Kuvarakh saw the man descending upon him at disastrous speed. The Zith behind him prevented him from backing up, and he felt obliged to hold his ground, rather than suddenly jumping aside so the Zith would take the impact instead. He at least had a flash of warning, crouching, setting his stance against the impact and swinging his hands up to block. But he forgot the stoney nature of his hands as the dropping figure slammed his leg into them, locking for a tick in their grip, and then twisting out with an ugly snap.

At first, the sound made him think it had been one or more of his fingers that had snapped off. But the grisly maimed leg of the new arrival made him realize his mistake. Knowing that he would be needing to switch bodies soon anyway made him feel a genuine regret that it hadn't been his fingers.

He looked around frantically, not sure what he was looking for. Nuits could not be healed like mortal beings, so he'd never really looked for a healer in town, Nor had healers ever looked for him. As strange as that sounded, it was the standing rumor regarding 'Ionu's Mercy', the city's healing facility.

But it responded now to the injured man's need. Kuvarakh was astounded to see a pair already approaching with a stretcher. Kuvarakh turned to the injured man, "It looks like the healers are a step ahead of me. They're already here. Just lie back and try to relax. I know that's easily said, but they'll probably have something for the pain. By the way, what's your name?"

The Job (Edgar, Kuvarahk)

Postby Darkalin Pinewood on October 10th, 2014, 9:24 pm

Darkalin zoned in a place in between consciousness and unconsciousness. He didn't feel the pain, as he didn't feel anything. But, he could still talk and speak. Below his neck was immobile, something he didn't think about at the moment. He heard the now older looking man, ask him for his name. He did not know how to answer this, but he felt that he owed this man at the very least his name.

He tried to speak, with only a croak coming out on his first attempt. He cleared his throat, and tried again. "My name? My name is Darkalin Pinewood. I had come here to meet one Kuvarakh, for a job I had seen at the Sanity Center. I guess you wouldn't happen to know him? He works at the Alchemia Alchae, if that helps." He said, his voice already a bit weak, though only his leg had really been hurt.

Healers? How did they know? It hasn't been very long, and they could have come from anywhere! He said, still very confused with the nature of Alvadas. But, it was something he wasn't going to argue about right now. He then noticed the pain beginning to come back, ever slowly. He began to swear in Symenos, using the full of his vocabulary he had learned from his father.

The Healers came up, and put him on the Stretcher. They tipped his head back, and made him drink a rather bad tasting liquid, that made the pain go away, and made him just a bit.....drowsy....

And, with that, the young Symenestra fell asleep....slowly.

Kuvarakh would have laughed at the irony of the man's questions, were the poor fellow not lying on a stretcher. But at least he could give the man some good news. "Well, Mr. Pinewood, it so happens I AM Kuvarakh, so I can spare you the need to offer directions to Alchemmia Alchae, at least. It's a shame you've injured yourself, since I have not yet gotten anyone to fill that particular job I need done."

He didn't want to try explaining the whole "sentient mansion" concept, made all the more peculiar by suggesting that The Greenhouse had "asked" him to procure the plant for it. He figured the man would think he was crazy. So it was not so simple to account for needing to pay a stranger to do what basically amounted to "picking flowers" for him. He hoped that the rarity of the plant, and the adventurous need for the lengthy hike into the wilds to find them would suffice.

But it seemed somewhat moot now anyway. The man's leg was clearly broken. It would be quite some time before this guy was going anywhere, let alone hiking in the wilds. But he thought back on what the woman in The Bizarre had said about getting some seeding samples in the Spring. There was still most of Summer ahead of them, and the man should be up and around with plenty of the Fall season left. Maybe he could just save the job for him for Fall.

He had long suspected that The Greenhouse had its own way to nurture its subjects and samples. Kuvarakh himself had occasionally done some watering and trimming, but always at the direction of the Greenhouse itself. They had established several means of communicating without words. He had also suspected that the avatar that took the form of the houseman, 'Aceren', could be employed by all the wings and outbuildings as well. Perhaps there was a conjured gardener to do The Greenhouse's bidding while Kuvarakh was away.

He suddenly felt quite confident that the job could be delayed until Fall with no consequences. By the time he'd reached this conclusion the healers had given Darkalin some concoction that appeared to kill the pain and act as a sedative. Before the man fell into the drug-induced sleep, Kuvarakh crouched down and assured him that the job would be available for him when he was healed of his injuries.

The Job (Edgar, Kuvarahk)

Postby Edgar on October 28th, 2014, 7:10 pm

OH GODS!!!

Edgar had realized that the man who came flying off the roof with his sword drawn was Drakalin only half a moment before the sound of bone breaking and muscles tearing filled his ears. As Darkalin land with a thud on the ground Edgar rushed over to check on him, but stopped once he saw the red and white mass of bone that had ripped itself out from his leg.

