A Curfew for two [Garland]

Zifor couldn't stand the entrapment of the grandmaster's curfew he had planned to make the most of the freedom he had before being cooped up, A Curfew what was he a child to be kept on a leash, Zifor Scoffed “I May be Young but i can protect myself..” at least that's what he thought maybe it wasn't so true, it had already gotten dark most places had taken their lights out for the day and very few people were around Syliras was quieter at night than ever thanks to the new curfew, it was truly a sight to wonder around free of a burden he had an air around him that made most people uncomfortable even when he was walking as a man rather than taking to the sky as an owl. Zifor took his hand and brushed his hair back with his fingers as if he was plucking at a loose feather. Something was strange in the city but he would be damned if that stopped him from enjoying his time alone at night, Being nocturnal Zifor couldn't stand being up at ay all the time although he enjoyed the benefit of coins when dealing with the people of syliras so he had adapted rather than eating rats off the street he could enjoy fresh game every now and then.”Well, one must adapt to thrive, at least that's the way i see it”

Zifor halted as he heard a noise from down the road, turning his head to scan the area revealed two forms a young man and a woman and he heard them speaking “....Head home girl the curfew is in effect you will need to get used to the times and stop wondering at night” Zifor was approaching them as silently as he could trying to muffle his footsteps the man was eyeing up the young girl and she appeared to be frightened, she spoke up to the boy “Of Course Squire I'll head home right away”. The man perhaps a squire nodded at her “Or Perhaps I could take you home with me instead” Zifor scowled at the Supposed Squire, was he trying to trick this girl into mating with him ? He approached the two and smiled at the squire with a Wise grin. “What i know is when a male is attempting to find a mate he usually attempts to impress the female or at least make himself look presentable to her first and you don’t seem to fit into either of those” Zifor felt the acid in the man’s stare.perhaps he pushed the squire to far but they usually don't start violence unless needed, at least in his experience. The Woman giggled and left as the squire stared at Zifor open mouthed as he had practically just been slapped across the face with a massive insult as well as completely baffled by the young man who had decided to not wear his shirt on his evening walk. “Excuse me sir” He fumed through his Clenched teeth. “But there is a curfew in place and Why indeed are you wondering around at night past curfew i am not allowed to bring you in but i may make an exception” He smirked and looked Zifor up and down not really examining him at all “You seem oddly suspicious wondering around and harassing a squire while he is patrolling and doing his job” Zifor blinked, Was this human accusing him of a crime worse case he could run away and fly away but he had done nothing wrong short of insulting the man and he was only trying to help the female get away he stared at the man critically. “I was actually just leaving no need to, Bring me in or whatever you wish to do.”

Garland had been in Syliras for a few days now since his return from the trading trip with Endrykas. The fog was a growing concern to the knights and for some reason put a curfew in.

The streets had a thin fog currently, but it will most certainly grow thicker as time goes on. Garland didn't really care about the curfew or the people he'd find out, they're stubborn but he didn't believe they were stupid enough to actually stay out.

What were they planning to do in the middle of the night where everyone else was going home or at home? Stopping everyone he sees just to say that there's a curfew in effect would just wast time and energy.

Besides most everyone is already running home the streets were nearly deserted save for the occasional merchant with a large cart of goods, it must have been hard to wake up at the crack of dawn to sell their wares, dragging their merchandise from their homes to their stalls.

Garland held up his lantern as he walked down the street, there was suppose to be another squire patrolling here. He heard talking in the dark silence of the night and Garland was suspicious and curious.

He walked followed the talking, and hooded his lantern to block the light. As he saw the commotion, it seemed the squire that was suppose to patrol the street had gone off and followed a woman.

And not he was threatening a person for stopping him. Well this won't do at all. Garland walked out and unhooded his lantern. "Ah! There you are! I was looking all over for you! I've told you before the inns are this way. Come on, I saw you take a wrong turn and decided to follow you."

Garland looked over to the squire. "Ah sorry to have bothered you. I'll take care of this." And Garland gently took the man's hand and started walking away.

As soon as he was out of sight and ear shot, he let go."Dick... Anyway, not all squires and knights are nice. Some take their authority a bit too far. Anyway. I'm Garland, it's not safe in the streets, you better get home. Do you want me to escort you so no other squire would come after you?"

Zifor was not very surprised to have another squire there, really the damn bastards were everywhere practically screaming how much better they were than everyone else.

