Kovac exercised reserve as he kissed Alori, sensing her inexperience, and resisted pressing further against her. The huntress accepted his advance without flinching, even instinctively parting the soft pillows of her lips that allowed the kiss to deepen. The hunter lifted a hand to gently lay against her smooth cheek, carefully guiding her head into more of a tilt, so they fit together better, like puzzle pieces.

Kovac allowed the tip of his tongue to run across Alori's parted lips, but intruded no further. He wanted to kiss her more fully, the casual friendship and her youthful attraction drawing the hunter to the huntress. But he sensed a fragility as well, at least when it came to Alori and being with a boy. Something seemed to resonate within Kovac when it came to Alori, something he could not put his finger on, but it tugged at him, encouraged him to nurture this friendship, and not stain it by dragging the girl to bed.

So he retreated, just a breath, to look into her eyes and gauge whether the kiss was welcomed or not. He smiled his ornery boyish smile. "You do that well, quite naturally." He complimented.

Alori forgot to breathe during the excitement of the moment, though even if she had, Kovac would have stolen that breath. Her eyes fluttering, first lowering, and as he touched her cheek to guide her head into a tilt, she closed them completely. The teen released a soft murmur while their lips pressed against the other's. Many girl's spent a lot of time thinking of their first kiss, and imagining how amazing it would be. Sadly that wasn't always what they got, but in this case, what Alori got was just right.

When he ran his tongue across her lips, she opened her eyes to look at him. He was so experienced with this, and knew what to do and how to make a girl feel good, not just in a physical sense, but emotional as well. Hazel eyes danced between his, and her cheeks burned red as she felt her breath get caught in her throat. Alori felt another shiver take her, and before she could decide if she wanted to fully commit, her lips parted further to invite him in.

The little Avora waited and when he complimented her instead of taking the kiss further, she finally released the breath and smiled. "Well yea. Were you expecting less?" she teased with a grin. Alori was well aware by now that he had her figured out, but the teen's pride wouldn't let her admit that she didn't know what she was doing. "You're not so bad yourself Mr. romancer. Mr. snarky romancer." she giggled and lightly pushed against his chest.

Kovac gave Alori a soft smile. "With you, Alori Sai, I no longer know what to expect...I like that." The girl's lopsided compliment only forced the half-breed's smile wider, his shoulders hitching in a shrug of humility. "Just like to show a girl a good time." Kovac laughed lightly.

Alori's features had grown dimmer in the fading light, high clouds had managed to creep over Skyinarta's rim, stealing the precious starlight. Kovac could barely see her smooth, ivory features, the girl's face still bearing a remnant of subtle roundness of youth in her attractive feminine features, the glint in her dark eyes still visible. There was a moment of silence, not necessarily awkward, just, pensive. Before he had broken off their kiss, Kovac had felt Alori's lips part further, desiring a deeper exploration. She was young, inexperienced, but clever enough to hide it pretty well. Part of the snarky mongrel knew he could have Alori, convince her to warm his bed.

But Kovac wouldn't. Not Alori. Not yet, anyway. She was something different, special. Not in a magical, glorious way. But in a much more down to earth, comfortable, friendly way. Sex partners were a dime a dozen in Wind Reach, and Dek's a plenty. Kovac wanted something more rare. A friend. Then, ( the corner of his mouth curled at the thought) maybe, they would become friends with benefits.

A drop of rain hit Kovac in the forehead, followed by several others, the pitter patter of them hitting the rocks around them becoming louder.

"Shyke. We better get going. Rain will do no good to these instruments."
He quipped as he took up his lute and stood, offering a hand to Alori.

The little huntress smiled, rolling her tongue between her teeth as she looked away from him. It was getting harder to see him now in the fading light and just when she wanted to see him more. But she guessed it was for the best, her cheeks were red, pupils dilated and the air around them was getting warmer. "Oh? Is that what I said? I guess it was alright." she giggled.

Alori started to push him again, but instead she simply reached up and touched his face with one hand. Her bright eyes trying to see through the darkness to take in his features again. Holy petch...I can't believe it. He kissed me. The teen didn't want to make a big deal about it and she certainly wasn't going to tell him that he was her first kiss, but it was true. She didn't have anyway of knowing, but it felt to her that this hadn't been just another kiss from a guy to girl. There was something else there, something more than a guy looking for a poke.

In truth, the girl felt a bit light headed, but she was already seated, and as long as she sat still the feeling was more dull than not. Fingers trialed up and through her red hair, mixing the strains of blonde dyed in between. Alori wondered why he pulled away when he did, but she wouldn't ask. Many guys were the type to get a girl drunk and take advantage of her, and maybe the wine did play apart in her behavior, but she was still clothed and still seated. The Avora had too many thoughts roaming around inside her mind to hold onto any one of them, but something told her he pulled away out of respect..though she didn't clearly understand.

The rain started, and the cool touch on her warm skin felt great, and it was enough to remove the fog from her mind. Alori squeaked, quickly grabbing her instrument and took the hand that he lent her. Standing up, she moved closer and wrapped her free arm around him to embrace him in a hug. It lasted a few ticks and as she slowly moved a way, a quick hand pushed him back, and the mischievous teen giggled and ran off in front of him. "You're too slow, come on, hurry!"

Notes:
Well that was fun to read. The quality of it makes the quantity acceptable in my eyes. Perhaps there might be more to this relationship in the future... Perhaps these creative little songs could find their way into the development thread sometime... ;)
It has to be said that “peel back the layers of each other’s onion” was probably the funniest phrase I’ve seen!