"Darkalin..."

Edgar doubled over as he expelled his lunch onto the ground, barely able to move himself to where it would not hit Darkalin in time. Edgar had seen this kind of injury plenty of times before, it was common for the animals he would hunt to break bones while fighting or fleeing from him. However, to see the same injury on a person, on a friend, it was too much. As Edgar went from vomiting to dry heaving, he became aware of the fact that more people had arrived without him hearing them. He turned back towards Darkalin to see healers placing him on a stretcher as he spoke with Kuvarahk. As the healers gave Darkalin some sort of drink Edgar slowly approached.

Are they going to blame me? A man with a torn up leg in the middle of the street and a Zith just happens to be standing around? Should I run? Should I try to explain?

Edgar walked over to Kuvarahk's side as the healers got ready to take Darkalin away. Edgar cleared his throat and tried to speak up, but could only manage a murmur. He cleared his throat again and tried once more,"Is...*cough*... is he going to be okay?

Kuvarakh informed the healers that the victim had fallen from the roof. He'd seen that there was more to it that that, but figured there was nothing to be gained by complicating things. He assured the servants of Ionu's Mercy that the Zith had had no part of it. For himself, he was not entirely sure of that, but the same disclaimer applied to that detail as well, as far as the healers were concerned. He informed the man carrying the man's sleeping form away that if there were costs connected to his healing, they could send the bill to Alchemmia Alchae. "...to the attention of 'Kuvarakh', please...Thank you."

The Zith in question was now standing beside him, asking about the injured man. "Yes, Mr. Pinewood will be as fine as any man who has just suffered a horribly vivid broken leg could be said to be. At least he is now in the hands of the city healers." He turned toward the Zith, his own hint of racial distrust somewhat evident in his narrowed eyes and furrowed brow. "Perhaps you'd like to clarify just exactly what that was all about. Was he after you? And instead ran into me? With a freakish coincidence of hitting these stony hands at just the right angle?" Kuvarakh held up his semi-petrified pink hands.

"You mentioned looking to take up one of the jobs I offered...You mentioned a friend..." He paused to send a pointed look at the healers, disappearing into the building with the stretcher. "Is that him?" He looked back at Edgar, "YOU told me to run, at the same time HE was shouting 'BEGONE'...Was he shouting at you or me? I'm frankly stymied in my attempt to make any sense of this."

He took a deep breath, enjoying the indulgent sensation of giving a heavy sigh. The Zith looked to be very much on the spot. "Okay, look, Edgar...I'm not really trying to make some private matter my business. But if I'm going to hire you and...your friend...to hunt down a rare plant in the wild for me, it would be reassuring to know that there isn't some kind of insanity running in one or both of your families. Not to mention the fact that he's now probably going to be laid up for the rest of the season."

He relaxed somewhat, now feeling his own level of self-consciousness. "Now, in truth, there's no real hurry to get this done. The fact of the matter is, that the big "danger" inherent in this job is the presence of Zith in the area where these plants are found. Do you think your going will reduce this danger? I really have no idea if your people are clannish, or tend to feud like Dhanis. But the job is still open if you want it."

The Job (Edgar, Kuvarahk)

Postby Edgar on November 6th, 2014, 1:11 am

Edgar watched the healers take Darkalin into a nearby building and he began to consider following them inside. He had no guarantee that he'd be able to find it again in the next day and wanted to make sure Darkalin was alright. Plus, he just realized that Darkalin still had his clock and he was starting to feel very exposed. Edgar was leaning toward following them when he realized that Kuvarahk was waiting for him to answer his questions. "Oh, um... yes I would still like the job and yes, that was my friend. I-I-I'm certain he saw me, uh, fall. I guess he thought that you, er, that you were re-responsible for that. My falling, that is." Edgar looked back toward the healers' building as they closed the doors and decided that it was probable best if he didn't follow. There was nothing he could do beside get in the way anyway. "As f-f-for your, ah, questions about Zith culture, I'm afraid I'm about useless in that, um, department. I've only ever meet b-b-but a handful of other Zith." Edgar shrugged his shoulders as he looked down at the ground.

Edgar suddenly realized how tired he was. Dawn would be in only a few hours and this day had been draining. He needed to find a place to stay, as well as a place for Truffles to stay. He would also need to try and figure out how to find his way in this madhouse of a city. All of this would be hard enough already, he didn't need the extra challenge of his mind being clouded by minor exhaustion. Then Edgar had an idea of questionable brightness. "Um... I d-d-don't suppose that that job comes with a place to stay? Just for a d-d-day?"

