57th Summer 517AV
Mid-Morning

There was always something Fallon found distinctly safe about libraries and books. The air of calm, the marks of minds being channeled down into information. It was a mark of a collection of thoughts and learning, brought together and securely stored. Zeltiva’s library as far as Fallon was concerned was the pinnacle of such a collection, rich with lore and history. Something she could sink her teeth into. Others had been considerably weaker; Syliras was restricted to knights only – something she considered near barbaric in the face of learning and a growing population- and Sunberth was notably lacking – but was that really a surprise giving the nature of the city?

Riverfall was now beneath her scrutiny, leaving the inspector to quietly study and wander between the shelves. She had taken up her notebook, finding a blank page for her to jot down various notes of her investigations. She knew little of the city, but even in her mind she understood that a library was defined by its inhabitants – at least, judging by her own experiences. Ink vial open and clenched tightly between her fingers, she took a slower pace to inspect the various offerings available to her with the quill scratching upon the page. Occasionally she stopped, lowering the quill to pull a book from the shelf. A quick flick through the first few pages, a small raise of the eyebrow before returning it.

52/Su/517AV
Valkala Library - Riverfall
Notably a large collection of tomes around physical activities including but not limited to: training, weapons, combat styles.

Seems to hold loose historical records on when various battles and skirmishes took place. Allows build up of time line and suggests Riverfall is a city steeped in warfare.

A brief dip of the quill, she quietly scribbled out the various sections she had seen as she continued round. Every now and then she looked to the other visitors, some like her traversed the shelves in searching while others seemingly already found their quarry. Hunched over tomes, reading intently and taking notes. There was a quiet mumble in one of the corners, mumbled voices discussing their findings. Some gave small nervous glances to her, if not torn by the foreigner with the kukri at the hip, then upon the more androgynous shape and the clothing that hid the form. She paid them no real mind, instead just noting their presence and keeping herself aware. Gloved hands took up another book, repeating as she did earlier. This one was different to the previous, focusing on health and - with a slightly deeper look- mental well being. She quietly wrote the name in the corner of the page and returned it.

That feeling of someone looking however continued. A sensation of a constant pressure that rested in the back of her mind. A niggle that caused the small cautious glances out the corner of her eyes. She tried her best to ignore it, push the feeling down with occasional turns of the head along the rows of books. There was a faint breeze, a brief chill of air across the back of her neck. A mere breath in her ear. Skin pimpled, her writing before the shelf stilling. Breathe held. The mind however raced for reasoning and was quickly found when she heard the distant clunk of a door closing.

The door, another had come into the library. The breeze outside was relatively brisk today – the effects of a cliff settled city she reasoned. She exhaled softly and continued on her way.

Your Words I My Words I My Thoughts

The door to the library was surprisingly light, swinging open with little resistance as Balian entered. Like the rest of the city, he was captivated by the structure that surrounded him. He was no architect, however even he was able to appreciate the exotic beauty of the city he would call home. Especially when he compared it to the stone buttresses of Syliras. This city radiated life.

Having arrived just two days past at the end of a long and arduous journey, Balian and his Patron knight had been given leave to rest, and naturally, the young squire had taken the opportunity to explore. While the previous day was given over to mindless wander and exploration, today Balian’s visit had a purpose. Over discussions last night, Sir Uldrin and another knight stationed at the outpost had suggested that Balian visit to read up on various close combat techniques and styles. It had become painfully obvious to him that his skill with both his sword and daggers was dangerously lacking. The solution they suggested was then to visit the library, followed by training.

His boots echoed softly as he walked through the library, briefly hesitating before turning into the shelves in search of something that could perhaps steer him in the right direction. The other patrons barely spared him a second glance as he passed, perhaps only to stare at what was clearly to them a foreigner, as he wore no leather. He had seen almost every male with sort of leather covering, both human or the Native Akalaks that he knew so little about. In contrast Balian wore only his black pants and favorite burgundy shirt, sleeves rolled up. The only leather on him were his boots, his belt and, the sheaths that housed his two daggers located at the back of his belt, which if he were honest with himself was more for show than anything. At least he wasn’t the only person that was armed; he saw one other with what looked like curved long daggers. Kukri, he thought, recalling some past lesson with his patron knight.

