[The Stone Garden] A Quiet Place (Hadrian)

She nodded politely in response to his information even though she already had a place to stay and certainly wasn't looking for employment. “Thank you.” She frowned, unsure of what else to say, and wondered if this was the end of their awkward meeting. She had probably already taken up too much of his time. Magicians were important people and she couldn't imagine that he had much time to waste of the likes of her, especially if he worked for the knights. That last bit disturbed her a little, and she tucked her hands behind her back. She did wonder why he felt it necessary to tell her where to find him, it was a curious thing to do, but he was probably just being polite. She looked down at her feet, biting her lip and then back up at him. “I should go now and leave you to,” she paused, “whatever you were doing.”

Hadrian, meanwhile, wondered what he was doing wrong. He never seemed to get what he expected out of encounters with other people unless they were ivory tower intellectuals or existed on some similar plane to his own. It seemed now that she had given up on him as well, so he shrugged slightly and stepped back. "As you wish," he said politely. What might pass itself off as aloofness, was, of course, just his innate awkwardness. "Well... All right." He started off on his own since she only continued to stare at him. Apparently he had missed a hint for him to leave her alone.

Airil let him walk away without further comment, wondering if she should have been the one to leave first after the look he had given her. The entire encounter had been strange really. She wasn't sure how to feel about it at all. When she thought about it, she felt worried that perhaps she had offended him, though she wasn't sure what she could have done differently. The fact that she was supposed to be leaving slipped from her mind and she returned to her earlier position, apparently contemplating the stones. However, this time her thoughts were lost on another track, on an awkward encounter with a boy and whether or not she should seek him out in the future.
