Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Orabelle began petting the large Imperial watcher and didn't even know it. She was really trying to listen to what Kavala was telling her."Back at my pod a large baby meant it was healthy,"Her smile faded a but when mentioning her pod,"It also meant we ate good for the pass seasons." She cringed a bit and began to miss her pod. There was really no reason for her to leave it, maybe because she wanted adventure, a lover and, many other things that involved her own selfish needs drawn her away from the pods. But out here, not on the sea, it's almost corrupted who Orabelle really is."I hope to survive, I would really love to be apart of a child's life. I'd do anything to deliver a healthy baby but I'd also do anything to survive. I am svefra and ephyrian and I heard they were most fragile. I don't think being both human and ephyrian will strengthen me." Orabelle tried to plaster a smile on her face. But she hated being a mixed blood. But she'd rather be a mixed blood than just a regular human."Kavala, if I were to ever become pregnant and deliver an akalak child, would you be there to assure I am safe?"

"I believe they're all good. Besides... ya know." Orabelle chimed in once she mentioned the akalaks."But I believe they're hiding something." She frowned when Kavala mentioned how they couldn't help but love the women who carry their children. Please do not tell me that. Orabelle thought to herself. That would make her feel guilty. It was vice versa for her. She would be afraid to die before they do and would try so hard not to love them either. Orabelle's childhood involved watching her parents resist loving each other. Although they've split when she was very young, mentioning the others name was like shooting an arrow through their heart and then tearing it out. Orabelle would try so hard to avoid falling in love. But most of the people she met in Riverfall have so much love for one another.

"I agree with you. I wouldn't either to be stuck with a man who would even consider the fact that you're pregnant, but just want someone to come home to and put all their stress on." Orabelle smiled and took a quick look around again."You did the right thing too! Look at what all you have!" Orabelle threw her hands up."This... it's all wonderful, I mean probably a lot of work but at the end of the day, this is all yours." She still had a smile until hearing that Kavala was a raid survivor." So they saved you and automatically you owed your life? They should've allowed you to find your way around. Soon a man would've swooned you."

She began liking the larger female. The very big dog look ready for anything, her head would quickly move, even when she heard the slightest noise. Orabelle knew she still wanted the silkena. The dog was beautiful and when she ran it was sort of a prance. If she were to ever start a family, Orabelle would get a dog to comfort herself and then another dog to protect and meet her children's need, urges to play and fight.

"So the imperial watchers are great for kids?" Orabelle asked."Well... I suppose both are great for kids. There both beautiful, I can't help but love them both. I sadly didn't even think about getting an imperial watcher but I love how calm she is." Orabelle brushed some hair back and used both hands to pet the dog.

"Act like you mean business." Orabelle nodded, repeating what Kavala had just said. Orabelle took a step back. She wanted to whistle like Kavala just did, but Orabelle didn't know how too. Instead she made a clicking noise that they used on the pod's ship when it was time for the children to help out or eat. The fratavan noise consisted of a few words like sister, brother, babies and love ones. It sounded like someone had gargle salt water and than began to spray it little by little.

The dogs heads cocked to the side. They didn't know what that just was but slowly began to respond. Ears low, tails tucked between their legs. Orabelle patted her knees and they went back to themselves, running towards her and than heeling at her feet."I did it!" Orabelle cheered as she began brushing the top of their heads.

Kavala was really enjoying Orabelle's visit. The way she watched the dogs, asked such intelligent questions and was flat out honest about her feelings impressed Kavala greatly. The Konti knew the other woman would thrive in Riverfall if she played her cards right and was smart about managing her debt or getting others to manage it for her through the Nakivak program.

Kavala watched Orabelle as she spoke about her pod and what healthy big babies meant. She nodded in agreement and strolled companionably along, laughing periodically at the pups and their antics. "You are going to survive. I can tell, your spark inside is way too bright to let something like an Akalak's child deter you. I just hope whomever picks you lets you raise the child too if that's your desire. These boys need mothers as well as fathers." Kavala said, not sure where Orabelle's opinion on staying with the baby fell. Her next words startled Kavala and made her peer closer at the other woman.