It was quiet, as libraries tend to be, a few soft murmers here or there. However, Balian felt as if there was something heavy looming over the other visitors. He spotted a few nervous or startled glances darting around, but he quickly dismissed them. Each city had its quirks he surmised, and quickly returned to his task at hand. Most of the tomes that lined the shelves seemed to Balian to be historical. Some were named after some battle, and a quick flip the pages of others confirmed that this area had seen its share of bloodshed. Eventually he came upon a row of books dedicated to weapons and their uses. Scanned the shelves for something that could help him. Either swords or daggers, both preferably. He even kept an eye out for anything involving archery, his preferred method, however for now he was focused on hand to hand. There. Balian reached up and gently pulled a tome out from the shelf, its leather bound cover offering its name: “Of Blades and Their Uses”.

Balian scanned the contents of the book, searching to see if this book contained information regarding his weapons of choice. As luck would have it, the two chapters were consecutive. Book in hand, Balian quietly, yet quickly walked over to the nearest table. Opening to the chapter on long swords, he was excited to see a sketch outlining basic stances, which alone was enough to teach him a thing or two.

Image

Balian studied the sketch, his eyes tracing the stances depicted for a few chimes before continuing on. So absorbed was he that he failed to notice the tingling sensation of the hairs on his neck rising, ignoring the growing unease of being watched.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

The door to Riverfall's public library had only just closed when it was swung open once more as Kamilla entered the familiar building, only a few steps behind a man with a burgundy shirt and two daggers, though she paid him little mind, glad that she'd found some time to come and do a little reading. The dark haired sorceress wore her favorite simple short black dress, it's lace tail dancing behind her with each step, a mane of dark brown hair fell freely down her back bouncing slightly with each soft step of her thigh high black leather boots on the library floor. She made her way straight towards the magic section, one hand grasping the strap of her pack as it hung from her shoulder, containing one of her empty books and some writing supplies.

Deep brown eyes surveyed the assortment of tomes for a few moments before she retrieved a familiar one on the uses of glyphing as well as another tome labeled 'Shielding - Beginner and Advanced Techniques', one of her favorite things about the establishment was that it didn't restrict access to any of its wealth of knowledge, unlike Sahova that had an entire section that required very special permission to enter. With her books in hand the young sorceress made her way towards one of the furthest tables of the library, passing a blonde with an odd looking blade fastened to his, or her, hip, the person's appearance not readily offering a gender at first glance. Every time she saw a weapon she was reminded of Riverfall's frustrating citizenship requirements, most vexingly, competency in a weapon, magics not included, given enough time Kamilla could crush a small building and yet her skills were of no merit in the eyes of the cities officials, the most inconvenient result being that she could not purchase a house.

Finally reaching her preferred desk, Kamilla placed both her books as well as her pack on the table before taking a seat and reaching for her notebook, ink and quill. This particular desk was her favorite because it was positioned against a windowed wall allowing for great natural light, for this reason she found it odd that the candle on her table was lit seeing as it was a very sunny day. With a short puff the flame was extinguished and Kamilla had brought the book on glyphing up to her face to closely inspect the sigils she had been investigating during her last visit. Barely a chime had passed when the sorceress began to feel a hint of unease growing within her, lowering her book for a moment to look around in suspicion, her face pulled into a frown as she noticed the candle on her table had been lit once again.

Something tickled in the back of Fallon's mind. A nagging pressure that did not seem to want to relent. There was the smallest of winces, features briefly creasing as she continued to move along the book shelves. Finger traced, tapping along the spines of the books. She heard the door again, watching the various shapes of others enter and move their way around the library. Two humans, or at least not Akalak, she did not pay too much attention to their immediate shapes. She came up to the side of another set of shelves, noting down the row numbers a brief looking either side for the content. The theme of wellbeing continued, this time stretching out into diet and various foods - she did not dwell upon them for too long.

