Sira listened patiently as Azira confessed her secret, the kelvics curiosity piqued. A curse? How did she get cursed? Couldn't control it? So many questions, but luckily Azira was answering the most important one. Fire reimancy.

Sira stared at Azira for a few moments, turning the thought over in her mind. She had no idea what drawing res meant, but she had been around reimancers before. A reimancer saved her life once, so she knew the power could be very useful. Of course, that same reimancer was the one that inadvertently trapped everyone inside the Inclement Weather as well, and almost killed himself in the process. Reimancy was dangerous. But they needed to get free, and that meant taking a risk. Any danger they put themselves in while escaping would be better than the alternative.

Maybe you can try to burn the one with my sword. If we can get our hands on that we can cut ourselves free and get away.

Sira glanced down at her hands, which were bound in front of her, and a small grin crept across her lips for just a moment. Even with her hands tied, she could still fight. They should have tied them behind her back. It would work... but could Azira do it?

Wait until we start moving again. I'll act like I'm having trouble getting up because of leg, and maybe he will come over. They all have weapons, we just need to get our hands one something sharp. If we can catch them off guard with the fire I can try for one of the weapons.

If Azira had no other suggestions Sira would settle in to wait. The Symenestra kept watch over them, but thankfully they could not hear the conversation taking place over their link.

As they waited, Sira pondered that link. She had not broken it since they started walking. It was the longest she'd ever touched someone's mind other than Aidara's. Azira did not seem to mind, or if she did, she hadn't complained. It wasn't a full bond, but it was getting closer. Sira sunk deeper into that connection, and as she did her confidence rose. She allowed that confidence to trickle over to Azira, hoping it would give her some as well.

We will survive this. We will escape.

When dusk came, so to came the time for them to move. Sira did not speak across the link when she remained motionless after the Symenestra commanded them to move. She let her readiness to act flow across to Azira, and felt for what Azira would do. When Azira acted, Sira would be ready.

"Get up!"

"I can't.. my leg. I can't move it. I think it's infected."

The Symenestra glared at her and stepped closer to the pair, a hand resting on his weapon. "I said get up!"

"I can't!

She sensed the curiosity as she provided her vague answers but when she did get to the point, the connection quietened. It was still there, Azira could sense it but emotions weren't seeping through anymore. The ending of emotion and the lack of dialogue worried her. It was like the other was on her guard. Perhaps she'd even offended her by failing to admit such a secret at the last moment. Her imagination raced with everything that could go wrong from this point and that was without the Symenestra being factored into the equation. Once more she attacked the cut on her lip and tasted blood anew. The anticipation of the Kelvic's reaction made the ticks stretch so that the silence between them seemed too prolonged, surely a sign of the other's displeasure. The response that came at last was genuine, a thoughtfulness ghosting its edges so she realised tat he had overreacted and blown things out of proportion, seen ill omens where there were none. Still doubt reared its head within her.

I might be able to but if I do, I might not need to slice my ropes. They might go in the fire, she explained uncomfortably. And maybe my hands with it, she added to herself silently.

Sira's plan had the makings of success though, she couldn't deny that. Regardless of what sort of disaster she might cause to herself, if she could attack the Symenestra then her companion would have the chance to attack and defend them, even if Azira made herself vulnerable. It could go horribly wrong though. What if Sira couldn't get a weapon or the remaining widows reacted quickly and overwhelmed her? The huntress couldn't guarantee the possibility of backup. If she did this then there was a chance that the Endal would be left alone in the chaos that followed.

The duo bided their time, waiting for a good opportunity to present itself. Given that the other was providing the distraction, the Avora would take her cue from her. When the time came, she would have to be ready. She sought the power within her, the magic that seemed to inhabit her whole body. She closed her eyes, blocking out external stimuli so she could more easily concentrate on what was going on inside her. She tried to visualise it. In her mind, it was in her blood but that wasn't strictly true; it was her entire being, everything contained within the boundaries of her skin that she could stretch beyond that barrier if she really wished it. Still it seemed to concentrate on her core, congregating where most of the activity of her body went on. It hummed through her racing heart, rippled in the tissues of her lungs and spread fingers into her abdomen and up towards her throat. The chance could come soon and so she focused on the hive of djed and willed it to cluster above her heart. Slowly, it was willed up to her left shoulder, her control of it making its movements appear more sluggish than when it was left to its own devices as if she had stolen its natural vitality and speed. From her shoulder, she started to push it down her arm, feeling it tingle like pins and needles along the muscles and sinews. She felt it tracing the line of her bone down to the elbow and found herself shudder involuntarily.

