Hunting Encounter

Breath in.
Roderick let go of the string and the arrow went through the air with a swish and thudded into 2nd ring of the target. I seem to be getting better, at least, he thought as he notched another arrow. He blow air out through his nose, then took a deep breath through his mouth and drew back the string. He held it for only a moment while he aimed, then let it go as his muscles began to strain.

The bow he was using had cost a lot of money, so he figured he had better know how to use it. When his arrow landed just above where his first had hit, he decided he was improving, albeit slowly. He glanced up at the sun and was surprised to see how much it had moved. He'd lost track of time while he was training. He rotated his shoulders to ease the pain in the joints and then notched another arrow to the string. He was bringing it up to fire when something rustled off to his left.

The heat.
The sun was being particularly harsh on the city of Syliras today, yet people continued their hustle and bustle, hard at work even with the risk of sun stroke looming above. Every now and then there was a soothing breeze although it never penetrated the city walls and Raven had figured this, so once again she was headed towards the woods in seek of a cool breeze.

The dark haired girl stepped calmly through the forest, lost in thought, her deep red lips curved into a playful smirk and her amber eyes not really focused on anything. Every once in a while she'd passed through a large shadow, almost disappearing in it, due to her all black tight leather attire consisting of boots, pants and a corset. "Akajia's realm is especially cool today." she said to herself noticing the icy cold she felt each time she passed through a patch of shadows.

Raven hadn't made any plans today and that's why she was headed towards the clearing, her(self-proclaimed) clearing, in hopes that either Aoren, Wade or Savio would be there. "Aoren is probably off somewhere with Ileera and who knows what Wade and Savio are up to. she told herself, trying to convince herself they wouldn't be in the clearing although, ofcourse, she was hoping they would be.

THUD!
Raven's head turned instantly in the direction the sound had come from, it sounded like someone or something(hopefully not) was nearby. Someone in the middle of the forest, doing what?(hypocrisy)...That was all it took for Raven's curiosity to ignite and once it was ignited there was only one way to extinguish it, investigation.

Legs bent putting Raven's lithe form into a crouching position as she switched to stealth mode, slowly creepy forward towards the source of the noise. Everytime she came by a tree trunk or large shadow she quickly melded into it against it in her attempt to remain undetected. As she stalked cautiously closer Raven made sure to watch her footing, lest she stand on a fallen branch and blow her cover.

Eventually she arrived behind a large cluster of thick bushes taking cover behind it as her amber eyes attempted to see through the green leaves to examine the happenings on the opposite side. Unfortunately for Raven she accidentally leaned a bit too close, her arm catching a few of the leaves and causing them to rustle a bit too loudly to be considered 'just the wind'.

She winced as the sound reached her ears, mentally scolding herself for her mistake. Amber eyes opened wide as once again they tried to penetrate the cover of the bushes in order to see whether whoever, or whatever was on the other side had been alerted by her careless slip up.

Roderick lowered his bow slightly but kept it at the ready, tilting his head to the side so he could listen. Up until now he'd not heard anything strange; nothing but the sounds of the woods, which he was used to. If there was anything moving about he would have heard it - wouldn't he? Yeah, he thought I'm being jumpy. It's probably just the wind he reassured himself. He drew back the string and aimed, then loosed his arrow at the target.
Thud!
He smiled as it his even closer to the bullseye than his second arrow. It'd be a long time before he would be able to perfect his shots, but he was glad to see himself improving.
He scratched at his neck and peered up at the sun again. The sun and his practice and made him sweat so he'd stripped to the waist a while ago. At this rate he'd be burned red raw. He scratched at his head and then went to notch another arrow before he remembered the sound he'd heard. I better make sure nothing's there. He listened for any sounds of movement.

Try as she may Raven couldn't see through the thick brush, at least not at this end, perhaps she could find a place were the bushes were thinner and easier for her vision to penetrate.

Slowly she snuck towards a nearby tree trunk hoping to take a peak around the other side of it, since the bush blocked the side she was in. She pressed her body against the trunk gently as she began to lean to the side, amber eyes wide in anticipation of who or what she might see.

THUD!
Raven only barely managed to stifle a gasp at being caught off guard by the loud sound, she instinctively starting moving away from the tree, back in the direction she came. Unfortunately for Raven she was in too much of a hurry and too careless to notice she was moving straight for the bushes, her vision focused behind her until it was to late.

There was a loud rustling as the bushes shook angrily from the collision, Raven hadn't exactly walked into them, she had just brushed along it's length. The bushes visibly showed her movements as the leaves all shook in a moving wave form, showing the direction that her concealed form was moving.

Two strikes! Raven was ashamed of herself for such poor behaviour, how was she going to become a catburglar if she fumbled about at the first sound of an arrow hitting a nearby tree? But that wasn't the problem now.

