Big Fish, Little Fish (Ethen)

Season of Spring, Day 67, AV 153

Jantys adjusted his shoulder paldron for the fifteenth time, grumbling very quietly under his breath. No matter how many times he wore the armor, or how long he wore it, the petching thing was always uncomfortable. Of course, Jantys just barely fit properly in the armor as it was, so that was probably part of it, but it didn't stop him from cursing the armor, its maker, the Knights, and everything under the sun for the mild irritation it was giving his shoulder.

All that was done quietly, however. He was on duty, which actually meant something apparently, and he had a partner this time. This was Jantys' first patrol, although it didn't sound too hard; walk around and make sure there isn't any trouble. He just wished he had a slacker as his patrolman partner; then there would be no chance of actually finding any trouble worth investigating.

Sighing a little, his gaze wanders over the bazaar stalls and the crowds, looking for anything unusual to ignore and promptly forget about. He tried imitating an imposing stance he had seen a knight use, with a hand on his handle and eyes all squinted, but he felt a bit foolish like that, not that that wasn't a common occurance. He leans over a bit to say something to his partner over the loud marketplace. "See anything yet?"

Big Fish, Little Fish (Ethen)

Lyrri found herself sitting on a crate in the depths of the Bazaar, flute in hand, cheerfully taking in the loud din of the place; few would hear her music here, but did that mean she couldn't practice in an interesting place? She smiled as the melody echoed in her ears, just loud enough to mix with the many sounds of shopkeepers and shoppers alike and give her her own personal concert.

I really should buy some food while I'm down here... She stopped playing and began to lower her instrument, before shaking her head and lifting it back up with a grin. That's far too boring to take care of now!

As her fingers slid into place along the flute, she paused to notice two knights walking proudly down the street. The one on the left was fidgeting awkwardly; Lyrri didn't have to be from Syliras to see that the man hadn't done this much. He grumbled for a bit before saying something to his partner. The Vantha smiled with flashing green eyes. Well, aren't those some interesting characters!

Big Fish, Little Fish (Ethen)

Postby Ethen Calden on June 1st, 2013, 5:11 pm

Ethen Calden loved every moment of his first patrol. It was his partner the got Ethen's mood on edge. "This man reminded me a lot of my brother Jasper and he wasn't the model citizen himself" Ethen thought with weary eyes on the follow patrolman. Ethen look around the bazaar looking for anything out of place. The place had the harssle and bustle of shoppers and stand and store owners.

In the the distance a woman was playing a flute which amused Ethen. "I hope the gods can give you a better and more quiet place to have her play" Ethen thought with a grin. "See anything yet?" The patrolman partner asked. "I can't see any thing but if there any shady doings they wouldn't be on the open like this. We need to go somewhere quiet and doesn't attract any attention" Ethen replied loudly over the crowd to the patrolman.

Big Fish, Little Fish (Ethen)

Yeah, so we can get mugged or something? He opened his mouth to deliver this biting retort, but had to remind himself, for the hundredth time, that he was a squire, with full armor and a blade at his side. They wouldn't get mugged, they could stop a mugging.

Jantys wasn't too thrilled about that, but he found, to his surprise, that he wasn't quite as reluctant as he thought he might be. Somewhere quiet would be better than the main bazaar, and it didn't sound too dangerous, looking for trouble in the back streets. This was Syliras, after all, not Sunberth. We're two big fish in a bigger pond, and we... His eyes widen slightly, realizing something he had never realized before. And we OWN this city.

Jantys shrugs in response to Ethen. "Whatever you want to do, I guess. I'll tag along, partner." His voice was still decidedly negative and monotone, but on the inside, Jantys was still a bit excited about his 'discovery'. People don't screw with Syliran knights, do they? I never did, that's for damn sure.

As he waits for Ethen's next move, he catches a smidgen of flute music, unconsciously listening to it while doing everything else. Buskers and other musicians were common on the streets of Syliras, and since Jantys had also, until very recently, been common on the streets for an entirely different reason, he was too used to the occasional tune to comment on it now.

Lyrri grinned and looked about with a sudden flash of energy. Couldn't hurt to do a little performing today, now could it? She hadn't told a good story since she had arrived in Syliras; that simply wouldn't do!

Summoning a bout of enthusiasm and cheer, the entertainer leaped to stand on the crate where she had been so peacefully situated. "Gather round, friends and neighbors, for I have a lovely tale to spin!" Her jovial tune picked up the pace, grew louder so as to soak into the stone and catch the ears of each hurrying passerby. Her fingers, however inexperienced, moved as fast as they could in a bouncing, dancing, wandering melody. She continued this way until she felt she had turned enough heads to begin her story, eventually letting the music slow and fade. She hopped back to the ground and looked at each Sylirian with pools of smiling violet in her eyes. "In a fearsome keep with old grey stones, two squires strolled about the town. One was young and one was old; one was up and one was down!" Always up for a 'creative exercise,' the young Vantha began a story to accompany the two men patrolling the Great Bazaar. "They wandered down a quiet road, and saw a most peculiar sight! The one fell ill and turned about, the eldest nearly died of fright!" The flute accompanied her with each punctuated remark; a short tune would carry the tale along before she would go back to the imagined events as they played out in her mind. This will be a fun day, won't it?

Big Fish, Little Fish (Ethen)

Postby Ethen Calden on June 14th, 2013, 8:20 am

Ethen started walking towards to the back streets looking backwards to see if he followed by Jantys or anyone else. "So Jantys how did you get into squirehood?" Ethen asked. "I joined after being a page for one of the founders knight families." Ethen finally found the entrance to the alleyway. "Age before beauty" Ethen said to the older man pointing to the the dark entrance.
