All Hands On Deck
Welcome to Zeltiva's development thread! While we work to make sure the city has all the necessities for it's players, sometimes your story needs something a little... extra. In that case, please submit a complete write-up or request here. If you are requesting a certain development, please post it in the OOC or PM an ST, as this thread will be used solely for the submitting and review of locations/npc/lore.

We request that you do not write with a requested Location/NPC/Lore until it has been approved and added to the codex. You can expect an answer of some sort from an ST within the week, and if you do not receive one, feel free to ping us a reminder. STs have the right to deny or request edits on any of your write-ups. Other players have the right to constructively comment/review your write-ups, however you do not have to take their advice. The development of Zeltiva is a team effort and we want the players to participate, but do so with respect and civility.

NOTE: There is currently a request for Zeltiva-specific Flora and Fauna write-ups, so submit away!

Image
Name: Logan Emerich
Race: Human
Date of Birth: Spring 27, 457
Place of Birth: Syliras
Title: Knight of Syliras
Skills: Weapon Skill: Long Sword - 50
Shield - 30
Weapon Skill: Spear - 35
Riding: Horse - 35
Animal Husbandry - 40
Horsemanship - 26
Tracking - 50
Wilderness Survival - 65
Investigation - 50
Language: Fluent: Common
Basic: Svefra
Poor: Pavi
Gnosis Mark 1st Mark Sylir
Concept: Logan is a Knight, as his father was, and his father's mother before him. Although well enough regarded among the Knights, Logan never showed much of a talent for leadership and more often than not he would take on quests leading him far away from Syliras and into the surrounding Wilderness. He has traveled across much of the Wildlands of Syliras, and has a particular knack for tracking down people who don't wish to be found. He is mostly found in the company of his horse Vanguard and his two tracking dogs, Honey and Sergeant. Logan met Anja during the Eiyon's stay in Syliras, and helped him to track the Nuit who killed his family to Zeltiva. Upon reaching Zeltiva, the Nuit escaped by boat suspiciously quickly, and Logan began to suspect that the Nuit had made some sort of deal with the officials in Zeltiva. Logan has remained in Zeltiva working for the Martial Society while investigating on the side.

ImageName: Angela Baker
Race: Human
Date of Birth: Fall 67, 496
Place of Birth: Zeltiva
Title: Waveguard Guard
Skills: Weapon Skill: Spear - 30
Sailing - 35
Unarmed Combat - 26
Investigation - 26
Acrobatics - 18
Language: Fluent: Common
Concept: Angela is a proud member of the Waveguard and has known nearly all her life that she would join it. She considers there to be no greater call than to help protect the citizens of Zeltiva. Angela is smart, resourceful, ambitious and stubborn to a fault but with a strong sense of justice. When she was still a recruit, she encountered Anja and Logan pursuing Anja's Nuit. At first she was annoyed with the pair for refusing to follow procedure, but the Nuit's escape along with Anja's story about his family cast doubt on her convictions about Zeltiva's justice. During Anja's stay in Zeltiva she became friends with both Logan and Anja and occasionally assisted them with their investigation.

NPC Request

ImageName: Rooth Hichoft
Race: Human
Date of Birth: 53rd of Fall, 499 AV
Place of Birth: Zeltiva
Title: Veterinarian's Apprentice
Skills: In Zeltiva, an NPCs highest skill averages at 65. NPCs typically have 4-8 skills total, for reference.
Animal Husbandry (20 XP)
Herbalism (10 XP)
Play Instrument: Harp (5 XP)
Medicine (20 XP)
Riding: Horse (26 XP)
Socialization (35 XP)
Writing (20 XP)
Language: Fluent: Common

Concept: Rooth comes from a well-to-do family in Zeltiva. As such, he is accustomed to a certain elevated level of living defined by ease. This doesn't necessarily mean he is lazy, but it sure hasn't made him very proactive. Working was never something Rooth really thought about. With the absence of Winter, though, times are getting tougher in Zeltiva; Rooth must now find work in order to get a guaranteed ration chip.

When times were good, Rooth would spend his family's old money on his childhood sweetheart, Calla Davin. He loved her, and loved to spoil her. Hidden behind this love, however, was something darker. Rooth was a spoiled brat himself, and he'd be damned if he didn't get everything his way. Though the two are ex-lovers now, Rooth's debaucherous tendencies only grew and grew after the pair split.

Rooth is known as "Velvet" to those that are close to him, because he almost always wears velvet clothing. This is just one of the excesses the man indulges in. Drugs--especially funkus--is another. Rooth also enjoys having constant company, so he keeps quite a few animals around; the one he is attached to the most is a small Ovatalis Terrier named Woodruff.
Other: Addicted to Funkus, which he pays a hefty price to import from Wind Reach.

ImageName: Sturt Ames
Race: Human
Date of Birth: 62nd of Summer, 489 AV
Place of Birth: Zeltiva
Title: Front Desk Clerk of Priskil's Spire
Skills:
Birdkeeping: doces (5 XP)
Copying (28 XP)
Calligraphy (12 XP)
Organization (38 XP)
Writing (32 XP)
Language:
Fluent: Common
Basic: Svefra
Concept: Although Sturt isn't a follower of Priskil, he has found a second home in the goddess's tower. Sturt is the youngest of three children, and he is the only one who didn't grow up to be a dockworker. Rather than bringing pride to his parents, Sturt always sensed an air of disappointment; the Ames come from a very long line of sailors and dockworkers. His family would never admit that, though. The family as a whole is otherwise very close and tight-knit.

