Summer Calendar 516 AV

(Spring calendar here).

Alvadas is a city divided this season. The calm of Spring was just an illusion after all, as tensions arise and the spirit of the city trembles. The illusions of the human heart threaten to tear the city in two. It is only through courage and acceptance that the city and its people can recover itself. Maybe then, the troubles of recent times can be forgotten yet remembered, and the celebrated illusion can reign again. Let the Watchtowers flare and the Summer begin!

The Long Road, 1st-25th.

ImageAn influx of Ionu believers on a pilgrimage to Alvadas arrive via ship, foot, land or air... seemingly disorganised yet arriving in roughly the same time period. There are many, all from different backgrounds, and all needing somewhere to stay. There are no more rooms at the Cubacious Inn, the Wolf's Cave finds itself fully booked and the Temple of Ionu becomes a temporary dormitory for the rest. The people of Alvadas are for the most part, glad that there are more people. Business booms and the streets are almost never quiet, filled with chatter and song.

Challenges: Write a job thread with someone new to the city, whether they are a PC or an NPC.

More information :
Illusions: The illusions of the city slowly shift from ice to 'normality' with the space of the 1st-3rd with the streets once again becoming their usual throughout the city. There is an influx of particularly violent, localised hail however, that usually lasts approximately 5 ticks, leaving the unfortunate receiver with stinging skin and icy hair.

The talk on the street: There are rumors circulating about the newcomers, stories of long-lost family, or tales of glee at the confusion on some of their faces when they're confronted with the illusions.

Political climate: Calm, with heightened interest around the Bizarre and the Crooked Playhouse.

Events breakdown: 4st - 10th: Highest concentration of pilgrims arrive.
10th - 20th: Gradual trickling of pilgrims into the city.

Trouble on the Streets, 26th-35th.

ImageIonu's Stand puts on a night-time show in the Underground so fearful that several people who saw it are left in a daze for several days afterwards. Uncannily, the night after the performance, the attacks start. Suspicions immediately fly to the pilgrims, who protest. Hostilities grow, and fingers are pointed each where and everywhere. Some question the Speaker's abilities, and find themselves mocked and belittled by the Speakers' believers. Others take it upon themselves to regard everyone they don't know as suspicious.

Challenges: Find yourself in a dead end with a suspicious character who may or may not be a figment of your imagination... Or be that suspicious character!

More information :
Illusions: More streets lead to dead ends than anywhere important. If you're walking around worrying you'll invariably end up facing a wall where none was before. The hail has stopped, and there is a lack of animal-illusions in this period.

The talk on the street: People gossip and talk about their friend who was suddenly stabbed in the back, or that shopkeeper who's wares were trashed inexplicably. Pilgrims argue about unfair treatment.

Political climate: Tense, confused.

Events breakdown: ***29th: Ionu's Stand performance in Alvadas' Underground.
30th: Random attacks, mostly hit and runs of varying violence start.***

EDITED

The Cry That No-One Hears, 36th-50th.

ImageThe attacks keep happening and the Speakers allow the Sheathewhisps to patrol the streets with some kind of authority. However, it helps little as a person is fatally shot through the heart. Of course, accidents happen in this dangerous world. But the wound is discovered to be laced with poison. No accident here. After this death, the first 'sighting' of a dead person is talked about wildly. It seems that the undead horrors of Winter are returning, although none of these undead are ever found, or indeed ever seem to attack...

Challenges: Fall victim to paranoia and be 'chased' by an undead creation. Or keep a clear head and persuade someone that the undead aren't real.

More information :
Illusions: Illusions are as 'normal', although the undead could be illusions... right?

Rumors: The majority of rumors circulate in regards to the undead returning, with many claiming wild assumptions. There are some rumors about the pilgrims, mostly negative ones. Amongst newcomers and pilgrims, the rumors are about each other, no-body trusting each other.

Political climate: Turbulent, confused and questioning.

Events breakdown: 37th: Speakers let the Sheathewhisps patrol the streets officially.
40th: Man shot through heart with crossbow bolt.
41st: Found to be poisoned.
42nd: First 'undead' is spotted, and these shadowy undead figures are spotted throughout the rest of the period.

Storm of the Sea, 51st-65th.