The Job (Edgar, Kuvarahk)

Kuvarakh began to put the pieces together. Mr. Pinewood had apparently thought Kuvarakh had used some means to swat the Zith, Edgar, out of the sky. Now he felt like he'd been a bit harsh at first. The injured man had thought he was coming to his friend's rescue, and the Zith, realizing that the wasn't time to explain the misunderstanding had simply warned Kuvarakh to run.

The Nuit felt exceedingly embarrassed for the injured man now. Heroically leaping from a rooftop, mighty sword in hand, a daring rescue in the making...only to drastically injure himself upon landing at the feet of the man he'd meant to intimidate. He would definitely see to covering the man's injuries now. It was the least he could do. As well as being sure to keep the job open for the pair.

He listened to Edgar's hesitant reply, he felt drawn to the poor fellow. He wondered if the guy was some sort of rejected loner from some Zith group. Kuvarakh had really only ever encountered the one Zith that had tried to capture him when he was inhabiting a female body. That specimen had been brutal and ferocious. In fact, it was only it's savage nature that had made the creature vulnerable to Kuvarakh's ploy.

This Zith, Edgar, was clearly not inclined to such feral aggression. Kuvarakh silently hoped that Edgar's seeming gentility would not get him killed. "Well, you know better than I what complications may arise from running into other Zith. I will leave the job open for you and Mr. Pinewood. And I pray him to get well soon."

In response to Edgar's next question, he paused a moment. "I believe there is an inn here, 'The Wolf's Den...or...Cave', I'm not sure which offhand. They cater to non-humans. You'll find more Kelvics and Dhanis and such there. You would fit right in, I'm sure. And I believe they have a 'per day' charge, rather than demanding a whole season's worth of fare." Now he grimaced slightly, "As for where it is located...uh...you've got me there. I'd suggest going to the Sanity Center as and asking Serenity. That's the red brick building just inside the big Maw entryway."

He looked back toward the shop, "Look, I...uh...have to get back to work. Is there anything else I can do to help?"

The Job (Edgar, Kuvarahk)

Postby Edgar on November 7th, 2014, 4:00 am

"N-no. Thank you. You've done m-more than enough. I'll be b-back in a day or two after I get set up."

Edgar looked up the night sky. The deep blackness of the night was already beginning to lighten. There was no way Edgar would be able to find his way back to the sanity center before dawn. He could probable avoid being noticed by sticking to the rooftops on his way there, but he would definitely be seen in the broad daylight when he tries to enter the building. And Edgar had no idea where his cloak was too. This day was looking like it was going to be terrible and it hadn't even started yet. Edgar took a deep breath, spread his wings, and flew up to the closest rooftop. He looked back to Kuvarahk on the ground as he wrapped his wings around himself. Edgar wasn't really sure how he was supposed to leave after what happened, but he needed to get going so he gave a quick parting wave and started to walk away.

The Job (Edgar, Kuvarahk)

Postby Darkalin Pinewood on November 8th, 2014, 10:12 pm

Darkalin had been in this building for a while, lying down in a rather comfy bed. He began calling for someone to explain what had happened. He called for what felt like bells, though was in reality only a few chimes. Eventually, someone came in. He sat down on a chair near the end of the bed, cleared his throat. He had four arms, and seemed very arrogant. "Well sir, how are you feeling? Hows your leg? Did I do excellent?" He seemed to be all arrogance. "Why? Why did I get stuck with the Arrogant doctor? He whispered, not wanting to hurt the mans feelings. "I can barely feel my leg. I guess you did pretty well. When can I leave?" He said, ending with a question of his own.

The doctor looked at his notes, and nodded slightly. "Sir, you won't be walking, much less leaving for at least 30 days. And, even then, I don't want you running or vaulting, or any other fast paced activities for another 60Kudos to Neo for the numbers." He said in his arrogant voice. Darkalin groaned. I wonder..... Is riding, just at a walk, a fast paced activity? It shouldn't be. He thought. Yes, this thought was quite appealing to him. He would still be able to do the job....Yes, yes indeed. He smiled a mischievous smile.

Quick note on this one, but just to reiterate, the house only has one mark in illusionism, so it wouldn't be able to make a flower that lasts long enough to go to the Bazaar. Other than that, nicely done! Kuv's confusion at everything that happened so suddenly gave me a good chuckle.

Please update your CS to reflect both legs broken in this thread. The healing time will remain the same, however, there will be definitive bumps where the bones fractured. High stress on his legs will sometimes cause him a bit of pain for about a season.

Alrighty. So please keep in mind that at 10 acrobatics, running along rooftops and jumping off of them is way outside of his skill level. As there wasn't a whole lot of description, I was under the impression he jumped from the building's roof onto the ground. Without rolling, this would snap a Symnestra's bones immediately, even with a competent acrobatics. Please keep this in mind for any and all future threads.