Once it was in motion, she found it difficult to stop it. The magic seeming to gain momentum. It was easier, not to mention more pleasant, to allow it to continue on the path that it was already taking. It crept down her forearm as felt readiness pass along the connection she shared with Sira. She drew courage from it and pulled her power more eagerly to her palm. It obeyed a little faster now but still achingly slow as it coalesced in her left hand. As she heard the Symenestra bark an order, she opened her eyes, trying to hold onto the awareness that she had. She imagined the res oozing from her palm and slowly it started to leak out. Small droplets, like she was sweating, beaded on the surface of her left hand. She did her best to squeeze her other hand over it to hide the ethereal fluid that was gathering slowly in her grasp. The shimmering silver was sure to be noticed soon, even if they were momentarily distracted by the other redhead. It had to be done faster. She urged the fluid to pass to the other palm where flesh met flesh so that both right and left would have a coating.

If she waited for more of the res to collect, it would be too late and instead she moved her hands slowly and discreetly, trying to imagine the magic curving into a small globe. She snuck a glance at her hands as she pulled them as wide apart as she could. The wrists had perhaps a centimetre between them but her hands had a greater field of movement. She stretched them out into a V-shape so she could see the rough sphere she'd formed, about two inches in diameter. The glow was noticeable.

"What's that? What is in your hand?" a Symenestra ahead of Sira called as he looked back to see what was happening with the prisoners. His gaze had settled on the glow of magic in Azira's hold and the panic was clear in his voice, even as she shot urgency and a message of Now! to the Kelvic. She thrust her hands forward, a flicking motion as if she was throwing a ball and sending it on its way. As it raced beside her fingers, she told it to burn and felt a wild euphoria as it raced to obey, the flames curling in and around it from nowhere as it shot in the general direction of the Symenestra that was menacing the other captive. The joy that thrilled through her mixed with adrenaline and the huntress pulled more insistently on the magic that waited below the surface, calling it forward to be res, to be shaped to her will and to give her more of that insane, giddy happiness.

The sensations coming across their link as Azira prepared were.. unique, to say the least. Distracting, even. Her own gnosis, and Addy's gnosis, had never felt anything at all like what she was feeling from Azira, and Sira was only receiving an echo of that. It was strange, and enticing.

The Symenestra noticed, and despite having prepared herself, Sira almost missed her cue. The fireball struck home, and Sira lunged forward. Her hands clasped around the familiar hilt of a sword, her sword, and yanked it free. She impaled it in the symenestra's back, not knowing whether or not he was already dead from the flames, and yanked it back out. The joy flowing from Azira, combined with her own from their plan having worked, overtook Sira for a moment. She opened the bond, fully, and for a moment became one with Azira. Victory and the addicting giddiness of reimancy passed back and forth between the both of them, and Sira smiled down at her Endal, who was looking a bit crazed, but she was just as euphoric.

Pain. Pain! Sira nearly dropped her sword as she stumbled from an impact from behind, almost falling on top of Azira. Her eyes widened as she noticed the arrow sticking out of her upper left arm, and for a moment she was too shocked to understand. Realization dawned on her and she spun around, just barely getting her sword up in time to knock a second arrow away. Pain wrenched through her left arm, which was still bound to her right, but she could still fight.

One Symenestra was drawing a third arrow from his quiver, the bow a very familiar Inartan design. Azira's bow, Sira realized. Two more of the widows were approaching, armed with daggers, and were moving to flank them from either side. Not good.

"Azira! Get the archer, I'll hold these two off.

Sira lunged right, causing her assailant to jump back, but it was just a feint. She immediately turned left to slice at the Symenestra moving in from that direction. The archer was holding his shot, perhaps worried he might hit his friends, but it was only a matter of time.

"Azira, get that bow! I need you!

She slashed again to the left and then spun just in time to deflect, just barely, a stab from the one to the right. Every movement jostled the arrow in her left arm, sending shockwaves of pain through her body. The pain in her leg was forgotten for the moment. She didn't know how much longer she could keep up the fight.

She'd been worried about missing her mark but thankfully the fire hit where it was meant to go. The magical fire struck the frail frame and exploded against it. The flames spread rapidly, the Symenestra dropping to the ground with a blood curdling shriek. Sira was quickly upon him, catching up the fallen talon sword and driving it through the prone man's back. If the flames hadn't killed him then the sword had certainly down the trick. The attack set the other widows into a panic, a confusion arising as they tried to determine who was the greater threat between their two would-be captives, the fire-thrower or the sword-wielder. They tried to put some distance between themselves and the pair of Inarta to protect their fragile bones. They had dropped the commandeered gear they'd been carrying and were now circling nervously with slingshots and ropes. Ready to take them without harm if they could.