"You are part Ephyrian? I should have guessed. Your looks are so exotic from most of the humans I see here. They are washed out but your skin is golden. I know a pure Eypharian who lives here, Rosela, and she's brilliant with fabric." Kavala said, glad there was more - at least in part - of Rosela's kind floating about. "I bet your mother and father meeting was an interesting story. And yes.. humans are frail, but Eypharians have an easier time. Trust me on that one. I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but your mixed blood will make it easier. And if you haven't changed your mind by then, I'd love to attend your birth and help with your prenatal care. Like I said, we can induce early and keep the baby healthy and you alive if he gets too big. My own Konti daughter was premature. Two healers around the clock kept her going. She's doing much better now. I had no idea... " Kavala said, shaking her head softly and letting her hair fall around her face partially concealing her expression of sorrow.

"I'm glad you think they are all good. They all can be good. Sometimes I think bad people just need good people to show them the way."
Kavala said, touching Orabelle's elbow gently and looking thoughtful. There was almost a fate on the woman, the Konti decided, one that was driving her here to Riverfall. Had she been marked by Rak'keli, she would have snuck a peak. But being marked by the healer instead, her ways of looking back were rather involved and touched on dreams not divination.

Kavala laughed lightly at Orabelle's next words. "Of course they are hiding something. They are men. You may or may not know this, but the Akalaks are very special. Each man has two souls in his body. Each soul has his own name, his own personality, and each one has his own opinions. These children's father is Riaris and his dark brother is Recoomas. They get along well, but in some Akalaks its not always so. No one tells you this coming to Riverfall, but the more you are here, the more you start to question your own sanity or swear people have twins walking around. They hide it well, but its not a known fact outside of Riverfall." Kavala added hoping Orabelle already knew this. If not, then Kavala was glad she told her. It would save her a wicked surprise when she finally started meeting Akalaks.

Kavala nodded. "I wouldn't trade my children for all the gold in the world." She said, smiling down at Ia'del.

"They are both great for kids. The Silkena will keep them tired out romping around and the Imperal Watcher will guard them with its life and never raise a hair or snarl when they climb on it, tug its ears, and all the usual things kids do to animals. You know... I think you'd make a good dog parent. Why don't you take them both, Orabelle? I'll set you up with some supplies you need and food, but how about you just let me make them a gift to you?" She asked knowing she needed to thin down her dogs and in order to do so she wanted to find them really really good homes. Orabelle would be a good home.

When Orabelle got them to successfully heel, Kavala grinned. "That's great. Once you have them with you for a while, you can teach them to sit, lay, shake hands, fetch things, pick up things you drop, and all kinds of other commands. And you can always bring them back here for dog training lessons. We have several people that know their stuff." Kavala said. She looked thougthful, then wanted to broach something else with Orabelle.

"So do you know what you want to do beyond having babies? I mean it might be something to think about and get started on when you are working as a Nakivak. You'll have lots of time to get things started and a steady income besides. That's how I built up this place. I could help you get started on your own project. Why.. you could even learn to train dogs and raise them. Ever thought about that?" Kavala grinned, half joking, but in all honesty trying to feel out the woman to see where she saw her life going.

The dogs ambushed her with love. The silkena would lick her face than run around energetically, than it would come back and rub itself against Orabelle as if she were a cat. The large imperial watcher waited for Orabelle to kneel before positioning herself underneath one arm and slowly licking Orabelle's face. "Really? Thanks." She grinned at Kavala, most of her attention was on the konti now. Orabelle hoped she would be able to become friends with Kavala. She was really positive and kind. Orabelle wondered if it was because she had motherly instincts or if she was really that nice."But your spark is a lot brighter and better than mine. You have so much potential and intelligence." Orabelle stood up straight and looked Kavala deep in her eyes. Orabelle looked calm and very happy at her.

