Ricky wasn't sure of his friends thoughts but by his reaction Sebastian seemed to think it funny at least, maybe now Ricky was starting pull off the convincing act that he was fine. When they took a seat on a blanket next to the comfort of the warm blaze he remembered where he first heard the expression, it was something his pa's friend Odis said once when they were hanging out together. His pa instructed him to not say it of course until he was "mature" enough, course back then Ricky hardly thought himself immature really. It was strange though now that he thought about it, he hadn't really thought about his father recently. Not sincw he and his dog were getting along well, of course that was when things seemed simple to the fisherman. Music filled the air to divert his attention, a lady covered in robes sang in a tune that he felt he could connect to. The words were that of love that much he knew, amd before he could lose himself in such a distraction the song was already over. The musicians were all pleased with her performance as she took a bow in appreciation. It was then Ricky's eyes rested upon it. The very instrument that was a key in a happy moment: the lute! He remembered such a time where he was with his father, the joy of learning from his old man and being there when music seem to come alive. It was a talent his father had yet humbly declined, saying it was just pure fun and nothing more. Ricky wanted to go back to that moment, to tell his pa everything he knew now so he could avoid all this misery. Yet there was something else, something more inclined to reality instead of that fantasy. He wanted to bring that moment out into this world. To bring out a lively tune once more like he did when he first learned, and maybe...just maybe.... "Hey Sebastian, wait here a tick would ya. I'm gonna..." His mind was more focused on that object more then anythjng else, but Ricky wasn't going to leave a friend in the dark. "I'm gonna see if I still have anythin left in me." He remarked to his friend as he finally stood up, making his way over to the musician's and their instruments. Ricky didn't know if anything he said made sense to Sebastian, but he had to try and see if he could pull this off. To see if he had anything left in him from before this whole nightmare he was in. "Pardon me but do ya mind if I try?" The musician's all looked curiously at him, the lute player even more. "You know how to play?" He asked as he held the lute next to him, the guy seemed pretty laid back to Ricky. "I did once, but that was a long time ago. I wanna see if I got it in me still." Ricky answered with a hope that he sounded humble, it was difficult to tell when you withdrew from people for almost the end of a season. "Alright then, give it a shot." He nodded with a smirk, and allowed Ricky to take the lute. Ricky took a seat on the sand below and cradled the lute in his lap, recalling the very moment that looked so familiar to him. The time was different indeed, but as Ricky allowed his fingers to run down the strings it hardly felt so. Pressing down on a fret of the outer string with his thumb he strummed the lute to hear it's note. Dummmm It was low and deep, deeper then he remembered. Of course this was just a recollection period, if he could figure out which notes made that particular tune then he could play that particular song... That song his father sang that was damn near impossible to forget, yet and the same time remember. Intent on figuring it out Ricky kept trying, ignoring the looks he received from the musician's. He would get it right for sure, with a few more strums to recall those sounds. He would remember his father's song. |
