15th of Summer 510AV

Ora approached the large stone gate the marked the entrance of Sylira. Never had the violet Konti eyes seen such a sight. Her life was consumed with the Isle, the thought of foreign cities was but a bedtime story her mother would have told. Now, she stood where her mother had once stood, though, Ora doubt her mother had such an un-nerved fear creeping from the bottom of her belly up her throat.

The pull inside her beckoned her inside and away, such a conflicting feeling only added to her nerves. Her small pale hands clutched her burlap sack which contained enough food to survive as well as her other various items which she did not don. Ora had taken the suggestion from a fellow sister Konti and attempted to hide her race, Her white hood was up, covering her with shadow and her worn, tan leather gloves clung to her hands like a second layer of skin.

Silly girl, you can't stand out here all day, you need to go inside and at least find lodging for a few days, standing and gawking will do no more than make you seem a statue for pidgeons. Ora snapped to herself.

Her legs moved almost by force as she passed through the gate entrance into the city which she would, at least for a while, call her home.

Enalahs walked down the road, leading towards the Gates of Syliras. Her long, snow white hair, blowing in the gentle breeze. It had been nearly a year since she last visited Syliras, and had hopes that it would not have changed as much as she imagined. Keeping to herself, she slowly entered the gates into the city of Syliras. Pulling her hood up, to stop the stares, she made her way into town.

9th of Summer, 510 AV

Ocelot approached the gates, her scavenged gear fitting her a bit awkwardly. She had stolen a linen shift and leggings, though the girl would have much preferred pants and a shirt. She looked up at the gates, remembering why she had done it. She had just needed clothes. As such, she took what was least expensive and least likely to be missed. With a shrug, she approached the guards, feeling herself calm as a guard asked her to stop.

"What is your business here?" he asked, his tone indicating he had asked that very question several times already.

"To enter the city," she told him, slitted eyes flitting to meet his.

"What's your business in the city, punk?" the other asked, mistaking her honest response for a snarky one.

"Oh. Well, in the city I would like to get a place to stay and find some work."

The first guard looked her over and nodded, directing her to the Housing Authority before sending her on her way. The second guard only shot an odd look at her retreating form before shrugging it off and continuing his duty.

Oc glanced back as they briefly questioned someone else, letting herself smile as she entered the city. With a little luck, she could start her life here and meet someone worthwhile.

So she had returned to the bastion of peace, Malia mused with a feeling of fascination. A season ago she had left the city through the very gates that were now appearing at the horizon, had thought she wouldn’t come back for quite some time while gaining allies in her battle, but here she was, still the same, and there were the same gates. Kind of nostalgic.

Anyway, Malia didn’t want to lose time with getting emotional now. There was a purpose why she had come to Syliras. Moreover, she wouldn’t stay long. No, she was merely there for cleaning the dust and cobwebs from her apartment, refreshing a few connections and looking for a few things. Of course, power didn’t come without a price, so she would have to look for a possibility to earn as many coins in as little time as possible. Oh, she had time enough, thanks to Tanroa, but she didn’t want to lose any of it. She had wasted enough opportunities by lying back, watching the sun, the moon and the stars and musing over the reason why she still existed among mankind. Searching for the one sense that connected her with Mizahar. Now that she had found it, she couldn’t simply remain and exclaim that she was happy, instead she had other goals to pursue, other dreams to hunt.

Could they even be called dreams? She didn’t know. Everything she knew was that she would move down her list of things to do quickly and effectively. Then she would leave the city to wander north. The circle would close itself, but another, bigger circle had already been laid out and was ready for her to chase.

When approaching the gates, Malia came with different luggage than the first time, but the guards didn’t look suspicious and merely asked the same question as always. “I am returning to move into my old apartment, earn some money and practice my craft.” Upon that seemingly harmless statement, the guards were satisfied and let her in. She passed the two pairs of gates in fleeting respect, but then Syliras stretched out before her eyes.

