The 70th of Winter 513AV
Today it was awfully cold again. The frost coated the roads and anything left outside at night. The streets, walls, anything affected by the thin layer sparkled as Syna’s rays touched it. Quite a nice effect really. A glamorous blanket of pale white frost, making the cold stones slippery as well as beautiful. When it would melt, nothing would remain of it but wet pavement. And it would melt. The sun goddess would take care of that. When noon was upon them, the frost would start to fade.
Though it wasn’t like the presence of Syna made any difference temperature-wise. It was still as cold as ever, as expected from a mountain peak city in the dead of winter. Well, at last it wasn’t that long until Spring would arrive and the watchstones shifted green once more. He couldn’t wait for the time to come. He was fed up with the Goosebumps waving over his body and breath turning into white clouds. On cold nights, fine. But not for an entire season darnit! Hands tucked away warmly into his pockets, the thief hurried through the streets of the crystal city. There were some things he needed to take care off.
A few days ago, some rumors had caught his attention. Apparently, a masquerade ball would take place in the opera house. At that point he had almost stopped paying attention to the conversation of the two gossip exchanging females. The opera house wasn’t a place he commonly came. It was a place for the richer people in the city. He would stand out against the expensive suits and dresses in his own clothes. And besides, a ball could only be attended when invited by the host. No sane man would ever invite someone dressed as scruffy as him.
A sad grimace clouded his features. Even though he liked his clothes a lot, they didn’t compare to what rich folk wore at exquisite balls. It was a shame he couldn’t attend. Targets enough for a nice evening of pick pocketing. Well, if possible. Way too much Shinya would be present at the event. Just because it was a great place to work quick fingers. Drunk people not paying attention… ah, a paradise for thieves. Unfortunately, the guards were aware of that as well. Security would be tight. Even sticking around the place where the ball was held would attract unwanted attention. He wouldn’t even be able to tail a suitable target. He shook his head. Such a shame.
And then he heard what followed. It was open for all. The whole city was invited! In that case he could go as well. Infiltrating in the Opera house, he could look out for a nice person worth breaking in to their house. Hell, he could even pretend to bring a drunk soul home while gathering intelligence on the poor chap. Gleams and sparkles shone bright in his dark orbs. It was worth a shot.
Therefor the bat now hurried through the streets and alleys of the celestial city. Heading towards a shop selling clothes. Fancy but not too, and affordable. A mask he wouldn’t buy. It was bad enough he had to buy his getup for the event. A mask as well was too much of wasted money. The thief was certain that he would find a vendor at the Azure selling the things. There would probably be more than one, seeing as the ball was taking place within ten, twelve days. Excellent opportunity to sell wanted items. Gallan had told him that once. It was one of the most used vendor tricks. Buy what the customers want during the time they need it. Finding a mask shouldn’t pose a problem.
The clothes however, were an entire different case. The bat was quite picky with what he wore. Anything that didn’t suited his style or what he deemed to be unfitting for his taste, he didn’t even consider stealing, let alone buying. Finding a piece of clothing to his liking wasn’t something that usually happened early on the few shopping trips he undertook. Frustrating, yes. But better than finding nothing at all. Making a turn to the left, he cut through the small crowd and pushed the door of the shop open. Stepping inside, a wave of warm air washed over him. ”Welcome.” sounded a woman’s voice from behind the counter.
