A village cut off from the rest of Mizahar by the Valterrian, slowly reestablishing contact with the outside world.

If there was a disease involved, Veldrys thought, Cian or he would most likely be able to deal with it. If the person that had written those ominous words had suffered from some kind of disease or passed a disease onto others, there was most likely some kind of cure. There was a cure for most diseases, at least as long as he had one or more people that had a god’s blessing by your side.
Possession though, possession was something that he had no experience with, and he wasn’t sure if there was anybody in Denval that had.
He noticed that the human looked weary. Veldrys himself was calm for the most part, always trying to control his emotions, never showing the extent of his fear, his discomfort openly. There were only small things that betrayed that it affected him just as much, a slight widening of his eyes, a furrowing of his brow as he thought about it.
„I do“, he confirmed. „I have received a mark from Viratas.“
As he heard Cian’s next words, he looked at him again abruptly.
„Samples?“ he asked. „Would you let me take a look? I can’t promise anything, but I might be able to discover something that others have missed.“

The Symenestra was awarded a strange, sideways look; but Cian, considered to be eccentric by even the shut in Denvali, was not terribly disturbed. Rather he nodded and shuffled out of his slump to pick his way around a stack of books and a bucket filled with what appeared to be nothing more interesting or useful than sea shells.
"I would suggest you don't attempt to use the power of Viratas' mark," he spoke, words somewhat muffled as he had crouched down before the shelves behind the laden desk. A chest was being dragged out and with a huffing breath he lifted it into his arms to tote with him back into the somewhat more clear area of his office. The tea tray was moved aside so he could plunk the chest down and into a pocket he dug, eventually fishing out a set of keys that jangled like bells.
"Not on these. I've been summoned to tend to those who have attempted it on, eh, the dead," he said this delicately. "The results were unfortunate."
He cast a glance to his guest, wondering how well versed Veldrys already was in the vagaries of his favored god's gifts. |
