It was rare for Fallon to look for the finer things in life. If anything she chose often to not even consider divulging into such past times, there was little point and little urge to. For the most part as it had little interest to her most of the time and was a wonderful way to spend coin at a rapid rate. But, the odd tipple, the small treat, the gentle sip of her preferred poison here and there never hurt - least not until the following morning. Right now that was not a concern. It was perhaps unusual not to find herself within the recesses of the Rearing Stallion after a day of training. But today she had simply found it unbearable, tightly packed and stinking of sweat and ale. She would have been brushing shoulders with many a patron if she had stayed there, and so the squire took to the docks for the slightly fresher air.

Besides, winter was quickly approaching. Best not to waste the moment.

Sat upon the stone floor and her legs dangling over the edge of the dock wall, the squire glanced only out to see. The sky ran with colours, the hues of reds and violets dancing their way across it like wild fire. Her chin lifted, her face light and devoid of any real thought for the time being. More, she was simply admiring from afar the rolling blue of the Suvan, and the shadow of merchant ships that glided across it.

”Like ducks in a pond,” she muttered to herself, before turning to the bottle of wine she had acquired. Beside it she looked to the clay upside down tumbler. There was a moment of regard to it before she tipped it over. The blue mirror stretched onwards, the occasional ripple from the wind itself. The ships continued glide across it in the distance, travelling off no doubt to strange places with exotic wares. Grasping the cork of the bottle she gave it a pull and a tug. Freeing the red liquid she allowed it to be decanted into the cup. What issue would there be with silent musing over things in the distance?

Taking a swig she released a hearty sigh, and sucked in the salty sea air. The opportunity to stop and think was upon her, the niggling thoughts and worries creeping up. She took a second mouthful and swirled it about, a look of careful contemplation fixed upon her face. The life carried on around her, sailors and dock hands passing by. Her brow rose only briefly to take note to the hustle and bustle behind her. Man would never stop work, there was always something new coming in, some ship laden with cargo and wares. They were not her immediate concern however.

There was a pause as she considered topping up her tumbler. Drinking alone, a bad habit she knew she should not keep. Then again, no one ever lectured her to do otherwise. The colours of the sky continued to warp, dipping and darkening as the chimes went on. Shadows streaked across the surface, a golden hue framing the world before her. And so taking the moment she watched the dying light with drink in hand and the weight of her thoughts simply flickering away for a brief chime of peace. She released a mutter under her breath, "Dang, I need to do this more often."

[The Great Harbour] Boat watching and other oddities

The docks were like a giant window to the weary Benshiran, offering some semblance of respite from the narrow stone corridors and enclosure of Stormhold Castle. The sea breeze was constant, carrying away the stench of gathered humanity on its salty winds. The vast expanse of the Suvan stretched out before him, its size incomprehensible, the lands beyond it still mysterious to the well traveled Abashai, large seafaring vessels seeming to shrink to frail little rafts as they drifted towards the horizon. Most of his life Abashai had dwelt outside of men's walls, whether in the Burning Lands or the Wildlands of Sylira. And over the years, a bit of Nya's need of the wilds had been instilled in her former bondmate. As such, the panorama before him ministered to his soul.

The distinct pop of a cork being tugged from a bottle caught the man's attention, even among the day's-end tasks being carried out along the line of docked ships. The owner of the wine bottle sat perched on the edge of the stone dock, peering out at the sea. She was young, but her garb suggested she was no barmaid or merchant's brat, nor a helpless damsel, by the looks of the strange, heavy curved knife dangling from her side.

Abashai needed a kindred spirit at that moment, one that perhaps looked out to the sea with the same need for open sky and cleansing air. Booted feet strolled steady but witout haste on the flagstones towards the woman, halting near her, but not too near. His thick Shiber accent lifting over the din of dockworkers and sailors, his crystal blue-green gaze scanning the sharp line between sea and sky.

"There is a lure, almost a dare, in her horizon, as if she promises something extraordinary if you only brave her endless waves, to discover what is beyond. I myself have not accepted that invitation yet. But maybe, someday."

It was for a moment that Fallon simply paused with lips over the rim of the cup. The voice of the other was unexpected to say the least among the hustle and bustle. The accent far from the Sylirian dialect. It was something foreign that was for sure. She swallowed and turned her gaze both up and backwards to the Benshiran. Even she could notice the distinct tired look in his eyes, the rough look of a foreigner and outsider. And it was only as she contemplated his words, did once more her gaze fall outwards to the horizon and the world that existed beyond.

