Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

"Isurian Bladeworks..."
Kamilla hadn't noticed the quaint building before today, though it wasn't particularly eye catching nor was it situated on one of her more travelled paths so it wasn't much of a surprise. The words written on the sign suggested that it was a weapon smith, something the sorceress never had much interest in until recently, because of Riverfall's requirement that each citizen be competent in the use of at least one weapon, magic not included.

Since discovering that she'd need to pass the requirement in order to own a home in the city rather than living in an impersonal inn, Kamilla had payed the library a few visits, researching weapons in hopes of finding one that seemed simple enough for her to use and during that research she'd sparked an intrigue in weapons and their design, especially those tools of a more elegant appearance. Although she'd seen plenty of sketches of all kinds of weapons in the Valkalah Library there were two weapons designs that had really caught her attention, her favorite of the two being the iron fan.

Lacking any immediate obligations for the time being and having little else of interest to do for the day, Kamilla allowed her curiosity to spur her on and into the newly discovered building that she assumed was a store. She wore her long dark brown hair loose today, falling freely down her back and over her shoulders, her short purple dress with its longer billowing lace tail forming a nice contrast against her warm skin and on her feet, as always, her black knee high leather boots which concealed the ugly burn scar on her lower left leg.

Aliana got her little one settled in before starting her work day. With the extra office only used after a sale is made, the young mother turned it into a half nursery for Larrisa. The little one was growing very quickly much to the Isur’s surprise. She had not dealt with children much while growing up. As other girls dreamed of their own families, the woman kept her head down and in the fire dreaming of her business spreading all over the world. Sitting in the office while writing down a list of supplies that would be needed to send with her apprentice the light growl of Ink caught her attention. Looking up the girl paused in her movements seeing someone enter the business. A clanging could be heard in the distance from where the young man was working on repairing some daggers for another client. The woman did not mind that it was taking a while to grow her business, the speed made it easy for her to learn with each new curve. Standing up she walked out and over to the woman with a smile.

“Hello, is there something that I can help you with?” Aliana asked while wiping her hands.

Reaching down the woman rubbed the growling animals head with a soft touch. Soon it retreated in the room to watch after the child. Looking back towards the dark-haired woman that had entered, skilled eyes took in her appearance. Tan skin, black hair as dark as coal, with a black outfit on was an interesting sight for the young Isur. It did not intimidate her in the slightest; of course, from the other female’s stance she highly doubted that was her intentions. If it was then she was doing a terrible job of it. Popping her neck, the raven-haired woman listened to her request while folding her arms. Thinking back on what her father had taught her as an apprentice, she could not recall an item of the same description.

The first thing Kamilla noticed upon entering the store was the clanging of metal on metal, a sound she didn't need to be a smith to recognize, but before the young sorceress even had time to consider searching for whoever was causing the noise her attention was caught by a low and intimidating growl off to one side of her. Deep brown eyes moved to find the source of the sound, immediately settling upon a very large approaching dog that forced a soft hiss and tensing of muscles out of her against her will, the cause of which Kamilla had no doubt was the remnants of the cat obsessed deceased mage Felinius who's memories and habits still clung to her own. Willing herself to relax with a silent breath, Kamilla crossed her arms as she admired the large canine, she'd always liked animals of all kinds and the dog was no exception, but having the instincts of another person intwined with her own complicated things some and she always found herself having to make a conscious effort to remember which traits were her own and which were not.

"Hello, is there something that I can help you with?"

At the sound of the women's voice the large dog instantly stopped its growling, remaining only for a moment before trotting off back towards the room where it's master had just emerged from. The woman in question was first and foremost, notably short and stout, her hair dark and not reaching past her shoulders and one of her arms was a beautiful purple that matched Kamilla's dress... she was not human, or at least not entirely. "Greetings, I'm in search of someone who sells or is capable of making me a certain unusual weapon." her words were plainly stated, she'd lost a lot of her unnecessarily polite facade during her time in Sahova, after all the undead had no time for pleasantries.