Soon the cloaked figure with the heavy backpack disappeared in the familiar streets and alleyways.

|10 Summer, 510 AV - Just before dawn of 11 Summer|

Closing in on the gates of Syliras, Leo made sure to nod quietly to any and all he passed. It was almost dawn of the next day, and he was far to tired to be bothered with asking for directions. No, he simply greeted the gate guard and walked in. No time for pleasantries, he needed food and rest after his long and harrowing journey. As he passed through the gates he couldn't help but notice the number of knights watching him pass.

Soon he disappeared into the cities busy streets.

11 Summer - 510 AV

Broken fragments of sunlight passed across the stone path of the Syliras gates, the illumination passing between thick, dark cloud cover. Through the shadows, a small figure passed. The temptation to ask for help finding a job was arose, but was quickly quashed by the threat looming overhead. If it started to rain, Paige did not want to be caught in the open.

Instead, she simply drew her cloak around herself to ward off the chill breeze and briskly headed into the city.

45 Summer- 510AV

Marcus had spent the day walking around outside the city by the sea. The sea reminded him of his childhood when he went sailing and fishing, however that was in the past and he had a new life now.

As the sun dipped beyond the horizon Marcus began his trek back to the gate. Once at the gate he greeted the guards and proceeded inside of the city, and back to his shop.

[Syliras Location] The Main Gates

Postby Kitty on August 10th, 2010, 3:56 am

12 Summer- 10 AV

He sat quietly as he watched people walk by. There were so many people. He had never seen more then a few together at once. There were so many going in and out of the gates he had trouble coming up with a number for it. He didn't know a number high enough, but he knew there had to be more then a hundred in the city. His dark form hid well in the brush and nobody noticed him as they walked by. If a cat could grin, he did then. He had made up his mind, he wanted to see what was in the city. There were so many wonderful smells, he knew they had to have food inside.

He stepped out of the brush as a women and her child walked by. Judging by her size she couldn't have been more then a few months old. He couldn't ever remember being so small, but he knew it must have been so at some point. The child walked along beside her mother, closer to where he was and noticed him first. "KITTY!" She pointed her finger at him and he froze. He didn't know what to do. The word seemed familiar and after a moment he realized what she was calling him. It seemed a bit hurtful, he was nearly full grown after all. The women turned and her eyes bulged. She let out a scream and grabbed her child's arm and ran off towards the gates. He stared at her as she ran away before remembering that people found him frightening. He quickly turned around and ran back into the brush.

A minute later, Kitty walked back out of the brush. He had taken the shape of a young man. He looked to be in his late teens, though he himself had no idea what age people might prescribe to him. He didn't understand why people cared about such things. It seemed like a silly thing to care about. He walked along the road toward the gates. He had a confident stride as he walked.

With each step that confidence began to waver. People all around him began to stare at him. Small groups began to form all over the road as people got out of his way. He heard whispers that most wouldn't hear. Things like "What is he doing?", "What is he thinking?", and "Where are his clothes?" seemed to be what they were all saying. He didn't understand what they were talking about, but soon took off at a run. He didn't like everyone staring at him, it made him feel vulnerable and that can be dangerous.

When he reached the gates he stopped. His eyes grew wide and he stared at the gate in wonder. It wasn't the tallest thing he had ever seen. He had seen trees taller then these gates. But they were not taller by much. He gaped at the gate, it suddenly seemed forbidding. He wasn't sure if he should continue, but his nose was picking up all sorts of delicious smells from within, and in the end food was his greatest concern. So he swallowed and made his way toward the gates.

OOC: In case you are wondering, the child is actually about 3, but he was around that size after a few months so he figures she is a few months old. Just wanted to clarify in case anyone wondered why a child a few months old was walking and talking.

