Kelski didn’t honestly know what to think of Zukai. The woman wasn’t friendly. Darvin, who had so many issues the Kelvic had lost count, treated her at least halfway like a person. Zukai treated her like a problem or a puzzle to keep at arm’s length. The woman even looked at her as if she were something of a burden or a problem, which Kelski disliked. She’d spent a lot of time taking care of herself and really didn’t understand why all these people had to now take care of her. The Kelvic remained quiet around the raider, refusing stubbornly perhaps to form an opinion of her.

Zukai’s comment on her profession left Kelski with zero desire to answer the carmel skinned woman. Disdain colored the guards features and made Kelski wonder what made the guard any better than the whores. They were all just doing the jobs they chose to do right? She’d already told the woman too much and remained quiet afterwards. Zukai’s comments that might have been construed as questions were rhetorical anyhow since she never paused long enough for Kelski to remotely decide to answer.

Thorne though. Kelski smiled softly at her new friend. She liked Thorne. There was an honesty about the woman, whom the Kelvic suspected was less than straightforward, that suggested a more down to earth view on the world. Thorne wasn’t better than anyone else. Thorne wasn’t more privileged. Thorne was even willing to talk to her and acknowledge her like she really had an interest in what Kelski said. More importantly, Thorne knew things. And those things she knew were outside of Kelski’s scope of understanding. They were outside of the rank and file of Sun Birth’s existence which involved things Kelski didn’t want to contemplate.

Zukai brought her out of her train of thought as she barked something about the water getting higher and everyone moving. So they started moving. Then they weren’t allowed to talk. Then Zukai was jumping at shadows… leading them places they best not go.

Though a Kelvic, Kelski wasn’t stupid. She knew being out in the open was safest… not fleeing slowly rising water that one could outpace at a crawl even though the ground was pure mud. She felt no safer with Zukai than she felt on her own. It wasn’t the first time Kelski wondered why Jaren made her go out with a guard. There was little she could do though… and asking for someone not as prickly as Zukai would not go over well.

The Kelvic was in a tough spot all around. Slavery was not her forte. Nor was getting along with guards or even protecting herself. Jaren made it impossible. Not for the first time she wished she’d trained at something while she was in Lhavit. All her time had been taken up in Li’s shop, and she’d loved the work. But something… anything… was better than this vulnerability in Sunberth.

The attack by the boy proved that. Zukai took him on even as another one attacked Thorne. Kelski simply didn’t know what to do. She backed up, glancing around, and looking for a way to defend herself or the people she was with. The Kelvic had no weapons, no access to talons or claws, and no training. She sidestepped and tried to get out of the way, making sure her back wasn’t in a corner or she wasn’t between a weapon and someone who was attacking someone else. It made her feel cowardly and weak, a sensation that was new and unwelcome to her. Zukai had a sword or long blade of some sort and Thorne had a long thin blade that looked equally menacing.

She paid more attention to Thorne’s battle than to Zukai’s because Zukai’s attacker looked younger. She didn’t understand why both Thorne and the man dropped their weapons and grappled each other, with Thorne getting pinned against the wall. Kelski darted in, picked up a chunk of rock from the debris littered street and slammed it into the back of the man’s head that was pinning Thorne. She could think of nothing else to do. She only hoped she was strong enough to hurt him enough to let Thorne go. If she did, she’d attempt to kick his weapon out of reach before he could retrieve it again.

Throwing weapons away…. down…. Just seemed insane to her.

The dark skinned woman moved to where she could spot her charge. Thankfully the boy still seemed to be focused on er. The slave was safe at the moment. A quick glance gave Zukai all the information she needed to know about companion Thorne. The other female had become tangled up with an older, larger daggerhand. The girl tried to remember his name having seen him before. Corine had often pulled her in the other direction at the very sight of the man. It was the new blood across from her that was becoming a pain in her side.

“Hey! I am over here you stupid shyke!” He cried out with a snarl.

