The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

An Unpredictable Thing

58th of Summer, 518 AV

Corin Row sighed, running his hand through his short brown hair as he stared down at his hastily scrawled notes, causing it to stick up in a mess of tufts in various directions. Strange things were happening in the city of Lhavit; strange and dangerous things. Corin was one of the many who was struggling to figure it out; the what and the why mostly, but also the how.

Finally, Corin had come to the conclusion that wild djed was somehow at play. It had something to do with the fog; he was almost certain. He was more privy to information regarding important things in the city than many other citizens were; he'd spoken recently to Orath from the Twilight Tower, and the Ethaefal had admitted to him that the Towers had been closed for the safety of both the students and teachers.

It seemed that whenever djed was used, even in the case of world magics, that strange things happened. Seemingly random magical side effects would plague the djed user; many of them were unsavoury or harmful, though a few could be used to the benefit of the affected. That is what had lead Corin to the theory that wild djed was somehow at play.

"None of this makes sense," He muttered, frustratedly, skimming his notes, seated at a desk in one of the classrooms of the Gateway. With his theory, Corin had decided to offer an impromptu lesson, free of cost, to any who wished to attend. He was going to discuss the theory of wild djed in an attempt to help other Lhavitians keep themselves safe; or as safe as possible, in any case.

Ruik hovered silently over Corin's shoulder, a constant and reassuring cold spot. "I've never seen wild djed act like this," The familiar finally admitted. Alone with Corin, he spoke audibly, his voice icy and echoing faintly.

"Because it doesn't, and yet it's the only explanation I can think of." Corin sighed, slumping back into his seat, absently smoothing down the mess he had made of his hair.

"I don't understand why you're giving this class. There is little one can do to protect themselves from the force of wild, untamed djed; especially the average person." Ruik spoke matter-of-factly, drifting forward to hover over the notes strewn over the desk; Corin's messy chicken scratch writing reflected in his mirrored surface as he skimmed the notes.

"Because, it's the right thing to do. People should at least know what they're facing, what's going on. To go around without knowing...it's dangerous, and they deserve to know. Knowledge is power, and all that."

Ruik didn't reply, but Corin could feel his begrudging acceptance of his reasoning. Reaching under his familiar, Corin snagged his notes, skimming through them once more; if indeed anyone was going to show up, then they should begin arriving any moment.

OOC :

An Unpredictable Thing

Postby Raeyn on July 10th, 2018, 6:04 pm

As a world mage, Raeyn wasn’t really well versed in the world of overgiving. He never could have known that the phenomenon could happen to an alchemist such as himself. Thus it took him almost half a season to finally confide the shameful truth of the voices in his head and the things they spoke of, in his trusted teacher. Orath came up with no answers to satisfy the alchemist’s despair. However, not all hope was lost. It seemed that finally a twinkle of light appeared on the dark horizons of Raeyn future in the form of a class as the Divine’s Getaway.

Once night fell upon the city and the last chime of the evening rest has passed, Raeyn hurried up to the impressive skyglass monument to the sky itself. Astronomy was the last thing on his mind however. He sought answers. Answers that only this class could provide. Hanging on my the last threads of his sanity, Raeyn prayed to his patron gods to carry him though till such answers were found.

He did his best not to appear disheveled, in spite of the purple shadows beneath his eyes that suggested the mage hasn’t slept well in may days. His hair was brushed and branded neatly however and as always he wore his fine, fur lined cloak. Upon arrival he traversed the many corridors, accidentally loosing his way more than only. Eventually however, he managed to find the right place if not by his hardly competent navigation, then by chance.

Fingers of alabaster curled around the door timidly, nudging it open before the unsure inertia mage peeked though. He was the first one there it seemed. “You must be mr Row?” He inquired politely with a nod of greeting. It wasn’t often that he was quite so softly spoken or quite this careful in his manner. The Getaway was something of a new location to him and being in the presence of a fellow mage he could one day break bread with him left Raeyn humble and desperate to make a good first impression, knowing that soon enough he would have to battle his own thoughts and struggle to keep himself in control.

“A pleasure to finally have the chance to make your acquaintance. Orath…. Orath mentioned your class may be incredibly insightful and thus of great interest to my self. I’m a student of his you see. An alchemy student. Really your willingness to share any insight on these odd things going on in the city this season would be greatly appreciated.”

As suddenly as Raeyn started running his mouth, so quickly did he halt. He took but a moment to look around the room before releasing quite how many notes there were on Corin’s desk in contrast to the number of souls in the room. “I… I apologise if I’ve shown up a little early.”