"I believe I heard of Rosela... and she sounds a bit like my mother." Orabelle chuckled."My mother was very talented and prideful. My mother just knew that every where she went, people would just fell in love with her. As for my dad... well there's not much for me to say about him. He loved me... and that's kind of what matters."She sighed."I just wish he didn't play so many women. I'm suck and tired of running into siblings in every city I pass. It's kind of horrifying knowing that you might have dated a brother or fought a sister." Orabelle smiled at Ralac and la'del. He was so big compared to his sister." I believe the only thing I changed my mind about is how many Akalak children I want." Orabelle was too excited to hide it."You don't know how much it means to me to know that you'll be there for me!"

Her eyes got a little bigger."So they're not complete psychos with multiple personality." Orabelle teased and began laughing again. But it did explain a,lot. Some days she'll run into the same Akalaks and wonder why one day they'll noticed her and the next they just ignore her like she did something wrong."Children are all the gold in the world. They're just as valuable."

Orabelle watched both dogs as Kavala began to talk, nodding and listening. But one part caught her off guard." Really? That's really kind of you!" She cocked a smile."I promise you Kavala, you left your dogs in good hands!" She jumped a bit more excited than she was before. Orabelle ran over to hug Kavala, she hugged her lightly so that her body was not covering neither babies."Thanks you, thank you." She stepped back, still grinning hard.

"I don't think I would ever be able to do something like this." Orabelle waved her hand in the air."But I am really good with hair and makeup. Kind of what I trained for... and I would just like to help the women of Riverfall looked their best everyday, you know?" She looked at Ralac again and smiled." Children isn't all I want. I just want a very small shop I can manage doing hair and makeup." She shrugged as if it weren't a big deal and it wasn't in her eyes. It just seemed like a small goal.

Kavala met Orabelle’s gaze and enjoyed listening to her speak about her mother and the past. She reached out and patted her arm when Orabelle dropped the hint about her father and his philandering ways. She could relate, though not in the way Orabelle might think. “I grew up with two half brothers who were very different in ages. I found out that one of my half brothers, one who was adopted into the pavilion, was not in fact a half brother but was my half-brother’s … son. Our father took him in because my half brother was too immature to raise a child. I believe he sired him on a girl when he was like twelve or thirteen and she was not that much older. It happens. But I’m glad they were both in my lives. You should be glad to have family as well. Family means everything, really. We can’t pick them but we can pick and choose which of them we want to be with and why.. .and then select our friends. I’d really like you and I to be friends, Orabelle… even family. I think, in a way, all past and present Nakivak are.” Kavala admitted, then hugged Orabelle gently when the girl confessed how glad she was Kav would be there to treat her throughout her pregnancy.

Kavala tipped her head back and laughed when Orabelle said what she said about the Akalak being psychos and having multiple personalities. “No no.. they aren’t. But I can see how someone would think that if they didn’t know the truth.” They talked a bit more, both laughing and hugging again, before Orabelle shared her dream with Kavala.

The healer smiled and nodded. “That’s a fantastic idea. I would come to get my hair done at your place and take some lessons in cosmetics or even buy some. Heck, you could even make your own line of cosmetics. I know we’ve made soap, shampoo, and just about everything else here. You should come over for a play day here soon… I’ll get Cadra to babysit and we can make cosmetics or at least attempt too. I’ve always wanted to do that and though I’m terrible at applying them, I’m a great philterer.. and maybe we could work on starting you your own line. Do you have a place lined up to cut hair? There are great shops vacant in Riverfall you could use. Oh.. Orabelle, that’s exciting. You should start immediately and get going with your business.. so you can pay off any debt to Riverfall and be picky about who you want as a Talvis instead of just having to accept anyone that wanders by.” She said, excited for the half-breed and knowing she’d do fantastically well at a business.

“It will be so nice to have other business leaders in the community too. I know I lean on Rosela’s expertise a lot in terms of fashion. I’m sure there’s a big niche to fill for women wanting a beauty expert as well.” Kavala said, happy that someone was thinking about starting that kind of business.

