“We shall see. It is difficult to see given everything that I have seen, visions given and all the rest,” he sighed but did not dwell upon the matter further, there were other things to be concerned with beyond his fate, he didn’t think he was overly special and worth much consideration in the grand scheme of things. He had not been the one captured, after all.
There followed the words about being welcome and the rest, though in truth he was putting on as brave a face as he could when he wanted to go and grab several barrels of drink and simply drown himself for a time. Things had been going so well too, better than he had ever remembered. In hindsight he felt sure he should have expected them to come crashing down eventually. He didn’t feel altogether that up to anything as he searched himself out, even his usual Djed pathways seemed muted, numbed and blocked. One phrase caught his attention and he raised his eyebrow slightly at it.
“Everywhere has shadows, it is the curse of our times it seems. Some greater, middling, smaller…honestly I’d rather not pick one at all…but seeing as we have no choice then you will find the Outpost to be one of the brighter spaces you’ll ever visit. Market stalls, shops, food and libraries only scratch the surface. Lost count of the number of gardens. And cats…cats everywhere…you’ll be right at home, perhaps”
“But I am glad that you have found sanctuary in Syka, such places should exist for all people. Somewhere to call home, and feel safe. I’m not sure your Lady would say that I have her wisdom, but what she says is true enough. You can be alone, or not. The latter is better, even if the being together lasts only so long” he tilted his head, watching her.
He listened as she laid out how little she knew, though in such a way as to communicate her enthusiasm to learn. She was so different from Moritz in so many ways, her eyes filled with a quiet introspection rather than a light of ambition for one, but there were a myriad of small differences that he had picked up on already – though it was perhaps unfair given he was measuring her against a special case in the one of the Okomo. Yet, they both seemed to share the desire to grow and learn, perhaps it was an innate trait of Kelvics? He couldn’t be sure, but he knew that he could help her.
“There are two types of magic – personal and world magic. The former is more what I know some of, though world is arguably more powerful, according the books I’ve read anyway. Auristics and Shielding are the safest to learn first, as you get used to using magic. Those were the ones that I started with,” he scratched his chin thoughtfully, his beard grating and telling him it needed a trim, “as for combat…I’ve never had much chance for ranged fighting. Streets of Sunberth are too narrow, tight. But sounds like a good idea in the jungle and beach front. Machete is good, dagger would probably be a good back up if you lost that. And then, my favourite, your own body – unarmed combat. Means if you ever get fully disarmed then you can still fight until you fall”
“I’d be happy to teach you anything that I know, even more so should it mean you could use it in your own quest alongside watching over Taz where I can’t. I’m not sure that now is the right time…I will need to process…all of this. But come Spring, not too far away now, I’ll be ready to show you anything you wish to know” he offered her with a faint smile.