The Myrian turned back to the kid. Brown eyes looked over him. He was shaky, and his eyes kept darting back to the larger man. The teen figured that the kid was paired with elder member for training. She got a better grip on her blade and waited watching him closely. The girl had to bide her time. She knew there was no way the group would survive without some more help. If they could hold off til,l Corine could make his way back, or she could send word to him; they would stand a better chance.

A sudden burst of movement brought the girl out of her thoughts and back to the boy. He had become impatient waiting for the raider to attack. A smirk appeared on her face, she would use his own recklessness against him. Very few skilled daggerhands ran full at a Sun's Birth member. There was a level of unknown at each gangs skill set and their experience in battle.

'Wait for it. Wait for it,' Zukai thought to herself getting into position to move, 'NOW!'

At the very last second the girl twisted out of his way. With a gasp of shock, the boy turned his head to look at the girl. The Myrian slammed her blade into his shoulder. She did not feel like cleaning blood out of the expensive clothes that Jaran had forced her to wear. A crunch told the girl her blade had penetrated the bones. A scream ripped from the boy's throat getting the older male's attention. Wincing, she turned to find the man had dropped Thorne from the wall. The girl was surprised to see the Kelski had picked up a rock and slammed it in to the man's head. He groaned and held the back of his head as some blood leaked out. The male had become disoriented and swung an arm trying to hit the attacker who was behind him. He looked up to see the kid who was with him on the ground clutching his shoulder in pain.

Thorne was shocked as the guy suddenly released his grip on her, and was taken aback. It seemed that Kelski picked up a rock and slammed it against the guys head. Avinasai turned and went to quickly retrieve her rapier and stood to protect Kelski. She held the rapier with a tight grip and pointed it towards the older man. "You don't ever force yourself against a woman like me again. Or I'll slice your petchin' shyke off. You read me love?" Avinasai said to the man. She growled at him and thrusts her rapier towards his lower half of his body. He didn't expect the attack since he was too occupied with his head.

The sword struck one of the man's legs.

It was merely a poke, but the man cried out and waved his hand at the rapier to push it away. Avinasai righted herself up, and swiped the blade. Just cutting the man's shirt. There was just only a matter of time before the cried of these Daggercocks would be giving away the position of the Sun's Births.

"Kelski? Should we all go? They're hurt enough? Aren't they?" One is facing head trauma, and the other is facing cuts and bruises sore enough to last a few days just about. Avinasai didn't want to stick around for any more trouble, she frantically looked at Zukai; and Thorne has yet to know her name. "Other guard lady, you think that we could go now sweets? We don't need to fight anymore..." Avinasai just didn't want to go through a whole entire fighting sessions. She just wanted to get away from the rising tides of the sea, and just get out of a crowded place. She wanted to know more about Kelski's jewel craft. It seemed highly intriguing, and even if she did wear a slave collar, she still made it look pretty. The compliment that someone like Kelski gave to her, seemed like it was very genuine. Avinasai couldn't pass up someone like her. Especially even during a fight scene just like this. She couldn't just abandon them.

Kelski clung to her rock though she back peddled once the deed was done. The man hadn’t gone down completely, so she left him for Thorne who had the superior weapon. The moment Thorne sliced the man’s legs, the eagle knew she would be fine. She wasn’t a fighter and didn’t have any training in such things. But when she turned and saw the boy on the ground with the knife in his shoulder, she pounced on him, kicking him hard in the nuts first and foremost to the point she ground her foot into his genitals, then used the rock to start bashing on his head, denting it in until the boy stopped moving.

Eyes wild and hissing in her own rage, the Kelvic retreated from the corpse on the ground and whirled, looking for her next target.

She slipped around the woman, seeing that Thorne was toying with the man and hoped Zukai would step in and finish him off. With her free hand she bent down, grabbed a handful of dirt, and hurled it into the man’s face while he was busy trying to keep Thorne and her rapier from cutting him further. Kelski knew it took no skill to hurl dirt and dust, blinding a man who was trying to use them.

The battle played on. And Zukai did step in. And it wasn’t pretty. The Sun’s Birth gang knew how to treat the Daggerhands that were stepping out of line in neutral territory.

When the bodies were lying about, Kelski whirled on Thorne, still angry.

