The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Bahrani Library

To young Raeyn, the Inarta world mage who was quickly proving himself rather competent in the mystical art of Alchemy, there was no batter place than the massive library at the heart of the Star of Kalea. A home away from home where between dusty tomes and leather bound casings he could find solitude. Among the skyglass arches and vast halls lined from floor to ceiling by shelves and shelves of precious knowledge, Raeyn could find anything and everything to nurture his mind. From simple stew recipies for the cooking up of wondrous concoctions indeed in the labs of the Twilight tower.

But the Inarta alchemist wasn't the only frequent fact at the Bahrani Library. Among the seekers and crowds of happenstance visitors, a number of familiar faces began to etch themselves into Raeyn's memory. One such a face was that of the pretty Dawn girl, same age as himself who, judging by the number of hours she'd spent hunched over blueprints and manuscripts, shared his passion for learning and doing. A head of smooth brown locks and skin of marble, eyes blue and determined. They'd pass each other in the hallways and corridors frequently, often engage in a little pleasant small talk or greet each other with a head nod. Of course Raeyn knew exactly who he was. He was aware as well as any native Lhavitian of the ancient blood that coursed though her veins and the ancient history it had seen though the generations of the Dawnish children. To her he was just a handsome stranger, a passing flirtation she rarely hid but seldom had chance to pursue. A pretty boy who rarely recanted the nature of her attention.

That evening was one such evening.

Recent years have seen Raeyn grow into the handsome flower that he was. Still bearing the charms of youth, all the childhood chub had left his face, leaving a jaw of marble, chiselled down to a point. He'd grown his hair out past his shoulders, now reaching almost to the centre of his spine where it hung, neatly braided. Masculinity settled in his features, but inspire of the amount of time the boy had spent in the woods on the hunt, and the frequent exercise of chasing after prey for hours, he still remained twiggy to say the last. Strong and carved around the arms, his muscle remained extraordinarily lean, leaving the boy looking like he's be far more easily overpowered than he was. And no amount of exercise nor large meals seemed to fix the metabolism that was always one step ahead, and all to the alchemist's utmost displeasure. What boy didn't dream to grow up faster than years allowed him.

Recent years had also seen him dive deeper and deeper into the world of magics. A fascination that began with alchemy had grown into the yearn for knowledge of many other disciplines, and to the pleasure of the seekers indeed. Raeyn worked overtime frequently to make the money needed to spend long days and nights in the magical sections of the library, hunched over books till his eyes turned sore and red. He consumed knowledge like it was sugar, addicted to it, feeling it send buzzes of excitement though his body as if he'd been on some high. And one of such magics that often captured the boy's imagination was reimancy. How wondrous it would be, as he often thought, to feel so much closer to his homeland though kinship with fire and earth? But so many dangers that the magical discipline brought with it, Raeyn was so painfully unaware of.

That evening he'd been on the look out for a familiar tone which he had read cover to cover already. But there was a specific piece of it he wished to copy out and refer to on a future date. And though he had always placed it in the exact spot he always found it, never misplacing it even by accident, that very evening he could not find it. He looked that specific book shelf up and down twice over, rummaged though the rest of the room wondering that perhaps someone else had red it in the short time that the tome and the mage were parted. Even enlisted the help of a Seeker who proved less than useful. But no matter how hard Raeyn looked, the book vanished in the dusty dim light of Leth's domain.

It was then that a familiar head of hair caught his gaze. And as his eyes travelled in it's direction the title along the spine of a thick, leather bound tome too could be seen in the dim candlelight, illuminated by gold lettering embossed into it. Raeyn's heart leaped, not at the sight of mixx Dawn but the book beneath her elbow. Of course the truth was that no book would ever teach him as much as the talented reimancer could but Raeyn felt it would be rude for him to ask such favours of a bare acquaintance, especially since he already paid tuition at the labs of a rival family's Tower. Thus the book would suffice, of that he was sure.

