[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Harlequill on May 29th, 2010, 4:55 pm

Despite sounding like a real b*#!@H here - I'm going to be laying some smack down. I've had enough already - and I do mean enough. So please read the following and remember it.

1. Do not post one-liners in my city. They will be deleted. Don't even try and post two liners. The threads and/or posts will be deleted.

2. Do not post so blatantly lazy that you can't even be bothered to capitalize or punctuate your sentences. Again, those threads and/or posts will be deleted.

3. Do it multiple times after being warned and you will be uninvited from the game.

4. Take some pride in your work. Review your spelling, grammar, and at least TRY and make an effort. There's a vast difference from being lazy to just missing a word or misspelling here and there.

5. If someone takes over your thread or is acting in this manner, please report it to me. I admit I do not read all Syliras' threads all the time, especially when I have a busy work schedule. This is quality control. I expect quality in Syliras. I mean it.

6. Do not run NPCs that you do not have permission to run. That means, no Knights abusing you, no guards prodding you, no barkeeps (other than passing out a beer or two), no bandits, no robbers, no thieves or cutthroats, no brawls unless I know who you are and your perfectly NPC Trustworthy. If your in doubt if you are NPC trustworthy contact me and I will tell you if you are. Hint: 95% of you are NPC trustworthy. Its the 5% I don't want using them.

And to all those who consistently produce high quality posts. Thank you. Sincerely. I do appreciate it. You probably have me totally spoiled as a Storyteller for being so pleasant and thoughtful as well as insightful in your posts.

~Gossamer

At one point in February quality of writing dropped to such a point that Gossamer felt it necessary to make this post. I have to say I wholly agree, and I thinkt he problem is back. I'm not going to be mean about it, but from now on i'm going to be keeping these statements in mind when awarding xp. Just a heads up, folks.

Proper English, and no shouting would be much appreciated as well. I can see all your edits. And, our wonderful webmaster/site designer is a lovely Italian born and bred... so I have nothing but love for both him and his lovely culture and diverse people. You, however, are probably offensive with your hack and slash job of his language. I know your hack and slash on English slightly offends me as well.

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Gossamer on June 2nd, 2010, 4:19 pm

Hey guys.

If you need seasonal XP, seasonal income, a SS thread update, a post (yes Aedi.. i know you're waiting in IS), or anything else since the season change has happened, let me know. I took care of the vast majority of it I could think of this morning, but that doesn't mean I didn't miss anyone.

Also, all old threads that state they are (open) are grandfathered now so please alter the title to say (GF or Grandfathered) where they read open. And... feel free to start some new summertime fun for the newer players. If your FT is wide open, post up an open thread and meet some new folks!

Thanks!

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Gossamer on June 5th, 2010, 4:43 pm

Okay guys. I want to set a few things straight.

Seasonal XP and Seasonal Income

If you don't arrange it via a storyteller who then adds it to your Storyteller's Secret threads... or has given you thread proof (Loren and you hashed out your operating expenses and he provides you with regular letters when upgrades happen) then you don't automatically get it. There are professions that this 'income' needs to happen on a thread by thread basis. One of these that comes to mind immediately is 'Mercenary'. Mercs are out all the time doing guard duty, escort service, etc. They are freelance and work long hours away from home. If you are a mercenary, you probably don't have a lot of other professions - especially ones that require things like laboratories or workshops.

There are no modifiers on seasonal income for skill level or added bonuses like increases in arcanic knowledge etc unless its arranged with a storyteller. Meaning - you can't automatically give yourself a raise. Lots of jobs just want X amount of animal carcasses (skins, bones, meat) delivered, and they don't care how good your hypnotism is. They pay for the product or service and its a set rate. Some jobs do pay more for a higher skill, but thats because you can do more... so level matters... but then so does the charge for the amount. So if some guy wants to hire your sword to protect him on the trip from Syliras to Zeltiva.. he's not going to give you more for having Reimancy. He just needs a sword and thats what hes paying for. He'll find someone else to do it if you demand an increase because you have magic. Get it?

Now....

Self-Moderated Adventures.

There is no such critter. You can't self moderate an adventure and balance proper risk verses reward and get paid. Why? You automatically always win and this is LAME with a capital L. There are guest moderated adventures, AS-Moderated Adventures, and DS-Moderated adventures. No Moderator in this domain or the surrounding wilderness areas are going to award XP for a self-moderated adventure of which you are the hero.

Guest mod for someone and in trade they will guest mod for you. But.. if you go this route, make sure you get permission. We want them to fill out a moderator plan for your adventure before we let you two get started so they can actually build some risk verses reward into the scenario and have some planning for if you fail.

Got it?

Moving on...

Technology Levels.

Enough of this total BS. I don't want to hear any discussion of a Public Announcement System for Syliras made of D-Wire and sound wave inducers. This is a post apocalyptic world. Your PC is not so brilliant that he knows what a sound wave is. He's probably never experienced some of the wonders of the automated Citadel of Sahova because no one alive ever talks about it! No underwater submarines, no artificial lungs, no AI of any kind... unless you can somehow justify your PC having some insight to know these things exist. I'm really tired of all the genius' roaming around without any research... and guess what? Most libraries don't have a clearly defined section on 'wonders of the pre-Valterrian era'.

I'm sure there's more.

But thats enough for now.

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Daeronin on June 6th, 2010, 3:52 pm

Hey all. I'm going to be doing a brief flashback here so I just thought I should... say so. And say hi. And stuff.

Edit: And if I'm just doing a flashback within the city, do I have to start at the gates?
