Family situation has come up unexpectedly and as a result I need to go out of town this weekend. I’ll be leaving right after work today and hope to be back before work on Monday, but I don’t really know yet. I’ll have my magic phone with me which will let me read stuff and check PMs, emails, et cetera if there’s anything someone needs an immediate answer on. If it’s not important, I’m not ignoring you. I just have to prioritize right now.

Thanks for understanding. One day, when the stars are aligned, I’ll catch up on everything.

I leave you with two vastly different songs, both of which are helping me out today. The first reminds me of home (Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show), the other of hope (Shake It Out by Florence + the Machine).

An associate just slid a sign on my desk. It reads:

Instant Nice Person
(just add coffee)

Hm.

I am choosing to look at this from the half-full angle. I consume a great deal of coffee, so I must be nice an awful lot of the time.

For the record, I’m snickering at myself right now. “Kate, you’re so lame. MOAR COFFEE.”

For the record, I don't speak to you until you've at least poured yourself a cup of coffee. The anticipation makes you nicer.

That’s fair. I can totally be nice when salvation is at hand. The real trouble comes into play when some fool or another is attempting to make me think before coffee.

This really happened, but don’t try it at home.

“Kate, what time are we leaving?”

Silence.

“What time are we leaving?”

Shrug.

“We should leave in an hour.”

Mumble.

“If we don’t leave in an hour we’re going to get caught in rush hour.”

No comment.

“So an hour. Alright? Are you packed yet?”

Stare.

“I give up.”

Throws sugar spoon. Picks up coffee at last. Walks out.