And so, timidly somewhat Raeyn made his way over towards the Dawn girl who had been so wrapped up in her paperwork, she barely heard his footsteps. Armed with a polite smile, he greeted her warmly. "Good evening, Yana."

Blue eyes dislocated from the blueprints somewhat unwillingly but once his voice was recognised, she looked to him with a gleeful surprise manifested in her pretty visage. Eyes jubilant. It wasn't often he took the initiative to make the first step, even when she'd spy him out on previous occasions. Shyness, was what she blamed it on. Timidness and perhaps his something of a reserve due to the family name that always seemed to proceed her. Whatever the reason she was glad he had taken the initiative to say hello, even if it did rip her right out of an almost meditative like focus she had been working with.

"Hello Raeyn. It seems we always find each other here. How odd. Wouldn't you agree?" said Yana, pushing the chair back from her desk a little so that she could half face him. A hand of marble gestured to the other chair for him to sit. Suppose, she did that perhaps this striking of conversation meant he'd like to spend a little more time in her company than the usual kind word at the book shelf there their hands would meet searching for the same title, or a warm greeting in the doorway as one would enter and the other leave. Little did she know that the alchemist had precisely no such intention. He was simply just after the book she had on her desk.

When it came to romance, Raeyn had neither the skills in seduction nor could often tell if others were trying their luck with him. A meeting of fingers was just that, kindness. Kindness and pleasantries were just the absence of rudeness for which he had no time. His mother had taught him better.

“I’m not sure I would, dear.” He said politely, taking her invitation. Hands of honey gold alabaster folded the fabric of his tunic beneath his posterior so that it wouldn’t crease the moment he stood up again. “It’s clear that the love of this place is at least one thing we have in common. A ping for knowledge is the other.”

Nodding, entertained by such a stranger answer, Yana agreed. “I suppose you’re quite right there. And what knowledge is it you’re seeing this time around? Perhaps something about alchemy circles again.”

Raeyn chuckled. It was so very strange how well she knew him in spite of the fact they’d spent very little time together up until now. But then again he wasn’t a hard man to suss out. In his life Raeyn had only two loves. One was Alchemy, the other was the fantasies of Wind Reach his grandfather had taught him of before his timely passing. In all honesty there was very little else Raeyn had been interested in.

“Good guess. Not this time, however. In fact you have precisely the thing I’m looking for.”

Beneath pale skin, Yana pushed faintly. For a whole two ticks she had been hoping that perhaps the gods would will it for this exotic looking boy to find some fascination in her person. Some thing other than her name that is. But that hope was crushed soon enough as Raeyn nodded subtly to the book that had found itself beneath her elbow.

“Oh… I’m sorry did you want to read it?” She asked.

Charmingly, though without really meaning to be charming, Raeyns smiled. He took the book graciously and split it open down the spine where tiny letters, arranged neatly into words in columns with illuminated characters dotted around in gold and scarlet paint, caressed the eyes of a man in love with the contents before he even read it. “Many thanks.” He said, skimming over the characters.

As Raeyn’s eyes became lost in his lecture, Yana leaned in, taking a moment to just look at him puzzled. Then her hand waved before his eyes, ripping him from the page once more. “Do you not start from the beginning, Raeyn?”

Sorting himself out a little, realising his rudeness at such wanton lust for knowledge at the expense of his friend’s presence, Raeyn shook his head. “I’ve read it twice already. It’s a lot to memorise, however.”

“Why in Mizahar would you be memorising a whole book like that? Have you too much time on your hands? Coss if so I bet we could use another cleaner at the Dawn tower, you know?”

Raeyn frowned. “Why shouldn’t I? One day I wish to learn it in the flesh, practice the real deal. I can only imagine it’s relationship with alchemy would be quite synergetic. To learn, one must study.”

She scoffed, shaking her head. So naive, was this boy, she thought. “This isn’t like alchemy. You can’t learn Reimancy from books.”

