Morning of 78 Fall 516

Clyde let out a sigh as he waited. Normally he wasn't a patient man, though through training and meditation he'd learned some aspect of the quality.

Still, he didn't enjoy waiting, preferring to find something or other to do than to sit about and do nothing. In this case it was his own fault, as he had shown up early, something he also had a habit of doing. After a few cleansing deep breaths followed by slow exhales, he felt the tension slowly leaking out of his body. In his minds eye he focused on an image of a candle burning in darkness, an image he called upon more out of a sense of nostalgia than an actual need for the mental focus.

Only a day or so ago he'd heard from a source about a possible person to look into. A possible person of use to the Stryfe. A possible person of use to Clyde. Or perhaps both. So he'd gotten a few brief fragments of information about what he did, and sent a note requesting a job in the man's trade- mercenary work. He'd simply signed it Clyde, not going into more detail or revealing himself and cloaking himself in the somewhat common single name. He'd never met the man, nor he Clyde, so he had no reason to know who he was.

He'd settled upon a portion of himself that fit the needed exchange, not an outright lie or deception but more a case of omission. As he'd ridden the ferry to the lakeshore he'd thought on himself, his actions and personality, how he acted. Taking away the magic, the power, the reality to back up who he was, and what was he left with?

A crazy person more or less in less generous terms. Perhaps an eccentric or odd fellow in more kind ones.

It was an act that was perhaps less than an act and at the same time more after some of the things Clyde had experienced and lived through.

His note had simply stated he needed an escort a ways out of Ravok proper, a short expedition or trip into the wilds no more than a days trek, and to look for the man with the blue staff.

In exchange he'd pay 50 gm to guarantee his safety there and back, letting the merc gather the needed supplies as he saw fit and figure out his own costs to do so.

In truth it was a test. A test to see how he prepared, how he acted, what he did, and any other number of things.

What he'd find Clyde wasn't sure, standing a short way off the trail from the trading post and ferry landing, just far enough to be out of the way but still easily from the trail.

He wore his more simple clothes, a pack on his back with his camping gear, and Cha in his hand. The blue wooden staff was perhaps distinctive, but Clyde wouldn't be parted from it, and he doubted it was well enough known by random citizens of the city.

Letting out another breath Clyde waited, stroking his hand along the wood of Cha, watching people head along the trail one by one.

It was early enough that traffic was light, a few hunters and other such people heading out of the city, but few enough besides that.

Nitrozian Estate

PT. 1

"You have yourself a letter sir." It was one of the guards at the Nitrozian Estate. His heavy breathing meant that he rushed his way with a quick pace over here and he looked fairly worn out. The Nitrozian stood by his bedroom door after he heard the sudden knocks banging on his door. He knew that his siblings heard it all. Though, it wasn't too early in the morning, just a fair bit later. Benare, he himself was sweating and breathing quite so, he was working out this morning, as per usual. The NItrozian was sure that doing push ups and sit ups and every other work out known to man would wake him up. It did, and the knocking on his door bothered him, which made him slightly concerned, but upset at the same time. So the man just opened the door and was greeted by one of the guards. He didn't like sudden interruptions.

Benare took hold of the letter and shooed the guard away. The guard nodded and hurried off back to his post.

Benare waited as the man was further down the hall before closing the door.

"What could this letter mean?"The Nitrozian said as he held the letter with nearly shaken hands. He was nervous, but also eager to discover the information written inside.

He opened it up carefully and was certain that it was just some paranoid letter from one of the locals in Ravok. Probably annoyed about the Nitrozians, or something.

Once the envelope was opened, Benare had taken a look at the letter as he pulled it out and unfolded it. The paper felt fairly new, and it was quite wrinkled.

The letter asked for trades in mercenary work. That's what Benare did of course. Working with the Crescent Circle. The NItrozian needs to figure out more of what they do.

Benare got dressed and gathered his money. If he were to meet at the Southern Outpost, he needs to be prepared.

