79th Day of Spring

Flick sighed miserably, sitting with her arms crossed on the table before her and staring at the mug of ale before her. The kelvic didn't drink ale, she hated it, but she needed a reason to linger in the tavern. The young creature was miserable. She missed Riverfall, she missed Kavala and she was lonely again. Syliras had seemed like such a good idea at the time. But though the city had a lot of people, they weren't very interested in saying hello to strangers. Busy busy busy, thats all they were. Sure, some people in the tavern were okay, but on a whole Flick felt utterly invisible.

She'd had to buy clothing to suit the environment here, finding something similar to her white dresses in Riverfall. Falling just above her knee with thin straps and a lace trim. Easy enough to discard in a seconds notice. Her long hair fell loosely around her and pooled on the table.

Sighing again, Flick listened to the sounds of the tavern as she contemplated her next move. Would she stay in Syliras? Would she go home? What would she do?

City Walls (open - Rearing Stallion)

Postby Ren Tanor on April 3rd, 2011, 2:32 am

Ren walked out the front door of his (Completely bare of clothes he does not like clothes) boarding house, his imediate thoughts were of how he would quench his thirst. Ren started on his way down the street, confident nothing could ruin his good mood. Ren spotted a tavern on the coner of his street. There was a sign showed a mug of beer foam running down the shape of the mug, followed by the words "The Midnight Tavern" in bold red letters. Ren walked slowly in through the front doors of the tavern making his way up to the counter. "Could I have a mug of water" Ren said handing the bartender a bronze miza. The bartender bursted out laughing as did the almost all of the other occupants in the bar. " Ye not have the stomach to hold down a glass of ale" he said speaking more to the rest of bar than he was to Ren. The barteder walked into his back room and came out holding a large wooden mug filled with water. Ren took the cup graciously and sat down alone at a table quietly drinking his water.

Moderator's Note: Hey Ren! A few things:

First, per the laws of Syliras, a guy walking around naked would be stopped almost immediately by the Knights and told to put some clothes on. Also, the tavern in this scene has a name, you can't just make up a name of a place. There are very specific locations in Syliras that are open for play. I'd suggest you read the mandatory Rules for Posting on the front page of the Syliras forums before posting in this city.

Also, your character has several posts in several different cities in this season. Please keep travel times in mind - it takes weeks and weeks to travel across the country. Please be aware of where you are and when you're there so you can RP realistically.

As a last note, your CS is impossible to read because of the text color. If you could please adjust that, and include a list of your threads so we don't have to do a search to track them down, I'd appreciate it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
PLEASE NOTE: Finals are over, but summer is eating my soul. As such, as of the end of June I will not be accepting any new quests/modded threads until I finish some of the ones I've already started/agreed to. My apologies for this, but I don't want to be unfair to those who have been waiting for replies!

City Walls (open - Rearing Stallion)

Postby Dimitri on April 3rd, 2011, 6:45 am

Dimitri was becoming a common sight at The Rearing Stallion. He was always there doing some sort of work for them, or for his patron Knight. He used to begrudge doing this sort of work since he was a squire meant to be a Knight, but he was actually learning a lot of useful information. Remi and her husband were growing fond of him and his hard work, they often asked for him even when they didn't need him. Today he was coming in to provide an extra pair of hands for a special meal Remi was cooking for the dinner crowd. When he arrived however the place was swamped so he helped out with delivering food and drinks, bussing tables, and mingling with the customers. He noticed that he got extra attention from the female customers, but it remained strictly a servitude relationship.