The young sorceress ran a hand through her dark brown hair absentmindedly as she thought on how best to explain the weapon before finally parting her red painted lips to speak once more, "It's called an iron fan and I suppose it resembles a regular folding fan with pointed iron spokes that resemble thin daggers." There was no better way she could think to describe it, hopefully the short woman would know what she was talking about and would be willing to sell her one.

The woman crossed her arms trying to decide if her father had ever created such a weapon. Nothing crossed her mind turning without saying anything else, the woman motioned for the other to follow her. A gentle cooing could be heard from where Ink sat watching the Isurian's child. With a soft smile to the child, Aliana took on the face of business letting the other sit at her own will. Leaning back in her chair, the woman got the book of expenses closed and put away. Grabbing some paper and a folding fan, she traced the outline before adding in a few details at the bottom. Moving the sketch towards the middle of the table, where the other girl could see the Isur began going over details.
“I can add a hamon line here,” Aliana said and made light line about a half inch from the top, “From there up I can sharpen into a point on both sides making it a close range weapon. You would have to be careful of letting little ones get a hold of it without knowing about its sharpness.”

Making another quick and smaller sketch towards the bottom, the woman continued her speech.

“If you do not want the edge sharpened only. I can put individual blades strapped on from the base up. They would poke about a fourth of an inch above the natural top of the fan. For that I would suggest having a special holder for it so that your clothes don't get ripped up,” Aliana explained and used the regular fan to show where the blades would stick up from, “then from there if you wanted a special design in the handle we can carve that out easily.”

The strange woman crossed her arms, clearly sorting through her own thoughts which allowed Kamilla to eye her curiously, taking in the finer details of her strong purple arm. The woman seemed to conclude whatever she'd been doing in her head and turned to walk into the office where the dog had just returned to, gesturing for Kamilla to follow. The sorceress wasted no time in entering the quaint room and taking a seat, sparing only a moment to cast her deep brown gaze in the direction of the baby and only to confirm that it was indeed a baby, she'd never spent much time around non-adults.

By the time Kamilla had taken a seat the strange woman had already gotten to work tracing a folding fan on a blank page and adding a few adjustments. The woman mentioned a 'hamon' and Kamilla was about to say that she had no idea what a 'hamon' was when the woman made an addition to her diagram of the fan which more or less explained it. From there on she went on to detail possible options for the weapon, all of which Kamilla gave serious consideration. She was no warrior, nor did she have any intention of relying on the iron fan for defense, it was simply a result of her curiosity for unusual things and love of beautiful things, of which a fighting fan was both.

Despite her lack of interest in the object as a weapon, Kamilla had come up with a few specifications she thought would make it more than an ornament to her prior to visiting the blacksmith. The sorceress' narrowed her gaze in the direction of the diagram as she considered the woman's proposals and how best to form a compromise between them and her own ideas. Diagrams and drawings were hardly foreign to her, she'd seen plenty during her season as an apprentice at Bornn & Goldweorth's gadget factory back in Zeltiva and had even drawn up a few, albeit basic, diagrams of her own.

Finally breaking her focus on the diagram, Kamilla's gaze rose to meet the strange woman's as she held out her hand expectantly for the drawing utensil, "May I?" although it was posed as a question it had a light but notable demanding lilt to it. The woman had brought up some excellent points that Kamilla had overlooked such as the danger of her clothing getting ripped up unintentionally by the fan as well as some useless points like the one about the children, though she supposed she only thought so because she was hardly ever around the little creatures.

Once the woman had handed over the utensil Kamilla immediately got to work adding the adjustments she had in mind after considering her given options and personal expectations for the fan. "Considering my options, I think a safe compromise would be to have the two outermost spokes be wooden, blunt and straight edged and an inch longer than the pointed inner spokes..." she illustrated this by adding a slightly elongated square shape to the appropriate spokes, "... That should make it seem more inconspicuous as well as safer... for my clothes." she paused for a brief moment to look up at the woman to gauge whether she was following though she doubted even a fool would have been confused by such minor details, let alone an accomplished blacksmith, assuming this woman actually was the blacksmith, though she certainly seemed it.