Benare gathered his things and placed them all inside his pack, especially the preserves that he bought in the market a couple days ago. He didn't just slam everything into his pack, being a Nitrozian meant taking precautions and being careful with the things he has. He kept the letter in his cloak pocket and made sure that it wasn't ruined.

The swordsman slung his pack after adjusting his soldiers suit. Making sure that it was comfortable before placing on his shield and belting his short sword. He headed out of his room, closed the door, and locked it. Before moving again. He hurried his way through the Nitrozian Estate trying not to be late. He was in search for the name of Clyde. Nothing More.

Eventually, he ran through a small crowd of locals, when he hurried through Ravok. Benare was too rushed to take any boat rides at this time, so he followed the bridges, his cloak flapped heavily behind him, kicking up dust as he ran. He didn't bother to apologize to others as he bumped into him, he was running. He needed to make way for the Southern Outpost.

"You lookin' for a ferry ride?" Asked a man at the gate. Benare took a few breaths before answering. He adjusted his shield and pack and made sure that he had everything.

"Yes?" Benare asked with an arch brow. "What else would I be looking for?" He said rhetorically.

"Alright, off with ya, gimme some mizas and we'll settle it." The man said, Benare fished for a few gold coins in his pocket and handed them briefly to the man. Benare hopped on the ferry and he rode the lake across, over to the other end of the Southern Outpost.

________________

In time, he made it, he noticed a fairly tall man, with a staff. The Nitrozian was curious, but kept it to himself. He must not worry about who that man is yet. He stopped a few feet behind Clyde, breathing quite heavily, but was controlling his breathing. Panting almost. He stood upright, looking at Clyde, hoping that this man was even Clyde. The first thing he asked.

"Would you be..." He said in between breaths. "Clyde? The one from this letter?" Benare pulled it out and showed the man the letter. Hoping that he recognized it, he looked back at the other peddlers and hunters that were entering and leaving out of the gates. He had a feeling that this would be a long day.

After a wait during which Clyde stood about and restlessly moved his feet, Clyde noted some attention from a person exiting the ferry.

Most of the others, Clyde had noted, had hurried about their business. They darted off, to a shop or bar or out to hunt. The person which took his notice was similarly looking for someone, looking with the gaze of someone not sure what he would find but assuming he'd know it when he saw it.

As the man stood near him, panting to catch his breath, Clyde reached out through Cha with his aura sight and extended out a tendril of attention. Mentally willing an extension of his attention, his aura sight latched on and began to soak in deeper and deeper. Almost immediately the aura of the person bloomed, large as was common among a sentient person. The more particular and specific things would take time, but Clyde had no worry on that front. The two of them would be together for awhile on his random journey, giving him ample time to examine his inner intricacies.

Turning to face the man straight on, Clyde canted his head a bit as he scanned him within his mundane vision, even though he could see him much better by scanning the peripheries of the mans aura. Visual sight was one of the first things visible within an aura, and one of the easiest to do. Within it he could see all of him at once, as if seeing him from all sides with no obstacles in the way and in perfect lighting. But as with eyesight one couldn't take in all at once, and mental focus needed to focus and examine a specific area just as how ones mundane attention was required to see something within their eyesight.

“I've been called that name, and gone by it. Whether I am or am not that, is much harder to say. Names are but a label, but a label does not give identity to what it names. But if it makes it easier, you can call me as such.”

He didn't bother looking at the letter, or the man himself for that matter, at least in his mundane sight. Pretending as if he was ignoring him, Clyde turned away and faced deeper into the wilds and away from Ravok, gazing into the distance.

“I suppose we should be off then. No point in dawdling. The sooner we set off, the sooner we get there, and the sooner we can get back. You get me there safely, and back again, and you'll be paid.”

Turning on the spot he stopped, his eyes settling on the blade the man wore.

“I assume that's not just for show, and you actually know how to use it. That'd be rather disappointing, if not...”

Letting his words trail off, Clyde turned back to the wilds, thumping Cha once on the ground.

“Right, well lets go.”