“You don’t leave them hurt. You leave them dead.” The Kelvic said to Thorne’s words about having hurt the attackers enough. Wild eyes gone cold and heartless settled on Thorne, waiting for her to dispute the rebuttal. “Humans are fools for revenge, and it drives them like the wind drives dead leaves in the fall. You will never leave their mind if you leave them wounded, physically or mentally. Kill them. Others will feel their loss, but it will be a lesser thing than they themselves would feel at the humiliation of being bested by two who are not as they are.” Kelski left it up to the other women to decide of she meant human, female, or something else entirely.

“You always need to fight, Thorne. Always. Every day, every bell, every chime…. for your very breath.” The Kelvic said, equally quiet, her bloody hand still clutching the bloody rock that now had pieces of skull and hair stuck to it. She glanced down, seeming to notice the rock was still in her hand, but was reluctant to toss it aside. Weapons were rarely in the Kelvics hand, even ones that were homemade and borrowed from nature.

Zukai watched the pair for a moment as she took out the kukri on her left hip. She was shocked to see Thorne trying to run away. The girl rolled her eyes when it became clear that Thorne did not have a killer instinct. Zukai moved just in time to dodge a blow from behind as the boy was still panting and groaning rather loudly. Turning around ready to embed her blade in the kids head, she was shocked once again to see that Kelski had jumped and pinned him back to the ground bashing his head in. A smirk appeared on her lips. She was becoming more and more surprised by the woman; she was charged to take care of.

The Myrian pulled her other blade free and quickly followed behind Kelski. If the girl left her an opening, Zukai would finish the large man off. Her smirk became bigger when her companion threw dirt in his eyes and moved over to deal with Thorne. Gripping her blade tightly, she ran up and thrust the kukri into his stomach first. He let out a loud cry and instantly put pressure on the hole as the girl pulled it out while moving around him. She stayed behind him at all times in order to keep out of his reach. Zukai wanted to take her time while the other two spoke. Going down low, she ducked her head and moved cutting the tendons on his ankles as he hits the ground not able to stand.

The man rolled on to his side and tried to reach for his cleaver so that he could fend the girl off. With a gasp, Zukai jumped on my back causing him to roll completely on his stomach. She instantly began stabbing him in the skull with the kukri before using her kopis to sever his spine. The man stopped twitching shortly after the first time the blade struck his brain, but the girl wanted to be certain he would not get up and follow them. Panting, she stood up as blood dripped from both blades after the attack. Taking a deep breath, the girl forced her lungs to slow down as the adrenaline pumped through her veins still. Looking over, Zukai joined Kelski and Thorne as the crowd started to disappear no longer interested.

“She is right. You cannot show weakness to anyone especially a gang member. They will remember and use that against you in the future. If you wish to run, run from the start do not start something that you are unwilling to finish. Come Kelski, I think we have had enough excitement for one day,” the young myrian stated looking at the slave with her.

She wanted to get away from the outsider where the pair could think without being disturbed. Once they had put some distance between themselves and the scene of death in the street Zukai stopped and looked at the girl again. The pair was close to the Golden Lodge which feeds the Sun's Birth for free. The myrian was glad because she did not have the funds for the moment to feed them.

“I have to say, I did not expect you to be so fierce. I respect that, there is a place to eat nearby want to grab something before we return and Jaran chews me out for getting blood on his precious clothing?” Zukai asked leaving the decision up to her.

"Oh..." She sheathed her rapier back into its holster. She gripped her arm with the sense of being uncomfortable. She liked Kelski, but she did that know how fierce she was until she explained more about combat. Avinasai doesn't really do well with physical combat. Even if it's with a fast blade, like a rapier. She hoped that one day she could master the techniques of using a rapier, but was unsure if she was willing to be going through more training. She hated training. She really did. Her patron made her train on a consistent basis every day; even with sore muscles that ached and still ached when you couldn't feel your limbs any more. It was gruesome. Syliras was gruesome. They were very authoritative, and they watched every conspicuous being who stood out in the Fortress City of Peace. It bothered Avinasai how United the city was. Everyone was so... comfortable?