58th, Summer 518AV

It wasn’t everyday that the Divine’s Gateway held free seminars open to the general public. Haneht was by no means well-versed in magic, Nor particularly knowledgeable of Djed, but he’d at least heard mentions of it here and there on his journey to Lhavit.

The Eypharian erudite would be a fool to not make use of such a rare opportunity to arm himself with knowledge for what felt like a coming storm. Ziths appearing in the city, a man was dead, and the fog around Lhavit was getting obnoxiously thick. Even the wildlife was getting restless, and the docile Okomos of the mountains weren’t as docile as they should be. It was all very puzzling, so to say, and Haneht wanted answers.

He took his time strolling in, amber eyes entranced by the wondrous architecture of the sky glass building. Eventually, one corridor merged into another, and he found himself again on an adventure, steered away from his original destination by the curious cat dwelling within him. No, he reminded himself, enforced with a light slap to his face from one of his many hands. Class first.

Miraculously, he only ‘lost’ his way twice. By the time he’d finally found his way to the class, there were already a handful of others. He wasn’t quite late, and had likely cut it close, but at least he’d made it relatively in time. A head of silken hair the shade of a familiar red caught his eyes, tracing back to their peculiarly pigmented owner, and the boy all but beamed, boxy smile flashing brightly, which would be followed by a playful wink should the other glance his way. Still so weary, he’d think, eyes trained briefly on the prominent bags beneath Raeyn’s eyes. He looked absolutely dreadful.

Haneht took a seat in the front, hungry eyes looking expectantly at the one and only Corin Row.

An Unpredictable Thing

Postby Savis Maren on July 20th, 2018, 9:24 am

Word spread like wildfire when a free lesson about the nature of djed was brought to light. The Nuit learned less than she liked about the nature of the arcane, but the basic understanding of djed and overgiving was a lesson well given to the inhabitants of Sahova. There were certain occurrences within Lhavit that struck the Nuit mage as odd and in particular doubt about the merits of her practice given unknown conditions. Eager to investigate, Savis was delighted to listen to Corin Row's lecture and as such was rather early to arrive at the lesson.

The Nuit arrived a tad later than Raeyn but before Hikaru and Haneht. Rather than acknowledge the other mage, she offered a curt nod to Corin Row before she stepped away in search of a place to settle. Aware of her condition and what her presence might have on the lesson as a whole, Savis took a seat in the very back of the class, the hood of her dark coat raised over her head. Scrutiny fell into the Nuit's gaze as it flickered about as other hopeful learners took their seats and went about their own forms of settling in.

Savis was content to let her gaze flicker between the mage and familiar, taking note of the Fyrdenese being with her cold, dead gaze. Savis didn't pretend to know what it was, aside from it being magical and alien in nature. The Fyrdenese exuded a presence of its own, but in its sealed form she gathered little else from it. Rather than lose herself in fascination with it, she turned her gaze elsewhere. First, the Nuit heard the jewel crafter's outburst and was almost envious of the life he breathed into the room. What would Savis give to be mortal again, so full of life and excited to be included? A smile cast upon her undead visage, cloaked by her hood but observable to the astute. The thought reminded the Nuit of the fact that her change was due rather soon. However, such concerns were not immediate nor were they to interrupt her onlooking. From the first, her gaze flickered next to the Eypharian. It seemed that the multi-armed being was familiar with the dreary looking redhead across the room but did not approach.

Lastly, Savis' gaze followed Haneht's and met with Raeyn. If the Nuit hadn't caught the colour on Raeyn's skin, by the gloomy man's gaze she might have thought him Nuit. Characteristic bags fell beneath the Inarta's gaze and Savis was rather amused to find that he, like Hikaru made a point to introduce himself to the instructor. Savis wasn't so daring or eager, but content to watch and listen, eager to learn what was befalling the city that she adopted as her home. Additionally, Savis thought the idea of reviewing the dangers of overgiving might be somewhat beneficial to her. Though the Nuit was primarily a world mage, Sahova, and the Nuit who 'changed' her instilled in her each a personal magic of their own. Projection and Auristics both held such dangers and the Nuit intended to mitigate such consequences if at all possible. After all, the shells she bore already were susceptible to ruin. A lesson more than most as evidenced by the trauma Savis already had gone through. Her voice was gone and her ability to communicate without assistance was negligible. Her body held a noticeable glow that made it difficult to obscure her presence.