And with that Clyde began to stride away, not bothering to check and see if the man would follow but assuming he would. In reality he could see him still within his aura sight, even though not by his mundane sight, and kept a tight watch on his reactions and motions and responses.

Clyde faced the Nitrozian, and Benare felt a sense of insecurity. The noble of a man, Benare, arched a brow as the man who entitled himself as just "Clyde" and nothing other included, he kept telling him off about what a name can or can not be. Or whom what he'd like to be called, or however he'd be called by. He'll abide to it, thought Benare assumed that he wouldn't abide to something so acenine, and Benare wouldn't suspect this man to be someone other than a simple traveler looking for an escort. At least, he had chosen Benare, well... one of the Nitrozian Guards had handed Benare the envelope, and it was one of which that the noble had trusted quite dearly. It'd be a shame to see that guard leave so.

Benare figured that the man wished not to inspect the letter. Assuming, that he was the one who probably had written it in the first place. Since, he signed it after all. It didn't take the Nitrozian long to regain his breath. He has been working on some breathing techniques to maintain his energy. So far it's working, and the Nitrozian could sense the Djed calling out to him, though he pushed the thought away. As he doesn't have any idea(s) of what to make yet. Plus, he'll probably need to learn some Glyphing at some point as well.

“I suppose we should be off then. No point in dawdling. The sooner we set off, the sooner we get there, and the sooner we can get back. You get me there safely, and back again, and you'll be paid.”

Safely. The word triggered Benare, and he was on alert. He scanned the tree line some distance apart from their positions. Assuming, that the two must make way through the woods. Benare wondered where they were taking this Clyde. Though, secrets are secrets and the Nitrozian respects that. After all, Benare works for the Crescent Circle now, but he still should make the regular rounds being a mercenary and all. Clyde started a canter, though after a few yards, he turned.

“I assume that's not just for show, and you actually know how to use it. That'd be rather disappointing, if not...” Benare clenched his teeth, lips pursed.

" If I were you, I'd best be watching your tongue." Benare grumbled under his breath. "I am someone not to be tempered with. I do know how to use this blade, it's edge is sharp enough to cut through that stick of yours." Benare snorted. He was a Nitrozian, his family basically owned most of Ravok. Does this man even know that? It wouldn't matter, unless this man wants to pick a fight with Benare. Seeing as Clyde didn't want to escalate this, Benare focused on calming himself down.

There was a slight, awkward silence. Before Clyde spoke.
“Right, well lets go.” Clyde turned away from the man, and he followed a couple of steps beside Clyde. Benare kept quiet and observed the scenery around him. The wildlands were certainly interesting. Benare observed Clyde, he seemed slightly tensed. He noticed his shoulder tightening a bit, every now and then. Though, the question was. Was this a man to trust?

As he walked Clyde examined the aura of the man, searching... Though he knew not what for.

He'd had experience searching for traces of djed upon a person, generally from using or being the target of personal magic. World magic wasn't usually quite the same, and was far harder if not impossible to detect on someones aura due to the lack of perturbations within the djed and residue left upon the aura.

Still he could sense the man, and was slowly gaining a better grasp of his aura.

At Benare's words and comment Clyde paused, turning to face him once more.

Suddenly he stuck out his tongue, turning his head in an odd way and glancing down so as to peer at it. Clyde continued to do so for a few moments before pulling his tongue back in and shrugging. When he spoke it was in an offhand, though not flippant, nature. He spoke as if he was neither overly serious or impassioned but simply carrying on a regular if odd conversation.

“Mmm... Its still there. But thank you for the advice, wouldn't want it running off never to be found because I didn't keep an eye on it. I'll keep an eye on mine, and just for good measure yours, and you do the same for us both.”

“As for Cha... Sticks are sticks, and swords are swords. But if you assume a stick is just a stick, and a sword is just a sword, you'll miss the truth hidden among the many. Not all sticks are equal, nor are all tongues, or swords. Assuming otherwise is a sure way to miss something hiding just under your nose. Like a oddly colored tongue. Just because you've seen a sword before, you shouldn't assume its the same as all other swords. That'd be like assuming all books hold the same contents because they have covers and words on them.”

