Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Petchhhhh, she groaned internally when sleep slipped away from her and delivered her back into the waking world. Bronze hands slipped up from beneath the sheets to rub at her shut eyes. A gentle throb in her head reminded her of last night's wine, but thankfully her stomach didn't lurch at the thought. Her right hand fell off her face to fish along the night stand. Her arm sent something clattering to the floor and the Myrian wincing along at the sudden sound. Gods dammit! She laid there pathetically for a tick before she found the motivation to shoot her eyes open and roll over to investigate the damage. Peering over the bed, she was pleased to find that no wine had become a casualty due to her clumsiness. At least she wasn't guilty of that kind of alcohol abuse. Still, the wine skin laid there upon the wooden floor where it had dropped with the cap popped off, which meant she finished off what she had bought not so long ago. The Myrian swung her legs over the side of the bed and let her amber eyes gaze off across the room.

Come on. Wake your sorry ass up. No do-nothing bitches here, remember? She shook herself awake and groaned before sliding her feet onto the floor. She picked the wine skin up off the floor and placed it upon the dresser. Then it was on to trudging across the room to her dresser. Copper-toned hands threw open drawers and fished within them, yanking out the proper clothing and practically tossing them behind her in hopes they made it to the bed. Then she retreated back to sit upon the bed, picking up failed attempts at throws as she went. Once seated, it was all a matter of remembering the right order of clothing in her drunken head. First came the loincloth of course. She tugged it up snugly upon her hips. Then the buck skin leather leggings were tugged up her legs to cover what the breech cloth failed to. Next came the leather vest she shrugged over her shoulders and fastened in the middle with a single button. There. Dressed. Boots were slipped on and her cloak was thrown about her shoulders. Even her weapons belt with the gladius sheath attached was remembered upon her waist. This time she didn't bother grabbing her backpack. Petch, she even left the wine skin behind and empty. Today she had a more solemn practice in mind as she headed out the door.

Abilities. That's all anyone could talk about. Abilities, abilities, abilities. They stressed out the council, angered those who were neglected, struck fear into the hearts of those who had seen true power, and overall left the city in public relations chaos. Once she'd sat in the Blue Bull one afternoon shortly after the Council's public announcement acknowledging the manifestation of powers among its denizens. For a while she was content to be alone, seated far from most others to drink away the minor anxiety that threatened to become something more. She could never get far enough away. A few seats down she'd noticed a green Akalak glancing at her from time to time as they drank. The entire time she'd been there he'd been gushing to others about the religious implications of the manifestations. For the most part she managed to tune him out. Then, of course, he eventually moved on to include the jungle-girl in his conspiracy talk.

"What about you, Myrian? Any secret abilities we should know about?" he'd cooed at her with an arched brow and a smug grin. The Myrian had lowered her drink from her mouth and curled her lips into the most sarcastic smile she could muster.
"Does day drinking count?" Kaie had countered him before she took another drink. Needless to say, the man had laughed it off and chalked up her misfortune to her disconnection from Akajia and Wysar. If only he'd known the truth...but she was glad he didn't. Yet the more she'd explored the world around her since the manifestation of her impulses and intuitions, the more curious she'd become. The fear of the unexplained gift was slowly beginning to ebb in favor of a dauntless desire to test it actively. Thus far she'd been able to connect to those around her. It seemed that when something or someone intended to do her harm she could...sense it somehow. And sometimes just before she should've been nailed by some unprecedented attack, her body screamed at her to move off her center point and out of the way. It was about time she put the wine away for a few bells and both honored Myri and discovered her capabilities.

The tick she entered the Tuyva Sasaran, the boots came off and were carefully stored to the side. Dozens of pairs of eyes stared at the woman who entered, most of them belonging to the city's patriarch. It was uncomfortable, but not new to the woman. She'd been to the Tuyva Sasaran at least twice before. Some Akalak that trained there knew that Myrian women were some of the fiercest combatants in Falyndar's jungle. Sooner or later, someone would want to test the stigma out for themselves. Kaie was counting on it...but not right away. No, this time would be different. The Myrian woman busied herself right away as to avoid any chance of being immediately disturbed. She found a spot on a nearby mat and began stretching. As she stretched her amber eyes scanned the establishment in search of the perfect combatant. Really, she was just waiting for her gift to do its thing. Before long...

There!

She felt it as though someone had prodded her with a stick or tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention. It wasn't a powerful sensation. It was rather subtle. Challenging. Only a few fighters were in her vicinity, but she couldn't quite pin-point the source of her discomfort. Someone wanted to bring her down. But who? It didn't take too much searching. With a hard oof a deep green Akalak hurled his opponent over his shoulder, causing him to slam down upon the mats on his back. The young man sputtered, gasping and giving the mat a solid tap to communicate he'd indeed had had enough. The dark green Akalak looked Kaie's way again, and continued to do so even after he bowed to his defeated opponent, and wandered to the side of the mats to clean himself off. The Myrian rose to her feet and approached him.

