A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

Clyde did enjoy Glyphing. It was one magic he felt calmed while doing. Reimancy was far to serious a magic, he had to focus to much, which tended to stress him out and put knots in his back, even when all went perfectly.

Glyphing on the other hand... By itself, it did nothing, which meant he had no worry of it exploding or injuring or anything, as long as he was only doing Glyphing. It was only when he used it with other skills, that things got tricky. Eventually of course, he did put other magics into his glyphs. But he did not have to, and could always start over and redo something should he mess up, with no ill effect. Plus he really enjoyed getting inventive and thinking of new ways to do it, new triggers which he was getting ever more creative with.

So after being directed here from the spot, he now was at the Healing Hand. And thankfully unlike the last time he had been here, he was not injured. Instead, he was here to do his favorite magic. Walking in the door, he greeted them, and asked a question.

"Hello, I was told you needed some Glyph work, for some scrolls to be made. I am here to do it. Do you have a specific area for me to work?"

Update 6/2/18- 1:10AM EST: His 7 year plan a success, and several weeks ahead of schedule, Clyde leaves to oversee the world he has taken over.

No new threads after end of Spring 518-Will still be checking for PM's occasionally, but focusing on a new character.

[The Healing Hand]Glyphwork on the Side

Postby Clyde Sullins on April 27th, 2013, 11:25 pm

One of the workers simply pointed Clyde to a back room, that is after a guard checked his papers to make sure he was in fact a citizen. His Ebonstryfe apprentice badge worked fine enough, and the guard nodded to the worker, who then directed Clyde.

He walked to the back of the room and through another, till he saw the door the man had pointed at. Inside, he saw what must be an office for paperwork. It was stacked full of parchments, ink vials empty and full, and fresh quills in a neat stack.

And all along the back wall, were cabinets and shelving holding paper after paper after paper, of who knew what. He supposed that they did have to write a decent bit down, after all with all the people that cam in on a daily basis with injuries.

Clyde simply settled himself into a chair, pulled over a stack of fresh parchement, along with a full vial of ink, and a quill, and spread out a single paper in front of him.

Then he began to think on the design of the scroll, and the easiest way to do this.

It would not be overly complicated, it was only a simple scroll, a focus, barrier, and a trigger to release it. And they wold all be the same. Which meant the best way to do it, was to fill out each scroll in parts, doing all of the focus on all ten scrolls first, then all ten barriers, and so on till they were all done.

That decided, he thought for a moment, on how to make the focus appear.

After a few moments, he wet his quill, and scratched out the first focus. He drew it as a circle, with a line drawn down the middle, with the line completely inside the circle and coming to the edge. Then he drew a line coming out of each of the sides, were if he had drawn a second line also bisecting the circle and making a cross, only drawing past the edge, these would be the lines coming out.

The symmetry of it made him smile. It also looked interesting, almost like he had drawn the second line, but it was invisible were it was inside of the circle, but visible outside.

The first one done, he pushed it aside, and began to draw an identical focus on each of the other nine scrolls.

For awhile all that could be heard was the scratch of the quill, as Clyde did his Glyphing. By the time he got to the 5th such scroll, he could do the entire focus in four quick scratches. One for the circle, and a second for the line that bisected it. And then two quick scratches for the two lines shooting off of either side of the circle. He pulled another parchment to him, and quickly scratched out the focus, and realized he had done the tenth one. He was done with that step.

Next up, was the barrier. It would likewise be done one after another. But how should he shape it? How should he do it? It would need to encircle his focus, but how should he make it? Something simple, that could be repeated with a minimum of work. It was not exactly like he was holding strong magic inside of the scroll, so a simple barrier would serve the purpose he needed.

He thought for a moment of the wavy line he usually drew around his normal focus, depicting the black sun, or at least a crude example of it. Such a wavy line, was simply enough, and when drawn it could easily encapsulate the focus.

So ready for the next step, he took the quill and refilled it, and set out for the barrier.

He drew a curvy waved line all the way around the focus, which took longer than a normal circle, but not much more time than the prior focus. Once done, he looked at it for a moment, and then pulled it to the side, and set off doing all ten of the scrolls with a similar barrier glyph curving around it.

[The Healing Hand]Glyphwork on the Side

As he finished the last scroll's barrier, he smiled down at it. The last little bit was the trickiest part, he saw in hindsight. Drawing the loopy curved line around the barrier was simple, but getting the two ends to match up, from were he started to were he ended at the same spot, was the trickiest.

A small smile was coming over his face, as he did his work. He certainly did enjoy Glyphing. He never smiled like this when doing Reimancy... Well no, that was not entirely true. But then, that was not the same kind of a smile. In that case, it was from the arcane pleasure derived from using djed.

This though was a mundane kind of pleasure, and so non addictive. Or at least, not dangerous if it was addictive. Using his djed though, gave him a dangerous kind of pleasure, which simply left him with a hollow spot, wanting more. This did not do that.

His final bit of his task, was the trigger. Now, he tended to use the same trigger, more or less, for all of his works. A triangle, sticking out of the barrier, with one of the corners of it touching the barrier to be dropped. It was the wording he needed to think on.

He went through several different iterations, but none seemed right. So he instead broke it down, to think what was the desired task of the trigger.

Simple enough, its job was to release the magic. But when? When the need was desired of it... So when someone with need to use it, touched the focus. But anyone with need to use it? Perhaps not... Perhaps... Only someone with a need to use it, and also the permission to do so.

Smiling at his inventiveness, and his use of wording to get the desired effects, he began to write out the first trigger. A triangle, and then the way to activate the trigger.

"When someone with both a need to use the scroll, and permission to use it, touches the focus of the scroll, deactivate the barrier and release the magic held within."

Smiling, he began work, and wrote out the same trigger on each of the scrolls.

As he finished the last of the triggers, he got up from his seat. Heading out the door, he smiled, and talked to one of the workers.

"I am done. I now need the healer to infuse the scrolls with their gnosis, and my task will be complete."

Clyde had to wait a chime, but finally a healer came into the room, and went over to his scrolls. She opened one, and looked over it once, scanning it, and focusing for a moment on the trigger. She took a moment to look back at Clyde, before shrugging, turning back to the scroll.

This left Clyde unsure if she was surprised as she thought the trigger was bad, or much better than the ones normally done by their normal Glypher. He was going to lean towards the second, as he doubted a Glypher working at such a place as this could be that highly skilled, not as highly skilled as himself. And he doubted a lesser Glypher, could have managed such tough wording on a scroll if they wanted it to function and not fail.

One by one she touched the focus, and infused the scrolls with her gnosis magic.

Once it was done, she thanked Clyde, and headed back out the door. Clyde followed, pausing for a moment outside.

Already he was done, which made him a bit sad. He had so enjoyed the Glyphing, and had gotten a good chance to be inventive with his wording, something he rarely got to do. But with a sigh, he realized he was done, and there was nothing more to it. So he left, to go back to the Spot and be paid.