Once he finished his odd short speech, Clyde would turn back and continue his steady pace into the woods. He'd listen if Benare spoke, and likely respond in a equally esoteric manner as before if the Nitrozian questioned him, but he'd not stop or turn around unless Benare directly confronted him physically. Instead he'd continue on deeper into the woods and away from Ravok.

“Mmm... Its still there. But thank you for the advice, wouldn't want it running off never to be found because I didn't keep an eye on it. I'll keep an eye on mine, and just for good measure yours, and you do the same for us both.”

Benare arched a brow, this man was even more stubborn than Benare. It didn't seem right. As if this man was simply intimidating him. The Nitrozian felt that he wasn't getting any respect from this man. It seemed that he didn't know whom this Clyde was talking to. Though, on the other hand, if Benare truly wanted the money, he best behave. Well, not completely at least, not until this man messes up. Clyde wished for Benare to close his mouth as well, assuming that it would probably be the best for them both.

Though, if Benare ever killed this man, he would definitely be brought forwards to the Stryfe and questioned and perhaps even interrogated. The Nitrozian felt like he's already been through it, but can not remember it quite so. Truly, he'd remember a torture, especially if it was him being tortured. Speaking of torture, when Clyde continued to speak, he made it seem like a small speech.

During the middle of this lecture, Benare lost his train of thought as the man nearly rambled on and on about how both steel and stick could be as useful whilst comparing/judging the two.

"With all do respect. This has gotten off the wrong foot." Be are followed Clyde as he walked. "I'm not expecting to make enemies. You appear rather tactical and quite logical. I assure you, I can get you wherever you are taking me. Let's start off on the right foot, shall we?"

Even if Benare would try again at being acquainted with this man, he should at least trust him. Unless, Clyde could very well be leading him to a trap. One thing that's keeping him alert, or helping him perse, is worry. It's always good to feel fear, of course it's what enrages your actions beforehand.

Clyde, if nothing else, was enjoying himself. In the moment he felt it a wondrous game, to see what he could do or say and see what the man's reaction was. He wasn't lying persay, didn't disagree with what he said, simply finding his own words an exercise in Chaon logic.

He enjoyed the discussion, the argument, over things, and in the moment felt in a winning position. He didn't fear the Nitrozian, knowing his power in magical terms far outweighed anything he could do with his skill in a blade.

And so it gave him the opportunity to be a bit looser than normal, a bit more flippant, and enjoy himself. Something he didn't always have time to do, particularly when working as a member of the Ebonstryfe.

Choosing to take the Nitrozian's words too literally, Clyde paused in his walking, peering down at his legs.

“Your right... I did start off on the wrong foot...”

Moving both of his feet for a second as he marched in place, Clyde stepped off and began walking again, this time stepping off using his right foot first. Whether he'd begun walking before with this foot or not Clyde wasn't sure, but enjoyed it all the same.

“There, better? I've started things off on my RIGHT foot. Almost ruined the entire endeavor. Nice catch.”

From Clyde's words it wouldn't be clear if he was making fun of the Nitrozian, being flippant, or perhaps being completely serious.

“Although I'd have to say, making enemies does seem like a fool thing to do. I mean we've already got enough problems without us building things to oppose us. But I suppose it does happen. Just be careful you don't make them smart enough to open a doorknob when you do, or your real in trouble. Or able to swim... Nothing you can't avoid by going through a closed door or onto a boat, thats my rule when making enemies. Also helps if you build them short...”

As the two of them walked Clyde would continue talking unless interrupted by Benare, listing various attributes not desirable when making enemies. Height, claws, poison, the ability to dig a moat, throw knives, and various other traits.

If unstopped Clyde would also continue walking without any sign of direction. He would begin walking in one direction and continue heading in it for a quarter bell or so. Then he would abruptly stop, mutter to himself, and begin heading off in a new direction.