Remi finally called him back into the kitchen. As he got back there, he saw a giant, shallow pot sitting on all of the range's burners. In it was water slowly coming to a boil. Remi's husband came into the kitchen with a large sea turtle in his large arms. It's flippers were still flapping, as he set it down on the table on it back. "Good eating tonight." He returned back to the bar and Remi handed Dimitri a large cleaver. "I need you to cut off it's head and quickly deposit the turtle in the vat of ice water next to you on the floor." Dimitri raised the cleaver, and brought it down with a snick as it sliced through it's leathery neck. Blood began to flow as he scrambled to drop it into the ice water, he even threw the head in for good measure. Once the bleeding stopped she had Dimitri change out the bloody water and then made him scrub down the turtle with a brush. When that was done she had him deposit the body and head into the unsalted boiling water on the range. The turtle boiled for about forty chimes until the skin on the head and feet became white and soft. She had him remove the turtle and set it on the counter. She then handed him a knife and told him to help her remove the undershell from the top shell. She then using very good knife skills, cut the flesh from the undershell and set it aside. She had Dimitri remove the feet and begin dicing them up, while she removed the organs. Remi found some eggs inside the now apparant female turtle, set them aside. She then cut out some of the inside meat and the liver. She had Dimitri sprinkle them all with salt and black pepper, then place in a kettle. He then sliced up carrots and onions and put them in the kettle along with a bay leaf and some garlic cloves. They placed the kettle on the range fire and brought it to a boil then covered it. They then drained the water and put all the meat and vegetables in the oven on a tray for about a half bell.

While the meat was in the oven, she had Dimitri seperate the yolks from the whites in the turtle eggs. He then added the whites into a pot of soup stock, along with a lemon rind. He then brought the concoction to a boil then whisked the whole thing together. He simmered for about five chimes, then let it cool for another fifteen chimes. Remi showed him how to strain through a cheesecloth, which he did, albeit a bit messily. They then added the turtle meat and vegetables and reheated the whole concoction. She added some sherry for a finishing touch. The soup was now ready.

Dimitri went out front and announced that sea turtle soup was the house special for the night. He then began bussing tables, taking orders, and chatting with customers when he found himself at a table of a younger looking girl. "And what can I get for you today?" He noticed she was nursing and ale and figured she probably wasn't much of a drinker.

The smell of soup filled the kelvic's nose as people began ordering the curious meal, and vaguly it reminded the young creature of Riverfall. It smelt of the ocean, although the odour would have been oblivious to a normal human's nose. Mostly it would just smell like good soup, made well. Flick's stomach growled. Raising her head from the table, she turned towards a pleasant male voice. Her dark eyes glanced up...and up...at a handsome young man. He was lightly tanned, and his jaw well defined, with golden curls a top an attractive head. What struck the kelvic most were his eyes, blue as a spring morning. Smiling widely, the fox blushed.

"I um...nothing. I'm just..er...waiting for my fr-" The fennec caught herself, old habits rising quickly as she nearly blurted out a lie that she was waiting for her friends. It was time for a new start. Smile fading a little, the girl looked at her ale.

"Maybe a bowl of that soup? It smells really good. Sea turtle, ocean fresh, and the eggs...used for...something? Lucky find to get a turtle with eggs. I think they're all laying this time of the year." Swallowing back the urge to babble on like a dunce, Flick smiled at him again, sitting straighter and pushing her hair behind her ears. She didn't have a lot of coin, but the youth was nice. Seemed nice anyway. And although he was tall and toned, Flick sensed he was closer to her age - well, mentally anyway.

"Thanks." A sudden bout of laughter made her jump, and she looked up to see a man leaving the bar, water in hand. Her eyes saddened and she shook her head.

"People are so mean." She said quietly, watching the man for a moment longer before glancing back at the blue eyed youth with delight, happy to see he was still as nice to look at as before.

Dimitri flashed his dazzling white teeth into a broad, boyish smile at her initial nervousness. This customer didn't seem like the normal type in this tavern. Most of the women who frequented here were both hideous and boring. However this girl...she had a mysterious, undeveloped beauty about her. It was like looking at a lily right before it blooms, hinting at the soon to show magnificence. Her hair while not an uncommon hue, glowing like a rising sun on a clear day. Her dark eyes could hold his gaze until the end of days. Then he heard her say something that broke his gaze.

"You can smell all of that?" He asked genuinely surprised, they hadn't even brought a single bowl out from the kitchen. "Color me impressed. And I don't know about when turtles lay, but I wouldn't mind taking you to the beaches to find ou-" He stopped realizing what he was saying. He blushed slightly, maintained his smile, "So, uh, one soup, made it myself. Uh, I'll be right back with it." He turned on heel quickly to fetch her soup before his mouth went walking without it's leash again.

The young kelvic smiled under his praise, color still in her cheeks. As the young man suddenly spoke about beaches and taking her there, Flick giggled and dropped her gaze. He reminded her of herself, mouth with a mind of its own.