Though he had read so very many tomes, from novice to adept, about many mage who practiced the elemental magic, Raeyn still one nothing of it’s many secrets. One of which being the painful process of initiation. Perhaps had he known he’d taken far less to a magic which would one day force him to give up his own essence and will it to do his bidding. No, he knew nothing of the agony the Danish women had to go though to learn their family gifts. He’s remain sparkly eyes and full of wonder and so deeply yearning for knowledge.

“If not from books then from where?” He asked, suddenly interested.

“Other Reimancers.”

Raeyn blinked for a moment, a little dumbfounded before smiling sweetly. If that was so, then one was one heck of a refinance sitting right in front of him. Once again Yana blushed a little though, put off by his earlier willingness ti disregard her presence for a book, she didn’t quite have the same flutters in the pits of her stomach.

“Perhaps you’re right. Well… not perhaps. Certainly you’re right.” He didn’t ask out right. It would be rude. “I simply wish I knew more about it. You have you family. All I have is this library.”

Yana giggled. “My my, how dramatic? Poor little mage, all he has is his library.” She mocked him a little. A pride she did smear with a dusty rag, but that was it. HIs pride wasn’t broken, just slightly obscured but a smile that remained in his features of china. “Certainly at the tower is a far more apt place for the tuition of such thing.”

“Orath would kill me.” He sighed. “Have you any idea how much time the labs take up alone. That’s no including any lectures. I can’t spread my self thin enough between two towers and keep my job. It would mean never sleeping again.”

“Pretty boys need their sleep.” Mussed Yana.

At the comment Raeyn’s lip curled up in a sheepish smile. “ SO that they have someone to look pretty for.” He winked, suggestively. That was about as much flirtatious persuading as he was prepared to do. It wasn’t his forte, especially not around women. At that point in his life Raeyn had yet to have his first kiss. And Yana certainly wasn’t going to be that.

Suffice to say Yana wasn’t quite as taken back with the wink as he had hoped. Her brows pulled together and she giggled beneath her breath but her reaction was that more of entertained ridicule than really being into it. Was wroth a try. So instead of disrespecting his companion any more with trying and failing spectacularly to manipulate her, he simply hung his head down and asked that question that had been lingering on the back of his tongue.

“So, how exactly does one begin the practice of Reimancy?” As he asked he recalled the same book in his hands containing information about a substance called res. Just a few moments ago in fact he saw mention of it which depicted mage producing it out of their hands. But to his understanding res was different to deed, was it not?

Yana really seemed quite entertained with his question. To her, who had walked the path of fire, air, earth and water, Reimancy was a second skin. The novice lessons had long ago been left in her childhood, becoming part of her instinct instead of her memory. “It’s a process of initiation. It’s neither pleasant nor particularly safe, however.”

“Seems a great fit.” He retorted, leaning his elbow on the desk. Upon a closed fist of knuckles, his cheek rested. Eyes watched in a dreamy enchantment as she spoke about the few things she was willing to tell him. It wasn’t a captivation with her looks however. He was really quite taken with her knowledge instead.

“There are cuts involved.” Said Yana, pulling back the bell of her sleeve and letting silver, deep scars on her palms gleam in the dim lamp light. Raeyn had only caught a glimpse. But it was nothing that deterred him.

“Would you do it?” He asked.

“Yo you? Absolutely not. It’s not a simple walk in the part, Raeyn.”

“I never said it was.”

It was an odd thing to ask of somebody that had only been a passing acquaintance tis now. But as days rolled on, accepting his rejection Raeyn had sought to deepen the friendship regardless. Being a lonely mage in one’s family was just that; lonely. And it seemed Raeyn and Yana had far more in common than that which decided them. They both had a passion for magic and for learning. A determined mind that obeyed no boundaries. Years would see them upkeep the friendship with frequent digits, dinners out and accompanying each other to parties. Even once Yana had found a man her heart skipped a beat for, Raeyn still visited every so often if only for some tea and a chat. Years would see them leave teenage hood behind and grow into promising, competent adults. Years of a lifetime in the Star of Kale beneath the sky of Leth and Syna.

Just the backstory we needed of the Yanna/Raeyn relationship. And a little devious flirting thrown in for good measure. Nice. <3