Savis wondered to herself, as she had many a time before what was happening and arrived to Corin Row to learn. His insights were likely far more astute than her own.

58 Summer 518

As a young Animation mage, the subject of the wild djed interested Tamas greatly and the price of the class was right. She came darting into the class room right before the class started. Her red hair in a mess from running, her pale skin showing her freckles and her cheeks and ears flushed. "Sorry," she said to the instructor. In a moment she was seated, she produced paper, quill, and ink ready to take notes. Notes that she hoped would further her understanding of her magic. The Wild djed was not something that her instructor talked about often. Mainly that it was dangerous and needed to be avoided. Part of her wondered if the wild djed touched a golem in its creation process, could the wild magic actually have produce a positive outcome rather than just being destructive.

An Unpredictable Thing

Postby Zach Grasswind on August 13th, 2018, 7:50 pm

Zach was barely a citizen of Lhavit yet, having only been in the city for little over a week, but even he had come to realise that there was something amiss. On the day he had arrived the Drykas had been issued with warnings about strange things happening with djed in the city. He had been told that under no circumstance was he to enter the park and that he should be careful if he chose to practice magic personally.

Zach hadn't paid it too much attention - many Drykas were magic users but he was not one of them. However over the days following his arrival the whispering and feeling of unease from the other citizens had put the young man on edge. He frequently heard mutterings about the behaviour of the funny goat creatures they kept up here among other things.

On this particular day he had been meandering through the streets when he overheard someone mention that a lesson on the wild djed was taking place today at the Divine's Gateway. After interrupting the person as politely as he could for directions, Zach had found his way over to the Tenten Peak. Even if he wasn't a magic user, what harm was there in finding out what might be going on?

And that was how Zach found himself quietly enter the lesson to seat himself somewhere in the back half of the room. He still didn't know anyone in the city, but from what he had gathered from the citizen who had directed him here, the teacher up at the front would be Corin Row.

Hopefully it's not too late to chime in!

An Unpredictable Thing

Postby Zeva on August 30th, 2018, 1:18 am

'You will be mine.'

The Kelvic's mind was filled with this thought as she watched the paper-wrapped bundle of what looked like baked treats sit wholly neglected by the man sitting next to them. He was dressed far plainer than most she had seen about the city, his attention appearing to be more on a scroll and various bits of paper he kept desperately trying to organise - yet continued to fail. Zeva welcomed this: as long as his attention remained diverted then she could easily nab herself a nice meal.

She had competition, though. Before the man, a bevvy of gray, silver, green and purple feathered rats cooed and strutted about timidly, their heads bobbing like idiots. She scoffed inwardly, head twisting to gain a different view of the scene before her. None of those stupid pigeons had the gall to go after the treat just yet but the odd one had made tentative advances only to baulk and scurry away whenever the man shuffled the papers in his hand or made even the smallest of moves. It was pathetic.

She changed how she stood upon her perch - a west-facing ledge of the Alluvion Academy above them all, wings shifting in anticipation. It was not everyday that she ventured over to Tenten but today seemed quite a fortuitous one, indeed. She had forgone her usual morning berry tart so this would most definitely make up for her lack of daily baked goody.

Her eyes roamed the space that separated her from her prize, mentally calculating the distance and the angle in which she was at. She also took into account that another individual sat nearby on an adjacent bench - for it was always important to note any threats - but deemed this person unimportant. With their head in a book, Zeva was confident they'd hardly even notice her before she was making her retreat, tasty treat in hand (or beak).

With all this in mind, the Kelvic finally took action, wings spreading as she dropped from her vantage point and swooped soundlessly down towards the baked goods. She was coming in at an angle and from behind but she was confident and tucked her wings just slightly to increase the speed of her dive. At the last minute, she spread them to slow her, feet coming forward and beak opening. Feathers flew as the pigeons took off, her wings clipping the man's head as her feet clipped the back of the bench, and then - for but the briefest of moments - she awkwardly dropped, belly landing on her target.

Success!

Logic and sensibilities were abandoned in this moment as she rushed wildly, snapping at and seizing a part of the paper that held her prize before launching herself back into the air. The wrap held - albeit briefly - allowing her to get just over seven foot in the air before the fried, baked goodies within began to roll out. First one, then three. It was chaos.

