The pirate’s voice simply angered the young Svefra again but he knew he couldn’t let it take his attention away from their situation, that wouldn’t help them in the least so he willed himself to stay calm if not careful.. Finn stopped and pointed at the ferret as it continued to make its way across the deck “Hoped would be a little bit more accurate I think, since we haven’t been able to get rid of your stench from our last meeting yet!”

With the hooks holding them tightly he knew they had almost no options left open to them anymore but he was quite stunned when the young mage shouted to him. He turned to see the smirk on her face “Sink their ship?” He said almost to himself. For a tick he wondered if she really could do it until he saw the purple magic forming in her palms, he had no idea what she was up to but thought she had something in mind or maybe she really could do what she said. He slowly moved across the heaving deck towards the nearest hook but also tried to keep a watchful eye on the pirates at the same time.

Finn stopped in his tracks as the first mate leveled the crossbow at him. He was almost in reach of one hook and not more than two or three long strides from the second one but was pretty sure he would pay a heavy price if he moved. He knew what he had to do as he prepared himself for it but was caught completely off guard by Kamilla’s laugh. He hadn’t expected it to be sure considering while her answer to the pirate captain sent a chill down his spine. The magic she held in her palms was meant for something regardless of her trembling, he would bide his time for whatever she had planned. He felt in awe of her strength of will as the storm raged around the ships, while he admitted to himself that for the first time since he met her that he may even be a little afraid of what she could do.

Finn looked between the mage and the pirate as the pirate seemed to square off against her. He stalled for time as he grinned and asked with all honesty “Are you so certain she can’t do it?” Arrow or no, he would cut the ropes at the first opportunity he could get in an attempt to get away. His casinor held captive by the pirates and ravished by both the Storm and Sea gods, he murmured a quick prayer to them both for all their safety as he carefully watched the crossbowman for the slightest hint of movement. Both ships groaned and lurched about in the storm and green seawater broke over the sides to drench everything in its path as they floundered about in the storm.

With Finn’s question, the bald pirate seemed to at least consider the possibility that she was capable of more threatening feats than filling some sails with wind. Still locked in a staring competition with the short man, rain, wind and sea ignored, Kamilla could almost see the spark of doubt as it briefly drifted through the pirate’s mind. Now was the time to up the ante.

Allowing her subtle smirk to grow ever so slightly, Kamilla willed the small balls of glowing lavender res to expand and separate into a thick mist, then into a series of droplets hovering in rings around her wrists. Raising her arms a bit higher, Kamilla began to will the small amounts of res to rotate around her wrists, simultaneously willing a weak attraction effect on the surrounding air and water. The results were immediately visible.

With the weak attraction effect in place, both the pirates and Finn would be able to see the glistening rings of lavender res as the rotated around Kamilla’s arms, the raindrops in her immediate vicinity plucked out of their natural course from sky to see, as they were pulled towards the rotating res, causing a small but visible vortex of drops and whipping winds around each wrist.

The nearby wind would seem to all head in the mages direction while the attracted drops followed her res pattern before eventually straying too far from the cycle and flying off. The display, while hopefully impressive, was just that, a display. With the amount of res she’d struggled to product, Kamilla doubted she even had enough to attack more than one pirate effectively. Her entire plan hinged on how convincing her bluff was.

Kamilla could see the threat play on the baldest pirate’s features for at least a few ticks before disappearing completely to be replaced with a very smug and toothless smile. ”Well then, I guess I’m just going to have te call ye on yer bluff... Heart dropping and eyes widening, Kamilla could only watch on in fear as the pirate turned to his crew, ”Go on then. Skally! Wag! What are you waiting fer? Get on that ship!”

Watching as two more unsavoury pirates appeared on the deck, swords already drawn, Kamilla could see her plan had failed, things were looking bleak and there was only one thing left to do. Desperation set in, encouraged by panic as Kamilla pooled all her will into her small amount of res, willing it all in front of her in s thick lavender mist. ”Finn!” she shouted, hoping the Svefra be ready to do something before forcing her res mist forwards and toward the pirates climbing over their railing to drop onto the casinor. As the res shot forth, Kamilla quickly willed it to attract as much air as possible, before transmuting it into air.