ImageAysu the Sea is attacked, and even a woman of her calibre cannot fend off the attackers. She is found very soon afterwards and treated for her injuries, but the slight does not go unnoticed, and Alvads are worried and angry- how dare these strangers cause harm to their own? Aysu's most devoted followers outright attack the places where the vast majority of the pilgrims reside, and in the confusion an Illusionism-blessed child is killed. [Further details in modded thread to come]

Challenges: Get caught up in the skirmish in the dead of night.

More information :
Illusions: Illusions are as 'normal', the 'undead' seem to have disappeared in the fighting.

Rumors: Most rumors are repetitions of general knowledge, Asyu has been attacked... with a majority of wild claims that are mostly untrue encircling it.

Political climate: Angry, rebellious.

Events breakdown: 52nd: Asyu is attacked! She is taken care of and treated for her wounds.
53rd-64th: Violence simmers under the surface...
65th: An attack happens on a camp of pilgrims, they respond to the fight. The skirmish is angry and almost un-Alvadas like. A child is killed and this stops the fight.

Sinuous Silence and Speech, 66th-85th.

ImageThe commotion dies down, as the Speakers punish a few people brutally. [Details to follow] The child's death is mourned. Whispers and mutterings weave sinuously through the streets. The leader of the Sheathewhisps goes missing. Some pilgrims are angry at their treatment, and stage protest performances, as if to demonstrate that they belong here, too. To confuse the matter, a woman thinks she has seen Ionu itself at one of these performances.

Challenges: Visit a protest performance with a friend, acquaintance or enemy, and overhear something of your choice. Or visit a public mockery by any one of the Speakers, apart from Aysu the Sea, and overhear something of your choice.

More information :
Illusions: Illusions are as 'normal'.

Rumors: Most rumors are about the pilgrim's intentions. Many rumors circulate about the Speakers, but some people are fed up of rumors and want evidence.

Political climate: Angry, confused, at odds.

Events breakdown: 66th - 68th: The Commotion dies down and anything damaged is repaired, and people nurse their bitterness and guilt.
69th: The Speakers publicly mock, belittle and abuse the perpetrators of the violence. [Details to follow]
69th: The girl has no family, but her death is mourned by Alvads and pilgrims alike. [Details to follow]
75th: The leader of the Sheathewhisps goes missing.
79th: Protest performances happen throughout the day.

Treading on Toes, 86th-91st

ImageThe leader of the Sheathewhisps returns, and she puts on a show, revealing she is a new Speaker. [Details to follow] The tensions simmer beneath the surface but don't overflow. A group of three perpetrators are caught and sentenced by the Speakers. Pilgrims start to leave the city, leaving it feeling bare. Morale in the city is low, after Winter's physical attacks and Summer's emotional upheaval, Alvadas is a city sorely feeling its blows, and lacking in its usual enjoyment. Summer switches to Autumn without much fanfare.

Challenges: Attend the new Speaker's show.

More information :
Illusions: Most roofs become flat, and a hive of illusionary bees fly through the streets, day and night. The bees seem peaceful, somehow.

Rumors: Rumors about the new Speaker, and who she really is.

Political climate: Fragile.

Events breakdown: 86th: The new Speaker's show- the event is full of a slightly more aggressive forms of entertainment- sword dances, fighting matches... and yet art, mystery and the sublimely strange still pervades. [Details to follow]
88th: More perpetrators are caught and sentenced.
89th - 91st: The pilgrims gradually trickle out of the city.

Alvadas' Calendar and FAQ for Summer 516 AV

Postby Kaleidoscope on June 1st, 2016, 10:17 am

The Calendar for The Mischief
Summer 516 AV

8th: Svefra members on board are overjoyed when the ship is followed by a pod of dolphins the entire day. A small barrel of ale is cracked open and the crew has a party.

23rd - 35th Summer: The Mischief docks in Lhavit for fun and celebrations, with illusions of shimmering silver transforming the ship by night. Unusually, an illusionary goat is seen perched from the top of the crow's nest- the crew nickname it 'Betsy' and she accompanies them for a few days out of the port.

41st: After many members of the crew have started getting sunburnt, one of the performers on board develops a suncream that blocks at least some of Syna's rays. She charges the small sum of 1 CM for a small tub. Downsides are that it smells of old fish...