The man hollered, papers momentarily abandoned, and the pigeons - in a flurry of feathers - set upon the loose treats. Judging by the weight of the paper wrap in her beak, she knew some of the glorious balls remained within but they were hers. All of them! She swerved and dropped, webbed feet slapping the ground as she landed and beak dropping the bag at her feet. She rushed the pigeons, feather puffed in aggression as she released a series of low, shrill and rough calls. She dropped her head and rose high on her feet as the intensity of the call increased. They scattered. She greedily gobbled up one of the baked balls of goodness, pecking it apart in a frenzy.

She had just advanced to another she had dropped when the man finally moved to collect his pilfered meal. She guarded the piece she was near brazenly, head bowed as she pushed out more harsh, territorial cries. He ignored her and plucked up the bag she had foolishly abandoned and she squawked in protest, wings flapping angrily as she did her best to seem threatening, wanting nothing more than to bully the man into leaving the bag for her to snatch away once more. She lunged and pecked at his shoe yet her efforts were in vain... but they did cause the man to add a skip to his step and he hurried back to the rest of his belongings.

The cacophony now having subsided, Zeva was left with her measly morsel and she gobbled it down like a glutton. Being in the middle of the street, she found the need to inhale it all the more greater, wary of the many people passing that might take her prize. A particular set of feet caused her to scurry while she was still swallowing down the last of the treat. In the confusion of passerbys, the Kelvic found herself seeking refuge within a building, webbed feet carrying her past a door and into a series of glass hallways.

Her red-rimmed, blue eyes roamed the bounty of glass that surrounded her. Syna's weak light barely managed to filter through the fog that clung to the sky relentlessly, yet the weak light still managed to bounce off the various curved walls and ceilings of glass of the building she found herself in and caused it all to glint and glimmer. Certain angles sent splashed of muted rainbows across the hallway she stood within and they play of the light drew her further and further within.

Eventually, a group of people noticed the feathered intruder and left their workspace to advance on the bird, wishing to flush her out. They looked far more official than the simple man from outside and she took wing with a series of loud, shrill squawks, wings flapping and striking out at a hand that reach towards her. She fluttered and flew, darting further into the maze of glass hallways.

Spotting a door, she dove towards it. Landing abruptly, she sized up the office beyond and saw that it was dotted with desks and a handful of occupants - one of whom looked familiar. In a last ditch effort to thwart her pursuers, she turned and shifted in a vibrant flash of white, dazzling light. Naked and sporting a wily, lopsided grin, she waved her fingers to the individuals advancing towards her and slipped past the door, moving quietly upon the tips of her toes. She then spun and shut the door behind her.

Taking a few steps within the office, she clambered up onto a back table - preferring not to use the chair - and settled herself down, cross-legged - upon the table top. The man at the front of the room paused after catching sight of her stark frame and, timidly - awkwardly - took up a cloak from the back of his chair and slowly walked towards her. She noted the chilly ball that lingered where he had previously stood before flicking her attention to the man that approached. He offered it to her with some nonsensical murmurings which only caused her grin to broaden. 'What an amazing day!' she thought as she draped her new gift around her shoulders, allowing the ends of the fabric to pool in her lap as her heartbeat drummed wildly in her ears. She was still on a high from all that transpired.

An Unpredictable Thing

Postby Luminescence on October 3rd, 2018, 4:23 pm

Corin glanced up upon hearing footsteps. The first to arrive was a pale and handsome man with locks of flaming hair, save for a single streak of white amidst the fiery strands. Curious, Corin thought, and flashed the man a distracted smile. He seemed almost nervous, so Corin waved him in.

"Indeed I am. A student of Orath's? Welcome, then. He's a wonderful teacher. You may have a bit of an advantage if you're a mage, but of course it never hurts to learn new things."

At his words, Corin chuckled slightly. "Not at all, you're just about right on time. I was beginning to worry nobody would show up, in fact. Please, take a seat." He gestured vaguely to the empty room. "If you don't mind, I'm going to review a bit more, and wait to see if anyone else will arrive. We'll start then."

It didn't take long for others to begin filing into the classroom, and Corin found himself relieved that at least a handful of people had taken interest in his advertised class. A woman with a raised hood entered the room, giving a silent nod and sequestering herself at the back of the room.

Corin squinted at her slightly; something about her struck him as off, and made him uneasy. Beneath the shadow of her hood, he caught a glimpse of pale skin and black lips, and he realized suddenly she was a Nuit with a shock.

Well, that's unexpected, He thought to Ruik, tearing his gaze away, not wanting to be rude with his staring. Ruik didn't respond, but he could sense his familiar's distaste. Nuit weren't exactly common in Lhavit, but Corin had enough faith in those who ran the city to trust her presence was known and had been deemed safe, so he wouldn't question it.

