Physical Description
Rather tall (6'4") and skinny, whatever athletic skill he might have developed went by the wayside in order that he might study. With chlorine eyes and severe eyebrows, he generally either looks intensely concentrated or off in daydream land thinking about abstract ideas.


Character Concept
The perfect scholar, Hadrian has devoted himself to his studies since his first tutor at age five. As a student at the University of Zeltiva where he has learned something about everything and a great deal about one thing: magic. Though his parents would prefer he study trade to take up a position in his father's little empire, they have given up on him in the main as their eccentric son, preferring to focus time and energy on his siblings. Whether the pursuit of arcane knowledge will ultimately take him into the light or the darkness is anyone's guess, but he does have a penchant for looking at things amorally, which may cause him some trouble.


Character History
Hadrian Aelius was born to Trajan, a merchant prince, and Plotina, whose dowry helped raise the capital that catapulted Trajan's fortunes into entirely new realms. They had many children and Hadrian, the sixth of seven, turned out to be the black sheep. He grew up in Syliras, taught by the best tutors money could buy.

Initially, he endeared himself to his father by asking to hear stories from his travels around the continent. His constant litany of 'why' seemed encouraging. When he was old enough, he was allowed to travel with his father or his eldest brother, tutor and all, and so he also became well traveled at a relatively young age. Being amiable enough, his siblings liked him, and his mother liked having him on hand for guests as well, who complimented her on her son's bright eyes -- another of her gifts to the family.

At eighteen, he was enrolled at the University of Zeltiva, but he was not long satisfied with the liberal arts, and the systems of trade began to bore him. After all, what more could they teach him that he had not already observed from his father, a master tradesman, his mother, an old hat at manipulation, and the various employees of his father, both family and not, who were all more than good at what they did?

His parents did begin to protest when his studies began to zero in on magic. While Trajan was a faithful devotee of Xyna and Laat, and Plotina lit candles in various shrines for the continued abundance in their family, they were both uncomfortable with what they considered an unhealthy fascination with the workings of Djed, which was most assuredly not to be desired in a scion of their merchant house.

Ultimately, he was allowed his head in the matter. They figured he would grow out of it or help them open new markets for alchemical reagents at best or at least become a respected academic that they could mention with pride to other families of their station and above. After all, education was most often a trapping of the wealthy and noble classes.

Trajan AeliusImage

Paterfamilias and merchant prince, he works closely with the Order of the Knights of Syliras and travels far and wide. He claims Bracklin blood in his ancestry, and with his youngest son's squiring, he is pleased to have a formal link with the powers that be.


Plotina AeliaImage

Née Trema, Plotina was a devout attendee of the Temple of All Gods, and the conduit through which blood from the Iceglaze Hold and Victor Zevkan flows into her children. She died in the Summer of 510 A.V., not living to see through her goal of marrying off all seven of her children.


Trajan II AeliusImage

Also known as Junior, though he detests the moniker, he was the first taken under his father and namesake's wing, most likely to inherit the bulk of his father's economic network. Brilliant with people, he can charm the birds out of the trees.


Calix AeliusImage

Another cog in the Aelius machine, Calix tries not to be completely outshone by his elder brother, nor shown up by the younger ones. He is grateful that Hadrian and Verus chose another path, making less competition for him to monitor.


Vipsania WindmountImage

Married to Ulliver Windmount, her marriage at the very least assures her father the best deals on horseflesh both to sell abroad and to haul the heavy drays of merchandise from Syliras to points distant. She is happily attending to hearth and home, making babies, and supporting her husband's career. She might be smarter than he is.


Cinna AeliusImage

The youngest of the Aelius brothers to follow in his father's footsteps, Cinna would rather be making music, but his father would brook no dilettantes in the family. He admires Hadrian for making a stand against their father's wishes and sticking to it, but he would never admit it.


Lucia AeliaImage

She managed to evade suitors to the end, mainly by threatening to go peddle what Nikali gave her in the Golden Dragon. Still, though deceptively dainty for a tomboy, she's probably the toughest of her siblings, yet she was the most constant nursemaid during her mother's protracted illness. She can still be a bitch.

The black sheep. The most independent of his generation. He wanders now, but wonders if his father would attempt to tie him down if he learned how much money could be made off of his enchantments. Time will tell. If he doesn't go completely mental. Or is it too late...?


Verus AeliusImage

The baby of the family became the squire of Ser Evander Marster. He will ensure the continuing link between his family's business concerns and the Order of the Knights of Syliras, though even he has no idea just how far in cahoots Hadrian has been with people as powerful as Loren Dyres himself.