"Got enough left in you for another round?" she inquired steadily, arching a brow at the man. The deep green man took a long drink of water and wiped a bead of sweat off his forehead with a towel. "Honey, I've got enough to go all afternoon," he suggested with a smug laugh. The Myrian blinked. Yup. We're going to have to kick his ass at all costs. He winked at her and tossed the towel aside. "So you gonna ask me to tangle legs with you on the mat in a chime or what?"
"I'm gonna ask you for a spar so I can find an excuse to jam my shin between your legs."
"Easy, jungle cat. If you wanted to get between my legs you just had to say so from the start. My last spar was a warm-up, but I'm betting we can get a nice workout in, no?" He put his water down and flashed her bright white teeth, backing up until he was back in a clear section of mats. He raised both his hands and gestured for her to give him her best shot. For a tick she curled her lip.

Whatever you are, Gift, please don't fail me now.

Kaie entered onto the mats with bare feet. She stomped her left foot twice, then her right foot twice. Then both feet stomped the ground. Her new green friend swung his arms to free up his shoulders while she shook out her hands. "Just remember to tap when you've had enough of Yahmi, alright?" She gave an airy snort at that, and without further ado, the pair settled into their personal combat stances. Kaie dipped low in a predatory crouch. Her legs were spread about shoulder-width apart with her left leg leading. Knees were bent, body was relaxed and bent forward, elbows hung close to her body, and her open hands were raised in a guard before her face. Yahmi's stance was more straight-up in stature. She couldn't help but grin at that. The two circled each other carefully, one or the other moving forward to test how the other would react. She hung back, waiting like a patient tigress hidden beneath the grass at the water hole. It didn't take long for Yahmi's patience to wear out.

He stepped forward in a flash and cocked his arm back for a forward strike. Amber eyes widened, adrenaline began to enter her bloodstream, and her feet felt absolutely compelled to pivot off her center point. The straight punch cam soaring high for her face, and the Myrian gave into her impulse. She side-stepped away from the strike, and used the new position to send a right kick just above his knees. Yahmi grunted at that and fought the urge to hop off his leg entirely. Instead he brought it up for a tick before forcing it back down to hold weight and battle the cramp. Anger drove him to strike again, this time with a right hook that rocketed for his cheek. The impulse came again, and with the help of the ability to anticipate with what she could already see, the Myrian bob-and-weaved beneath the strike. Before popping back up, she sent a right hook of her own into the side of his exposed rib cage. As he howled and sent her reeling back out of caution, she couldn't help but grin at the consistency of her gift.

Yahmi was a proud fighter, though. There was no denying that. It was clear in his nature to the bold woman before their battle started. He would not be so easily and willingly beaten down by a foreigner, especially not a foreign girl of all the terrible things! With a grunt he shot low for her knees. The warning in her head came as it was expect and the impulse was born, but the Myrian failed to succumb to it. Only one leg stepped back in time to avoid the wrangling attempts by his great green arms. They wrapped around the available left foot as he plowed forward, using his momentum to try to barrel her over with sheer force and iron will. With one of her legs firmly controlled, the Myrian had little choice.

She went down on her back. Her long copper-skinned arms flung out beside her to slap the mat to absorb some of the shock from the fall. Then her hands shot up to guard her face. She tipped her pelvis down so that the hip bone that remained grounded belonged to the same side where her leg was still captured. Her free right leg shot out to plant a vicious heel straight at his head. He looked up in time to see it coming and avoid the brutal attempt, but it did not save him when the foot shot out again. It cracked him right in the near shoulder as he worked to advance to a new position of dominance over her. Yahmi flung back onto his own rear. Her right leg came down to touch the mat, she propped herself up on her left elbow, and simultaneously utilized both to lift her body and shoot the left leg in beneath her. It was a quick trick to find her feet, and before long the pair were squared off to trade daggers as they gazed hatefully at one another.

Let's see if there's any change when I move to the offensive, Kaie mused before lunging forward to feign a jab before shooting her right cross in for a straight punch. Yahmi initially fell for it. He dodged to his left to remove himself from the projected line of the jab's attack, only to place him directly in the way of the cross that crushed his face. It was a satisfying thing for her to behold, watching her knuckles grace his cheek with a destructive awe. His head turn but he was quick to retaliate. So lost in her own execution and enjoyment in his pain, Kaie was late to heed the advice of the impulse yet again. Yahmi threw a quick and desperate punch that struck her middle as he stumbled a step off to the side, nearly doubling her over in surprise. Forget the stupid little victories, Kaie!, she scolded herself with a slow back-pedal that gave her time to find her breath again. Yahmi would give her but little time for that luxury. He planted a foot to end his bout of misbalance and rushed her. When he entered range he planted a foot on the ground and threw a round house kick high for her head. She felt the sensation to move, but at the last second she chose to ignore the impulse on purpose this time. Yet it was not an easy task. The urge to move was overwhelming, so much so that it consumed her. She could not think of anything else, register anything else. Only the primal instinct mattered, and yet the warrior heart born from conditioning and muscle memory protested it. The whole of her focus was dedicated to remaining loyal to her own technique before the strange self-preservation altered her rhythm.

