Anna took the compliment for what it was worth, a slight feeling of pleasure rising in her as she soaked in the praise. It had been a while since she had been complimented for something other than being a powerful Sorceress, for something born out of fear for her power. It felt good, though Anna reminded herself that she needed to keep her front up. She couldn't trust anyone fully, they would just stab her in the back the moment they got what they needed. Anna knew it was true, that deep down everyone was as filthy and dirty as she was and wouldn't hesitate to betray her. She needed to keep people out and never, ever let them it.
The tall woman pondered Felicia's answer for a moment, her grey eyes drifting off slightly. Were the girl to look close enough she might note the slight dark circles around them that indicated lack of sleep. Anna couldn't properly remember the last time she had gotten a good night's sleep, always she woke in cold sweat with nightmares plaguing her. Lea's lifeless eyes starred up at her and accused her of inadequacy, of being too slow as Maelstrom's mad laughter followed her from the Elements Sanctum. Red eyes, cruel and malevolent, that could see everything she had been and everything she could be, unraveling her while she mentally cried out in purest anguish and tears leaked from her eyes. Visions of horror that would no doubt haunt her to her grave.
The Sorceress shook her head, her mind having drifted too far afield and her grey eyes had glazed slightly in reminiscence. Right, Felicia's answer, she needed to address it and continue the theoretical lesson. Sahova had sapped away most everything from her, but Anna firmly denied it the pleasure of ruining her entirely. She needed to continue to teach, to take her mind off of the horror and trauma for just a little while longer. Suddenly this wasn't about manipulation, more a desperate attempt to forget those incidents.
"Yes, you are correct in that assessment. However it goes far deeper than that, than simply being able to affect all magic. It connects them together, it creates a grand tapestry of magic rather than individual disciplines. Hence why I have called it the Magic of Magics, it changes and bends the rules as we know it. However if one looks closely they can see, see Felicia, the connections between all magic and what makes them all but fragments of one massive whole!" Anna said, gesturing widely with her arms as though indicating to every magic in existence.
"By understanding it we understand the nature of Djed, the very fabric of the world and how it is changed and how it can be further changed! This is power, real power, nothing so trivial as casting a firebolt but rather the ability to shift the very laws of magic to your whim. It is the codex for the language of magic itself, by understanding Glyphing you are understanding everything. A Master of the Glyphs is a force to be reckoned with, far more potent than any magic of Reimancy I, or even the greatest Reimancer in the world could conjure." Anna lectured, her words deeply impassioned.
"The limits of a personal mage are dependent on their Djed limitations, the limits of a world mage are often resources and time but Glyphing can reduce or eliminate those limitations. Imagine never needing to be near your circles to activate them, or having a means of containing anything that might emerge from beyond. Glyphing can accomplish this, it is that which binds all magic together." The tall woman finished, leaning forward and regarding Felicia.
Glyphing was indeed one of the most powerful Arcane arts in the hands of a seasoned expert, one who knew how to look beyond the symbols and look for the meaning. The symbols themselves were meaningless, it was their meaning and purpose that held power beyond the imagination of most wizards. A Master of the art could turn another's magic against them, possibly even cancel it out entirely. Alternatively it could turn a wizard into a nigh unstoppable force of destruction, possessing a near never ending arsenal of magic that could level entire cities.
"These scrawling's, these symbols, they are ultimately meaningless. It is their purpose and meaning that holds true power, Felicia. The power to change the rules of magic, something that would make that little display I showed you in the Prairie look paltry and pathetic by comparison. Look past the symbols, look for the inner meanings my student and realize how endless they are." Anna urged.
After a moment the tall woman settled back into her chair, taking a deep breath as she realized how deeply she was hammering the same point over and over again. It was all well and good to say it, but it was pointless if Felicia didn't understand what was being said. So perhaps it would be prudent to quiz her on the little lecture just given to her.
"What was my point there, Felicia? Why do you think it is that I am pounding this concept into your skull? How does this apply to you in any way? Do you even understand?" Anna asked, quirking a single eyebrow.