The spell created a surprisingly, even to her, powerful blast of wind, fired in the direction of the pirates on the other ship, hair and clothes were blown out of place, while any hats were sent flying into the air. The two pirates currently climbing onto their railings were almost blasted onto their asses, having been unsteady at the time and the pirate aiming the crossbow at Finn was caught completely off guard, losing his crossbow as it flew to the deck while he stumbled backwards and fell, immediately scrambling to retrieve his weapon and footing.

The captain, being far closer to the deck than his crew, was unperturbed by the spell, seemingly more angry about his crew being made to look like fools. ”What are ye sea rats doing!? It’s just wind. Get yer petchin asses up and onto that ship!”

This was the best chance they would get, she hoped Finn would be able to make a difference with the time she’d bought.

Kamilla amazed him again, the mage proved to be quite resourceful when they needed it the most. As the vortex pulled the water and rain into them, all eyes were on her, including Finn’s as he glanced over at her as she wielded her magic so expertly while she made it appear as easy as breathing. After watching her earlier in the day, he knew she willingly paid a price for her ability which made the determined young woman more dangerous. A small grin played across his face for just a tick as he watched the funnels grow before he turned back to the first mate that watched him so intently to keep his cutlass away from the ropes.

As the two pirates climbed onto the rail to drop onto his ship, he forced himself to wait on Kamilla despite every instinct he had told him to act then immediately. He waited until the mate turned ever so slightly to look at Kamilla’s efforts before he stepped forward and swung his cutlass heavily at the line in front of him. Kamilla’s call for action only fueled his energy as the line snapped back at the pirate ship like a bowstring. He expected to be impaled by a crossbow projectile that never came but he didn’t waste any time with looking at why, it didn’t so he made the best of the ticks that Kamilla had so wonderfully given them while the pirate captain yelled at his crew to get moving.

Finn turned on his heel and jumped to the back of the ship, where the last line, strained with tension of the storm, snapped easily at the lightest touch from the blade of his cutlass. The line cracked again as it struck the pirates ship, dislodging something or with any luck maybe someone as he heard a large splash nearby. The grapple hook itself clattered onto his deck before it fell into the water to be lost forever as the pirates ship continued on its course without them again.

With the tension and drag of the pirate ship released, the little casinor’s rudder immediately caught and lurched as it veered away from the pirate ship. Finn grabbed the rail and held on tightly as the ship leaned badly to one side before it finally rode over the large wave. He fought the weather as he tried to get back to Kamilla and the ship’s wheel near her so he could regain control of the ship again. “Need to get to the wheel and straighten us out!” he called out as he continued to try and get to there while the only good point was the pirates still hadn’t stopped or turned yet.

The moment her spell had hit, knocking some of the pirate crew, unfortunately not including the stout captain, off of their balance and even disarming one of them, Kamilla could see that Finn was already inaction. The Svefra seemed to leap from one grapple to the other, severing the ropes that tethered their tiny ship to the pirates’ in a matter of ticks while she fell to her knees feeling a bubble form in her throat.

She dry heaved several times, feeling the bubble slowly make its way up and towards her mouth, just as their little ship was fully released from the pirate ship’s grip and was sent careening in the opposite direction, Kamilla lunging forwards to grab at the rail but missing entirely. The mage was send sliding unceremoniously across the slippery deck as she desperately tried to grab a hold of anything her hands could find, but in vain. Her little slide had her rotating horizontally just in time to slam into the railings at the opposite end of the ship, the bubble in her throat finally as she spewed her meal for the day between the railings and into the ocean. It had been an air bubble, she was sure of it. An odd side effect of her overgiving. She’d spent far too much of herself already and could feel an odd mixture of lightness and heaviness in her body, her arms especially.

As she lay there, the only thing keeping her from the waters being the railings of the ship which she clung to desperately, Kamilla could do nothing but hope that she’d done enough and rely on her Svefra companion to somehow save them. Gods, she hoped he could.

