Day 44 of Winter 514AV
The thieving shadow known as Incognito silently made his way through the deserted streets of Lhavit, footsteps almost too quiet to hear, body moving fast though carefully. This was one of the points where he could run into a patrol, he knew, and that was why the bat tried his hardest not to make any sound, something that should render him rather undetectable for the human ear. Well, almost anyway. His natural way of movement had been rubbing off on him, granting him with the grace and silentness of a sneak thief even if he walked normally, and even so, his motions were quiet.
Swiftly the Kelvic pressed his belly against the wall at the end of the alley, leaning in and taking a peek to scan for guards passing by. That he did not hear them did not necessarily mean that they weren't there, the guards were not always on the move, they could have been standing in wait motionlessly, not creating a sound. Fortunately though there were none there, and the other side was clear too, he could continue his way. A quick dash brought the thief to the other side of the street, leaving the intersection behind and swapping one set of shadows for the next, hiding in the dark as if he had never done anything else. Stealth was one thing Brandon was relatively good at, darkness was his cloak and friend, light his bane.
Illuminated streets were avoided for the most part, unless he had no choice. Even so, the faster he was out of the light, the less risk he faced of being seen, which was always great. Another problem was that the illuminated streets were the larger streets, the main streets of Lhavit as it were, and those were more commonly used for Shinya patrols. True, some routes did lead the guards through alleys and other dark places, but the alleys were small and maze-like, if one knew them well enough, one could slip past the guards without being noticed, taking another route on the spot to avoid them. Alleys were a thief's playground, their home turf. They were dark and confusing, small and resembled a maze, calling it the home turf or playground of the thieves was quite accurate.
Once there, the bat started to run, taking care to mind his footwork so he would not create the loud and typical sound running footsteps made. It was not a dash, but rather some form of jogging to increase speed, but one he could endure for a long while, not getting too tired and sweaty. A steady gait perhaps. Brandon made his way through the alleys swiftly, turning corners and vaulting over low obstacles, quickly scaling walls of dead ends to decrease the distance and time he had to travel. It was a bit of a long way to go, the Animation Studio's and the Starry Chalice's locations were not exactly close to each other. Brandon did not even take the time to shrug, he couldn't care less about the distance, making his escape would be the hard part.
His legs continued to run, eating away the distance bit by bit, step by step as the bat coursed through the network of alleys and streets, in a speedy though cautious manner. The patrol routes of the Shinya had been burned into his memory, the result of several days of observing them, as well as his built-up experience from thieving in the Crystal City for over a year. Should the guards have used a strict schedule for their rounds during the rest periods, like they did during the work bells, Brandon would have been able to predict where and when he would run into them and even plan out his route so he would not have to slow down and cross paths while they were in the vicinity. However, this was not possible, unfortunately.