“Is there anything I can do to help?”
Kavala asked, suddenly stopping at a bench and taking a seat. It was evident that the Konti wasn’t all that strong after her birth and still had a ways to go before her recovery.

Orabelle found herself liking the imperial watcher a bit, more than the silkena, and it was mainly because of her maturity level, which was a lot higher than the young pup. In her mind, she began comparing the dogs to the dolphins she's encountered. An older female dolphin has a higher maturity level too, and it was mainly because of their birth of babies. Orabelle felt she could apply that to this situation. The imperial watcher, who she decided to call Dots had probably birthed a great amount of puppies. Unlike the young silkena, Beauty would be her name, who had probably had none she judged by her puppy face."Very interesting. Your father was brave, and your brother must've been a heartthrob attracting older girls." She joked, a small smile indicated that." I am the youngest of all my fathers children and the oldest of NY mothers, who got married again after my father to a rich ephyrian man. They had my sister who too had a child at a very young age. But sadly she's a harlot and couldn't pin-point the child's dad." She nodded. When Kavala admitted to wanting to be her friend, she couldn't help but gasp and hug her back, only tighter."Really? I wouldn't think you'd consider someone like me. I am not civilized like the rest of the fancy women who walk Riverfall." She felt a bit overwhelmed.

"I find the akalak men attractive. They're the colors of the sea! No, no to be honest to Laviku, I just love the human environment they've provided. They're nothing like Syliras, a city I find uptight but nothing like Sunberth. They're perfectly in the middle. Akalak men are just great people to be around, and they attract wonderful people like the konti women. I find the konti race beautiful." The respectful women shared another hug and Orabelle couldn't help but feel happy.

"The problem with my business proposal and that I don't think I could manage a business on my own. I would Love to do your hair, and even LOVE giving lessons. As for creating... well I'm only good at applying makeup." Orabelle said sounding embarrassed." I would definitely love to come over here and create things with you. Your knowledge on philtering is better than mine. A place to cut hair? None whatsoever, although I wish to have one."

When she mention the ephyrian, Orabelle smiled."I believe we talked and she's excellent. My keen eye for fashion though us not as good as it is for makeup." Orabelle told her. Orabelle took a seat and shook her head."You could definitely come sit in a chair whenever this all happens."

Kavala shook her head. “Oh no… you COULD manage one on your own. Give yourself more credit. I can already tell your smart, know what you want, and have your life a bit planned out. If you can do hair, makeup, and give lessons, then that’s all you need for a good business… keeping the books is simple. You just need a place, your supplies, and a clientele. If you can get that, you’re all good to go and then you have your own income and you aren’t dependent upon anyone else ever to supply your needs. Trust me, working for yourself or working in a partnership with one or two other people is a lot better than being someone’s employee.” Kavala said, nodding thoughtfully.

“Besides, Riverfall doesn’t have anything like that. I mean they do during the Beautyfest, but its once a year. We do need full time barbers and a place us ladies can go to shop to be pretty.” She added, smiling. Kavala leaned back on the bench, tired after just this short interaction with Orabelle. She was glad the mixed blooded woman wasn’t pressing her to continue the walk. The Konti needed a few more minutes before they continued.

“I’m sorry I’m sitting on this bench. It’s just.. .since the babies have been born, I’m exhausted. And I have this trainer… hes an Akalak named Anir… he’s brutal. I think the guy has driven me harder physically than anyone else I have worked with. He’s trying to get me back in shape in an impossibly short amount of time. The guy is handsome as sin, but I dread meeting him every day because he’s a real taskmaster. Everything hurts when I get done and then I sit around for hours afterwards recovering. But I am getting stronger. Slowly but surly – pray you don’t have twins.” Kavala said with a grin, and ran her hands across the heads of the children she carried.

