A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

We poison the lake!

...Wait.

We fill the lake with predator fish!

[Ravok OOC Thread] Shifting Sails

Postby Nemesis on June 23rd, 2014, 7:04 pm

There seems to be an increasing number of PCs, particularly new players, murdering in the city. I don't know why this is happening... but I imagine that it is because people are not bothering to read the codex. I think people are under the impression that , because this is an "evil" city, you can do what you want. You can't. The Black Sun rule with an iron fist. If you want to murder willy-nilly, go to Sunberth, where anarchy rules :)

Murder is ILLEGAL in Ravok. The punishment for murdering a citizen is death.

With the fish crisis, killing non-citizens is... not really being taken noticed of by the Black Sun or Stryfe, granted, but I'm seeing deaths of citizens and even Stryfe soldiers in people's solos.

If, for whatever reason, you want your PC to kill someone and it is story driven, that's fine, players here have murdered and gotten away with it. This doesn't even have to be a moderated thread, but I strongly suggest that you PM either Abstract or me to discuss it first, rather than entering into a thread where you PC is killing for the sake of murder.

So, to sum it up, by all means, if you have reason, say... stealing an identity or murderingvan abusive father.. please please please talk to us and let us know what's happening first, rather than blindsiding us. The punishment for muder is death. By killing, you are risking a moderator intervention with us arresting and maybe even executing your PC.

I'm sorry for this being a sad message, but it needs to be said. Most know this but some clearly don't. Everything doesn't go in this city.

The bell perhaps tolls for me?
Daegron is guilty for two recent kills. These butchering scum were not citizens probably, but the self-defence / shock / furious retaliation excuse is not selling, I know. Perhaps I got a bit over-excited.

You are very right.

*stands corrected and tries to lower the bloodshed a few notches*

The Art will twist you and turn you.
It will break you and tear you asunder; from your scattered remains it will shape you.
It will engulf you and spit you out.
It will fester in your mind, disfigure your body and blacken your soul.
And so on and so forth, through an endless chain of transformations till the time comes and you are everything...
Then you'll truly be nothing...

Let me add, I was warned of this when Verilian modded this town. Now, nearly two years later, I am being tortured in the Black Hole despite my devotion to Rhysol because I killed two stryfe soldiers way, way back then. "V" told me he was putting it my SS file and to watch out.

It is ONLY the devotion I have shown since then that will probably allow me to survive this ordeal.

Obviously, you have to be caught. And maybe you can thread a clean getaway. I have mostly been able to create a situation where I was not the primary suspect (Disguise ftw). OR, the person I killed, in self-defense, was not a Ravokian citizen. Even then, I have threaded being taken in for questioning. Or had NPCs issue warnings that they were going to be watching me now.

I would prefer you called me "Nolan Parnell"...In fact, I insist.

So...no murdering NPCs all willy-nilly unless you consult a DS first or are possibly able to avoid the coppers by getting away. Got it.

On another note, it's kinda funny that Sunberth, with its lawlessness, is technically worse than Ravok, with its devotion to the God of actual Evil. Ha!

I agree.
It makes things a lot more interesting to have your character face the inevitable judgement
Never knowing what's behind the corner is what's making a story exciting.

Ino, that's partially the reason but also because, as you were recently made aware, it was so easy for me to betray you like I did xD

Like I said, for plot purposes , we welcome a grisly death, and will help in any way we can. I've seen it done very well. But Ravok isn't the place to come and just murder for the sake of it. As the old phrase that we all heard as kids goes - it's not big and it's not clever . Murder shouldn't be taken lightly and you need appropriate skills if you are expecting to get away with it. Starter Package skills just are not enough to succeed and get away with it.

Killing doesn't make you look 'badass' in my eyes. In some cases, it's actually a very lazy shorthand for trying to appear evil. There are other, more exciting and profound ways of making your character appear as such.

And whilst I agree with your point, Daegron, that it makes things very interesting, it's not interesting when your PC gets executed. This is why I'd prefer for you guys to come to us first so we know/can talk it through. Not everyone will get away, this is a totalitarian state and the Black Sun and Ebonstryfe are NOT stupid. If PCs keep killing, those PC's players might not like the consequences.

And again, Ravok has laws. I'm not saying this to be harsh and "cramp your style", there are IC laws and breaking those laws will have IC consequenses. If you decide to kill willy-nilly, you are relinquishing your right to keep your PC alive - Ravok IC isn't all about second chances.

Thanks for putting this up, Nemesis XD I honestly love the two examples you gave... murdering an abusive father/taking a new identity. I wonder where those came from? Heh.

Vayl, it was your choice to start as a Sym, so don't complain XD

As for Yoona's and Daegron's solutions to the fish problem... sadly it will not be so simple. Namely, its far to big. It would eat the predator fish, and a harpoon wouldn't do much... :D