The scratching continued, persisting as she moved around. Deeper into the section, she passed past a human - his head down in his book as he made his way to the table. There was the briefest of glances, a mere snap shot in her mind as she attempted to memorise him.

Brown hair. Some tanned. Not dressed like a typical local, her gaze flickered down briefly to his waist, Armed however. Suggests some form of competence in combat. She turned her head away to look back to the shelf he had pulled from, her own head leaning in to false interest on the book names, Educated. Looking to further education in combat. Suggests a mind for war. A professional of sorts or in training?

Discarding the thought she reached and took one at random, flipping open the cover to study the interior-

"Weak..."

The voice breathed down her neck, whispering in her ear. Clear, venomous, thick with poison. She held back the flinch, head turning to look behind her to find nothing. A small lick of the lips, the woman slowly returned her attention back down to the page - a few diagrams, it was quickly overcome with streams of text that was filled with some form of broken common. It was enough to cause her to wince. Awkwardly returning it she let her fingers drift to the next. Hairs rose, skin prickling once more, a strange sense of anticipation beginning to sink in.

"You are nothing but weak..."

It came again. Clawing this time. A mere shadow in the corner of her vision. She could not make out the shape, not truly. Just out of reach, and as she begun the turning did it creep away and out of sight. The niggling continued on in the back of her mind. Heavier, more pressing this time. Her notebook snapped shut, her gaze turning firmly back to the shelf before her. Gaze bore at it, shoulders rolling back, a deep inhale. Fallon held it, letting the pressure fill her lungs before exhaling.

Imagination. Thoughts. Your own head playing tricks on you, she was still for a tick, before she began the process of tucking away her writing implements, Go outside for a moment, get some fresh air-

There was the sound of wood groaning within the library. Starting off as a mere creak of noise, her head turned to the right and down the room. Her brow creased as she heard what started off as a mere whisper seemed to grow in size. She watched a head of one of the other occupants turn towards it, hearing it as it became louder. Definite, she gave a step away from the case as she heard the creaking take over, pause and then echo with the sound of splintering wood. A loud clunk of a shelf giving way a few rows down, followed by the slumping of books onto the floor. She stared, before sighing and marching herself over to the remains. Fallon muttered under her breath, "For petch sake."

[Sakel City Event][Valkala Library] Words are alive

Balian was focused on the book in front of him. The illustrations within the book, coupled with the descriptions were enlightening to the young squire, further proving his own inadequacy with the skill’s that he needed to master. He read on, attempting to absorb as much information as he could so that he may practice later:

[“Ox Stance – Moderately aggressive stance. With both offensive and defensive variations, the Ox stance provides a variety of options in both defence and attack, allowing for smooth and quick transitions between the two.

Falcon Stance: An aggressive stance which allows for powerful downward cuts and forces the opponent to parry. This stance assumes the initiative, and can be modified to create less obvious lines of attack.

Snake Stance: Low threatening stance, gives the appearance that…..

The sound of groaning wood grew louder in the back of his mind as he read, however it was the sound of splintered wood and crashing books that finally pulled Balian from his thoughts. Startled, the young squire quickly turned to the sound, instinctively jumping back on his seat. A few ticks passed before it was clear to him what had happened; one of the shelves had given to the weight of the books it carried. Not an unusual event, Balian thought, however it did seem a little odd that in place such as Riverfall it would be allowed to happen. As it was, there were already a few people going over to investigate.

Balian quickly glanced around him once more. The feeling of being watched had grown and finally it had gotten his attention. The few people in the surrounding tables were all preoccupied with the mess down at the other end of the library, and he saw no one lurking between the bookshelves, yet the feeling of someone reading over his shoulder persisted. Attempting to push this unease to the back of his mind, Balian returned to his book.