As if on cue, Cadra and Larik came around the corner, walking together. Well, Larik was walking and Cadra was skipping, almost like she’d been chasing butterflies. “Aunt! There you are. I came to get the babies with Larik. We want to give them baths while the weather is so much warmer today. That okay? Larik said he’d help.” Cadra said, and Kavala nodded gratefully, turning the two infants carefully over to her twin nieces and nephews. The pair were there, had the infants, and gone in a heartbeat.

“I swear that was the lamest excuse I have ever heard to give me a break from the children.” Kavala said, laughing slightly. She looked relieved though, and more tired than she really had a right to be. Then she smiled.

“I have a proposition for you. Why don’t you come here once every few days and use the labs we have set up and work on making cosmetics. I have some great recipes and I know a lot about philtering… I can teach you. Maybe even create a line of your own. Then in exchange, you can work on my hair and teach me about how to use makeup? I could really use the lessons. With the children’s father out of the picture, I’m not going to be known as an old woman when I’m only just barely out of my teens as a Konti.” Kavala said, laughing. She glanced at Orabelle and wondered what she thought of the offer.

Orabelle was surprised at how much Kavala believed in her."You really- thank you." This whole entire time she had done nothing but smile. It was nice to know someone believed in her."I guess I could go into a partnership. I do agree too, working underneath someone kind of sucks. I kind of envy you!" Orabelle giggled." You own all of this, and you're your own boss. That's very cool. I wish to work up to something like this." She crossed her long legs and tilted her head and propped her arm up to hold it there.

"I believed that surprised me the most. A mean I know this town consist most of the Akalak race but the women who come here... the ones who show a great deal of attraction to these men, never thought of a small salon. A place where women can chat but beautify themselves? Very surprising." She paused to think about what she just said and shook her head." Then again, the akalaks don't worry too much about their looks. They care more about their training, which most likely influences most of the women around here. I believe a good percentage of women around here are too busy being nakivaks - a big responsibility- or just trying to gain a higher status in Riverfall." She shrugged."That's what I kind of summed up." Orabelle preferred sitting up. She didn't mind sitting down, it had given her more time to study kavala who seemed kind of tired right now. Orabelle hoped she wasn't in any bad pain.

"It's alright. I do not mind. Anir had done a fine job. I can hardly tell you even had a child! Maybe he could help me get into shape too." Orabelle laughed although she was serious. She had what the svefran women called a sailor man's curse. A body of a man." Twins? That's a blessing. A pray not to have a girl, although I doubt a human can ever have a female child with an akalak. It's a curse that has been passed down. There's never been a male born in the family, and all of ahnatep knows it. I would like to bring the first boy into the family though."

Larik and Cadra came and took the children and Orabelle smiled. It was amazing how much they helped Kavala out. She thought they were sincere."Lame, but kind of cute." Orabelle laughed." I don't know how many nieces and nephews I have but the one I do have is a stubborn teenage konti who acts more like an akalak then a akalak does. I can see myself having a baby and she wouldn't touch it until it gets older and can put up a fight."

Orabelle nodded in agreement to Kavala's proposition."Okay. Sounds like a great deal to me. I'm looking forward to making my own cosmetics. Try to make foundation stronger. It's my biggest problem right now. I have a million hair tips and styles too!" There was a lot of hyper in Orabelle's voice." I do all types of hair styles and safe dyes on my hair. I left my teens a long time ago. I think I'll miss it..."

Orabelle, if you return and want a grade for this, please shoot me a PM.

Additional Notes :
This was hard to grade. There were multiple things in here that I would have awarded XP for, but you were maxed out or had very high levels. Don't hesitate to let me know if you feel something was incorrectly awarded. On a side note, this was a thread I really wished I could award Socialization for. Normally Socialization is awarded for just simple socializing, but Kavala pulls it off very well. She effectively asks questions and offers her own opinion in a way that really includes and engages a person in the conversation. I feel this thread shows a skillful use of what some consider a mundane skill.

If you have any questions or concerns relevant to your grade, don't be afraid to send me a private message so that we can work it all out! Please remember to mark your Grading Request as Graded.

A shout-out to Ollic Rimesage, who was kind enough to make this template for me.