Understanding exactly What the man had intended him to do he held close to the squire as he led him away, Thinking to himself *No Need to bother the other squire anymore not worth the trouble" As he examined the boy, or perhaps man he wondered why he chose to step in on the encounter perhaps he disliked the other squire or maybe he just didn't like the way he flaunted his title around.

The older boy was called Garland, an average name as human names came, Zifor nodded his head and gave a smile to the squire and spoke to him softly “Yes that would be nice”. He gave a Casual smirk at this squire he seemed different compared to the others. “Most Squires I have seen personally tend to think themselves above the common Citizen”.

“Garland, If I may ask what drew you into the order anyway” He looked the man up and down. “You seem”He paused Looking for the correct words, “To Be a more Capable warrior than most I have seen, Are you nearing the end of your training”?

Truth be told in his short life he had never bothered to focus much on the city, or its people until recently he had a burning desire to explore more about the humans and their culture as well as to just generally explore.”I honestly have never really talked to a knight or even come to think about it met more than a few and they always seem so, Preoccupied to speak to them about the order”

The Streets of his home seemed much more Comfortable when walking with another Zifor was less alert than he normally was at night. The Experience was new to him as the only Friend he had was his dog and she was usually asleep when he wandered at night. “Either Way Garland its Very nice to meet you.” He Hoped he had not been barraging the man with many questions he couldn't handle or stared at him too long humans seemed to be Une if one looks at them too long.

Perhaps it was a silly to enjoy a walk with a squire but maybe this is the reason he really felt he needed to leave home tonight.

Garland sighed and smiled at the man. "Squires and knights are suppose to protect, and I suppose they do that, but they don't have to act like they own the place."

Garland paused, analyzing what he had just said. "Well... technically they do own the city but... They don't have to act like a petching asshole." Garland thought about the few good ones he'd met, and a then the ones with their nose held up so high he wondered how they even became knights with how arrogant they are.

"Where are you staying by the way?" Garland asked, he knew the city streets well enough, but without a destination he had no idea where to go.

It was a common question he had heard from curious teens looking to either have a reason to join or add another reason to avoid the knights entirely. "I didn't really have a reason, was sitting on the fence for a good while, either sticking it out as a mercenary and head over to Zeltiva or Sunberth, or become a squire."

The two of them walked through the dark and foggy knight, the way lit up by the street lights the other squires have lit prior nightfall. "I guess the thing that tipped me over to become a squire was another squire. Ball was the name, you should see him fight, he could break bones without breaking a sweat and that was before he learned how to put magic in his fists."

"Do you live here or are you a traveler? By the way, you haven't given your name yet. If you don't mind me asking."

A Curfew for two [Garland]

Postby Zifor on December 4th, 2016, 8:05 am

Zifor laughed at the Squires comment and smirked at him. "Most knights here seem to think that because they have money and possessions that it makes them better than common people but what one owns is not a measure of them just, well what they own nothing more"

Zifor looked at the squire in his armor he appeared to be thinking of something of his past and the man asked him a question. "Ah, I have a room in the Travelers Row" he wondered if the squire knew where exactly they were going too but then shook his head at his thinking, the squire probably knew this city like the back of his hand since he seemed to look like a regular resident and for a human he had been here quite a number of more seasons Then Zifor had even been alive.

The Night's chill had really reached Zifor as he had hardly expected to get this sidetracked on his walk but it was nice to have someone to talk with even if it was a squire, at least Garland Seemed like a nice person too him so far. Zifor Admired the man's story he didn't join out of some misguided sense of justice or desire to be better than anyone but simply out of necessity and his desire to improve as a fighter.

Zifor listened closely as he described the Squire Ball, An odd name for a warrior but someone who could use magic in there fists who could break bones easily before that is someone he didn't really want to fight or get on the side on, he couldn't help but stare down and stroke his own hands thinking what a magical punch would be able to do to someone, perhaps a flaming punch or encasing his fists in stone, He had heard rumors of people summoning flames from thin air but he knew almost nothing of the theory let alone the magic itself."So What he created a flaming punch or something, I Couldn't imagine such raw power" Zifor Cleared his throat at the mention that he hadn't even spoken his own name to the man his Cheeks flared and he nodded. "Yes, of Course, Sorry I have lived in Syliras my whole life but I still don't particularly consider this my home, My name is Zifor or some call me Zi for short, use whichever I don't particularly care"

"Flaming Punch... That's a good idea." No it wasn't. "No, Ball just put more power in his punches, I swear given enough time, he'd have punched a hole right through the wall of Syliras."