Meanwhile, the pirates who had stumbled had regained their footing, only to stumble yet again as the ship’s separated sending their own lurching in the opposite direction, albeit with less intensity. Once again the short captain held fast, subtly clenching onto his own ship’s railing to keep his balance while yellong at his underlings, now clearly enraged.

”If one of ye petching rats, doesn’t put an arrow in that Svefra and his mage bitch right now! I’m goin’ ta feed ye to Pompadour bit by bit over the next few weeks while forcing ye to scrub every inch of the ship between meals! Ya hear me!”

One of the crewmates must have heard and taken the threat to heart as he snatched up his crossbow and lunged towards the railing already pulling the trigger in a messy shot directed at the casinor in general, reloading impressive fast and firing another.

His casinor continued take the brunt of the weather as it awkwardly turned in the waves. Kamilla slid across the slippery deck as the ship listed badly to the side and he faired only slightly better while he continued to fight his way toward the ship’s helm. He was forced to watch as she slid around dangerously and nearly fell off the side of the ship, he knew that he couldn’t help her at that moment except to steady his ship. The thought that something might happen to her bothered him greatly as he doubled his efforts.

Finn could hear her Kamilla as she emptied her stomach over the side of the ship, she seemed to have the rails in a tight grip but at least she was still aboard with him. She could reach down and touch the water with her hands which probably meant she was way too close to it for her comfort and admittedly for his as well but if he didn’t get control of the ship back soon then they would be in another dire situation.

The pudgy little pirate hurled insults at everyone in sight although Finn paid little attention to him at the moment, he had far more important things to worry about like not killing the mage or himself. He watched as a bolt sunk into the wood decking near Kamilla followed quickly by a second shot that pierced his pants high above the ankle. The bolt brought him out of his revelry quickly enough as he doubted his leg was even scratched from the bolt which was quite lucky for him.

He yanked his leg as the cloth ripped away leaving a hole in his pants, he realized how much worse that could of went if the bolt was an inch closer. He lifted himself off the deck and partially onto his feet while he steadied himself with his hands and held on to anything he could grab. He half slid his way and half crawled as the ship finally crested a larger wave and started sliding down the back side of the wave. Nearing the wheel, he saw that is spun freely as the storm pushed and pulled them around on its whim.

Finn dived forward to finally seize his own prize as the ship jolted again, he pulled himself up in front of it while he held it steady. He spun the wheel furiously to one side as the small ship slowly spun around to have the wind on their backs. The ticks passed slowly as they lurched less and less, soon to be replaced with a more rhythmic although severe rolling from cutting through the storm’s waves. The sails slowly filled with wind again, going from violently cracking with every gust like a whip and throwing them around the deck to a slow gentle push as they continued to turn.

As he corrected the ship’s direction and the wind filled the sails to give him speed and control over their vessel again, his focus on controlling the ship diminished as he surveyed his ship. Several lines had come undone and was strewn around the deck, the pirates were still way too close although he had no idea where the ferret was or if it even made it back to the pirate’s ship and the balding pirate captain or whether it remained on his ship. He quickly tied the wheel off to check on his passenger whom he had lost sight of at some point during his struggle to get the ship under control.

Still hanging onto the railings with all the strength she had left in her heavy arms, Kamilla could do nothing but stare into the dark waters below and hope that Finn would be and to keep them safe. She wondered what it would be like to drown, to really drown, sink into the endless abyss without air or warmth and just disappear. Her morbid thoughts ceased as a crossbow bolt whizzed past her, splashing into the water below, so close she could reach down and snatch it up if needed.

After what felt like an eternity of desperately holding onto the rails, the little ship finally toppled over, back to the way it should be, Kamilla rolling over onto her back, chest heaving. It seemed that Finn had done it and lifting her heavy head to cast a glimpse in the direction of the wheel and spotting the heroic Svefra hard at work. A few more ticks and their ship seemed to be moving once again.

