The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Lhavit Weekend Challenge

8/8 - 8/11

Hi guys!

There was a bit of talk about weekend challenges in chat the other night, and Goss suggested I run a weekend challenge for Lhavit. I thought it was a great idea, so...I'm doing exactly that! I know it's already a bit late on Saturday, so I'll be letting this run until Tuesday night; a bit more than a weekend challenge.

This is a prompt-based challenge; between myself and a writing challenge generator on Seventh Sanctum, I've come up with five writing prompts listed below. You need to pick one of the prompts, and write a thread with all of the mentioned elements. Some might be more difficult than others. Elements of the prompts can be minor or major, but they must be present; it's up to you to be creative with these prompts and making them fit together.

Once you've done a prompt, you can't do it again in a second thread; that said, threads can have multiple parts, and you are welcome to do as many of these prompts as you want to. Threads should be a minimum of 2,500 words. Since this challenge is only for Lhavit, I'm going to go by my timezone, which means you'll have until 11:59 p.m EST on Tuesday the 11th to submit your threads. :)

Have fun!

Lhavit Weekend Challenge! [8/8 - 8/11]

Prizes!

Each prompt has several prize options based on the elements that were involved. You can have your choice of two prizes from those listed for the prompt you did, or if you want a prize from a different prompt, you may choose a single prize from a prompt other than the one you did.

Prompt #1 Prizes

Mini Greenhouse: A small model of a greenhouse made of skyglass that fits neatly in one's palm, with a removable roof. Once every 30 days, a small packet of seeds will appear inside. You must roll a d6 to determine the rarity and category of seed that appears (based on the following list), with further specifications up to you. Seeds that appear inside are completely normal and will need to be grown and cared for like any other plant, and will require the appropriate climate and environment for their plant type to grow properly. 1- Common flower seeds, 2- Uncommon flower seeds, 3- Rare flower seeds, 4- Common fruit/vegetable seeds, 5- Uncommon fruit/vegetable seeds, 6- Rare fruit/vegetable seeds.

Lost Objects Compass: A small, dingy compass that seems to have the needle stuck in one position. It only works if someone who is looking for something they have lost picks it up, at which time it will point in the direction of the lost object. The person must specifically be looking for this object, and they must own it and have lost it or had it stolen for the compass to work.

Watering Can of Growth: An ornate golden watering can, small enough that it holds only enough water for a single plant at a time. It refills every 30 days. A plant that is watered from this can will grow twice as fast and twice as large as it normally would. The effect only happens once per plant, and nothing happens if the can is filled with normal water and then used.

Prompt #2 Prizes

Star Map: This 'map' is a delicate square of crystal; 5 inches by 5 inches, it is within a dark wooden frame, and comes in a soft velvet pouch. During the day, the crystal is completely clear, as if it was a sheet of glass. At night, the crystal will darken until it is almost opaque navy blue, and small points of light will appear. Anyone remotely familiar with the night sky will realize that the crystal is presenting a miniature version of the sky above them; the map will show whatever stars are above where it is currently placed, and will adjust as it is moved. It will work no matter what the weather is. A tiny image of the moon rests in the upper right corner at all times, showing the current phase of the moon.

Jar of Honeyed Words: A small jar of the finest honey one has ever tasted; if a spoon is eaten, whether alone or mixed in with something else, the person who ate the honey will find others are particularly attracted to and easily swayed by their words. +10 to Persuasion and Negotiation for 24 bells after eating the honey. There are 25 spoonfuls worth of honey in the jar.

Unusual Spectacles: A pair of round wire-rimmed glasses with slightly amber-tinted lenses. When worn, objects or people that seem out of place or unusual will emit a faint glow; however, what the spectacles deem as being 'out of place' might not always be noteworthy. It might be someone acting suspiciously because they've stolen something, or it might just as well be someone who is wearing a red cloak when everyone else nearby happens to be wearing black cloaks.

Red String: A seemingly normal piece of red string a few inches in length. When tied around one's pinkie finger, however, an ethereal version of the string will extend out long past the actual string's length, leading in the direction of the wearer's nearest blood relative, no matter how distantly related.