The man with the staff continued to walk; but at some point in time, the man stopped. He looked at his feet. Benare stopped, he wondered what the man was doing. He looked suspicious, but he kept it to himself; perhaps he was just pulling his pant leg up. “Your right... I did start off on the wrong foot...”Benare snorted quietly- to himself even. He figured that the man was being funny, but what if he was trying to annoy him? It was working, almost. Clyde seemed to be a inconspicuous man.

"Okay..." Benare scoffed confused, and looked past the landscape from his current position. He was unsure still; where they were headed, but hopefully it'll give something for Benare to do besides listen to this man's baboon statements.

“There, better? I've started things off on my RIGHT foot. Almost ruined the entire endeavor. Nice catch.”Clyde placed extra emphasis on the RIGHT portion of his sentence, indicating the fact that he started on his right foot. Benare didn't care what foot he stepped with first. It didn't matter to him, he just wanted to get to where they were going- and be back at the Nitrozian Manor before his father gets suspicious about his whereabouts. He doesn't need his father nagging him about the family reputation and businesses.

"Yeah sure. Anytime." Benare scoffed and shrugged his shoulders. Smirking almost, but he was quiet for the time being as they resumed their walk.

This Clyde seemed to be slightly getting on Benare's nerves. Though, he focused his breathing to keep him calm, of course, making enemies of each other seemed foolish enough as Benare wouldn't want to see his incentive for helping this man out just evaporate. "I agree." Benare simply replied, with a shrug of his shoulders. He looked back at Ravok, as it slowly got smaller as they've walked. Clyde stopped once, but he mumbled to himself, and Benare was skeptical of the man with the staff. "Is everything alright?" Benare asked as he looked back ahead and made sure to keep pace with Clyde as they've walked.

OOCI apologize for the wait.

[Southern Trading Post]A trip, a trap, a test[Benare]

While Clyde's direction was somewhat meandering, seeing as he didn't in fact have a destination, it did lead in one main direction. Away from Ravok and further into the woods. While the specific direction might change, in that facet of his journey he kept steadily pointed away from civilization and further into the wilds and woods.

Clyde was a bit disappointed in his companion, seeing as he refused to play along with Clyde's game or to do or say anything interesting. Instead he left it up to Clyde to lead and converse. Clyde had met a few Nitrozian over the years, even some who he'd carried on an interesting conversation and who could keep up with his particular brand of wit. This Nitrozian didn't seem of the same type.

He was considering doing something to make things more interesting, when Clyde felt a buzz against his aura, a general sense of foreboding only faintly audible to his auristical senses.

It was enough to give Clyde a bit of a warning, and to tell him to pay attention and look about. His partner clearly hadn't seen or noticed anything, but then he wasn't a Aurist let alone one of Clyde's caliber, and so was limited by his human senses and his limited capability of using those. Clyde had spent a lot of time observing subtletly, and noticing things trying to stay hidden. That, tied with his Auristical skills, made him much more difficult to sneak up on.

Without visibly doing anything different, Clyde began to use his Auristics. He focused his djed through Cha in his hand, reaching outward with a series of small tendrils of aura sight to digest and sift through the surrounding aura noise. Almost immediately he found quite a few trees, which made sense as they were in the woods.

Skipping from one aura to another, only just touching one to get the vaguest of sense or outline of it, he would skip to another aura, piecing together a vague series of images of their surroundings. Once he'd settled on one he'd know what it was and where in proximity to the two of them, and so was able to ignore it and press on.

After about a chime he detected a somewhat stronger aura, that of a living thing. A dog. Two, standing and walking together, about fifteen feet away from them. Direct eyesight was blocked by the flora about them, mainly by trees. He'd been somewhat lucky to find them as easily as he had, and knew their close proximity had played a large part in it. If they'd been a bit further away from them he wasn't sure if or when he'd have found them, as the circle he was examining quickly grew larger and larger at a expanding rate as he moved further from the central point he stood on.

They were not standing he saw, but walking in parallel to them. And, as he let a pair of his seeking tendrils soak into the pair of aura more deeply, he saw they were not dogs.