Only to find that the pages he had been reading were blank.

what the… Balian closed his eyes for a few ticks. How could the pages be blank? He was just reading them. His eyes must be tired. Yes, that must be it he thought half-heartedly, barely believing it himself. When he opened them once more the pages remained blank. He quickly looked around to see if any of the nearby patrons of the library were experiencing anything similar. They all seemed either curious towards the crash or had lost interest and returned to whatever task had brought them here. Concerned, Balian flipped through the rest of the book, which only confirmed his suspicion; the entire book was blank. No words, no illustration, nothing. Even title of the book was now missing. In his hands Balian held a blank leather bound book. The strangest thought overcame him as he sat their contemplating this bizarre turn in events, shrouded in confidence and a self-assuredness that was unfamiliar to Balian and coming so unexpectedly, it seemed almost as if it were another’s.

I should write in it

The thought lingered for a few ticks before it disappeared, returning his thoughts to their normal pathos, the usual doubt and hesitation that he so often felt flooding back in. But what would I write about..?

"What do you want?"

Whispers in Balians mind. But for however soft they may have been spoken, the words thundered throughout him. Balian snapped his head around, searching for the source of the voice jumping in up in his seat as the words echoed within him. “Who’s there!” the squire demanded. He tried to keep his voice low enough in respect to his surroundings, however there he was clearly startled, the demand sounding less confident than he had hoped. Balian turned in search, yet he saw nothing but the annoyed glances of those who had been startled by his own sudden actions. There. A shadow. A form had slipped in between the book cases, pausing just long enough as if allowing Balian to see only its shape before sinking away towards the crashed shelves from earlier. He hesitated for a moment, however his inborn curiosity got the better of his learned cautiousness and he hurried after the figure, a hand darting to grab the hilt of one of his daggers, not drawing it just yet.

Balian turned the corner, yet he saw no one. The shadow had disappeared, swallowed up it seems by the old wood of the floorboards. Cautiously, he stepped forward, passing the varous books as he did. He looked for any sign of some one’s passing. Uneven floor boards, a scrunched rug; he wasn’t actually sure what to look for as he attempted to apply what knowledge he had of tracking in the wild to this domestic setting. He saw nothing. He crept further down the aisle keeping his eyes open for anything. A few steps ahead he spied a lump. The closer he got to it, the more defined its shape became. It wasn’t until he reached it however that he saw clearly the book that he had been reading earlier, pages still blank, laid out before him. the same voice whispering in his mind.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

Deep brown eyes were still focused on the candle that rested on the desk before her, its small flame flickering as if it hadn't just been extinguished moments ago. Refusing to avert her gaze, Kamilla tried to make sense of the occurrence, she was entirely certain no one had come anywhere near enough to have lit it and the candles had never done anything similar during her previous visits to the library, in fact the only candles she had ever seen that were able to light themselves were those in her old masters' caverns back on Sahova, the sorceress highly doubted Riverfall would waste time and Mizas magecrafting candles for a library. Somewhat troubled, though more curious, by this newfound 'mystery' Kamilla placed the book she'd been reading on the desk and with another huff extinguished the candle for a second time, though this time she watched the small object intently, not moving her gaze for even a moment.

Several chimes later and with no flame in sight the young sorceress was beginning to feel foolish for having wasted her time on something so silly, though not foolish enough to give in after having already gotten this far, it was only when her ears were greeted with the loud crash of wood, pages and several gasps that her staring contest with the candle was broken in search of the source of the noise. Unsurprisingly, a few other people had also turned their attention to the fallen shelf, the sight of the precious knowledge scattered across the library floor caused Kamilla a hint of annoyance toward whoever had accidentally toppled the shelf in the first place, though in the end it was not her problem.

Dismissing the situation with a wave of her hand the sorceress returned her attention to her own desk, more specifically the candle, which was once again lit. This in conjunction with the growing unease within forced her to carefully stand up from her table, narrowed eyes leaving the candle for a moment to take note of the man in the burgundy shirt as he hurried deeper into the isles.

