Pink Hair, Green Thumbs, and Brown Soil (Nai'a)

Leila now looked down at the bed, after Nai'a had cleared the rest of the shallow weeds. The leveling would be quite easy, she mainly needed to fill in the large hole. She knelt down next to the hole, careful to not smush her dress in the dirt. She began to push the dirt they'd both piled up into the hole, careful to not pack it too tight. She knew plants preferred looser soil for their roots to grow deeper. As she put the dirt in, she tapped it with the flat of her hand spade, until it was level with the surrounding dirt. She continued this process with the smaller divots, dips, and holes, getting the bed leveled to just below the edges of the bed. She smoothed it out with her spade as a baker might spread icing onto a cake, slowly, deftly, smoothly.

She went over to the keep pile, and picked up the Common Milkweed gingerly. She stood over the bed, contemplating where to put it, for she knew it would spread rather quickly, and would bring about a bunch of the life giving butterflies. She settled on the middle, placing it atop the dirt, looking at it again, then adjusting it until it was perfectly centered. She wouldn't make any final decisions, so that Nai'a could have some input, but it was a start. She went over to the pile and grabbed the Glory-of-the-Snow. It was a shorter plant and wouldn't grow real tall, so she placed it down in the front of the bed, so it wouldn't become overpowered. Then she began grabbing the bulbs and dotted them up both sides, starting from about the mid, then continuing the line across the back. They would stand taller, and it would make a nice pretty border. She stepped back, admired her layout, then looked over to her companion, "What do you think?"

Pink Hair, Green Thumbs, and Brown Soil (Nai'a)

Nai’a helped the woman fill in the hole, happy that they were almost done with the dirt digging, and a bout to start planting the flowers back into the bed. Which was her favorite part of gardening really, was planting. She watched as the woman smoothed out the rest of the bed with her spade, swirling it around on the top, keeping the soil soft and loose, that way the plants could take root and grow easier and faster in the fertile soil.

When the bed was smoothed out and was ready for planting, she watched as the woman planted the milkweed in the middle of the bed. Nai’a nodded her head, which was a good placement to the Healer. The Milkweed would be able to spread out from there. Nai’a was not sure, but she vaguely remembered that the weed plant was a butterfly attractor. Which would help bring more life to the flowers around it. Nai’a followed Leila’s lead, and helped her plant the remaining flowers in the bed, in places that they would flourish and also look decorative.

Nai’a leaned back, rubbing her hands together to rid it of the soil that had clung to them, and looked over at Leila with a smile, ”I think we did a great job.” Nai’a said in a pleasant voice and stood up, brushing off dirt from her person and looking over the flower bed proudly. The two women had done great working together as a team, bringing life back to the bed that seemed near death. It looked befitting of Rak’Keli now, and when more flowers were added to it, it would look even better.

”So, where did you learn gardening?” Nai’a asked out of curiosity. The Healer had to know things about plants with herbalism, or else it would be pointless. So her gardening experience came from her knowledge and classes of Herbalism.

Due to college I will not be as active as I was. Sorry, but do not give up on me :)! I will reply ASAP

Pink Hair, Green Thumbs, and Brown Soil (Nai'a)

Postby Leila on April 16th, 2013, 1:17 am

Sweaty, tired, but satisfied, Leila sat back on her feet, looking over at her pink haired friend, their work complete, "My papa taught me. A long time ago he had an herbalism shop here in town but... it failed. It took a really big toll on him, but he managed to keep his dream alive by teaching me in our little backyard. And now the Lord of Council is giving me a loan to open my own shop, Leila's Soothing Salves and Clinic, surprisingly close to here. Maybe I can do it right. They are building it soon, should be done come summer."

Leila stood up, and grabbed the entire 'get rid of' pile, and took it over to the nearby tree line. She spaced each on out over there, giving each of them a chance at surviving, even if they were considered weeds. Plants were like people, none were fully bad, if given the right opportunity. All things have some good in them, or at least the potential for it. She returned over to her companion and began gathering up her tools, "Hey, if you're ever interested in cleaning up some of these other gardens, or just want to chat, stop by World's Inn Grotto. I tend bar there, until my shop opens, and it's so lovely meeting someone who loves gardening as much as myself. Oh! I almost forgot! Summer first, is my grand opening, complete with a potluck dinner, so if you can, you should try and stop by."

All packed up now, she looked around, making sure everything appeared to be in order, and like her father had taught, stuck out a polite hand for a shake, "It was my pleasure to meet you Nai'a. But it's about time for Shaco's dinner. Thank you for all your help, and I hope to see you again. Don't be a stranger, I don't have many pink haired friends."

OOCThis seems like a good place to end, so I'm going to go ahead and turn it in. Would you like to do another? If so, PM me please. :D