Emotion bounced back and forth along the connection between herself and Sira, an openness between them that was broader and more intense than what they'd hitherto shared. There was some confusion about which emotions were her own as her companion seemed to be elated as well. She was fairly sure that a lot of the positive emotion was her own, as the vast majority of it was coming from the magic she was using. The res flowed from her hands in increasing amounts, making her pleasure levels rise. There was a buzzing in her brain, going from background noise to a more noticeable sound before changing to a low whispering. Encouragement seemed to whisper straight into her mind, whirling around her head and urging her to expend more djed. There was the promise of more elation, greater euphoria and the huntress was happy to oblige her inner demons. She flicked drops of magical fluid in the general direction of the other Symenestra, willing it to blaze with flame. It shot a shower of flaming sparks their way like horizontal rain, sending them running out of the way. Like embers blown from a fire, some of her sparks found strands of Symenestra hair, which they beat out, screaming.

It was only then that drew daggers, clearly more interested in subduing them as soon as possible, regardless of how much they might get hurt in the process. Two of them stalked forward while Sira screamed at her about an archer. The redhead gazed in bewilderment at the Kelvic and realised how much seemed to have happened since she'd last glanced her way. She had an arrow shaft sticking out of her arm and there was an archer who was taking aim at her once more. She'd only looked away for a few ticks so how could it have happened so fast? It was like she'd lost time but that couldn't be so!

Turning her attention to the archer in question, she pooled res and got ready to fling it, a task made difficult because her hands were still bound. Willing it to flame as she swung her arms upwards as if tossing a ball, she was forced to dodge with a scream as an arrow came her way. The small fireball's path became skewed, the arrow passed through it aflame and her missile went searing by her target's head. Shock flowed through her as she gazed at the bow in the hand of the archer and was quickly followed by rage. She drew more res, which only formed a thin coating on her palm and ran straight at the man.

"That's my bow, YOU BASTARD!" she screamed hysterically, trying to get the res to detach so she could send it at his face, claw his eyes out. He hurried to nock another arrow from the quiver but Azira was upon him in seconds, her voices screaming at her to pull out everything she had to kill him with. Her rage was high enough to do it but she was upon him before she got the chance, instead smacking him to the ground and toppling onto him. Her bound hands whacked him in the face, the res urged to leak out over his face and as it oozed its way over his eye, she began to make it burn, shaking the res loose of her own hand as she set the rest of it aflame. His screams reverberated around her and he writhed beneath her. Azira gazed on the sight with pleasure, holding the bindings about her wrist over his melting face. Once it started to singe, she strained against it, pulling until it finally snapped then swaying slightly, she got to her feet with her shortbow in hand.

Sira was in trouble and she knew it. With her hands still bound, every swing of the sword sent jabs of pain up her left arm and throughout her body, more than once nearly causing her to lose her grip on the weapon. She was fighting purely on the defensive, and the Symenestra knew it. They were becoming more and more aggressive with their attack, and more than once Sira was cut, only barely avoiding far more serious wounds. She could not beat them. The pain was causing her to lose focus. She needed help.

Azira was on top of the archer, slamming him into the ground. She couldn't see the danger the kelvic was in. One of the widows thrust forward and Sira twisted, taking another scratch, and tried to bring her sword around for an attack. Her second opponent was there, parrying for his partner, and shoving Sira back a step.

I can't do this, she thought, staggering back and swinging her sword to deflect another attack. After all this I'll die, and then they'll take her back and it will have been for nothing.

"Azira," she called. A widow struck at her again and Sira parried the blow. Azira was still busy with the archer, though from what Sira could tell the Symenestra looked as if it were already dead.

Endal Azira, she shouted into Azira's mind. Get that bow! Your wind eagle needs you!

From Bondage to Bonded

Postby Azira on February 20th, 2017, 8:38 pm

Azira felt drunk, or rather intoxicated in some way. Everything around her seemed to teether back and forth gently. the ground beneath her feet felt like it was moving, shifting beneath her as she sought traction while she wasn't even moving. Voices were singing in her head, urging her to use her magic to increase the joy she felt now tenfold. She was certainly tempted to return to her casting but Sira's voice, a command through the bond broke the spell that the sweet whispers had over her. Instead she focused on the bow that she'd retrieved--her bow. She collected her quiver and strapped it to her side, drawing an arrow from it as she shuffled her feet apart to strengthen her stance for shooting. The shaft of the projectile was slipped into the arrow rest, the string resting against the shaft at a point close to the fletching. Her index finger settled above the fletching, while her middle and ring fingers held it from beneath. Her grip was light as she tugged the string taut, simultaneously attempting to raise it, which resulted in a slightly jerky motion.

