I love you Katie. Don't ever let go of that - writing isn't worth doing if you don't get enjoyment from it :)

Rather than actually answer the thought-provoking questions at the end of your wonderful post, I'm going to share this instead.
Oh, sure, for a minute when I was six I wanted to be a ballerina kitten (possibly a hognose snake) ...

Seriously, though, I understand exactly what you mean about writing for your own joy. Achieving professional success as a writer or artist is one kind of fulfillment, but there's another kind that comes from doing creative work that isn't bound by someone else's demands. Obligation can be a real fun-killer, even when the work is otherwise enjoyable.

Alternately-put: don't give up Miz, or everyone will cry! ;)

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others."

"Actually I harness myself to the yoke of work--each time--with despair; when I conclude it and again have to face that life full of toil and unspeakable strain, when I immerse myself in the world of fantasy to make up for the abnegations suffered in this world--then I demand support. I cannot then live like a dog, sleep on straw, and drink stale swill: then I must feel uplifted in spirit, must feel myself affirmed and stilled on all sides--if indeed I am to succeed in the superhumanly difficult task of creating a world that does not exist..."

[Caelum's Scrapbook] Use Your Words.

A friend g-chatted me talking about bringing the stuff to make hurricanes to the party at my house tonight . He asked whether or not we already had a king cake.

Notably, I was not aware I was having a party. I caved, however.

My friends are clearly devious, partially catholic and drunks.

It led to the following conversation:

me: hrm. since when was I making a king cake tonight? Or having a party? My friends are in alliance against me.

Friend 2: oh jesus.

me: srsly. oh god. hurricanes. I'm fucked.

Friend 2: I can't, dude. I just can't during the week anymore, at all. maybe a few beers after work, but that's it. so. good luck lol

me: yeah. me.. either. crap.

Friend 2: lol call out tomorrow.

me: I caaaaan't. I'm training this girl. deadlines. I'm gonna have to limit my hurricanes.

Friend 2: HAHAHA

me: and ignore people at my house when its my bedtime. SHUT UP. I need support, damnit.

Friend 2: HAHAHAHA

And I wonder why I can’t ever catch anything up.

Curt Katie is curt.

Friends, Mizaharians, countrymen.

I’m dealing with an amplified amount of RL stress these days and the unfortunate result seems to be me coming across as curt or upset to people in Mizahar. I have a bad habit of getting brief when wound up and it is rarely due to upset at the person with whom I’m speaking.

A handful of people have shot puppy dog eyes at me or smacked me upside the head this past week because they thought I was mad at them.

Have no fear. I’m not mad at you. If I was mad at you, I would let you know. I never have had a problem doing that as many can attest.

In return for your incredible patience, I offer my gratitude and a more focused attempt at not being a tool all the time.

Continue with the awesome.

Thanks,
k.

I love the kitty!

Shameless plug.

I mentioned this before, but the advance copy came in and I'm incredibly happy for my friend. The release date is March 26th, but you can pre-order here on Amazon or Barnes & Noble has it. Overstock.com, Arcadia, Books A Million and a few others I can't recall off the top of my head.

This is his first book. If you're a history nerd, a baseball fan or love photography and the South, check it out.
