  • This pc is maxed out in Animal Husbandry, Medicine, Observation, Rhetoric, and Socialization.
  • Kavala a Master Teacher. Students she is teaching in thread can earn more than the maxium 5 XP per thread.
  • This pc has a Konti Gift of Animal Empathy. She has a superpower from a Riverfall city event that allows animals of all sorts and Kelvics (in kelvic form) to speak clear understandable Common around her.
  • Kavala is a Konti but was raised in the Drykas culture so her accent is entirely Pavi though she can speak Common, Pavi, and Tukant well. She's only conversational in Kontinese.

Ablation said before that it's the same as time frame as normal NaNo which I believe ends on 12 hours over GMT.

NaJu (Nanowrimo in June)

Postby Gossamer on July 3rd, 2014, 4:30 pm

Couple of questions for you guys since nothing has been talked about or mentioned. Traverse brought it up in the HD that we needed to make NaJu medals. Now... I'm cool with that if people want them but no one has ever said anything about wanting them as the winners nor did Ablation approach me about it.

Is this something you want? I wasn't going to bother because the turn out was so low, but Traverse made up some medals and seemed to think you guys wanted them. Let us know.

And also... NaJu as a term never made sense to me because what in the heck does it stand for? National June? Huh? I can see JuNo as in June Novel or whatever. NaNoWrMo stands for National Novel Writing Month which June clearly isnt... for good reason. Sensible people are out enjoying the weather, gardening, vacationing, taking finals etc. I think this has definitely proven itself a winter event only.

I think this is the last time we are going to do this outside of November. I got a lot of complaints that people had a lot of finals in June and if we wanted to be absolutely fair about running one for the college student crowd we needed to do it in July or August, preferably July because in August a lot of people are headed back to college. So looking at the final stats with only six finishers were as we had dozens last November, it seems that the theory of tons of college kids not being able to participate wasn't exactly correct or still correct because it was held in June. While the people that had issues know what I told them, the rest of you probably don't. My answer to the complaints was that it was a side staff project, not an actual official Miz event, and that I had nothing to do with organizing it.

Now, anything like this you do will generate issues and grumbling. It's a given on a site this large. But it would be nice to have some feedback from you folks on the medals issue and what you think of the event as a whole.

And also, big thanks to Ablation for running it.

I think people should get medals, just because 50,000 words is a lot to write in a month, under any circumstances. I agree with Goss, though, I don't think this should happen again. It's too much work to count every single post, and I don't think anyone should have to do that. Besides, NaNo would become pretty meaningless if people kept replicating it in different months.

Kudos to Ablation for hosting it, though!

As you went to the trouble of writing that post, Gossamer, I think it's only fair that I actually give some feedback.

To me, just actually reaching the target was reward enough. I know personally that I got there and that's what was important to me. If Traverse has gone to the trouble of doing medals out though then I'm not one to let her work go to waste. She certainly deserves a medal herself, and you too Goss, for managing to turn out so many words, give so much back to the site and have real life responsibilities ALL AT THE SAME TIME! I wouldn't say no to a medal anyway.

As for the name, I did say it in my head and think that it wasn't right but I just rolled with it really. The event as a whole I found to be quite good. It came at a good time for me personally because I really needed an incentive to get writing again and it definitely helped. Not only did my activity pick up but I also ended up doing a lot of reading of other people's posts. They'd post all these links to a particular thread and I just wouldn't be able to resist looking at them. It also got me thinking, how do these people write such long posts? My own writing kind of naturally lengthened as I realised what other people were just doing right. So I'd say that it was a learning experience.

With NaNo it's a site wide event and it's just so HUGE. There's always a long list of names and I never thought about looking such-and-such up and seeing what they'd written lately. So as a little side event, I thought that this was enjoyable and it just happened to come at a convenient time for me. If something like it was done again outside of November then great but if it wasn't then I can be patient for November or I can set those goals for myself personally for a month.

And I must say that Ablation did a great job running it.