“She promises to be blue, mysterious and… full of fish,” There was a shrug, her gaze turning into the red ripples of her drink, the features momentarily pinching and her jaw stiffening. Or at least until she drained the last of her tumbler, ”It’s like a dance. You hear the music; you feel the rhythm of the ocean, the whip crack of waves upon the stone and the chorus of birds upon the air. And although you feel all these pulsing sensations, these urges and wants… you can’t help but stumble and falter when you need to rise up above the wave breaks.”

There was a long and satisfied sigh. Hands cupping around the tumbler she quickly set it once more upon the stone, her other hand reaching for the corked bottle. It was going to be a lot to drink, but she sure as well was going to attempt to dent it. Once more the cork was pulled, the red fluid being poured out once more. She gave it only a flicker of judgement, returning the stopper once more. Lifting the cup she looked into it.

”This is all awfully philosophical to have whilst drinking,” she scrunched up her features, then eased them off her attention once more turning up to the man, ”Come stranger, take a seat and let us solve the strange mysteries of the blue beyond and make far off guesses.” Her lips could not help but curl up into a grin, her hand opening in a gesture. Perhaps it was the alcohol, or maybe because he was indeed little more than a stranger to share some nonsense ideas with.

Either way, it should prove somewhat interesting.

The woman looked up at Abashai, her gaze void of any particular judgement, but clearly studying the stranger with a trained eye as if reading into the creases of his features with understanding. For her part, the woman was still young, but carried herself with a sort of self-assured resignation, as if she had stolen a moment to shut out the world but for the scenery before her and the wine in her hand.

The girl spoke Common well, more fluid than the Benshiran, with an accent distinctly Syliran. With no hurry, the armed woman uttered another rather poetic verse before refilling her wine cup. Abashai felt a certain pleasure in her lack of urgency, even to introduce herself or offer an invitation. Everyone in Syliras seemed to want something, he and Nya as guilty as any as they sought to served their own agenda. Finally, offering a smile without expectation, the wine bibber invited the Benshiran to sit. With a nod of acknowledgement, Abashai sat next to the woman, cross-legged.

His gaze returned to the rolling waves of the Suvan before them. Abashai had thought to offer his name in introduction, but hesitated. There was a comfort in the anonymity between them that Shai wished to savor for a chime. Any personal revelations revealed could come in the flow of interaction, not forced like a ram through a door, but as the water of a stream finding the path of least resistance through the rocks.

"Though its surface rolls in motion, it is not so different that the waving blades of the Sea of Grass, or the shifting sands of the Burning Lands. Have you ever seen those?"

For a few chimes she was silent, glazed eyes staring out to see her mind simply absorbing the moment. She gave an offer of the cup to the Benshiran, not forceful but hanging there ready in gesture should he wish to take it. There was no rush right now, no need to pick up speed or hurry along. She placed the wine bottle down between them gently before simply lacing her fingers together upon her lap. Her brow only lifted slightly to his question, but she did not turn to him. Instead her gaze remained fixed upon the water.

”I have not,” she began, her eyes briefly narrowing down upon the shadow of some vessel in the far distance, ”Though perhaps one day I will, for whatever reason of course. Who knows?” there was only a shrug, ”It stretches on for such a distance though, like a mirror of ice. Like the cold tundra of Taldera… You ever seen those?” She gave a smirk, a glint forming in her eyes. Perhaps it was the glee of talking about far off and exotic places – to her at least – or it may have even been the warm feeling created from the alcohol that began its journey through her veins.

Her head gave a tilt, and then a gesture to the open sea once more. She sucked in the salted air, a flicker of contempt resting upon her face. It was pleasant if not unusual company, to share words with a stranger was refreshing – more so when they were not demanding to know things or trying to beat one around the ring. Rubbing her jaw, she continued, ”Tell me stranger, do you know what lies beyond the horizon? Or is it just as much as a mystery to you as it is to I?”

She exhaled, ”Mysteries can be fun. It allows the mind to think of all sorts of possibilities and stories, and perhaps, just for a little while, give ourselves a break from reality. It is nice, to myself at least, to stop every now and again.”