Sturt works very hard to make those around him proud. His dedication and obsession with what others think of him is probably developing into a neurosis, but he's quite happy as of right now. He works long hours, often happily taking his work home with him. When he doesn't have anything to work on, Sturt tries to better his calligraphy; in the future, he hopes to open his own stationary and scribe services.

Until then, he runs a tight ship of a front desk. Farren will bring letters or ground deliveries to him to be organized and given to couriers. Whenever someone from the public comes in with a message, Sturt will take it down and diligently get it to Farren and the doves.

All Hands On Deck

Postby Calla Davin on July 17th, 2019, 12:32 am

ImageName: Burrowing Dog, or just Burrowers
Type: Mammal
Frequency: Common
Location: In and around Zeltiva
Physical Description: Brown, tan, or orange fur. Short-haired. Underbellies can be the same color as the rest of them, or cream. Large feet and hands for digging. No visible ears. Stubby tails. Grow to be 1-2 feet long and about 6 inches tall. Females weigh about 8 lbs, while the males only weigh around 4.
Behavior: "Burrowing Dog" is a bit of a misnomer; Burrowers are actually rodents, not canines. They get their name from their friendly disposition and ease of training. These medium-sized rodents are deeply social, often living in packs exceeding 50. They dig intricate tunnels in the forest floor where they rest. Above ground, they can be found hunting insects, birds, or other small animals. They always travel in groups, usually of at least ten. This makes them tricky to hunt or trap, because these clever and cooperative hunters will defend themselves by swarming threats. If one wants to trap these animals, they must trap the whole group--otherwise stragglers will help the trapped escape.

Burrowers can be kept as pets and trained to hunt, but they will not cooperate if they are kept alone. These highly social creatures need the company of at least four others, otherwise they will grow depressed and anxious. There have been instances where Burrowers can be raised from birth with dogs as a substitute pack, but this only works from birth and often leads to the Burrower losing its natural behaviors in favor of an actual dogs.
Use: Pets, hunting small animals, pelts (though they are tricky to catch)

ImageName: Fire-eyed Sprinter
Type: Reptile
Frequency: Common
Location: Zastoska Mountains
Physical Description: Green tones with cream or earthy-toned scales running laterally along the body. One line of reinforced scales run from head to the tip of their tails. Large, three-toed feet. Front feet double as makeshift hands, with four fingers. No visible ears. Flat teeth for herbivore diet. Always have bright orange or red eyes with a small, circular pupil. Height of up to three feet and a length of four to six feet (most of which is tail).
Behavior: Sprinters are very skittish creatures. They often roam the mountainous forests of Zeltiva in groups of around ten or fifteen. When walking, they use all four of their limbs as legs. When threatened, the scales that run from their head to their tails vibrate and create an alarming grinding sound. If that doesn't scare the threat away, Sprinters will do what they do best: run.

Even on the mountain, these animals can reach speeds of 65 mph and maintain them for considerable periods of time. This is due to their extremely long tail--which provides impeccable balance--and their large feet. When running, Sprinters raise up onto their hind legs and tuck in their front ones. It is almost impossible to catch them once they've started to run, so hunters must exercise extreme caution when sneaking up on these herbivores.
Use: Very muscular creature that can provide a decent meal if hunted. Usually too dumb to train and too skittish to tame, so they do not make good pets.

ImageName: Mud Lurker
Type: Fish
Frequency: Uncommon
Location: Muddy or sandy waters around Sylira
Physical Description: Brown. Heavily armored, with near-impenetrable scales covering the top of their bodies. Three or four feet in length. Can weigh up to a whopping 60 lbs. The head area is square, with eight legs attached to it. The largest set of legs (in the back) are equipped with strong pincers. Black eyes sit on either side of the head, two antennae sit above the mouth. The mouth is on the bottom of the fish, angled forward and lined with two rows of sharp, triangular teeth. When swimming, it moves in a side-to-side fashion.
Behavior: These fish are carnivorous, and they tend to hide in the murky waters to catch unsuspecting fish. They do not have to move to breathe in the water, which they utilize by burying themselves with their hind legs. They move along the bottom of the floor using their legs to push them, and they can use these appendages to launch from their hiding spots and remarkable speeds.
Use: Their meat is foul-tasting, but edible. More useful, however, are their scales; these plates can be used as decent armor. However, due to their size, multiple Lurkers must be caught to create any armor and the scales cannot be damaged when they're being harvested.

ImageName: Lacefish
Type: Fish
Frequency: Rare
Location: In and around Mathew’s Bay
Physical Description: Pastel-colored, iridescent scales. Wings that are see-through with visible gold veins. Black eyes. Bulbous body.
Behavior: A beautiful fish that lives a solitary life. It only meets others of its kind to mate, and then it typically dies within a season of mating. Due to their lonely lifestyles, it can be hard to find these gems of the water. They tend to hide along the bottom of the water during the night. During the day, Lacefish come to the surface to feast on Syna's light--literally. These fish subsist only on sunshine, consuming nothing else. It is fabled that this fish the tears of Syna, fallen into the ocean as she longs for her lover.
Use: Cherished among worshipers of Syna and Leth, but considered an intoxicating delicacy to others. When turned into the drug "poppers," Lacefish's airsacs are said to give a surprisingly somber, yet uplifting, high.
