Who is that? (Dimitri, Flick)

Dimitri's mood continued to sour. Everything had been going perfectly until Jaelyn butted in. Then she continued to follow him, to nag at him as he searched for Flick. He was feeling a very unknightly anger within him. What did it matter to her what he did? He would be a knight before her, he was just as dedicated, if not more so. What right did she have when his training had brought him further. No one had ever questioned his work ethic or training before.

He stopped and turned aggressively toward Jaelyn, his anger finding a foothold. "I am going to be a Knight, I'm going to take care of her. All Knights have a family somewhere, and I'm wanting mine. I've trained hard every day of my life, broke my body down and built it back up, and now that I am close to both of my goals, Knighthood and a family, a friend of mine shows up and tell me it's wrong."

His anger continued to grow and fester, perhaps a trait inherited from his notoriously fiery mother. He continued, a bit louder now, "Well you are the one in the wrong Jaelyn. You want the same things I do, but unlike me, you aren't capable of achieving both together. I on the other hand will become a Knight and head of my family while you are still 'playing' squire. I considered you my friend. I don't know what to think now."

He started to turn to leave, regretting slightly his barbed words but refusing to apologize for them. His goals came before his friendship with Jaelyn.

The fox's head turned sharply and her eyes searched the crowds. Above the din of the people, she had heard his voice. Raised in anger. Lowering back down on her heels, the kelvic frowned slightly. He was fighting with her, about Flick. The young woman felt awful. Was she interfering with his goals, his dreams?

Looking at the meal brought out steaming and sitting on the table before her, the fennec didn't feel so hungry any more. Reaching up to tuck her blonde hair behind her ears, the girls dark eyes glittered as she sat down slowly. The creature - a fennec fox in womans clothing - knew love, knew bonding was her devotion. It couldn't be controlled or helped, and the only one who could break it was Dimitri. Flick had been on such a whirlwind of emotion the night she met the handsome squire...maybe she had been wrong to let it happen.

Surprised, the lithe girl reached up to wipe a tear from her face. Flick didn't cry - not unless it really mattered. Quickly clearing away any other traces of tears, the fennec wondered if she should leave. A sharp pain tore at her chest at the thought and with a small gasp Flick pressed her hand to her heart. It would not be so. If Dimitri needed to let her go, he had to do it.

Who is that? (Dimitri, Flick)

Dimitri's angry words cut through Jaelyn effortlessly, and caused a pain that was incomparable to any physical injury she had ever sustained. Moisture welled up in her eyes as she stared at Dimitri for a silent moment, all signs of frustration or anger gone from her.

When she finally did respond her voice was flat, almost dead, "I... I am sorry Dimitri. I will leave the two of you alone," and with that she turned away from her fellow Squire.

He was right after all. They were close to the same age, and yet Jaelyn could not contest that he seemed to be much closer to his Knightly Quest than she. Had she simply been just "playing" at being a Squire? Was Raynard simply being too soft on her when he told her to go and take a break, to rest and recover? It couldn't be because she was a girl. Sera Aquila Brock hadn't even been a young woman when she first became a Knight. With all the time Jaelyn had had she was going to be lucky if she was prepared for her Quest by her 18th birthday.

Silent tears sliding down her cheeks Jaelyn began a quick walk back to Stormhold. Dimitri was right, she had no right to look harshly on his actions when she had so many failings of her own. Rest and ease could come later, but now she had to get back to training. Maybe, if she worked hard, she would be able to at least be and adequate Knight. It was no wonder her Father was so distant at times, he must be sorely disappointed in her lack of conviction but was just too kind to say so to his only daughter.

Stifling a sob Jaelyn doubled her pace, practically running to get back to the corridors of Stormhold. She had so much work to do.

Who is that? (Dimitri, Flick)

Dimitri's anger was quickly extinguished when heard a muffled sob and saw the glint of tears on Jaelyn's face. He watched her leave, his mind focusing on the fact that he had just devastated a close friend. The true Dimitri, the one that never hurts his friends, made him totally focus on what he had just done. He moved to follow her, totally forgetting about Flick waiting on him with food. He moved lithely through the crowd after Jaelyn.

He quickly lost sight of her but suspected where she might go. He began running through the streets of Syliras, looking to get there first. He ran between people, careful not to injure or anger any of them. He cut through a tight alley, and leapt over a barrel. Or thought he did, since his foot clipped the top of it. This caused him to fall forward. He put his arms out and hit the ground with his forearms. He landed in a roll and quickly got to his feet ignoring the stinging in his arms. Finally he reached his destination, ignoring the angry look of a Matron. He was in the Squire Dorms.

He made his way to Jaelyn's room, a place he knew about because a fellow squire he had met rooms with her. Inside he found it empty, so he sat down on a chair and waited, so he could apologize. After all, who knew him better than her? The two had been raised in incredibly similar lives. He knew the pain the thought of failure could bring, and knew she was feeling it now. And Squires don't hurt one another. Training yes, with words, no. He sat and waited for her, hoping he could make this right.

Who is that? (Dimitri, Flick)

Jaelyn had honestly intended to return to the training rooms, to get back to her practice of earlier, but tears blurred her vision and she had to trust her feet to guide her to her destination. When she had finally blinked away her tears she found herself not in front of the training room, but at the door to her suite in the Squire dorms. Well, maybe a bit of time to cry out her frustration in the solitude of her room would be good before getting back to training.

Opening the door to the suite she froze as she found Dimitri sitting in the common room on a chair. Was this some kind of tormenting dream? What was Dimitri doing here? For almost a chime she just stood there in the doorway and stared at him.

Finally she pushed herself to move, to talk, "Dimitri... what are you doing here?" Jaelyn's voice was rough and cracked with sorrow and pain as she moved into the room and turned to make her way to the private sleeping room where her bed was, "I said I was sorry. You should go to Flick, she is probably worried or upset."