The dark night and thick fog would feel deafening and would usually make anyone feel like shutting up, but for some reason Garland was enjoying the talk with Zifor. The fog had no sway in him unlike it had on the entire city.

"Traveler's Row is near the gate." Garland pointed up towards the gates. There was a faint glimmer of light in the all encompassing fog. "Braziers on the battlements shine bright no matter what, I can barely see it, but they're there."

The duo walked down the streets. Garland decided to tell a story about Ball, since in truth he admired the little blob of clay. "Ball... You can't really categorize him. Last winter, you wouldn't think it since he usually thinks with his fists rather than his head, but he organized a huge hunt against a pack of Yukmen, you wouldn't think he could do that when you see him, but he got a huge number of squires to go out and hunt. Of course he got in trouble with that knights, but no one else was going to do it and he took initiative. He's a good leader, if the position was forced onto him, but I think he'd prefer to be on the field rather than barking out orders."

Garland had almost forgotten the most important bit about Ball. "You probably wouldn't notice him if he was on patrol, unless you were really close to him. He's a Pycon, three inches tall and with enough power to knock down a large oak I reckon. Have you ever seen a Pycon before?"

Garland tried to think about the best way to describe a Pycon but he couldn't find the right words. "They're... There really isn't... Umm... They're clay, and I'm not talking metaphorically, they are made of clay, and like clay they be just about anything. There's this Pycon I met, a squirrel with antlers growing out, one's like a little human with winged ears, heck there's one in the Fighter's Pits that is literally a fist with an eye."

Garland laughed, thinking about that one. Garland forgot her name, it was Fist-something or other. "I think Ball has a crush on that one, but I can't rightly be sure. Anyway, what do you do for fun? Besides getting in trouble with knights that is."

Zifor was taken aback completely "That is Scarily powerful ive never heard of this magic do you know the name ?" Zifor was in awe just amplifying the strength of a punch with no outside influence other than one’s magical might it could be interesting to learn of this kind of magic, even if he couldnt master it himself.

Yes i can usualy guide my way through the streets but honestly this fog has been playing with my eyes as of late” Zifor spoke sincerly to the squire truth be told he had never used the fires to guide his way anywhere at night due to his vision but the fog had really been getting under his skin this season.

“Yukmen ?, Why would he get in trouble for slaying them when it is the knights and squires jobs to take care of such things” Zifor was confused by the knights punishing a good deed it seemed completely pointless.

“A Pycon is a man...that is made out of living clay?” ZIfor Cocked his head in complete confusion it just seemed so...different than what he was used too “ That makes what you say about him even more impressive, regardless he must be very strong as well as be a good leader and command respect even being that small” Zifor could apreciate a clay man that could make a mockery of most humans, Imagining seeing Ball Break down the walls around the city would be very amusing, it would be almost impossible to track. Although the fact that their race could be literaly anything disturbed him slightly he imagined being able to change one’s size and shape could be very benificial.

Zifor felt a smirk creep on his face “well between my nightime job of terrorizing squires i spend most of my time tracking and capturing the stray animals in Syliras” Zifor scowled thoughtfully for a second and added. “I also spend time searching for something i am missing” Zifor looked at Garland and nodded. “Thats the phrasing for i believe the phrase is Discovering Myself, anyway i dont really fit in here theres something better out there for me i just have to find it you know what i mean ?”

Zifor yawned and scratched his chin. “ I am also wondering what exactly it is im looking for but one question at a time is the way i see it, Im not Prepared to leave syliras anyhow ive hardly caused enough trouble for the squires yet” the grin returned to zifor’s face as he laughed softly.
“Everyone in the knightood seems so rigid but its my though that everyone needs a good joke know and than, Wouldnt you agree”

The Endless stream of chatter was to calm Zifor himself down there was an unease in the air and it fealt like something could be aproaching them, when he got nervous he talked much more than one should because it was about his only way of defending himself from confrontation unless he shifted which he would only do in front of a stranger if he needed to.

Garland smiled and thought about the name of the magic. "Flux I think it was called." Despite the drab atmosphere and suffocating mist and fog, Garland enjoyed the talk, he enjoyed the talk.

Some would say he was absent-minded and not fit to be a guard, but Garland had always have his ear out, his ear would twitch at the slightest noise, but he would not react to it until he knew it was a danger.

The fact that there was no sound except their voices made him on edge. "You say you're a hunter then? You're looking for something? Don't worry, I'll help you look for it if you need me to."