Wolves. Black wolves, a beast Clyde had run into before and that was native to Ravok and its environs. Unlike normal wolves they were much more aggressive, much more likely to attack than normal wolves and not easy to scare off.

As he had peered about with his aura sight Clyde had continued to walk, letting his staff bump along on the ground like normal as he walked, and purposely not looking in the direction of the wolves he could see in his aura sight. Not wanting to give himself away. They could likely sense him through other senses than sight, but he didn't doubt if they detected him detecting them they'd react.

He was left to ponder, though not for long, why they were only tracking them and not attacking. Wolves were pack hunters, and he only saw two, one reason he was still reaching about with his aura sight for others. But clearly they were doing something if they weren't attacking yet.

“Eh? Just walking, same as you. I'm just trying to retrace my steps, and I didn't exactly take a straight line the first time I headed out here. Don't worry though, we are on the right track, I distinctly recall that tree root there. I tripped on it the first time I passed it back then, such things tend to stick in ones memory.”

“Its not exactly a straight line though, so we'll need to take a few more turns, but we are headed in the right general direction...”

Clyde's words trailed off as he detected something in their path, seeing it with both his mundane sight and his aura vision at roughly the same time. A black wolf, standing in their paths, hackles raised and beginning to growl as they walked along in its direction. It was a good ten feet away by the time it had fully registered and the party had time to stop.

Suddenly Clyde understood the other two wolves, still hidden most likely to his traveling partner. This one was the distraction, meant to take their focus, while the other two came at them from the side. More likely than not the moment they moved to do something about the one wolf, the other two would spring into action and charge in, surrounding and attacking them before they had a chance to notice the new threat.

A simple enough tactic for hunting, though for an animal perhaps a bit advanced. But then they were pack animals, such things Clyde thought to himself were perhaps instinctual at some level.

Clyde didn't bother telling the Nitrozian about the other two wolves, instead pondering the best way he could react to the situation at hand.

Assuming he'd found all the sources of threat for the moment, Clyde pulled back in his excess aura focus, leaving out only four tendrils. One on each of the wolves, and one on the Nitrozian.

“Mmm... I don't recall that from the last time I came this way...”
Clydes Stuff

I am actually in RL a super intelligent hamster from Rhode Island, with a 7 year plan to take over the world.

Update 6/2/18- 1:10AM EST: His 7 year plan a success, and several weeks ahead of schedule, Clyde leaves to oversee the world he has taken over.

No new threads after end of Spring 518-Will still be checking for PM's occasionally, but focusing on a new character.

Graders note: :
Please be aware Clyde is a master Magecrafter. He therefore should not be gaining full xp(or possibly shouldn't gain any at all) for simple tasks related to this magic, such as low level MC items, particularly for repetitions of creations he has done before. Feel free to contact me if unsure of a instance of his magic use compared to his skill level.

"You mean to tell me of the wolf..." Benare asked, he was confused, he did notice the wolf as it trotted it's distance apart from where the two Ravokians stood. Benare hadn't fought a beast of any sort before, besides humans and Kelvics. He was younger then, but he remembered those times when he had gotten into fights with the other kids around the block. They were mostly jealous of his nobility. That was that, he knew at least the basics of fighting. He hadn't had to fight with an animal today. Wolves fight on impulse, and if there is one... there would have to be more? Right...

Benare had thought about pulling out his Shortsword, but he wondered if Clyde had something else in mind. Unless, all they had left as an action was to fight. That left Benare to pull out his blade. He smiled rather ruefully.

"So, you wanted to know if I can use this?" Benare said as he tested the weight of the metal. Benare observed Clyde with interest, and he wanted to know how the staff man would be able to fight. He could seen quite acrobatic, if he had a staff, that would give him limits on certain fighting capabilities, as well as particular fighting styles. Benare was only trying to figure out how Clyde could fight by using process of elimination, he doesn't have a sword, obviously, and it doesn't look like he has any armor on his person. The only thing that Benare was unaware of was the fact that there were two more wolves.

"It's just one, how hard could it be?"