Hunting Encounter

When the bushes rustled for a second time, he turned around and glared into the strands.
"Come out!" he demanded, firing a warning shot into the bushes. There was the sound of it entering, followed by a little rustling in the bush, but no shouts of pain, so he assumed he must have missed. He notched another arrow and took a step forward. The leaves crunched under his boots and his heart thudded against his ribs. If I look in there and it's just a rabbit, I'll ring its bloody neck. He forced himself to take a deep breath to calm his heartbeat.

Raven was just beginning to think she was safe, perhaps whoever was on the other side of those bushes was deaf, or maybe she was just lucky. She let out an inaudible sigh of relief, but it had been just a little too soon.

"Come out!"
She barely had a second to dive for the ground after she heard the voice, she had heard the familiar sound of something flying through the air and jumped for it. While she was still in the air she heard the bushes rustle and the arrow whizz by only a foot behind her before she landed with a soft grunt a and a roll and getting back into a cautious stance. She was crouched low, arms raised in preparation, her leg muscles tensing slightly, ready to move on a moments notice.

Raven considered responding to the voice but immediately decided against it, the man(since it had been a man's voice) may have shouted before firing, but only barely, had she stayed and surrendered she would be impaled by an arrow right now. She was almost instantly angry at how close she had come to being seriously injured, or killed, and all thoughts of fleeing disappeared.

Her little commotion had caused the bushes to rustle again, more vigorously than before, although she didn't care now, her cover was blown. "Oh, you're going down." she whispered angrily to herself, her breathing heavy yet silent.

He thought he heard someone saying something, though it was just a jumble of words to him. He knew now that someone was definitely hiding there. He judged where they had went and loosed his arrow into the bushes, a foot or two to his right. He notched another arrow and then made sure his knife was at his belt. Whoever was there was sure to be angry with him, considering he had just tried to stick an arrow in them.
He circled to the left and tried to get an idea of who was there, but he was damned if he could see anything.

Whizz!
There was a rush of air as she heard another arrow approaching and Raven dove backwards, her back hit the grass and she immediately bent both her legs, bring them towards her body and over as she rolled backwards on the ground and onto her feet, barely avoiding the arrow once again. She wasted no time before turning on her heel and sprinting, trying to get around the bushes so she could see her attacker.

"That petcher!" she mumbled angrily as she ran, she saw a large tree trunk ahead that seemed to mark the end of cluster of bushes, her eyes focused on it in case the man who was trying to kill her popped out from around it. In the heat of the moment it hadn't occurred to Raven that the attacker may not have been alone, all she was concerned with, was making him pay for attacking her without a reasonable excuse.

As she reached the large tree at the edge of the bushes she dug her boots into the ground and skid sideways ending up just a bit past the tree trunk and in the open. There on the other side of a fairly big gap she saw her attacker, he looked to be peaking around the wrong tree though he would soon see that she had flanked him.

With the minor advantage she had, what with her attacker not facing her, although his back wasn't turned either, Raven began to sprint across the large open space between them, trying to close the gap as quickly as possible, he couldn't shoot at her if she was too close after all. As she ran directly at her armed her attacker she watched him intently, ready to dive the moment he fired any arrows at her, she was quickly closing the gap.

Hunting Encounter

Postby Roderick on July 22nd, 2013, 8:04 am

Roderick looked about for signs of movement, then heard boots heading towards him. He turned to see a woman running full pelt at him, hair streaming out behind her. She didn't seem to have any weapons on hand, but considering she'd decided to run at him after he'd launched a handful of arrows at her she could probably do just fine with her bare hands.
He wrenched the string back to his cheek and looked down the length of the arrow at her, then let it go. His muscles complained at the sudden strain they'd suffered, and the arrow scraped his cheek as it shot by, but she was too close for comfort for him to waste time. He dumped his bow off to the side in the hope it wouldn't be trampled on when she reached him.

OOCWhy is it no matter how much I think I've written it never amounts to more than a paragraph or so?

Raven watched as her attacker turned to face her, arrow readied and aimed right at her. Her heart dropped for a second as she saw him release the arrow sending it flying towards her, she saw it in slow motion, his fingers releasing the drawstring, the arrow wobbling as it flew through the air wanting only to injure her.

The following moment seemed to happen in super speed, one moment she was watching the arrow slowly approach her, the next she had dived out of the arrows way, hands placed on the ground, head tucked in as she rolled into a ball and came out of it back on her feet and in a full sprint.

Finally she had reached her attacker, or attempted killer, Raven knew she was far to close for him to be able to knock and fire another arrow at her, she had the advantage now...or at least she hoped. Legs bent and straightened suddenly sending her body into the air as her left leg extended, a high speed flying kick aimed at his upper chest, with the amount of momentum she had this attack would be a heavy blow, if it hit.