59th: A collaboration of musicians and dancers creates the "Dance of Mischief", an almost impossible dance to achieve, due to its speed and the dexterity needed. (The tune is something akin to our real life 'Flight of the Bumblebees').

65th: A sudden sickness seizes the performers, and a woman dies before anyone realises what happened. She is given a sea burial, and the mood is mournful for about five days. [Moderated thread, please PM]

75th - 85th: The Mischief docks at the Northern Docks. Upon leaving, a ghost joins the performers, called Abby. Some people are scared of her, but she soon becomes a firm favourite of the performers.

90th: The ship seems to disappear! This latest illusion both terrifies and bewilders many, and causes many injuries due to bumping into things. The ship stops for a day, as it is impossible to see the sails. The crew worries that they are falling behind.

Alvadas' Calendar and FAQ for Summer 516 AV

Frequently Asked Questions, and Perhaps Not So Frequently Asked

Image

Are you confused? Is there something that doesn't match up? Or perhaps there's something which has been bothering you? I'm here to work through these questions with you, right here in this thread! Feel free to post the question below, or send me a PM. I will update this thread with the answers, so that we can all better keep up with the various happenings in this city.

Questions and Answers...

Q: I'm arriving in Alvadas this season. Will I have anywhere to stay in the city?
A: Yes! If you're quick (arriving before 4th) there are spaces in the Cubacious Inn or The Wolf's Cave if you're that way inclined. Any time after this, it will be difficult to find a room at these places, and you are best advised to go to the Temple of Ionu. Lodging here will be on the floor, besides others, so not very comfy or indeed private. But on the other hand, it is free (for this season only)! The Temple of Ionu is sometimes difficult to find, so be aware of this please. You do not need to speak to anyone at the Temple, as it will already have at least some people already bedding down there. Think of it as like a semi-massive sleepover in a Temple.
People arriving from the Patchwork Port also have these same options. There are no places to stay in the Patchwork Port unless you have board on a boat (e.g., the Tipsy Wench).

Q: Would a marked of Ionu be able to confirm/deny the rumor that Ionu is at the protest performances?
A: Yes, although they would not be able to pinpoint Ionu in the crowd. They would get a general sense that Ionu is nearby.

Q: Will the “random encounter” moderator interventions be implemented this season?
A: Yes, if people are still willing! I'm still trying to figure out which threads to jump into or not, but I'm going to be jumping when I see fit, or you can ask me to jump into a thread if you wish.

Q: When exactly is the Ionu’s stand performance? The calendar says the 13th, but the trouble on the streets period is 26th-35th?
A: I made a mistake here! I edited the dates, but obviously didn't check them properly.

29th: Ionu's Stand performance
30th: Random attacks start

Q: How many followers does the Sea have, roughly? And how many of them are attacking the pilgrims?
A: This is a difficult question. The Sea's followers are a distinct portion of the population of Alvadas, possibly about 2700 people. Almost all of these will not attack pilgrims. About half will feel angry that the Sea is injured, but won't take it out on the pilgrims. Half of that half (675 people) will verbally attack pilgrims on occasion. And about 70 or less people will actually physically harm people. That might not seem like much, but as it's usually the job of the Speakers to dispense justice, then these people are the minority, possibly even frowned upon by some.

Q: Will there be details regarding the woman who thought she’d seen Ionu?
A: No, put simply! She's just another who fades into the crowd, causing rumours.

Q: Do the illusory bees have an illusory hive, or is it just a roving gang of bees?
A: There might be a hive, if one searches for it! (If you do, then feel free to describe it as you will, just not too over the top. :P )

Q: What exactly goes down during the protest performances? Are the performances chaotic, or are they just a few pilgrims picketing?
A: These occur across the city. Of course, they're not very organised! There's plenty of disruption, as they weren't planned by the pilgrims. A lot of them are simply a congregation of street performers, with a scattering of people protesting. Most of the protesting however isn't done with shouts but with actions. However, that of course doesn't rule out shouting. I mostly want to leave it free and open to interpretation, but if you want more information on that then just PM me.

Thanks to Aislyn, Phobius and Reysin for questions 2-8!