Prompt #3 Prizes

Okomo Horn Ring: A rare piece of jewelry crafted from the skyglass of an okomo's horns, the crystalline purple ring is a solid band that will fit comfortably on the wearer's preferred finger. Wearing this ring makes okomo especially friendly; the wearer will have no trouble attracting okomo, and they will listen to any simple or basic commands without resistance, provided the commands do not put the okomo in danger.

Tanroa's Ring of Safety: A simple golden ring with an hourglass carved into it. When the wearer find themselves in a life-threatening situation, the ring will automatically activate; everything and everyone within a 20-foot radius from the wearer will freeze in time for exactly a single minute, potentially buying the wearer enough time to get out of the situation. Onlookers will not notice anything strange. The ring only has a single charge per season.

Earrings of Lie Detection: A pair of diamond drop earrings. When worn, the wearer's ears will tingle if they hear a lie being spoken. However, they will not know exactly what the lie is, only that one has been spoken. Technical truths or lies of omission do not count as direct lies and thus will not trigger the earrings. It is also prudent to take care in public settings, as the earrings may detect a lie picked up in someone else's conversation in the background.

Prompt #4 Prizes

Holy Symbol: An elaborate holy symbol of a deity of your choice. This symbol allows for the owner ask a single question of the deity in question that the deity will then respond to. However, the deity is under no obligation to answer truthfully, if they answer at all. After being used, the symbol cannot be used in such a manner again, and will simply be a decorative holy symbol. (Any use of a deity will, of course, have to be moderated. If you choose this prize, please contact me when you decide to use it).

Lovely Lipstick: A seemingly infinite tube of lipstick in the wearer's perfect shade. When worn, the wearer will seem more attractive; +10 to Seduction while being worn.

Self-Writing Quill: A quill that will write whatever the owner dictates on its own. Ink and paper must be provided for the quill to be able to write. It will write at the same speed and with the same handwriting as the owner of the quill writes with.

Flavourful Wine: A dark glass bottle of wine with a blank label. Upon opening it, the owner can request any flavour of wine they can imagine, even if it would normally be impossible to make wine in such a flavour. The wine will taste perfectly of what was requested, with a high alcohol content, and be of fine quality. One the bottle is finished, it must be resealed, and it will refill after 15 days at which point a new flavour can be requested.

Prompt #5 Prizes

Crystal of Disease: A palm-sized clear quartz crystal. When held by someone who has been poisoned or has a serious illness, it will turn black; the darker the crystal, the more serious the illness. Holding the crystal while ill will slow the spread of the poison or disease by 25%, buying the sick slightly more time to find a cure or seek aid.

Wolf Guardian: A bone whistle carved into the shape of a wolf's head. It emits a shrill sound when blown, almost too shrill for a normal human to hear. Once per season, blowing this whistle will summon a large white wolf to the wearer's aid; it cannot speak, but will seemingly understand what the whistle-blower asks of it, and while it has no special abilities, will do whatever it can to help. Once it has done what it can to help, the wolf will leave. While the whistle will only summon the wolf once per season, it can be used as a normal whistle the rest of the time.

Truth Tea: A small tin of black tea infused with lemon. When someone drinks a cup of this tea, for the next bell they feel compelled to tell the truth. NPCs and PCs should roll Resolve against the tea; they must beat a 50. If a roll beats this number, then the NPC/PC is not obligated to tell the truth. Even if the roll does not beat this number, the effects of the tea might be avoided by clever wording and technical truths. The tin contains enough tea for 20 cups.

Post below with what prize(s) you're claiming. :) As always, prizes must be found in-thread and cannot be gifted, sold, or otherwise given away.

Lhavit Weekend Challenge! [8/8 - 8/11]

Postby Moritz Craven on August 12th, 2020, 8:23 pm

Had a lot of fun with this, always good to get you to do something you wouldn't normally be doing.

For Moritz I will pick:
1- Holy Symbol: Myri- though I'm unsure what that would look like since her page says her symbol is claw marks or blooded weapons. Any idea what that would look like as a physical holy symbol?
2-Self-Writing Quill.

Thanks for the challenge,

Mortiz Craven.
