you mean what caste? you can choose for yourselve mostly (although it would be weird, for example, to play an Endal when you have zero skillpoints in say... hunting, or something alike)

[edit] okay nevermind, there are some restrictions now I see xD

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

After talking with Goss, if you are a new character starting off, you would be playing A Cheit, Yasi, or Dek. If you were to max out a crafting skill (example: Glassblowing at 30) you could start off as an early Avora, that has just been accept into the caste. However, bonding with an eagle requires a mod thread. So starting character couldn't start out as Endal.

Vanir - Kellan is right - but don't tell him k? I'm worried about his hat not fitting. No restrictions on Dek at the thaw festival. Usually there are, but this is one of the biggest events in Wind Reach. If you don't bathe for it though, you might get tossed out. In addition, just because your a dek, you might not get too many people talking to you.

Dalena - You can be, as Torc says, Dek, Cheit, Yasi or Avora without any special permissions. If you talk to me (and I give you an SS thread), you can also be an Endal. What I'm looking for on the Endal situation, is a well-fleshed out Wind Eagle complete with well formed personality.

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

Postby Kovac on June 15th, 2010, 6:18 pm

Gossamer, I am interested in creating an Inarta that is in the Avora class as a archer/hunter. Is there any special requests or prerequisites that need to be made for my PC to be a second rider or ambush archer during hunts?

Thanks

Absolutely not. You should be just fine to get started as is... so long as you take a significant amount of points (at least competent - 25) in archery or hunting.. preferably archery if you want to ride as a bowman.

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

Postby Gossamer on June 17th, 2010, 5:47 pm

Hey Guys-

I just wanted to give you all a heads up. There's something that HUGELY annoys me as a moderator (and most of the rest of the game). If you get a wild hair and even remotely think to add Glittery shiny moving text to either your signature or your Avatars.... you will be asked to remove it. This goes for bouncing little anime figures or annoying little moving .gifs - you know the ones I mean. I find it beyond distracting when our main focus here should be on the writing. I have historically and routinely had to stifle the upwelling of bile in my own throat when I see this. Why? Because it kinda goes beyond 'pretty' and goes into the realm of 'GOD I NEED ATTENTION'. We love glitter here... Satu has a whole Scrapbook devoted too it. And we love her... but she carefully keeps it contained in the scrapbooking forum where it belongs. You can glitter the world there! Seriously! As a craft person, its great stuff irl. But here on the boards, it makes a firm statement that you don't want to be making - and the entirety of the guys in chat today have agreed as a body.

Hence.. my decree. No glitter in WR unless its the unmoving lovely non-distracting kind. Now, if you've recently glittered up your Avatar or Signature following what you thought might be a trend... hurry and change it back! Everyone will be incredibly grateful and we'll totally never mention we saw any form of glitter in your posts at all ever. So you get a free pass to ditch it. :)

If I see it still there by the weekend... pithy snarky pms will be sent!

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

Oh.. another note. If you are a non-Inarta (for example - a visitor, or a kelvic) then please see the Valintar. You need a caste assignment for the duration of your stay. If you were a kelvic born here, you'll automatically be assigned a caste based on your skills (or lack thereof) so make sure you put somewhere in your CS what that caste is.

Thing is.. if you aren't assigned to a caste in Wind Reach, you don't get housing, know when you'll be fed, and there's no traditional shops or restaurants to go buy food at (in fact everyone has very little use for money). The closest shopping we have is Market Day, every ten days in the Courtyard of the Sky or in the Stained Glass Gallery (depending upon weather). And now that I think of it.. we should probably have a thread devoted to simply explaining that along with when these markets happen and how to shop.

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

Postby Gossamer on June 17th, 2010, 7:15 pm

Okay.. in regards to the First Thaw Festival.

I've sent out the PMs that reveal whats on everyone's medallions (except your own). Please do not TELL people OOC whats on their medallion. :) Everyone will probably eventually guess, but this is a plot device to get people talking and to have a reason to socially interact. Play it up. It's only fun if you don't know and are being driven nuts trying to figure it out. Also, along with the pm of whats on each medallion, I've included a list of potential things with a complete enough description of them so that people can both ask and answer questions. There are far more things than medallions, so this game should stretch a while. I'll be posting moderator interactions here and there if anyone wants to talk to anyone - let me know. Also, our beloved AS has decided to take one of her NPCs on a test drive and launch him/her in that thread.

If you join the festival late, you'll still get a PM but it might take a day or two.

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

Postby Gossamer on June 18th, 2010, 10:13 pm

Hey guys -

Thanks for indulging my anti-glitterness. You guys are the best. Anyhow, I've had a really busy week, but this weekend I plan on hitting WR posts multiple times (Sakima's thread first!) along with the adventures to get some new players here (while putting them through hell). I just wanted to say how proud I am of all of you in the First Thaw Festival. You're doing exactly what the festival was designed to do - get everyone interacting and familiar with each other. WR is a small place... with only a couple of thousand people - you will know each other. And, on top of that, I have to say the people here definitely have some of the most beautiful decorative posts anywhere without being garish. It makes the city a real pleasure.

The players guide should be out sometime Sunday as well... it has all kinds of tidbits. Don't be afraid, until then, to start posting training threads, more social threads, and exploring the place. The Storyteller's here will bust it to get all the descriptions up... and if your a visitor, be sure to give the Valintar a visit so you know where you get to sleep etc.

See you tomorrow!

[Wind Reach OOC] Touching The Sky

Postby Gossamer on June 19th, 2010, 4:51 pm

Hey Guys -

Do you get tired of all this DS announcement stuff? *lol* I feel like a PBS add sometimes. Anyhow, two issues today! One, I have the whole weekend off and its pouring down rain in the Northwest which means zero gardening and not a whole lot else going on other than lots of focus on Wind Reach.

I wanted to urge you guys if you'd like threads, to please post open threads in this forum. There's a ton of people that will join them. Conversely, you can look through the character registry, check out people's interests, and gather a couple of like minded folks to say... "Hey, lets go climbing on the edge of the world!" or "Want to go down to the lake and go fishing?" Basically its Summer in Wind Reach, and that means the denizens go absolutely nuts in fits of cabin fever and go streaking outside for any assortment of outdoor activities. There's even hotsprings and the like in the local area. And because this is a mountain top, once the First Thaw Festival happens, that means the Road Crews have opened all the roads, trails, etc to all the various hangouts and the outside is accessible by all, just not the riders. So post something. I'm sure you'll find lots of partners in crime.

Pretty cool huh?

Now, the second issue I keep getting is IMAGES - where are all the hot redheads? Well sadly, there's a lack of redheaded images on the net. For some reason, auburn red, etc males aren't very popular. While of course, the redheaded woman is everywhere. So, what do we do about this tragedy? We select images of hot sandy blonds and dark haired folks and add streaks of red to their hair color via photoshop. I can do it for you. Hex has volunteered to help folks with images. There are a number of photoshop artists here that can help. Just post something up here in the OOC thread with a plea and we'll see what we can do.

Alright. My goal is to get ten locations done today with all my threads hit... so we'll see if we can go about doing this.

Everyone have a fabulous Saturday!