[Syliras Location] The Main Gates

Before Kitty had enough enough time to pass through the gates, he had two guards, the Syliran Knights of course, hastily approach him, and without so much as a moment of hesitation, they moved to either side, one stripping off his own worn cloak and tossing it around Kitty's bare shoulders, thus, mostly, concealing his nude body. The man in spoke, a light giggle rumbling in his throat that he tried desperately to mask. "The petch are yah doing kid? You should know you can't be runnin' all skimpy and bare skinned here." The two men chuckled lightly as they pulled him towards the side of the road, so as not make travel more difficult for the locals.

"Aye, you'll catch sickness this way. Here, wear this for now until you get some clothing. Syliras doesn't allow public nudity. I would hate to through out such a 'big man' for something so simple though." Another stroke of roaring laughter erupted from the two men as they jested, yet still were helping Kitty understand. If he was to look around, he would see that not a single other person was outside, in public, start naked. Everyone else knew.
Bad News Everybody. School is picking up, Exams are beginning to happen, homework is growing time consuming, I may soon be evicted from my apartment, I'm dealing with severe and physical fights among several of my best friends, and I can't seem to find a time to get much needed sleep. I'm terribly sorry, but don't expect to see much of me for a long while.

[Syliras Location] The Main Gates

Postby Kitty on August 10th, 2010, 1:20 pm

He stared at the shiny men as they approached. He couldn’t fathom why they would have such shiny bodies. It just didn’t make sense. But whether it made sense or not, it made Kitty want to know. As they reached him, he moved his hands out and began to step back. They were coming at him from two sides. He could smell the slight musk from their bodies. The odor of sweat seemed strong to his sensitive nose. Again, he couldn’t understand why they wore such shiny things; it had to be hot within them. But whatever he smelled it didn’t seem like they really meant harm.

One man was slightly closer than the other, and he tossed a cloak onto his shoulders. Kitty’s first instinct was to run as soon as he saw the thing coming at him, but he stood steadfast. He couldn’t show that he had any fear. Fear made predators vicious. If he knew anything from living on his own, it was that the appearance of bravery can often send predators away in search of easier prey. When he spoke, Kitty turned to look at him, not really understanding why he had a cloak on top of him. He didn’t grasp everything the man said, some of the words he had never heard before, but he got the general idea. He lacked fur while a human so he needed fake fur.

The man pulled on him slightly and he followed him to the side of the road. The man spoke again and Kitty listened close to make sure he grasped what the man was saying. He nodded to what the man said, once again grasping the overall meaning of what he said. He was repeating himself, you need fur or you can’t enter. Once he had finished talking the two men began to laugh. Kitty didn’t understand what was funny, but he did his best to smile. He wasn’t practiced at it, and he hoped it didn’t look threatening. The edges of his mouth poked up and he revealed his teeth, hoping his two elongated fangs didn’t seem frightening. It was a hard thing to smile at people. It was the opposite of what he would do as a jaguar. Baring his teeth in the wild was a sign of fury, or anger, a way to intimidate your foe. But to humans it was something entirely different. So he tried to smile.

His mind worked as he tried to come up with words to say to these people. He didn’t really know what was going on, but it seemed as if they were doing something nice for him. At least now people shouldn’t stare at him, and that was indeed a great gift. While searching for the words, a strange thing happened, he thought of his mother. He never thought about the past, but he now remembered her smacking him on the nose for not saying some words after she handed him something. His nose twitched slightly at the memory. It was as if thinking about getting smacked in the nose made his nose sting. He disliked that. He remembered the words she had told him to say, then it just became a question of whether he could say them or not. It had been a long time and he wasn’t sure if his voice would work. “Thank you.” The words came out slow and a bit louder than he had intended them to be.

He considered asking them why they were so shiny, but once again his nose picked up the scent of food. He turned away from the guards, his curiosity about their shininess forgotten. He walked toward the gate. He was going to eat well today. Everything smelled so good; he couldn’t wait to find out what made the smells. The guards which had helped him out moments ago were forgotten as he stepped into this strange city called Syliras.