Something didn't sit well with the young woman as she glanced between the fallen shelf and the miraculous candle, neither were really a cause for concern neither alone or together but coupled with the uncomfortable feeling that was slowly encompassing her things started to feel a little too much like something she'd felt before. The feeling in question was the odd mixture of unease and dread that she'd always felt when several floors below the surface in the dimly lit caverns of her twin ghostly masters on Sahova. The current situation felt similar, too similar. Taking an intentional breath and exhaling as she crossed her arms over her chest, Kamilla reasoned with herself that even with the current three occurrences which may or may not have been related, there wasn't enough evidence to jump to a conclusion, so instead she decided to wait, wait for yet another odd occurrence to support her assumption and if there weren't any then she'd simply dismiss her concerns and return to her books.

[Sakel City Event][Valkala Library] Words are alive

Postby Fallon on June 15th, 2017, 9:13 am

Fallon stooped to pick up the books, another -Akalak- doing much the same. While no words were spoken between them, the pair seemed to understand the need. A near by desk was cleared, books piled onto them. Another library inhabitant seemed to go off – no doubt to find the librarian – and their work continued uninterrupted. There was a small scratch of the head as the shelf was freed. Iron nails had bent and buckled inwards, ripping through the once believed solid wood. There was no immediate point in looking at it closely, she was no carpenter and her other skills did not align with crafting.

So she turned her attention to the books, carefully inspecting them for any obvious damage – the contents was ignored, they were not important now. It was the potential loss of knowledge that was. Her finger tips gave a small trace over the cover, her skin prickling as a cold chill. It breathed into her ear, a twisting, sickening whisper. Her nostrils flared, gaze boring down onto the cover. A fight to ignore it as it once more attempted to plant a seed in her mind.

”You are nothing but we-”

An actual voice cut through then. It was sobering enough that the head snapped around to the source. The same Akalak as before, accent thick and the spoken common fractured. There was a small blank exchange of looks between them, before he repeated himself, ”Thank you miss. We got from here.”
“Oh, right. Yes. Thank you,”
a quick smile in understanding, she stepped away from the books. Awkward, a small pinch of the brow as she regained some composure. A few glances came her way still, and then slid over to the offending shelf. But no one seemed to pay too much mind.

Fingers rubbed away the chill upon the back of her neck, a deep inhale as she allowed herself to step out of sight behind a row of bookshelves. A momentary respite from the eyes of the world. Hand against the solid shelf, she gave it a pressing test before she braced herself against it. It was not going to give or budge. Exhale, she closed her eyes for a moment.

Let the mind still. Let the thoughts settle. Be at peace with yourself. Calm, she let the thought flow through her, another series of deep inhales and exhales. There was nothing wrong here. There was nothing going on. It was the heat playing tricks upon her mind and setting it into a mire. As she continued her breathing did the cold peel away, leaving a numbing sensation upon her skin before peeling away entirely. The pressure in her lungs subsided, a few, continuing breaths as she created the mental foundation in which to build up off of.

The sound of footsteps however made her jump. A small flinch of movement that caused the eyes to flare open. Her gaze turned sharply to the source, the creaking of floor boards as a human moved pass the mouth of this book row. Her eyes followed, cataloging him as the one who had entered earlier. Where once there was idle curiosity however instead the look of determination took over, a small smattering of fear within the recesses of his features. Her gaze shifted, body growing still as she saw the fingers curled around the hilt of a dagger. It did not take her long to realise that he was hunting something, and a nervous prickle set itself within once more.

”He's coming for you big, bad, wolf… he's here to gut you like a pig… weakling.”

Withdrawing her hand she did not register the sticky residue that had accumulated there. The voice rattled around in her head, whispering, yet growing quickly to a guttural bubble of noise. Feet were forced into movement, softer pressing and rolling from side to flat. She had taken to lighter steps, cautious and moving. Her head tilted and peered, eyes narrowed as she watched him turn another corner. Somewhere above the candle sconces flickered, catching some breeze, but she did not pay it too much mind.