"You seem like a free-spirit, my friend. Syliras is safe compared to the rest of the world I think. Think about it, large walls, disciplined and strong guardsmen, constant patrols, the only problem is the lack of freedom."

Garland thought about what Zifor said, 'causing trouble for the squires'. "You know... If you joined the squires, you get free food, housing, and plenty of opportunity to piss off the other squires, I do that all the time, pretty sure there's a 'I hate Garland club' somewhere."

After a little while, they nearly made it to Traveler's Row, Garland had a few friends living here, and always thought that this was a nice place to live, but as a squire, he felt it was a structural weakness to the wall, sure the walls were thickened in the Row, but given enough time, a bookcase and a spoon, one could make a tunnel there.

"Nice meeting you, Zifor. I'm guessing you don't sleep early and the curfew is being a huge pain in the neck." Garland said. "Honestly right now, I would be in the Rearing Stallion getting a drink, but the entire place feels like a damn ghost town, since the curfew, the only people there are squires or knights and they do not make for fun conversations. The White Swan is nice but the crowd just felt more... sophisticated, is that the word I'm looking for? Whatever, they're not my crowd is what I'm saying."

"Have you ever been to the Swan, Zi? Only there once, during a trip from the orphanage on the behest of Knight Brock. Good man, that Brock, always had a stick up his arse though."

Zifor was happy garland knew the name it was less digging he himself would have to do later. Zi grinned being called a hunter pleased him to a degree. “I am a hunter of sorts I don't hunt to kill i capture stray animals teach them how to fit in with human’s or if they refuse I try and at least make it so they don't become too dangerous for the knights to have to step in and cull them” He scowled the way people treat animals in Syliras had him concerned “I Aim to rid SYliras of stray untrained animals” Zifor gave a grin to garland. “By the way what I'm looking for is more than an object I doubt you could help me find it mister squire’ He laughed dismissively and nodded.

“Freedom…...not what Syliras has, at least there is no real slave trade in Syliras” iZifor agreed with what garland said but anarchy is not what the answer is but when you're stuck between one or the other anarchy seemed to be a better place.

Joining the squires the idea crossed his mind before to see what exactly the benefits would be but he found out he would have to be vouched for by a knight. “I Doubt I could get a knight to take me on as a squire I wouldn't be much use to the squires, I can't swing a giant sword or wear heavy plate armor I've got no muscle’ Zifor added with a laugh. “Unless I can fly to the top by charming my way there I highly doubt I could become a knight maybe a glorifi-” Zifor stumbled over his word as he tripped over his own boot and flipped face first onto the ground but as he fell he rolled to the side instinctively and instead his head made a surprisingly loud thud against the stone of a nearby building . “Well that wasn't to pleasant hah” The fall hadn't hurt relative to the amount of shame he felt tripping over himself in front of another person the embarrassment showed on his face as it turned a shade of red, truth be told Zifor was not used to such a lengthy conversation and had been letting his gaze analyze the man he was talking to more than where his feet were moving.”I'm Fine Garland, don't worry about it I'm not so helpless I'm just saying I doubt I could really be as strong as a guy like you, Besides I'm more of a charmer don't you see my pretty face, I wouldn't want to bruise it” Zifor gave garland a sickeningly sweet smile and choked on a laugh while his face turned to a grin."Not that I’m afraid to if my backs against the wall I would fight with all my power” The young man decided he didn't want to leave the conversation on such a serious note so he asked the squire another question

“So why do you stay in syliras than if its to restrictive for your life or is it just enough to when it comes down to it you value the safety of the city more than your spirit is there something special here for you?” Zifor felt as if the only reason to nest here would be if one had a child or a mate He was not attached to such burdens he didn't carry so if it came to it he could flee syliras if he needed to. “I Only have one attachment here and she could take care of herself if I needed to leave without her”. Zi often wondered what fortune would do if he left he would probably sell her to a knight or a friend in the city if he could do that perhaps fashion some way to carry her where he flew to or hire a caravan to be able to travel with her.

“Not Often do I sleep this early no you could say I favor the night over the day, not for any real reason mind you I just find myself drowsy during the day” Zifor stretched his arms behind his back.” I haven't been to either place actually, to be honest, I've never had any alcohol but I wouldn't mind coming if you wanted to escort me oh brave strong squire” Zifor Rolled his eyes at garland and cleared his throat thinking to himself, It Really would be nice to go somewhere with garland but he couldn't help but poke fun.
