Scowling mentally, he mounted the horse, and followed Weyliss. Xinal, seemingly sensing the tension in the air, behaved himself.

He didn't like this. Not one bit. First of all, there was Jason. The bastard was too damn smug. And if he had just wanted one person, he wouldn't have put up so many damn fliers. Either this man was up to something, or he was a brainless coward.

Then there was the cave. He knew nothing of magic, but it seemed suspicious. Did that mean that everytime an animal brushed against it, it would glow green? Or was that specific for humanoid creatures?

And his "companions". He trusted each of them as far a he could throw them. That is to say, not at all. The tension was so thick, you could cut it with a fang.

No. He didn't like this. Not at all.

[Adventure] Let's Make a Deal [Zefiel, Jaq, Weyliss, Sasin]

Postby Jaquise Emittere on May 2nd, 2010, 1:48 am

As the group moved in the directions given too them by their employer Jaq thought about a few things. The first was that was it rather amusing that the group as whole was one of the things that made this job so dangerous. Each one of them might just stab the other in the back just to get all of the money. Even though he wasn't the type to do any sort of backstabbing, Jaq was surprised to find himself evaluating each and every one of the group, judging how much of a threat each one of them was to him.

The tallest one, the Akalak called Z, was a dangerous to be sure and merited a look from Jaq's good eye every few seconds. His pets merited a look themselves. Together with his dogs, the tall blue guy was definitely a major threat. The short one in all black, Sasin, reminded Jaq of several people he had met who fell 'short' in his line of work. However his amusement over the man's height was the only thing that kept him smiling when it came to the short one. He seemed cold, and something familiar about him made Jaq's scar's ache like they did when bad weather was just over the hills. Then there was the last of the group, who didn't even seem to belong here. It was plain to see Weyliss didn't believe in the treasure. Despite Jaq's wanting to write him off as a non-threat kinda person, his built body suggested a great deal of strength.

The odd mix of people that made up this group wasn't the only thing that made this group dangerous though. Their employer Jason was surely hiding something. He evaded questions better then a fox could evade hunting hounds, and he made it look like he was offering all he knew each time he did so. Even as he made it seem that the hounds were catching up to him, giving them glimpses of the truth the fact remained the same. He was truly leading them to a pit where he had led so many others to death.

Then there was the magic. Considering what he had been taught as a child there was great deal to worry about here. It sounded like the magic being spoken of might be a powerful golem. The magic that brought golem's to life had the potential to create skilled, intelligent, tireless warriors made out of woods and metal. If the animator so chose they could make them without fear, with only the driving goal they were made with at their conception to occupy their thoughts. Perhaps even driven mad by years of solitude, whatever guards that protected the cave would be something to avoid.

With thoughts on the dangers of their mission occupying his thoughts, Jaq almost didn't notice as the group came to the river bed. When they reached it they would have to begin searching for a cave that glowed green upon being touched. Oh joy. If Jaq was right about the magic the group would need to work together once they found the cave, without the fear of a blade between their shoulders courtesy of one of the others nagging at them from the back of their heads. Speaking clearly enough so the whole group could hear him while keeping his carefree demeanor, Jaq said, "The tension in this group so thick I might actually be able to cut it with one of the many blades available. Perhaps one should be less worried about the possibility of betrayal from within the group and more worried about what pitfall that cowardly cunning fox Jason is leading us to. He mentioned that magic guarded the cave, and that perhaps the cave itself was magic. I've run down my fair share of nutty magic men doing some bad deeds and I can tell the lot of you magic can be quite dangerous to tangle with." In truth Jaq had only known a few other magician's, and none of them had been running rampant as he had said. But he did know how few limits there were to skilled wizards. "Perhaps it be best that until we get the treasure we put our plotting ways aside, lest none of us survive the dangers the cave might present. What do you say?"

[Adventure] Let's Make a Deal [Zefiel, Jaq, Weyliss, Sasin]

The Akalak followed the other three members, with his dog right next to him, and his horse coming up behind him. As the horse came up even with him, the assassin slid into the saddle, making sure to keep close enough to hear the others talk, but not too close. He ignored the man who had "claimed" any half-naked girls, and instead focused on the man with one eye. He seemed to know what he was doing, and didn't strike the assassin as a fool. "If there's magic involved, perhaps we should have brought a magic user," he replied, his hands tightening on the reins. When the man mentioned plots, the Akalak grinned. "Alright. We can kill each other after we get done with the cowardly mans job. Everyone agree with that?"

Glancing down at his dog, he clicked his tongue, causing the animal to merge into the shadows, keeping an eye on the group, but hiding while he did so. Turning away from the spot the dog had been in, the Akalak urged his horse to catch up to the others, as he had fallen behind a bit. Catching up to them, the assassin looked at each of them in turn, to see what they carried with them, as, when they had first met, he had not been looking at them.

[Adventure] Let's Make a Deal [Zefiel, Jaq, Weyliss, Sasin]

Postby Weyliss on May 2nd, 2010, 9:23 pm

Weyliss didn't bother looking back, instead continuing forward. He wasn't too worried about anything. The more he thought, the more he realized how pointless it was. The magic may or may not be there, would it stop any of them? Would it deter them to the point of returning to Syliras and getting some form of magical protection? Hardly. He also wasn't entirely too worried about his companions the more he walked. Sure, they looked dangerous, but if they where getting this antsy... in fact, with each passing word, Weyliss was starting to doubt any of them had been doing this for very long. It went without saying. A merc's code. Odds where, that they would see each other again down the road, them all working in the same field. It wouldn't make sense to fight. Not over some petty coin. In fact, they sounded like old women, worrying about this, trying to prevent that.

No, these men wern't top of the line, and Weyliss was hardly worried. Still, he kept a serene smile on, and offered a grunt in response to the offered truce.

((Okay, I guess you guys are self modding it then... I also suppose I am no longer an AS, so when it's done you'll need another storyteller to award XP. I think.))

[Adventure] Let's Make a Deal [Zefiel, Jaq, Weyliss, Sasin]

The tension hadn't been completely lifted at Jaq's word, but it seemed to have eased somewhat. That was good news as the party had just reached the lake bed where they would begin there search. Jaq supposed the simplest way was to just walk around the lake in search of any caves, and see if they glowed upon being touched. Or perhaps they'd get lucky and a bird would land on the cave floor and set it off, giving them a beacon of green light to follow. Jaq smiled, amused at his joke, as he began walking around the lake. Whatever happened, Jaq enjoyed the fact that he could still make jokes.
