:44 am

As the new face entered the Arma'Drex, the one who returned his greeting was a largely built man with muscles along his arms and back and legs very noticeably larger than the average Akalak. Sweat was rolling off of his head and body as he removed a thick pari of gloves made of the same material his apron was created with. He had just came from the back of the shop where evidence pointed out the furnace burned quite hot. Saika seemed to know exactly what he wanted and did not hesitate in speaking his mind. Nabros liked that in another Akalak.

With a nod, the massive blue-skinned man before him replied, "I'm the master weaponsmith here. The name is Nabros, and it is never too old to learn such an important skill." The Akalak were always pushing themselves to learn and train and better themselves. Though not every one of the race were experts in everything they did, it was not uncommon to find some men who seemed to have knowledge in hundreds of skills or trades. Others were more simple and directed all of their time into a single craft, accompanied with their weapons skills of course. "I could use another set of hands, to be honest." He gave the thought a little more consideration before adding, "Let me speak with the Elders about a wage to see what we can do. I'll still teach you even if they cannot afford to pay you, but this way I can have something concrete in mind when you come back. See me in about seven days or so and I should have a definite answer for you." Nabros smiled and nodded at the man, apparently interested in the prospect of having an apprentice on deck with him.