It took all her mental strength to stand idle and simply let the kick come. Both arms shifted to block the left side of her head, but as his shin came close to making contact with her improvised shield, the right arm blending with the kick and swept it harmlessly past her her body as she took a small step back. Yahmi's body were forced to move with the redirection of his kick, turning him away from her so that his flank was exposed. It was at that point the Myrian changed it up. She lunged forward and planted herself so that their hips practically brushed, right hand shooting up tand across his body to grasp his left shoulder. The left hand caught a hold of his left elbow. Then, before he knew it, the savage reaped his leg out from under him with her right calf and threw him down onto his back. Kaie followed him to the ground and settled her right knee on his rib cage. Her left leg shot out to provide a steady base. Yahmi's eyes went wide and his hands rose all too late. Her right fist slammed beside his head into the mats.

Fiery eyes gazed down into ones paralyzed by sheer shock, frozen at the reality that his fall had come so quickly when he thought he was just about to gain an edge on his opponent. Her fierce combative mask broke with a broad grin. Yahmi slammed his palms against the mats and threw her knee off his rib cage. "Again!" he shouted loud enough to make some other sparring partners turn their heads and raise their brows. A few chuckled at his reaction to failure. Others merely rolled their eyes at his outburst and resumed their solemn training. The Myrian backed off and shrugged out her shoulders. "Sure, sure. Like you said, we could go all afternoon," she obliged while fighting a smile. Yahmi rolled to his feet and let his eyes dart around the room toward fellow Akalak faces. "Just throw a petching punch at me already." Kaie exhaled and shrugged her shoulders. Have it your way.

The copper-skinned woman dropped down into her combative stance in sync with the dark green Akalak. She shot her leading left hand toward his face, only to deceive him with a right straight punch toward his head. Will reignited by pride, the man's left hand surged up to catch her wrist. Kaie grit her teeth and compensated by coming in to start a clinch before he could immediately counter. Her left hand clutched his right shoulder and her head ducked to watch his body. Twice, much to her annoyance, Yahmi's heels tried to cheaply slam down upon her toes, causing her to follow the instinct that warned her to move them from where they stood. Gotta get out, gotta get out before he thinks of something clever, her mind reeled. There was still no telling if her ability could be exhausted or if there was some sort of unfortunate loop hole after all. She wrestled her right wrist through his grip until she managed to cup his elbow, continuing to struggle against him in the clinch. Without warning, she rushed two steps forward, causing him to compensate with two steps back to keep his balance. Then she turned the tables on him again, twisting her body around into him and lifting him up and over her hips. Yahmi dropped with a hmph! but managed to return the favor in short order. While on his back, it only took him a tick to tangle his legs around one of her and rip her down to his level. Too quick and close was he that the Myrian hadn't the chance to act upon impulse.

Kaie crashed down on her stomach beside him. Shyke! She braced her hands against the mats and attempted to race to her feet. Her Akalak opponent proved faster. The best she accomplished was managing to roll over before he was upon her. The green man mounted himself between her legs and trapped her hands up over her head with his own. Kaie growled, squirming beneath his hips as if she had a thought to throw him off with sheer will. Yahmi laughed at that, lowering his head down toward her face with a stupidly smug grin. "Would you look at that! You've got me right where you want me, don't you savage?" he lulled to her with a flash of bright whites, eyes practically glowing with the impending victory and a generous amount of pompousness. Her lips curls in an animal-like show of aggression just before she threw her forehead forward to meet his face. Yahmi howled as his head rocked back with the impact, loosening his grip on her hands just long enough for them to break free. They shot down to grip him under his right arm and on his left shoulder, while her left leg wrapped over his right. Not a tick later, hips bucked him up and over her left shoulder while she hung on for the ride. Now it was Yahmi's turn to lay flat and vulnerable on his back while the Myrian exercised her superiority.

"It looks like I do! Aw, where'd the smile go? Don't tell me I've got you all humble now..." she sung back as she modified her position so that she was seated right on top of his hips. Her hands adjusted so that they clasped beneath him with her right arm forcing his left arm up against his own cheek, and the left wrapped around his neck to meet the other hand beside Yahmi's right ear. It essentially effectively formed a vice she triggered when she slunk her body low only to shoot forward into him. Pulling her hands toward her while she drove her right shoulder sideways into his throat, her hips shot over him to settle into a sprawl position on his left side. Then she began rotating her body up toward his head. It wasn't long before the expected choking sound came from her arm triangle choke hold. She felt him wriggle and hurl what he could at her with his free arm. It was all in vain. The Myrian had her head safely tucked low toward the mats and out of his range. The violent thrashing in his quest to avoid submission weakened quickly. Soon enough the desperate tapping on her choking arm was all the strength he had left. Thus, she released him.