Here. Here it was different. You didn't have to be seen here. The only times when you get noticed would be if you were with a Gang, and other Gangs knew who you were. Knew what your reputation was. However, for Avinasai, she was neutral amongst the Gangs. She didn't hate. She didn't admire them. She just felt indifferent towards one another. She could care less about either one.

Although, now it's different. Now, someone has actually been nice enough to compliment her earlier. Avinasai was only complimented on how well she had done a one night stand with a random man to get some coins. Or how her poison crafting was good enough to actually have repeating customers. Avinasai hadn't actually received a truly genuine compliment in a long time. It made her feel good. She focused on that more so than the way she fought. Weakness was running away? Avinasai always thought of it as a good tactic. However, in Sunberth when you get in a fight; it can get quite serious. So it's usually either kill, or be killed. Avinasai was glad she was able to not be killed.

"Erm, yes. Kill first. Got it." Then run. Well, first take whatever possessions they had. Then run. Before more show up. Avinasai searched the older man's body before the three of them left and pulled out a few Gold Coins, and took his axe. She also searched the boy's body and searched the other boys pockets to get a couple Silver Mizas. She hurried after the two other girls who were with her and followed them into the Golden Lodge.

She sat beside Kelski and handed the Mizas to the bartender. She asked for a glass of wine, and for one meal that was up for purchase. She was honest and told them that she wasn't a part of the Sun's Birth Gang. Plus, this money that she was using from those bloody Daggercocks. She smirked as she handed them the coins. Then turned to face Kelski and Zukai.

"So, curved dagger lady. Got a name sweets? I know I probably don't deserve it, but can't call you curved dagger lady, now can I?" She wasn't being demanding. She was being truthfully calm and gentle about the name. She hoped she wasn't figuratively stepping on her foot.

Kelski took a long hard look at Zukai and shook her head. “You are like many people here, Zukai. You judge before you watch and learn. If you withheld judgement before you had a chance to see, you would be surprised less.” The Kelvic said softly, knowing the soft wide-eyed beauty in the collar was not what she was… not really. “Jaren has collared me, purchased me with coin from the svefra that held me, but he does not own me. Not really. No one can really own another unless that person wishes it. Someday I will be free.” She said to both women, following Zukai and knowing that Thorne followed as well.

The trio slipped into the Golden Lodge. Because Zukai was known, she was given a common but hearty faire. Because Thorne paid, she was given the same food. Kelski, however, was given a bowl of thin soup with only a few vegetables in it and a hard heel of bread that had some mold growing on the end. The slave brushed off the mold like it was no big deal and dipped the bread into the soup to soften it up. Then she dug in, half-starved and appreciative of the food. Kelski’s slave status got her fed here, but she definitely didn’t eat what the others got to eat. The others got meat, real meat, which Kelski craved. However, she didn’t mind so much that her plate had none. The Barracks were full of rats, more than Jaren liked to admit, and since his resident Kelvic had taken up shop in his spare room, his quarters had become relatively free of them.

Horrified the first time he’d caught her eating one raw, Jaren had started to beat her but had decided against it when he’d given it more thought. It was just another reason he called her a filthy animal, but it had definitely explained why he’d stopped seeing rat droppings everywhere in his immediate area. As long as she was quiet about it, Jaren let her hunt. Kelski loved the rats just fine. They were warm fresh meat and well fed in The Barracks. Soup and half-gone bread, filled her belly when she had work to do and no time to hunt. But she’d hunt when she was good and truly hungry.

“I will take the blame for blood on his clothing. He does not give me good clothing anyhow, Zukai. I am just a craftswoman and my job does not keep me clean always. I smell of the forge and metals, nothing appealing to them. I know you think I am his whore, but I am not. I am just another of his tools.” She told the Dragoon. Then she turned to Thorne.

Kelski was amused at how Thorne asked for Zukai’s name. “It’s a Kukri.” Kelski supplied, knowing what the weapon was called due to Darvin’s lessons. “Its not actually a dagger. It’s more of a machette.” The Kelvic said, not pausing in her eating. She was literally devouring everything on her plate as if she hadn’t eaten in a week.