A man with several pairs of arms strode in not long after, silently taking a seat at the front. He found his memory failing him, but Ruik chimed in, his words only audible to Corin.

Eypharian, Came the cold voice of his familiar, brief and dismissive. Proud lot. Think they're better than everyone else.

Don't be so quick to judge, Ruik, Corin gently chided, but the Irylid was rarely wrong about first impressions. Lastly, a somewhat frazzled redheaded woman and a blonde man entered the class within moments of each other.

Corin milled around his desk for another minute or two, but with what he felt a fair amount of students, he supposed it was time to begin. If anyone else showed up, they would technically be late, but welcome nonetheless.

"Welcome," Corin began, walking around to the side of his desk and resting his hip against it. "Thank you all for coming. I'm pleased so many of you had enough of an interest to show up. As you most likely know, my name is Corin Row. I'm a..." He trailed off suddenly as a commotion outside in the halls reached his ears.

Ruik floated slightly closer to the door of the class. What sounded like a very angry gull of some sort was shrieking down the hall, and the sound of several people making pursuit could be heard as well.

Quite suddenly, said gull appeared in the doorway, and dove into the room. Before anyone could react, a flash of swirling lights rose up around the bird, and suddenly there stood a very naked woman with a crooked grin, vivid blue eyes practically glowing with delighted mischief.

She shut the door with an air of finality before hopping up onto a table at the back of the room. Corin blinked, opening his mouth and then closing it, red rising in his cheeks. He was no stranger to Kelvics, of course, but to have a bird suddenly transform into a nude woman in the middle of his class was still quite the shock.

Ruik floated back over to Corin, who could tell the familiar was annoyed by the interruption of the chaotic woman. Clearing his throat, Corin tore his eyes from the naked woman, glancing around before settling on his cloak that hung over the back of his chair.

Plucking it up, and resigning himself to very possibly never seeing it again, he strode to the back of the room and offered it to the Kelvic, keeping his gaze firmly fixed over her shoulder and on the wall behind her. "Erm, here you go, Miss. I'd appreciate it if you could put this on," He muttered, rubbing the back of his neck before hurrying back to the front of the room.

With the room quiet and still again, and the newcomer covered up, Corin cleared his throat, trying to reorganize his thoughts.

"Ah, as I was saying, my name is Corin Row. I'm a summoner and researcher here at the Divine's Gateway. This is my familiar, Ruik," He gestured to the cold, reflective orb, who remained silent as expected.

"Now, I'm not exactly an expert on what this class is going to be about myself; and really, a lot of this is just conjecture and hypothesis on my part. But I wished to offer my insight to those who were interested. We all know some strange and rather unpleasant things have been happening, and I figured even sharing my ideas with you all might help you better understand things, and hopefully keep yourselves safe."

Corin moved to the blackboard stretching across the wall behind him, picking up a piece of chalk. Ruik stayed where he was, hovered over the notes spread out on his desk, ready to relay any information to Corin.

"So. Wild djed. I don't know how many of you are mages or have knowledge of magic, so I'll begin with the basics of djed itself." He cast Raeyn an apologetic look, knowing the man had probably heard all of this a thousand times over already, before turning to write 'djed' in large words across the board.

"Djed is, for lack of a better term, a type of energy. Everybody and everything has their own djed, and it is what we use when we perform magic. It is vital to any and all magical disciplines; in fact, it means 'backbone' in the Ancient Tongue. That should tell you how important it is."

Corin paused, allowing those who were taking notes to catch up; he did have a habit of speaking rather quickly. An arrow was added, pointing from the word djed to the word 'energy', and underneath that, 'backbone'.

"Now, wild djed is a bit of a different beast. Djed is contained within beings, but sometimes, it is also present in the world, simply loose in the atmosphere with nothing containing it. Kalea especially is known for this; the Misty Peaks have pools of wild djed all over. Loose like that, with no direction or containment, it is extremely dangerous."

Corin drew another arrow, now leading from 'djed' to 'wild djed'. "Interacting with wild djed is often a death sentence. It is concentrated and powerful; what exactly it does is hard to say, as it can vary greatly, but it will most likely be painful and end your life. Sometimes you may get lucky and survive, although the mutations it can cause may make you wish you were dead."

He paused to let his words hang in the air, trying to emphasize the severity of what he had just said. "So you may be thinking, well then, how could wild djed be the source of what's happening in Lhavit? It hasn't been anything good, but people aren't mutating and dropping like flies left and right. This is where it gets complicated, and where this class will enter the realm of theoretical and focus on ideas."