At the mouth of the aisle now, she could see his shape down there. He was standing over something, a book? Did it really matter? She had stepped to the side of one of the shelves, peering around the corner at him. Her throat cleared, gaze watching him carefully. The breeze flickered stronger now, the faint sound of clinking metal and wind whistling between the shelves. A faint groaning ever lingering. A hissing noise as the candle upon a near by sconce died. But Fallon and her words cooled and levelled in the common tongue, ”Oi. You alright?”

A Blank book. On its own such an item would surely have little value, but the question hung over his head, giving this book all the meaning in the world. What that meaning actually was however, escaped Balian. Not that it was the only thing on his mind. Pushing questions and thoughts that he would rather not deal with at the moment, he focused on the circumstances taking place at this library. Books do not just suddenly lose all their markings. And they do not appear out of nothing. Glancing at the shelves on either side of him, he confirmed that this was not some other book that had fallen. Balian had not yet registered the slight increase of a breeze in between the shelves as he stared down at this book, hand still gripping his dagger. Magic, he thought. It has to be magic, that’s the only thing that would make sense? . The thought did little to comfort him. Balian was aware of the existence of magic; there were a small number of knights back in Syliras that were trained in it, however that essentially covered all that Balian actually knew of the craft. He had little understanding of its workings, it’s rules, or its power.

“Oi. You alright?”

A new voice, however this one wasn’t in his mind, nor was it a whisper. Never the less it cut through his thoughts, breaking him out of his contemplation and startling him into action. He quickly swiveled in place, drawing his dagger out as he could and holding it cautiously out in front of him. He didn’t want to seem threatening, however he was caught off guard and some defense reflex had kicked in, not that it would have mattered. Any one competent in combat, let alone experienced in daggers would be able to see Balians inexperience with the weapon: the too-tight gripping of the hilt, the awkward position of the feet, and the position of the dagger all indicated a novice.

The source of voice, as far as he could tell was a woman, leaning on one of the side book shelves at the mouth of the isle, and while he briefly considered the possibility that she may be the magic user taunting him, he quickly dismissed the idea. The Library was full of people, and if he were reading her body posture right, she seemed a tad cautions herself. He was unsure how to respond to the question. How do you explain to someone that a book that had text on it had decided to go blank? or that a shadow had led him down, only to materialize said book infront of him? He barely believed it himself. Instead he decided to answer the safest way he could.

“Ye, Just thought I saw something.” . He answered back in the same language. He lowered his dagger, relaxing his grip on the hilt and stood up straight as he said it. While he never considered himself to have a particularly strong accent, if one had an ear for that sort of thing they would be able to hear the crisp pronunciations of someone from Syliras. He quickly looked down at the book on the ground, if only to see if it was still there, and reached down for it. The weight on his hands were real, but before he could expand further on his answer his gaze was drawn to a nearby candle as it suddenly went out. It was in that moment he began to notice the breeze inside the library. Turning back to the stranger, it was his turn to pose a question. “Is it normally this breezy in here?”

Kamilla Circe Gordon

The eerie atmosphere in the Valkala Library continued to loom for some time and even with Kamilla's focus entirely on her senses there was no fourth mysterious occurrence. The young woman didn't consider herself naive and given the circumstances it was clear that something was afoot, but she did consider the likely possibility that whatever had been taking place wasn't as ominous or sinister as she'd begun to assume. Although her mind remained both alert and curious, her nerves were beginning to settle again after several uneventful chimes of stillness, perhaps whatever was happening had passed?

Even though she tried to convince herself it was no big deal, some minor shenanigans that were nowhere near miraculous enough to hold her attention for so long, she was unable to completely dissuade her own mind. So far, if she had to, there were a few explanations for the candle and the book case, both could be explained away with specific magics, though the amount of trouble one would have to go through for a insignificant pranks in a library did not seem reasonable considering the outcome. Given that analysis, Kamilla reduced her deductions to two possible solutions, either whatever half baked plan was taking place had failed and was over, or there was still more to come.