”Please tell me we’ve lost those perching pirates.” The words were spat out as she forced herself up into a sitting position, searching the horizon for the pirate ship and spotting its silhouette as a flash of lightning illuminated the sky, followed by a deafening roar of thunder.

The pirate ship was a short ways behind them, it’s side facing their ship, which meant they’d need time to correct their course, hopefully they would give them time to get a head start. ”They’re not facing us...” It was an obvious statement, but Kamilla wasn’t sure if Finn had noticed.

No sooner than he had tied off the ship’s wheel, than he heard Kamilla’s voice swearing out the pirates not that he disagreed with her sentiment at all. He prayed that one of the Laviku’s Kalvikasi would come and drag the pirates down to the depths below but instead he sighed with relief, as he realized she was still aboard and near where he last saw her slide across the deck. The woman sat on the wet deck in the pouring rain, she looked tired but otherwise ok as the thunder shook the boat yet again.

He followed Kamilla’s thoughts though as he started scanning the horizon for the other vessel which was quickly found just a short way off from them. “No, not yet” he answered her but wished he could of said otherwise. He squatted low on the deck, keeping his own balance as the ship continued gathering it’s speed again. “No they are not.” he agreed after he watched for a few ticks himself before he stood and made he staggered his way toward the sails as the ship was buffeted by the wind and the waves.

He carefully adjusted the sails to make good use of the wind as best as he could. “Stay low Kamilla, the sail is coming around” he warned her as the sail passed over where she was sitting. The large sail billowed fully with the force of the storm in it before he secured the lines again hopeful that the storm wouldn’t tear it away. With the sail set again and the wheel secured as well, he felt confident that his ship was safe enough from the storm itself as long as he watched it carefully enough.

Finn carefully walked across the slick deck over to where Kamilla sat and offered the woman a hand up, “Nicely done back there, the thought of being hit by that crossbow wasn’t exactly how I planned on this day going. Although to be honest I half expected their ship to have a boulder sent thru the side of it or for it to burst into flames!”. He shot her a smile even as he joked with her, but deep down he doubted it was a joke of any kind.

“Looks like we have a small lead for the moment anyway.” he stated as he watched behind them not entirely sure whether to be hopeful just yet or preparing for another battle. The pirates had started turning but it appeared slow to him. Whether it be from the storm, something wrong, or normal he didn’t know for sure. Only time would tell but every tick felt hopeful to the young Svefra as he refused to let his guard down.

Still exhausted from not only the overgiving but the entire ordeal with the pirates as well as being flung across the deck, Kamilla could do little more than observe at this point. She still had the safety rope tied around her waist but was beyond grateful that she had yet to need it, she was far too tired to attempt not to drown on top of everything else she'd already gone through. Thankfully, Finn still seemed to be in somewhat of a high spirit considering their pridicament, even cracking a small joke in an attempt to lighten the mood.

"If I could have, we'd be in a very different situation right now."

Kamilla had never killed a person, nor did she want to, but at this point she felt that the pirates were going out of the way to force her hand and if she was indeed driven to it, she'd have little regrets. It didn't matter though, so much of her djed had been consumed that the remainder had stiffened and become unresponsive to her attempts to reach for it. They were all out of magic.

She'd remained seated up until Finn physically came over and helped her up, to which she offered a small nod as thanks, brown eyes already searching for the pirate ship. It didn't take long to spot it.

It seemed that in the ticks since they'd broken free of the grappling hooks, they'd put some good distance between themselves and the enemy ship which had only just succesfully changed its course, for them.

"We do. Let's try and keep it." Her voice wavered due to exhaustion but yhe determination in her dark eyes were unavoidable. She had not come to die on the trip to Syka, especially not to a bunch of filthy pirates, though at this point their survival relied on whatever Finn could do.

Finn gave Kamilla a wry smile as she responded and almost wished she had sunk or damaged the pirates, then at least they would not be following his ship anymore. He watched the pirates as he waited for her to pull herself off the deck and get her balance back again as the ship waves continued to sway the ship. Once the woman was on her feet and steady, Finn continued forward toward the grapple that still dragged behind his ship.