Drumming his chalk-dusted fingers on his thigh, Corin let his gaze sweep over the room. "Everybody following alright so far? Any questions?"

An Unpredictable Thing

Raeyn nodded along to every word as Corin adressed him. Not a bit of it was untrue. Even this end of the city knew of his master’s name and some day, when Raeyn too might be lucky enough to join the ranks of magical tutors, he hoped for his own name to carry that same gravitas.

Soon enough people would began to pile into the room. Some which he did not recognise, others regrettably he did. Especially the eyes of the Eypharian boy which, for reasons known only to himself, the Alchemist avoided like the plague. The appearance of Zeva, bold as always marked the very start of the lesson. An impression she must have made on the others, falling into the room in the most Kelvic was possible. Raeyn felt embarssed for her, knowing very well she had no modesty of her own. Unluckily for her, he had much to spare. He sighed quietly to himself and focused on what he came here for. To keep his head down and learn something, such was the plan.

Suffice to say Raeyn had spent a little too much time around mages, for rarely had he spent any time with just about anyone else indeed. So odd it seemed to him that the very concept of djed had to be explained. Sometimes he did forget that most ordinary people had no knowledge of the backbone of all magic.

Still he listened intently as Corin explained the difference between the kind of djed which seemed so familiar to him and the kind that could so easily end him. A little anxiety sparked up, learning of the different effects the wild djed could have. It wasn’t at all far fetched that is a physical mutation was possible then the voices in his head could have been caused by the same chaotic perpetrator. Still, musings taught him nothing. The only concrete answers could be gained from questions.

And so, as Corin paused and welcomed such questions, Raeyn was one among plausibly many to speak. “If wild djed could cause such things as mutations, is there anything else it could do? More specifically, could it cause someone to hallucinate? See things that aren’t there, hear things unsaid? Is that possible?”

An Unpredictable Thing

Savis Maren pilfered through her bag with the intent of producing her Voice Box, fully intent on asking a question when the opportunity was solicited of her. Of course, the red-headed man offered his own questions first, clearly unimpeded by a barrier of communication. While he spoke, Savis reflected on the lessons Corin Row shared about the differences between 'types' of djed. From her studies in the citadel and throughout her long life, she'd found djed of all kinds to be unpredictable in nature. It was the purview of mages to make the predictable and sought after out of a power beyond the realm of ordinary comprehension. Perhaps, at some point in history, it wasn't felt as such, with the citadel of Sahova the most intact proof of mortal's previous understanding of magic.

Of course, no place was invulnerable from such things and Savis Maren didn't know as much as she liked of such an understanding. Instead of musing further on the nature of the old world, Savis thought on the nature of wild djed as Corin Row described. Of course, Savis was consumed by the possibility of what might have transpired to her. The loss of her voice, the struggle of even controlling her movements. More and more, something robbed her of the ability to manipulate her own body's functions. Was that something the wild djed native to Lhavit?

Why would mages congregate in Lhavit if wild djed makes their crafts so difficult to navigate? Is this merely an outlying occurrence? Can I assume that in the future, such horrific consequences might not impede my work? she thought to herself as the beautiful redheaded man uttered his questions. It seemed in the askance that the boy had his own experiences that he sought to shed light on. However, the Nuit was less and less sure that Corin Row was able to answer. It seemed that the famous figure was asking questions of his own. Or was it rhetoric? Leading questions meant to be answered by a man who knew very well what he was saying?

Is that how teaching is done? Is rhetoric a part of it all? What a spectacle, she mused one final time before she manipulated the Voice Box. Readily Savis used her increased dexterity (when she had control of her limbs at all!) to color her thoughts into words. Despite herself, the fact that Savis Maren had some form of communication brought her tremendous relief. The tongue within the Voice Box worked to its function, and the crisp, low tone emitted from it, loud enough for the entire class to hear despite Savis' placement of the golem beneath the table.

There's no reason for others to see my work function, she hissed internally as the silence was broken.

"Expanding on that question, how far-reaching and specific could these effects be? Can wild djed seep into the very soul and render aspects of it inactive?" the Voice Box repeated.

Savis Maren knew her movements, her capacities, to be born from the principles of Animation. Her decaying musculature did not move her as healthy muscle would a mortal. Instead, her astral body, born from her soul, piloted her corporeal body through different means. The Nuit placed the inert Voice Box on the desk, leaving it alone as she trained her bright, silver eyes directly on Corin Row.
