Melroy Manor

Built in the 300s BV, and having seen much remodeling over the course of the centuries, the stately residence of the Melroy family has been a quiet place for Zeltivan’s to admire from afar as long as anyone can remember. The family has resided in the Ancient Quarter of Zeltiva since their arrival to prominence in the 200s AV, and has maintained what has grown to be a vital necessity of Zeltivan life for just as long, the Farms. Entry onto the Melroy estate is restricted a majority of the time. Those interested in seeking an audience with one of the Melroys usually do so by way of messenger dove and then official invitation. The whole of the lands are protected by high walls that are patrolled by both Wave Guards and private protection in the employ of the Melorys. The estate, as well as those who tend to it, is considered precious to all manner of authorities in the city. Not easily will anyone seeking entry bypass the measures put in place to safeguard one of Zeltiva’s most valuable resources.

The Melroy family themselves are very well grounded people, despite their isolated manor. The Melroys are a deeply religious family. There exists within their mansion a chapel devoted to several different deities, each who play a part in the work they do for Zeltiva. Chief in their hearts is the Goddess of Autumn and the Harvest, Bala. Without her blessings the majority of their work would not be possible. Second to her is Bala’s mother, Caiyha who is given thanks almost as often as Bala. They are also known to be avid worshippers of Syna with several family members bearing her marks. Makutsi and Tyveth also hold places of honor in the Melroy household. The Melroys are stalwart patrons of the University of Zeltiva offering large donations to the College of Scholars, and the College of Trade. They are firm believers that without the insight provided by the thinkers at the University the whole of Zeltivan life would collapse. It is a belief that has been shaped by a long partnership with the studious men and women who walk the University’s halls.

ImagePolitically the Melroys are rather removed from the fire of Zeltiva’s embroiling politics. While this hasn’t always been the case, the current patriarch of the family is a wise man who believes in living to serve the people of the city and not the greed of a politician’s agenda. It is a point that has caused a great deal of contention with several less honest prominent figures in the city. Still, there are very, very few who would dare to cross the Melroys. The work they do and the service they provide the city is quite literally what keeps the city alive. To anger them is to jeopardize the tedious balance they help maintain as far as the city’s infrastructure is concerned. For the most part the family in general is far too busy supervising the steady cultivation of their lands or brokering agreements with the authorities of Syliras to bother.

An interesting dynamic to the family is that the heir to the Melroy holdings is determined by one’s favor with the Goddess of the Harvest. While the individual who garner’s Bala’s favor is often a skilled man or woman in their own right that does not necessarily equate to birth order or age. As a result there is fierce competition among the younger generations in attempts to garner her favor.

Only five percent of all land in Zeltiva is set aside for the sustainment of a population. Of that five percent, ninety-nine percent of it is owned and tended to by the Melroy family. They do not profit directly off of the foods they grow however. Although the land upon which the food is grown is owned by the Melroy family, its distribution is regulated by the Zeltivan government. The family is compensated quite generously by the Zeltivan authorities both on the record…and sometimes off. The Melroy’s also possess exclusive trade rights with the city of Syliras. Every caravan by land that travels back and forth from Zeltiva to Syliras is owned and funded by the Melroy family.

The Melroy Farms are truly a marvel of ingenuity. Taking a total of two decades to build and even longer to cultivate, the Farms are a series of land plots where specific foods are grown to assist in sustaining the population of Zeltiva. Through the combined efforts of the Melroy farmers, scholars of the University, and the never ending toil of skilled philterers and craftsmen, these fertile lands are allowed to thrive under constant attention. The Farms are sectioned off into four parts where different crops are grown and rotated in order to keep the soil thriving. Still, Zeltiva’s environment is only forgiving to so many vegetables, and even fewer fruits. Roots and tubers make up a bulk of the Farm’s yield, along with beans, cabbage, and some spices.

Believing that their family is better situated outside of the heat of Zeltiva’s politics he has continued his grandfather’s work of focusing only on the needs of the city. He has taken on the primary duties of planning harvests and ensuring that food is preserved in the stores in case of famine. When not busy dealing ensuring the success of the Farms, he can often be found among the wheat field, silently helping the hands that tend to it.

It is he who manages the trade caravans, arranges most of the city contracts when Darol is too busy supervising the lands, and handles the majority of the family’s public affairs. He is a brilliant negotiator and has many far reaching connections both in and outside of Zeltiva. Although not the Patriarch of the family, and not in line to be one, Victor is often the face of the Melroys. He is the most sociable and charming of his kin, and enjoys the spotlight of handling the family’s minimal political affairs. As charming as he is suspicious, there is no doubting that if Victor were head of the Melroy family that he’d be a driving force in vying for a stronger political agenda.

Hadley Melroy

Hadley has a personality that is hard to dislike, and of the few things she cares deeply about, she has unbridled passion for, the main being her son, Jacksa, who she protectively cares for and watches over. Although preferring to spend her time focusing on the care and upkeep of the small bee colonies which help the Melroy farms thrive, she praises her son and his devotion to Caiyha dearly, taking pride in his accomplishments. She is a strong woman with a good head on her shoulders and a heart with a great capacity for warmth and compassion.

He spent much of his young years in on the edges of the city and the coastlines of Zeltiva, learning the environments and aiding them as best he could. A young man of very strong faith he spends a great deal of time at the Temple of Laviku and the coastlines of the city. While he will never take up the work his family is so well known for that has not stopped him from leading a fulfilling life on his own.He garnered the attention of Caiyha, who saw his difference as a blessing rather than a curse, and made him a witch so that he may better serve and take care of the environment around him. Few people know signs to communicate with him, although he does write notes, he prefers his solitude, seeking company in the plants and animals that surround Zeltiva rather than the people.

If you wish to play one, please PM an ST with a short write-up of your PC concept and placement within the family tree. An ST will either approve, request changes, or deny you based on consistency with existing Melroy NPC and PCs, as well as player standing/history.

There are currently no Melroy PCs.

A Melroy PC must adhere to the following guidelines and adjustments to their starting package:
⥼ The applying player must be in good standing with Zeltiva players and staff.
⥼ Must always be born into the family. PCs wishing to marry into the family can do so through gameplay (not flashbacks), and thus do not need adjustments to their starting package.
⥼ Must have at least one skill at competent (>25 points) that relates to their business/job, and one lore specific to their family.
⥼ May trade in their starting package housing options for a room within the manor which consists of a good quality fireplace, bed, wardrobe or chest of drawers, desk or table, and padded chairs. All other furnishing must be purchased.
⥼ Must work for the Farms, own and operate their own business, or attend the University. Other job options are allowed so long as they fit within the PC concept, check with an ST for job viability.
⥼ Melroy PCs are allowed a one-time family loan of up to 500 Mizas for personal use. This loan must be added to the PCs CS ledger and paid back completely within one year.
⥼ Melroy PCs wishing to operate their own business may receive a one-time family loan of up to 3,000 Mizas which they must paid back completely within two years. Mizas from this loan can only be used for the business and must be kept in a separate ledger within the PC’s CS or business Consortia.
⥼ Cultivation gnosis is not a requirement of creating a Melroy PC, although is recommended. A PC must follow normal starting gnosis guidelines to apply for one.
⥼ All other aspects of their starting package will remain the same.
