Known as the Celestial Seat, Nyka is a religious city in Northern Sylira. Ruled by four demigods and traversed by a large crevice, the monk-city is both mystical and dangerous. [Lore]

[Announcements and Discussion]
The Djed Storms

The following thread will be used for updates concerning Nyka’s response to the Wild Djed Storms of Spring 512. You may ask questions here, or simply discuss the storm and the events that follow it. For convenience’s sake, here is the summary of the storm’s effects on the city as it is listed in the Official Announcement. Information about preparations that were made can also be found here. It should be noted that:

For four days, the city is in chaos.
Many buildings suffer structural damage, at least partially.
The North-Central and West-South Bridges are not accessible until further notice.
Every structure in the Celestial Square has been hit, except for the Celestial Palace, where the Alvina had sheltered as many citizens as possible.
The Great Infirmary has been damaged, but healers are still tended the wounded behind a wall of protective monks.
Jod Murandon, Irena Snowsong, and Ezra Mole have been injured.
Ricard Landre is confirmed dead, crushed by the partial collapse of the Palace’s roof.
1 out of 20 people have disappeared, and you probably knew some of them.
      Azura Ilune is missing.
The Monk Headquarters have become holdfasts where many people are taking refuge.
Monks are trying to distribute food, but will be unable to give it to everyone. They are focusing on the Infirmary and the Headquarters.
Lances (“a sudden thought crossing the mind in a voice that is not the person's own, bringing a realization, an epiphany, a dejà vu or simply a warning”) are more common and longer lasting.
Use of personal magic may or may not result in instant overgiving. Use of world magic is uncontrollable.
Monsters, including some yukmen and all of those in this list run rampant. (You have to log in to the wiki to see them all, for some reason.)

A subtle aura of panic exists within city walls, which may be contagious to your character at some level. This aura gradually changes to a healthy and similarly infectious calm by the fourth day.

By nightfall of Spring 4, djed and monster levels will be back to normal, thanks to the interference of the Celestials and the work of monks and able volunteers. Many shops will be closed until around 20-30 Spring, as people work to rebuild and restock. Please use common sense when it comes to playing in recreational areas, and assume that some structural damage was dealt to all of them.

There will be two event threads tied to the disaster, both taking place on Spring 1. I hope to get small groups, 3 or 4 people each, in each thread. They will have different themes, risks, and rewards, but both are equally pivotal to the protection of the city and the elucidation of its secrets. You may only join one.

    [Refuge]
With the city rent asunder and the Aperture seemingly emptied, an expedition is sent down into depths to try and discover a refuge from the chaos, or at least gain a little more insight about the Heart of the World. Monks and scholars alike are welcome to assume the risks. This thread has a weekly post requirement.

    [Wrath]
A giant, worm-like monster known only in myth has burst through the earth in the Southern Quarter, collapsing the bridge to the Western Quarter and causing mass destruction in its vicinity. All capable hands have been summoned to help destroy it in whatever way they can.
Three new monsters, among the rest, will be wreaking havoc on the city through the fourth of Spring. They are:

The Corricore, a rodent with fur and skin that causes incapacitating hallucinations,
the Gesentke, a beetle that can rot a leg off with a single bite, and
the Firetooth Skink, a polyandrous reptile that lures its prey with the promise of fire (females may also be sighted).

Feel free to use them in individual threads about the storm, as well as in Aperture-related flashbacks and threads.

[A&D] The Djed Storms

I'll be posting in Refuge on Friday and in Wrath as soon as the final member enters. If you would like to do something storm-related outside of these quests, whether you are or aren't already in one, feel free to shoot me a PM with some ideas. (I have special ideas if you want to be one of the people who disappeared, though you'd have to be threadlocked for Spring until that arc is finished.) There is plenty of stuff to do and plenty of things to build and rebuild.

Nykans will make a point to rise from the ashes and emerge better than before. I'll be posting some new locations in the coming days.

The Bridge of the Dead is the first structure to rise from the destruction. It is available after Spring 32.