"I would like that. The ah, the soup I mean. But not that beaches sound bad either. I mean...thanks. Soup." Cringing at her stumbled words, the fox laughed weakly as he left to retrieve the soup, glancing up to watch him as he left. The youth disappeared amidst the people and the tables, and with the time she had to spare whilst he was gone, Flick looked herself over and straightened her hair a bit. Catching herself, the kelvic stopped. It was...silly. Of course it was silly. He was probably very well known here, and probably just more interested in customers than herself. Probably the whole lovely smile and almost invite was a normal thing to say.

Still, she stared dreamily at her ale for a moment as she thought of his warm golden curls and intensely blue eyes. A half smile graced her lips and she twirled a lock of hair in her fingers. He was very nice. Maybe she should ask his name? Isn't that what people did in polite conversation?

Shaking herself mentally, the fennec couldn't help but glance around to see if he was coming back yet.

Dimitri walked back into the kitchen, a crimson blush filling face as his smile split it ear to ear. He had never met a girl that was as awkward as he, let alone as pretty as she was. He bent down to a stew pot and checked his hair and face in the metallic reflection. "Aw crap, you've been dumbstruck by a customer haven't you?" Remi asked. He nodded, the goofy grin still adorning his face. "Well get her food ready. Let me spruce you up, you look like a hobo."

She rolled up his sleeves to the elbow showing off his lean, muscular forearms and large hands. She tucked his shirt into his breeches. She then opened one more button in the front of his shirt, allowing a better glance at his young muscular chest. "Hmm that will have to do, you focus on her, one of my boys will take care of the rest. I swear you squires are hopeless sometimes when it comes to romance, all sword no brains. Good luck honey, knock her off her rocker." He smiled and mumbled something of a thank you. He grabbed a bowl of soup for her, and the freshest bread they had. He then walked back out there, trying to tame the invasive smile he was flashing. He arrived at her table and set her food down, "First soup of the day, enjoy." He then stood there uncomfortably for a moment, and blurted out rapidly, "I'mDimitri, what'syourname?"

Scanning the room with hopeful dark eyes, Flick sighed and turned back to the table, tapping her knee nervously. He obviously wouldn't be back in such a short time. There were more people ordering, and of course he would be serving them. Looking at her ale, the fennec trailed a finger on the condesation forming. There was too much noise to hear the you approaching, although she could smell the soup as it came closer. Twisting to see the blonde youth almost at her table, Flick smiled widely and followed the steaming dish with her eyes as it was placed on the table. It looked as good as it smelt. Smiling up at him, she noticed his shirt sat a lot better, revealing more of his muscular tanned frame. The sleeves were rolled up, offering a display of his well developed forearms. The girl blushed again, dragging her eyes from his features. It made it all the more difficult for her to concentrate on proper sentances. Opening her mouth to thank him for the soup, she held her tongue as he blurted out his name and question in one breath. The kelvic giggled a little. It was something she would do.

"Nice to meet you Dimitri. I'm Flick. Well, Felicity actually. Well, my name was Felicity, uh is Felicity...but people just call me Flick. But you can call me whatever you like. I don't mean whatever, but..." Taking a breath, she stopped the endless muddle of words and tried again, lifting a hand to shake his in greeting.

"I'm Flick." Pausing awkwardly, she smiled through her embarassment.

"Do you work here?" Inwardly the girl groaned. Dumbest question ever. Of course he works here! Gods and Goddess...what was the matter with her?!

Dimitri smiled at the stumbling girl. Flick, quite an interesting name. Felicity is quite a pretty name too. She must not be from around here. "Uh... Sort of. I help out around here, I'm a squire, and my uh, patron knight asks me from time to time to help them out. And I'm glad he did, I get to meet a lot of people. Pretty, interesting people with beautiful eyes... I mean! Uh Pretty interesting people. And I like eyes. Especially yours..." He flushed deep red. "Uh, may I have dinner with you? Here?"

He heard a man near him snicker, a customer who was here every night. The man promptly received a flicked ear when Remi walked over. She was carrying soup for the man but put it in front of Dimitri at Flick's table. "Eat up hon, now that you're shift is over." She winked at him and walked away. He stood there a slightly goofy grin adorning his face as he awaited her reply. This was the first time he ever sought a female, most simply came after him, himself being quite reluctant with them. But he didn't want to get his hopes up.