[Tuyva Sasaran] Mano A Mano

Something was wrong. Really wrong. Her conscious, working mind was tugged out from under her. It was overwhelmed and bullied from control, leaving only a primal brain with eyes wide and nerves on end. Kaie all but threw herself to her feet and created several steps space distancing herself from Yahmi. Her fists came up, lips curling, and body low. Slowly, the more space she created from her opponent, the more the intensity of her need to ensure self-preservation faded to take the reigns from the Myrian animal. The conscious mind of Kaie happily returned to control, but the ticks of fear motivation were not forgotten. Yahmi slammed his palms down on the mats and let out a vicious yell of frustration unfit for the Tuyva Sasaran. He sat up, rubbing at his throat with something completely new and angry in his eyes. It was as if the failures thus far had vanquished the cocky Akalak and someone else entirely had possessed him. Thanks, strange-unexplained gift, but I can tell he wants to hurt me without you right now.

"Again!" came Yahmi's roar along with another slam against the mats. He tore himself up to his feet, veins practically popping from his temples. Even Kaie was starting to become uncomfortable. Turning to spy behind her, she didn't really need to see the faces staring to know many eyes were looking down upon them.
"Only one way to find out if the third time really is a charm, right" Now his arms had started to shake with balled up fists. The Myrian exhaled sharply at that. Ohhh now this is about to get fun. Without further ado he sprinted at her full speed. She let him. The two collided, but the savage wasn't wholly unprepared. She dared herself to resist the obsession her entire being had to get out of the way. She had to still remember herself. She had to remember to stand her ground and fight despite the wrecking ball headed her way.

Kaie started a clinch with him the tick the two met in his charge. At first her legs tried to resist his force, working for a base while her body shoved forward against her. It was a losing battle, and so she did the next best thing: let the enraged Akalak have his way. She wrapped her left arm behind his right arm, and her right arm up over his right shoulder until both hands clasped behind the back. Then she relented. Her body fell back in a controlled fall. With her on her back and him locked up in her grasp while in her guard on his knees, it was only a matter of strategy for the Myrian what to do next. A grin flashed for a second when the plan came together. That's when the Akalak gave a defiant holler and lifted the two of them up off the ground. I'm am so petched right now, was the only thought the savage was privileged before she was slammed down with the force of a deity onto the mats. Air whooshed from her lungs. Hands dropped and her eyes blinked where she laid. Yahmi rose to pummel down upon her and all she had the strength to do was lift her hands to block her face. His dark eyes narrowed at that and it seemed the old combatant was back. He pumped a green fist in the air, sweating as profusely as the downed Myrian. The man doubled over to catch his breath for a chime while she recovered. Then he finally reached his hand down toward her.

Kaie let out a sore growl and smacked the hand away with a fist. The first time she tried to sit up didn't get her far, but by the second she was successful and shaking the pain from her head. Hands wandered down to shove herself up onto momentarily unsteady feet. "Turns out it is," he said between breaths. The Myrian squinted her eyes at him and shrugged her shoulders.
"It is what?"
"A charm. You know, the third time."

"Piss off. If I had it my way you'd be choked out and without the use of one arm."
Yahmi moved his lips bitterly, trying to find a way to combat that idea. He shook his head and extended his hand. "Well, you're a damned good sparring partner...even for a woman and savage. Thanks for humbling me."

"Yeah, well...I'll be looking forward to humbling you some more before I leave this city." Her bronze hand clasped his in a shake. Yahmi laughed and nodded his head, fighting an amused smile on dark green lips. "And that will be fine by me." He released her hand and moved away from the mats to find his water and towel. Kaie exhaled and took a chime before she began to wander for the door. Several pairs of Akalak stopped to stare at the Myrian female as she passed, but the woman paid them little more than a side-eye.

One bladed boot and then the next was put on. Next came the cloak and the backpack. From there she was off again, out to further explore the city or perhaps drink her way to the bottom of a mug.

Always a joy to see you kickin' ass, babe! I can tell that there was a lot of research done to make this feel authentic, and I'm impressed that you didn't let it get so technical it was boring. Keep an eye on that, though: it's an easy trap to fall in to.

Aside from that, I couldn't give you much as far as Unarmed Combat went simply because you're at Master-level already. Reeeeeeally gotta work for it now, love!

Oh, and please make sure you go back and edit your post in the Request Thread to reflect the fact this one is now done and dusted. PM me with any questions and later 'tater!