Returning to the rough diagram Kamilla added a small circle at the very bottom of the fan where all the spokes would meet, "Other than that I'd like a little hole so I can run a strap through it and wear it on a belt and I'd also like the material of the fan to be a black material that's solid and patterned and then becomes semitransparent, perhaps lace, from about halfway up... As for carvings, I'd definitely like some decorative patterns on both the wider wooden outer spokes as well as the thinner sharp pointed metal inner spokes." Having said all she needed to say, Kamilla placed the utensil down over the diagram before straightening up to look at the strange woman, "What do you think?" she asked, sure Kamilla was the customer but her desires would mean nothing if the people who were to make the fan were incapable of fulfilling her requests.

Aliana listened looking at the design as the woman described it and sketched it. Thankful for the sketch before her, the Isur was interested to see how the well the longer spokes of iron would do for the weapon. Watching the woman was not worried about the designs on the fabric in the least. Curious to how well the crafting would go, she planned on making a second to put on display to be sold. Trying to decide how best to add an attachment that would allow for access would prove to be the more difficult part she believed. Nodding confident in her ability the Isur looked at her with a smile.

“I think that would be very easy. With the intricacy it will take many days to finish, but first I intend to do some research over the next few days. Leave me your work address and upon it's completion I will send for you to come pick it up,” Aliana stated very clearly, “do we have a deal?”

Once the formalities were out of the way, Aliana showed the woman out to speak with Holly. Hearing a loud crash, she winced and dismissed herself going to see what happened. Ink growled watching his master walk away from the outsider. Setting everything right the young mother walked back out to say one more good bye to their guest while loving on Ink. The Imperial Watcher was turning out to be a much more smart buy than originally anticipated. Popping her neck the girl walked back inside picking up the drawing before excusing herself for the afternoon to go look for weapon's scrolls at the library. If she was lucky there may be some actual books in the building. Picking up Larissa the pair walked off while Ink stayed behind watching the woman's office while she was away.

The strong armed woman did not seem to foresee any problems with her proposed ideas and Kamilla found herself relieved and impressed by the woman's profesionslism, the blacksmith had payed attention to the finer details without questioning her specifications at all, which she could only assume meant that she thought they were something she could accomplish, or at least that's what Kamilla hoped. She'd already decided she liked this smith, though her opinion of her as a smith would rely entirely on the end result. At the very least she [u]seemed[/u{ confident, judging by the way she conducted herself.

"I think that would be very easy. With the intricacy it will take many days to finish, but first I intend to do some research over the next few days. Leave me your work address and upon it's completion I will send for you to come pick it up... do we have a deal?"

They had not discussed a price but that didn't bother Kamilla at all, so long as she got an acceptable iron fan at a price that didn't seem excessive she would be happy, also she understood that there was no for the smith to accurately estimate the price when she had never created that particular weapon before. "We do indeed..." she began, sitting back in her chair and making eye contact, "Though send for me at my current home address instead, my name is Kamilla and I'm staying at the Kulkukan Tavern and Inn, you can just leave a message at the bar." She made sure to write her information on the paper offered as well, not really expecting the smith to remember her detail.

With that and a nod to conclude they were done with their negotiation, both women rose to their feet and Kamilla was escorted out of the office. There was a large crash from within the building as she stepped back out into the streets and although she wondered what it was and if it would disturb the baby, it was not her problem. As she walked off down the street, Kamilla couldn't help but feel satisfied with how efficient the negotiation had been, so efficient in fact that a feeling of Sahovan nostalgia bubbled within the young sorceress. She was looking forward to seeing this iron fan.

I am afraid i have to withhold your grades until you update your ledger. You have some threads timestamped in summer. Be sure to notify me when you sort that out so that i may grant you your grades.

Grader's Comments:
That aside, if there are any problems with the grade itself, my PM box is ever open. If you wanted a specific lore, be sure to tell me, so that we can discuss the mater. Also Kamilla, a balded fan? Oh my, that is sure going to sting - especially if made by a blacksmith such as Aliana. Wanting to leave one's comfort zone in crafts is a path sure to lead to success, and that goes double for magic.