Finn could hear the tiredness in the mage’s voice as she spoke. “I agree completely and will get right on it” he replied as he wondered if there was more that he could have done earlier to prevent the pirates from catching them a second time but he quickly decided that these thoughts would be better left for a later time when they were safe as the distraction right then would only hinder his efforts and not help the current situation at all. .

He pried the grapple out of the rail before he pitched it over the side, the line pulling away from the side of the ship and sinking with the attached hook. “Shame to throw it away but much quicker this way.” He grabbed the rail again as a large wave crashed into the front of the casinor and doused him with seawater as the spray spread down the length of the ship while he made his way back toward the sail to make sure the lines were tight and hold in the weather.

“Gained a larger lead but they have turned behind us again” he stated out loud as he gauged the distance between the two ships. He worked his way around as he checked, tightened, and tied all the lines to the sails while he attempted to coax speed from the sails as they continued to cut through the waves a little faster with each line. The ticks passed slowly or felt like it to Finn as he worked the sails before he returned to the wheel.

“How many different magics do you know Kamilla?” Finn asked as he untied the wheel to adjust their heading against the waves and hoped a conversation might help pass a little time easier. He wasn’t sure if Kamilla would be up for it or not but he tried anyway, but he kept an eye on the pirates as they slowly slipped a bit further and further behind but he didn’t stop adjusting his casinor. The waves slowly decreased as the storm lightened a little although the rain continued heavily, the wind blew fairly steadily as they sailed.

Standing up so soon may have been a mistake as Kamilla began to feel as if her legs could fold under her at any moment. She was forced to grab hold of the nearest solid object to her, the wheel,  leaning heavily on it for support from both the swaying ship and her exhaustion. The action mirrored how she was relying heavily on the svefra and his skills to cross the Suvan Sea safely, she honestly had no idea how people could live over water yet the svefra thrived at sea, they were a truly impressive people.

Still clinging to the wheel for support while she attempted to regain at least some of her strength, Kamilla's eyes went from following Finn around the boat as he worked to searching the distance for the enemy ship which was a distance away but had now finally changed course, as the handsome man had just pointed out. Good. At least they'd managed to breakaway somewhat. While she didn't know the pirates at all, she was sure that their patience had been tested far too much for things to go well the next time they met face to face, they must have been enraged by herself and Finn's antics by now.

Either way, there was nothing she could do to help for the time being, other than staying out of Finn's hair so he could work, which was fine by her too because she needed to gather herself to overcome the overgiving and exhaustion. She was doing her best, but now that all the excitement of the moment had died down she could feel something else she hadn't previously had time to notice, her realisation made more intense as a wave broke over the boat spraying her with icy water.

She was cold.  Freezing. They'd survived the entire ordeal whilst being soaked in the heavy downpour and for some reason it was now beginning to take effect. Kamilla, chilled to the bone and exhausted,  must have been sad sight at that moment in time, weakly clutching the steering wheel whilst using her free hand to hold herself as her body shool with the cold and her teeth rattled.

“How many different magics do you know Kamilla?”

Having finished whatever adjustments he'd been making and returned to the wheel where Kamilla was doing her best impression of a woman who was not freezing, whilst freezing, the question had caught her somewhat off guard, so much so that for a moment she'd forgotten the cold altogether in favour or contemplating where Finn might be heading with his question. She had no idea.

"None that would put a swift and satisfying end to this problem, in fact, I think that I'm about all out of magic for the day."

It was unfortunate but true, Kamilla wasn't sure she'd be able to remain conscious if she exhausted djed anymore. She'd gone from barely using her djed at all or seasons in Riverfall to suddenly forcing her inner energies to perform large and strenuous tasks. It was akin to someone going from no physical labour to suddenly doing heavy lifting for an entire day. Her body was shocked by the sudden change and she cursed her own lack of discipline for not having maintained herself over the past seasons, but that was something for less serious times, they still needed to survive the storm and the pirates.