Glancing around the area, the sorceress noticed that it seemed slightly quieter than it had been a few chimes earlier, a few of the libraries inhabitants must have left while she'd been distracted by her focus on not getting distracted. Deep brown eyes began to 'casually' inspect each isle as she slowly made her way through the many narrow corridors created by the bookshelves, a simple final inspection before she'd finally give up. As she passed rows and rows of neatly packed books, Kamilla couldn't help but wonder if she would be able to animate golems to do the librarian's tasks for him, similar if not exactly the same to the impressive golems in the Sahova library.

[Sakel City Event][Valkala Library] Words are alive

For a moment the world seemed to hold its breath. Or at least, Fallon did as she stared intently upon the back of the human. His movement caused a moment of tenseness, a sharp exhale as he bared the weapon in the space between them. Her gaze snapped to the point, lip twitching before it snapped around the rest of him.

Foreigner. Dagger. On the defensive. Did I catch him by surprise? Awaiting an attack. Paranoid. No, fighter, her gaze gave a quick flicker down to the grip, then up to the shoulders, Bad posture. Too closed in. Clean looking though. In training of some form? Her nostrils flared, the rough inhale and exhale. At last the gaze fell to his face, the eyes that seemed to speak a thousand words while his mouth said something else, Confusion. Insecurity. Fear. Something has scared him?

"Good," she spoke in rougher tones. Her brow gave a small crease of a pinch, his words repeating in her head. He had draw a dagger, yet said thought. It left an uneasy feeling in her stomach, as if he was expecting to find something. He was over the book, what did the book have to do with it? More so as he had stalked off in between the shelves. Fallon cleared her throat, gaze flickering up to the unlit candle, "Are you sure on the thought?"

Her feet creaked in their boots, a roll of shoulders as the chill began to creep in once more. Lingering and sticking to the back of her neck, her hand instinctively rubbed against it and feeling the moisture cling there. Her head gave an incline away, looking around to the rest of the candles and the still library around them. She heard the question, her form giving a small lean away in inspection to the rest of the building.

"A draft perhaps? Or I imagine so. I find old buildings tend to attract such, I imagine Riverfall would be no different," The breeze flickered, curling around the strands of hair as it passed through. Cold and lacking warmth that would have seemed natural for the time of year. Her hand gave a rest upon the wood of the shelf, gaze focused onto him, "Come on. Out of there. Strange places and the heat have a tendency to... play upon the..."

It was perhaps only then that she began to notice. The faint moisture that clung to the air had dried out, the slowly forming lattice of white working its way across the wood work. Her hand snapped away, eyes flickering as she noticed the plume of white escaping her lips with every exhale. The crease of brow continued, ears twitching as she pulled away from the shelves. Creaking, the sound of wood groaning and shifting - it reminded her of the way trees swayed in the forest in the wind, ladened with ice and snow. Hands out before her, shoulders rising and feet falling into one of bracing. Everything prickled, eyes turning upwards to the tops of the shelves.

The swaying continued, growing notably more aggressive now, not just the ones before her but the row itself. Along the base the sheen of seeming ice spread, her mind flickering and working its way through the scenario. It was as it raced its way along to the other than she spoke, tone quick, "What the petch? Shyke. Get out of there. I think they're going to topple."

Her hand pointed for him to move before curving to point back to the main area. She wasted no time. Feet forced into movement, quick steps as the crackling sound filled her ears. A turn to the left, and then the right. She could hear the dulled thudding now. Books sliding from the shelves as they leaned, thumping into the ground. Turning at the mouth of another set of rows, she had to force herself into a sharp stop. Staggering into another - female, human, dark hair - her other foot slammed down to maintain balance, a clearly surprised and flustered look upon her face. Fallon's eyes turned upwards to the shelves, hand wildly gesturing back in the direction of the desks, "Shyke. Sorry. We should..." She saw another book slide off the shelf of the adjacent row, "Move. Back to the desks. Now."

Fallon is a Master of Intimidation, "At this level, a Master intimidator often unconsciously intimidates their target unless the intimidator monitors their stance, tone, and actions to prevent this. Master intimidators will nearly always have a reputation that precedes them unless they have taken special care to prevent it."