Once her arrow was nocked and drawn, the huntress did her best to aim the wavering tip at one of the widows who was attacking Sira. She crinkled one eye shut to improve her ability to sight down the shaft and aimed for the man's back, the broadest target, which he had towards her. Her fingers slid from the arrow, the light touch easily transitioning to a release as her arm continued the backwards movement to ensure the missile's straight path. The head buried itself a couple of inches into the soft tissue of his lower back where the kidneys would be in a human. The man half-turned towards her, a hand reaching back towards the wound as his eyes locked on her. She saw him grapple with indecision as he worked to determine if he should continue his onslaught against the Kelvic or turn his attention to the bow wielding Inarta. It allowed Azira a few ticks in which to set about nocking another arrow.

He moved quickly towards her, the arrow wound causing a jauntiness to his movements but doing little to slow him down. Doing her utmost to maintain calm, the huntress took careful backwards steps, keeping her stance while she aimed at her target which was rapidly growing larger as he neared her. This arrow she aimed towards his neck and let it fly before he could close the distance. her target shifted to the side in an attempt to dodge but the arrowhead sliced a path along the side of his neck, managing a few feet more before it dropped to the ground behind him. A thin rivulet spurted from the wound, the Symenestra clutching the wound with a scream as he tried to stem the blood flow; she must have nicked something major. Taking advantage of his distraction and their proximity to one another, the young woman nocked a new arrow and from a few feet away, shot it into his stomach. It buried itself into his abdomen almost to the fletching with a moist squelch. He collapsed to his knees.

The world still whirled a little bit, her equilibrium off but Azira picked up the dagger that had fallen from the man's fingers and while clutching his hair from behind, she pressed it hard into the flesh of his neck and dragged it roughly across. A spray of red fanned out before him. She let him flop to the ground, feeling the unfamiliar handle in her grasp. She'd prefer her hunting knife but this would suffice for the moment.

The other Symenestra had registered what had happened to their fellow but had been unable to disengage themselves from Sira to attack this other enemy.

"Let her go! Now" she screamed at them in Common, making certain that there was no room for misinterpretation. "I kill you!" Her arm swept back to encompass their fallen comrades who had died at her hands before she started to circle the band that were targeting her bondmate.

Sira! You have to get away from them and come to me. If we can put some distance between us and them then I can cut your bonds and you'll be able to deal some real damage, she explained through the link between them. I wouldn't want you to miss out on all the fun after all, she added with a mental smirk.

An arrow! Not the one in her shoulder. That was still there, of course. Every move she made reminded her that it was still there. She wished it wasn't, but it wasn't time for wishful thinking. Survival was all that was on her mind. Her parries were coming slower, and she had more than one cut on her from a dodge that came just a little too late. Thankfully nothing was serious, she knew, except for the arrow. But arrows were good too, her mind registered, particularly when they were bursting from the chest of one of her attackers. The man turned, and Sira wanted to lunge for him, but an offensive move from one of the other two widows kept her away.

Where did that arrow come from? Arrows don't usually burst from people's chests, do they? Sira had one in her shoulder, so maybe.. Azira! Sira's mind snapped back to focus as she remembered her partner, eyes darting just a moment in the woman's direction to confirm that it was indeed she who had taken one of her opponents form the battle. That was all the time she could spare. Azira was armed, and she was fighting. Good. Sira was fighting too, no time for appreciating the help.

Two daggers came at her together, both from different directions. Sira was getting tired, and had it not been for the arrow and the sudden refocusing of her mind, they probably would not have been able to avoid them. She couldn't parry both at once, but she could dodge back. It was less of a dodge, and more of a stumble, but the daggers missed.

Words in common. Her brain struggled to translate, but she was too tired for that. Was that Azira? Why was she speaking that dull language? No chirps or bird sounds at all. How could people talk like that? What was she saying? I'll kill you? Kill me? No, not me. The symenestra. Azira's voice in her head finally snapped Sira out of her confusion, and the kelvic glanced at the widows who were hesitating. She didn't. The kelvic quickly darted toward her bondmate, and the widows did not pursue.

"Quick, cut the rope!"

As soon as her hands were free Sira spun back to face the pair of widows, now holding her weapon proper, which took some of the pressure off her other arm. It still hurt when she moved, but not nearly as bad as when she had been forced to move both arms together. The symenestra were gone. What? Sira's eyes scanned ahead and she easily spotted them, despite the fading light, running west toward the beach.

"The boat,"[shadow] she shouted, and ran forward a few steps before she stumbled and nearly hit the ground. Pain, still, lots of pain. [shadow=black]"They're going for their boat, they have to be!" She let out something like a growl and reached up for the arrow in her shoulder, applying some pressure as if she were going to break it off, but let out a hiss of pain instead and removed her hand. She couldn't get it out herself. "They're going to get away!

OOCSorry for taking so long, life has been busy. Also our A/C decided to break down, and so I'm boiling, which makes it hard to think about writing.
